WOW. That's all I have to say about the dinner and show performance here. I loved every minute spent here. It was well worth the ticket and I would come her over and over again.

I came here for the Quentin Tarantino show 2 months back. Fortunately I was able to attain tickets through Goldstar for half the price but I could honestly say that I wouldn't mind paying for the full price for them. The actors totally deserve all the credit.

    Food:
I would recommend coming as soon as their doors open so you can eat your dinner and get it out of the way. You don't want to be eating when the show starts because you won't want to peel your eyes away from the performance. I don't have much to say about the food. They were all mediocre and we only ate because of their 2 item minimum.

    Show:
The show was so great! All the actors were such great singers and entertainers. The venue is small so they will be all up in your face and space. It's very intimate.

The only negative thing I could say about this was that the venue is super small and tight. I love that it's all pretty much arranged seated or at least it was for my party of 6. Once you sit down, don't expect to be able to get up freely until the end of the show. There's hardly any room to stand around, let alone breathe. We actually texted our orders to our server and our food was passed onto by people from neighboring tables. BUT apparently they're expanding the space (thank god) so I'm looking forward to the extra leg room.

I can honestly say hands down this has been the BEST dining/entertainment experience I've ever had. The food is good, but the performance was effing insane! I give these guys so much credit, they are all ridiculously talented and so entertaining. The atmosphere, energy, everything was phenomenal

I had a groupon and watched "For the Record: Baz Luhrmann". I still feel like I robbed this place; I mean 60 bucks for two tickets and 50 dollars worth of food? I will definitely be back with some more friends groupon or not because this place is freak'n incredible.

One of the most fun things you can do in LA with your clothes on that won't get you arrested!

Seriously, the mix of squeezing 100 people into a tiny room for dinner and raucous 360 degree show works in every conceivable way.

The food: While the show doesn't start until 9:00, I highly recommend getting there by 7:30ish for dinner to secure a good. Nothing was amazing, but most everything was pretty good. The best was the Skillet cookie (their version of pizookie)...yum!

The show: WOW What mix of crazy, fun, sexy, edgy and amazing performances! Just imagine people dancing and singing around you and next to you, on you if you're lucky and on the bar. The performers are fantastic with some some serious powerhouse voices and range (everything from show tunes to Credence Clearwater to opera to Spanish). Some of the performers have seriously starred on Broadway and/or TV shows and the talent shows!

This definitely not for everyone. First, it is SUPER tight quarters...so be prepared to be squished together and check your claustrophobia or need for elbow room at the door. The tables are also insanely small...so expect a juggling act with your food and plates (my wife and I shared a water glass to conserve table space). It's definitely R rated and not recommended for the modest, easily offended or kids.

It is in the process of expanding to nearly double the size so it can hold more people and be less crowded. While that will be great in some respects, the cramped quarters is part of the charm. It gives it a fun underground speakeasy type feeling and I recommend going before the expansion. Because it really is something unique and special.

Another tip: Watch one or two of the movies before going here to refresh your memory (for Coen Bros, go with The Big Lebowski and O'Brother").

5 stars...2 thumbs up...A perfect 10...insert whatever other top score you like because there is no praise too high for Show at Barre!

I have no idea why this is reviewed so well. I guess it's fun to see people sing, but I'm genuinely surprised to see folks happy to pay $35/ticket and a 2 item per-person minimum to watch young actors do "scene study" of good movies.

Imagine paying 100 bucks to watch somebody else do karaoke. That's what it works out to if you take a date.

I would have loved to see some creative re-interpretation or something besides a parroting of movie quotes peppered throughout a 2 hour screaming sing-along. Seems like you could do something much shorter, much cheaper, and much more interesting.

Dinner and show in this city is pretty much a dying breed, unless you count Medieval Times, which would really only get my 8th grade self going, or comedy clubs, which are cool, but it's more about being mildly entertained while drinking. And of course, there's the always out of this world drag show but after you go the first time, the novelty of it thins out.

So, needless to say I was pretty "whatever" about hitting up Show at Barre for the reincarnation of the Coen Brothers cabaret, but I can proudly say that it is a truly unique experience here in LA that everyone should look into when planning an opposite of boring night out on the town.

It's a $35 entertainment charge, which is the equivalent you would pay to see a live music jam session at The Troubadour or The Wiltern, and then I believe there is a two-drink minimum on top of this, but it's not at all annoying like at comedy clubs because you're so engulfed in the spirit of the evening that you will want to keep drinking just to feel like you're part of the show. They also have food (get the meatballs!) from Vermont Restaurant that you can munch on before the show starts (you can order during the show, but it's a little awkward to munch down on a fork full of ball when one of the performers is next to you belting out a song with a tiny bit of the spotlight on your face).

