This restaurant is definitely in my top three for Ottawa.
The food is excellent and my addiction is the 34B, four stars (it will be spicy, you will cry) which is an eggplant and basil dish. Get it with rice, not noodles, you will not be disappointed. Also, other favorites of ours: Tamarind beef curry. totally fantastic. Thick sauce, big chunks of meat and potatoes, heavenly. Skip the pad thai because there are just so many exceptional dishes to try that are outside of the same old, boring, thai box. The shrimp and pineapple curry are to die for.
A note on the service: They are very brisk, and not overly friendly in our big Canadian way, and actually it cracks my friends and I up. But now that we're regulars, not only do they have our orders memorized, but they are really, really, really friendly. Stop by the table to have a chat friendly! Which cracks us up even more. -

Went here for dinner on a weekday. They have good parking space available. While the decor and ambience might seem sketchy, the food is much better. That being said, the flavour is a bit different from I am used to in general.
Pra Goong Salad: Grilled shrimp cooked with lime juice, lemongrass, onions and hot pepper. Different. Maybe a little too much onions and I was thinking something like a mango salad. (2 stars)
Lemongrass Tea: (3 stars)
Tom Kha Gai Soup: There was no broth really. Everything was literally added to a thick gravy like coconut milk liquid. The flavour was good but the consistency threw me off a bit. The coconut milk did overpower some of the other flavours including the spice. The bamboo shoots were a little too much. (2 stars)
Chicken Curry: Massaman style but probably used sugar instead of tamarind. The chicken however was delicious and perfectly cooked. I was happy that with the hot curry, the chicken did not end up being overcooked when it was served. (3 stars)
The service was attentive and prompt. Reading other reviews makes me wonder if I should just try some of the staples and not venture too far of the beaten path! -

The one thing about Siam Kitchen is that, while the decor and ambience might not be the greatest, the food is outstanding.
What I particularly loved is the variety of different sauces they have, and the fact that they don't shy away from adding spices. Loved the Tom Yum soup, and the pad thai is also very good.
The service was decent; they were relatively timely and efficient, and no orders were messed up. They're not super-friendly though, would be nice to see the staff look like they're enjoying their job! But to dwell on that would be nit-picking.
They could spruce up the place a bit, as it is already a bit cramped. Adding more ambience would give more of an intimate feel for sure.
But as for the food, the main reason I go to restauants - it's definitely top-notch. -

Since it's the oldest Thai restaurant in Ottawa, Siam Kitchen seems to have used its time well with perfecting its food. I went with two food lovers with very discerning tastes for great Thai food and they loved their experience here. They have a wide selection of vegetarian options and a good scale of mild to spicy dishes. They also have a nice array of beer. Their food can get pretty creative, including one dish that's served inside a hollowed out pineapple.
Their atmosphere, service and prices are average, but it's the food quality that makes Siam Kitchen stand out from many Thai restaurants. -

Reliably good. The best Thai food I've found in Ottawa.

I don't often travel to Ottawa, but if I found myself there again, and was in the mood for Thai, I would hit this joint up. Slightly sketchy service unfortunately, short on smiles, highly skilled in swooping past while you're trying to get their attention. I'm being a tad generous because there were 9 of us, and I know big groups are a pain in the ass. Had there only been 2-4 of us I would have expected much better service. Everyone at the table got a drink except me, and since I'm a human foghorn I put it down to being ignored rather than not being heard. But, the food was fantastic. The barbecue beef was excellent and the green curry was just right, not too hot, not too bland. The cashew chicken and vegetarian dish were super spicy, watch out for that if you're a bit of a pansy. The menu has an amusing guide as to how hot the dishes are, and the words "mild" and "medium" do not come into play! 6 dishes were enough to feed 9 people with a few leftovers. On the plus side, they were nice enought to not ask us to get the hell out when we'd long finished our meal and were still yakking away. I give it 3 stars, gently wavering on the edge of 2 for me not getting my damn jasmine tea!

I have eaten at the Siam Kitchen many times and find that it is a very consistent experience. Really good food, served in a timely fashion, a medium decor restaurant. The only real draw back is that the service feels "brisk" rather than friendly. Obviously the brisk service is not that much of a put off since I keep going back!