The performance was a real treat. It was very interactive since they work the room like politicians, hitting every mark from front to back, left to right. They become characters for the various titles they're parodying - hysterical (Fargo), sultry and sexy (O Brother Where Art Thou), and silly (The Big Lebowski) - and not only are they fantastic at getting into the roles, they can really carry a serious note or 20! The house band is outstanding as well.

I've also seen snippets of their tribute to Quentin Tarrantino and that's been bodacious as well.

Sure, a night in playing Scrabble, having a living room picnic, and drinking wine is cute and all, but when you're ready to date night out with the big leagues, take your SO to Show at Barre (also great for groups - not just partners)!

    Encore please!

The energy, intimacy and performers still leave me so impressed. I can't wait to take my friends here! I recently went to the opening of the Coen Brothers and loved every musical sound and note. Sitting at the bar meant being part of the action and it was so fun getting to watch the performers up close and personal. They were all so talented, my gosh!

Traditional musicals are going to have to step up their game 'cause after coming to the Show at Barre, I'm going to expect all my other live theatre experiences to be as lively and interactive, if not more!

Okay...so I used to seriously complain about the lack of culture and subculture in LA.  I was missing the crazy, raw, seedy, and incredibly talented shows in the village (NYC of course!), but DAMN!  SHOW AT BARRE is seriously an amazing night of entertainment.  I felt like I was in some dive bar in the east village witnessing a cast of incredibly talented and raw performers coming alive right before my eyes.  It's kinda like seeing RENT up close and personal.  I felt like a kid again...like the first time I saw Peter Pan the musical as a five year old child; wide eyed and curious and full of expectations.  Accept here, I was a bit sleepy eyed from the alcohol.~_~

Being that we were all single, we decided to see the BAZ LUHRMAN show.  So as four girls are having the time of our lives, of course this included some alcohol and more for others; our dessert of chocolate chip cookie a la mode and bread pudding came out...Imagine 4 semi drunk girls sitting around a very small table diving into two of the best desserts we've ever had!!!  We're eating, drinking, coming up for air and at the same time trying to watch the show...it was all quite complicated hand eye coordination going on.  WOW!  Seriously one of the best times I've ever had in LA!  This isn't a place for the straight laced, but if you're looking for something different and FUN, SHOW AT BARRE is amazing!!

    CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK!!

I can't remember the last time I had so much fun at a live show.  The talent is rock solid - the singing, the acting, and especially the band!  I could not stop smiling through the entire show and my cheeks were aching at the end.  The food is delicious as well.  All around, an extraordinary night and I can't wait to go again!

    How cool was this??!?

This was one of the most unique things that I have done during my 10+ years living in Los Angeles.  We got a deal on GoldStar ($20 all in, per person) for tickets to "For the Record: Baz Luhrmann" on Saturday night.  I really had no idea what to expect, but as a Baz Luhrmann fan was excited for whatever was in store. I didn't even check the yelp! reviews until the day of the show when I was looking for the address, and saw all the glowing reviews for "Show at Barre".  Only then did I realize that I was in for something pretty special.

Just as a heads up - there is a two item minimum per person.. but that is ITEM not drink (and they have a full menu there), and I'm also not sure how much they really enforce it. We did happen to come out to ten items for five people, but we weren't really trying. I think it's just encouragement not to just sit there and to support the establishment.

So, brace yourself for the fact that the restaurant is REALLY small, which is part of what makes it so special.  It's a crowded restaurant in of itself, but then they add a show to it where there's people dancing in the aisles and on chairs and on the bar...

The seating is "first come first served" and "at their discretion". And there is a HUGE disparity in seating. We were lucky enough to have what they proclaimed the best seats in the house, because they are right next to the stage and you have a full view of everything in the restaurant.  Many of the tables are obstructed from seeing what's happening on the bar, or in the other room, etc.  So BE NICE to the people that are seating you, because if they don't like you, they can stick you in the back.

We ate at Rockwell VT, one of their sister restaurants next door, so they reserved a table for us for the show.

Be prepared for tight spaces and squeezing around.. in order to get to our table, we had to make people stand up, then get onto the stage, and climb into the table (as the server put it, it's like "getting in a hot tub"). And once the show is started, people pass drinks and things from the server down to you, like you do at a football game. And - this was perhaps one of my favorite things - our server gave us his phone # and said to "text him if we need anything".  We thought he was  joking but it was for real.

Since we had already eaten dinner next door, we just had sweet potato fries (HUGE order - 5 of us couldn't even finish it), the chocolate cake (with ice cream) and the cookie with ice cream (it's like a BJ's pizookie but BETTER).  Delicious. All of it.

As for the show, it was super fun. Just imagine people dancing and singing around you and next to you and around you and on the bar. And the people are extremely talented, begging the question for me of if they were really getting paid enough for their talent at this small venue.  Seriously, some of these people have starred on broadway, and my personal favorite, the hunky Peter Porte is on the Young and the Restless.

It's definitely not for everyone (I think my parents would have a heart attack here) and definitely not for people that are claustrophobic or don't like being crowded, but I think it's a self-selecting audience and the people who do go here will truly love it. I already want to go back and see the Quentin Tarantino show.

NOTE: They announced to us that they will be expanding into a space twice the size (holding 200 instead of 100 people) once they get the city permit, which is awesome, but I also recommend trying to get there before that happens, to get a feel for the way that it is now. Because it really is something unique and special.

    HOLY BATMAN this was fun!

I am a big fan of Baz Luhrmann and am VERY familiar with his movies and the songs (sorry to anyone that we may have annoyed by shamelessly singing along).

The whole show was a blast, well put together, amazing performers, super fun selection and organization of the show. HOT DAMN it was fun.

I recommend sitting more in the center, while we thought we scored by getting a seat just across from the stage at the booth but the show is ALL over that room. On the bar, on either of the stages... outside hanging from a tree... so you kind of want to be in the middle. When sitting at the actual booth you miss chunks of what is going on.

Show up early to make sure you get good seating.

Moulin Rouge is by far my most favorite musical in existence. After getting tickets to "For the Record: Baz Luhrmann", I made the boyfriend rewatch Moulin Rouge with me 2 days before the show (his 2nd time, my umpteenth time) to make sure we could properly soak up the atmosphere.

The show covers Romeo & Juliet, Strictly Dancing (1st half) & Moulin Rouge (2nd half). All the vocalists are AMAZING and the intimate atmosphere really makes you feel like you are a part of the entire production. Surprisingly, I found my favorite portion to be Strictly Dancing because of its high energy (even though it was the shortest portion) and humor. I'm such a Moulin Rouge purist that any tweaks in the way the songs are arranged drive me a little insane (and the guy who played Ewan McGregor's character..I just couldn't picture him as a convincing Christian - their cast is rotating), but I'm just being nitpicky since the entire show was a joy to experience.

    Food Review:
    - Wild Mushroom Flatbread pizza ($14): really good portion size. kinda bland tasting though.
    - "Barre" Burger ($14): tasty & large. comes with a side of fries (you can swap it for sweet potato fries, salad, mashed potatoes - we got mashed potatoes & it was deliciously creamy).
    - Skillet cookie (their version of pizookie - $8): good portion, perfect for sharing.1st bite - delicious. 2nd bite - nauseatingly sweet. They put chocolate syrup on top of the cookie & i think it makes it waaaaaay too sweet. Only the ice cream offsets the sweetness combo of cookie + syrup. Ask them to hold the syrup for it to be perfect.
    - Orange Muscat wine ($9): wasn't as light as I expected it to be.

Venue & parking: A little bit difficult to find. You go through the back entrance & then straight through a door. They didn't check us in until about 75 min before the show started (even though tickets say doors open at 90 min before). Seating is 1st come, 1st serve so I would definitely be there right when they open to get great seats. The performers are mostly in the front. Bar seating is good for watching but I prefer back support. Valet parking in the back lot, metered parking on the street, or walk a block or 2 for free residential parking.

Even with discounted tickets from Goldstar ($17.50 + $4 service fee per ticket), you are looking at spending about $80-100 altogether for a night for 2 due to the 2 item minimum purchase per person + 18% gratuity. Yes, pricey, but definitely worthwhile of a show to attend, especially if you are a Moulin Rouge fan like me dying for a musical version of the movie to appear!

    - I believe Moulin Rouge only runs until March...in Spring 2012, they are opening a 200 seat showroom (to feature new concert series: Martin Scorsese, Paul Thomas Anderson, Cameron Crowe, Tim Burton). A bit of a shame but understandable, because part of the amazingness is due to the small venue.

    Spectacular! Spectacular!

Last night was the first time attending a wonderful performance at Show At Barre.  For the Record: Baz Luhrmann show was outstanding!  To be up close and apart of the action made the entire experience a hit! Bravo to the performers, restaurant staff, and creators of the show! Truly was a moving experience that made me fall in love with life again.  My face hurts from smiling and laughing so much.

Live theater, great food, and awesome cocktails this was one of the best experiences I have had since moving out to LA.  Cannot wait to go back and enjoy! All the hard work they have done is much appreciated, thank you!

Yes, I just issued 5 stars. Lemme 'splain why.

The area is small and crowded but this is part of the reason for the high rating. The performers utilize their space creatively and effectively. The lack of a grand space means that you really get up close and personal with the performers (I saw nose hairs people!).

The concept is simple: scenes from movies performed by the singers/actors followed by a musical performance of a song in the movie. The voices were all powerful and a few were even unique. Some of the performers even interact with the audience while in character.

There is a 2 item minimum and they serve food. We stuck with the libations and didn't feel cheated on the alcohol. They automatically include an 18% gratuity to your bill which is well deserved. The servers continue to bring you food and drinks as the performance is going on and do an excellent job at squeezing into tight spots without ruining the performance.

I will definitely come back and I will definitely recommend.

I saw the Cohen Brothers show. I was expecting a cabaret, but it was so much more than that. They quality of talent is outstanding (many of the actors are literally plucked right from starring roles in shows on Broadway), and they manage to use the available space creatively. There are literally no "bad" seats, as the venue is very intimate. I can't wait to go back again, and bring all of my friends, especially anyone visiting LA. This is something you won't want to miss.

In a city full of unique and extraordinary activities, shame on you if your date nights only consist of going to the movies.  You're not taking full advantage of what Los Angeles has to offer.  To remedy this start by checking out Show At Barre.

It's basically a live theatrical concert where they act out scenes from movies in full costume while singing some of the popular songs in the soundtrack.  Different nights have different themes.  The night I went it was "Tarantino In Concert".  The theme was scenes and songs from Quentin Tarantino's movies like Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, etc.

It was a GREAT performance!  High energy, engaging, and über entertaining.

You can also order food and drinks while you enjoy the show.  The food here is pretty damn good and as a cherry on top, VERY reasonably priced.  All the entrees are under $20.

Heard enough?  Well then button your pants, exit out of those sketchy websites, and take someone to Show At Barre!  Check out Goldstar for discounted tickets!

I came across Show At Barre while randomly looking for things to do on YELP.  One of the reviewers wrote that there was a Gold Star special pricing for the John Hughes show so I decided to go with my friends.  I think I paid about $20 with the discount. We went to the 9pm show, they let us in around 8:15pm. Make sure to get there early, the seating location is first come first serve and it's key to whether you are comfortable or stuck in a corner. The outside signage for this place can be a little confusing. Look for the Vermont Kitchen & Bar or RockwellVT - they are all connected and part of the same building. They offer valet parking in the back but if you go one block over you can self park for $5.

The show room is small and a tight squeeze. They did announce that in March of 2012, they are knocking down some walls and expanding. Thank goodness because you are sitting shoulder to shoulder with everyone. I purposely tried to get a table on the side so that it would be easier for us to go to the bathroom.  Our server was absolutely FANTASTIC.  I was so impressed that they can rush out our food and drinks before the show started while squeezing through crowds of people - he didn't forget a single thing and had the best personality.  The food was good. I had the lobster bisque which was really good. My sister had the sliders and I liked it as well. My friend had the BBQ Chicken Flatbread pizza which I thought was ok (he loved it though).

The show itself was very energetic and fun. It's a group of people who all but one can sing incredibly well - they did various songs from the John Hughes movies...like "weird science", "Don't You Forget About Me" from The Breakfast Club and "Twist & Shout" from Ferris Buellers Day Off. I believe there was a total about 28 songs and the show last about an hour and a half. They act out some scenes from the movies which helps to lead up to the specific song. They dance and they use the whole room for their show so you are constantly turning all around to see everyone. Many of the reviewers state that every seat is great but I don't agree. I wouldn't want to sit at the bar because they do get on top of the bar to dance. I think the back center tables are the best. You don't have to turn too much to see everyone.

I think the John Hughs show is over and they are on to another great show. Check out their website for their latest show.

I had such a terrible experience with this place last weekend that I've been inspired to write my first Yelp review.

First off, let me say that I am a huge Baz Luhrman fan and when I saw a Groupon deal for dinner and a show, I jumped at the chance to get it even though I had never heard of this place.  When I made my reservation over the phone, the person I spoke with was rude; I should have taken it as a warning.

The show was supposed to start at 9:00.  We arrived 8:00 and when I gave my name to the person at the entrance, he barely glanced at his list before telling me that he didn't have my reservation and that they were completely booked for the night.  My reservation had been made a month in advance and I had already called beforehand to confirm!  He then gave me two free drink coupons and told me to wait in a separate outdoor bar area while he would "see what he could do".  He didn't ask me to repeat my name and I am sure he didn't bother remember it.  He said that he would come to the bar and find me around 9:00 or a little after, when the show was due to start.

The bar was outdoors and I did not have a sweater or jacket since I wasn't expecting to spend my night in the cold.  The Groupon came with dinner, so the entire time we waited we did not order any food because we were expecting our reservation to be found.  We waited for TWO HOURS for him in the bar before we finally left.  On our way out, he LIED and said he tried to look for us and then offered to let us watch the second half of the show that was supposedly completely booked.

According to the other reviews, it seemed like it might've been a good show.  It just turned out to be a total waste of my Saturday night.

Also, I tried to call to complain but my phone call was never returned.  And since they take your credit card number when you book, I have been constantly monitoring mine to make sure I'm not going to be charged for this reservation that supposedly couldn't be found.

I expected a fun show with good actors. no. not good. AMAZING. These were seriously broadway singer/actors who were so talented I'm surprised they're all famous. It's been a week and I'm still thinking about how good Baz Luhrmann show was and singing the songs in my head. They do things like get up on the bars to dance and grab peoples forks and use them as props. In the end I wished all of the actors were my BFFs for realz. The food was great too. Entrees in the $20 range, kind of fancy, great quality and very tasty. The Bistro salad with pork belly and Jidori Chicken were great. This is great place for a date but arrive early so that you can get some talking in before the show.

    * Tip: Arrive early for good seats (valet in the back is only $5)

After reading about this venue on Yelp, I was anxious to try it. But being a native Angelian, and current Westsider, I did not know when I'd make it, since when am I ever on that side of town? AMAZINGLY one of my favorite LA performers, Brenna Whitaker announced she would be part of several performances during the recent John Hughes review! Well, that sealed the deal right then and there.

So, one of the things I can't stand, is when people expect waiters, staff, service peeps, etc to sing and dance for their tips. I'm a human, they're humans. If we all just act like humans... its cool. But you know you live in a major city when you're actually impressed by how nice the staff is. Everyone at Barre was extremely friendly: the host, the waiter, the food runner, the MC and the random guitarist we said goodbye to at the end. EXTREMELY friendly.... As for the show, I haven't had so much good, clean fun since the first time I rode the Bear Jamboree ride at Disneyland. The food and drinks are surprisingly tasty. There's a live band, there's skits, they sing, they dance, there's dancing on the tables, dancing on the bar. Do I really need to say anything else?

My wife found out about this somehow on the web I think - I'd never heard of it but I love theater and c'mon - dinner and a show?  Sign me up.
The first night I ever came to check this place out was for the Baz Luhrmann special and I found myself sharing a stool with the incredibly talented (and gorgeous) Tracie Thoms from Rent.
The show was awesome..... and if you enjoy intimate theater.... there IS no other theater more intimate that this.  The performers are literally in contact with you if you are anywhere near the bar or the aisle.
We have also been to see the John Hughes which is a must for all 80's kids.  It's a bit noisy so if you have sensitive ears, bring some ear plugs.  They have a live band which kicks ass - that would be worth it in itself!
On top of which there is good food!  It's mostly yummy, down the middle of the road type stuff like pizza but all very good.
My wife and I have been to the actual restaruant for dinner as well.  Unfortunately I cannot remember what we ordered but I do remember enjoying it very much.

This is an amazing evening and something totally unique in Los Angeles, you NEED to check this out!!

I went here on a double date solely based on the reviews of yelp. I had no idea what to expect. And I was pleasantly surprised. We came early, as recommended, so that we could get a full dinner in before the show. We were seated at a great table and we ordered a few cocktails. My whisky cocktail came out too sweet, which the bartender was happy to remake a much stiffer version. They even offered us to keep the original!

Given the season, we decided to order off the DineLA menu. The lobster bisque was great, but small, and the spinach salad was very good. There was another starter that my friend had ordered that was like a tomato tarte with an olive tapenade. I tasted it and the olive tapenade was unbearable for some reason. It was incredibly salty and fishy - don't ask me why.

Moving on to the main course, I ordered the duck medallions and my wife ordered the butterfish. My duck was good, nothing special, and the butterfish was not worth eating. It was obviously not fresh because it was tough (the opposite of butterfish), not flakey, and tasted a little old. It was sent back and replaced with a mushroom ravioli which was mediocre as well.

I finished the meal with a absinthe/whiskey sipper that I savored and lasted me most of the show. The fun and the atmosphere made up for the off-night in the kitchen. We did not order from their normal menu, so I will give them the benefit of the doubt and come back to try their normal fare.

I just got home from the best night of theater of my life.

"For The Record: Baz Luhrmann" was amazing.  Everything was top-notch: The singers, the musicians, the sound mix, the use of space, the directing.

I'm a fan of the source material and had wanted to come during it's previous run.  I made sure to buy tickets this time around and my expectations were exceeded.  Really.  Everyone involved was amazing and I could find no faults.  Very fun.

If you've made it this far, just buy a ticket.  I certainly hope to go again.

My only regret is that I could not find the cast after the show to shower them with adoration.

One of my most awesome evenings in a LONG time!! Went here with groupon on a Girls Night Out, and man we were all SO STOKED!!! Went to the "For the Record: John Hughes" show and it was young, fun, hip, casual, and cool, all mixed together.

The venue is great! The entrance is in the back, behind the Vermont Restaurant face. You walk through the hallway and end up in an intimate space with a stage up front and down the middle. *TIP* try to get seated near the stage. We did, and we ended up getting a free shot from one of the performers, and one of our girls got a slow dance during a Prom scene. SUPER CUTE!

The food is also WAYYY better than I was expecting. I was prepared for your typical bar food drill, but we had prosciutto-wrapped scallops, awesome hummus, crab cakes, etc. It was defintely good, and on the fancier end of bar foods.

The staff is SO NICE! Our waiter was making jokes the entire night and helping us feel welcome. Dealing with a group of hungry girls can be intimidating, but he was the only man for the job!

Finally THE SHOW!!! OMG, it was awesome. The singers are so talented, such power house voices! They totally take over the space, and sing and dance around you as you enjoy your food and laugh with your friends/family. It's awesome. It feels intimate but still hip and young.

I loved it so much I would so come back even full price. You just have to pay for the show and then 2 item minimum (but drinks count!! Yay! and *TIP* a bottle of wine counts as 4 items!) Show up early (we came right at 7.30pm (when doors open) for the 9pm show, and the good seats were filled by 8pm).

    CANT wait to go back!

We have been to three of the Show at the Barre shows in the past year and I cannot say enough about it or tell enough people to go see this! The level of talent and creativity put into their performances is incredible. I feel so honored to have something this fantastic and accessible in my own city. This is a fabulous date night idea, so bring someone you want to impress with your cultural prowess!

Okay so I went here for the first time last night to watch the Quintin Tarantino show "For the Record". The actors are fantastical and truly give their all to their performances. The entire cast is mufti-talented and gifted to say the least. If you don't know this show is a musical and theatrical reenactment of some scenes from Tarantino's most famous movies and a few select songs from each of their soundtracks. Brilliant concept!

I ordered the spicy tuna tacos, YUM, and so tiny and cute. My friends ordered sliders, chicken and cheese empanadas, and fries, respectively. The only complaint was the empanadas so I don't think I would recommend them over any thing else we had.  But everything else was tasty! The bar at Barre has some really cool drinks there, in addition to a full bar, just in case you're afraid of specialty beverages they can make you pretty much anything else.
I went with a group of friends and we all really enjoyed this show. Whether you're a Tarantino fanatic or just a non hater you can definitely enjoy this experience. Its Broadway meets dinner theater and not in a cheesy way. Interactive and fun but not too outrageously invasive.

My only complaint is the teeny tiny space that all the attendees and the actors were squeezed into, you will get to be everyone's neighbor. It made for a super intimate performance but seriously challenging for the restaurant staff to maneuver but hopefully that will all change when they take the show to SXSW festival in March. Oh and I wanted to mention the two item minimum per person because I didn't know before hand so I thought it good to mention. = )

Food & Fun/Cost: (5/5) Fellow Yelper Christina C. found a deal to the "For the Record: Baz Luhrmann" show ($17.50/person sale price on Goldstar; $35/person regular price) and our group of 5 chose to come here last Friday for the 9pm showing. And I'm so grateful to her :) We arrived ~8:00pm to feast on some food (they abide by a 2 item minimum here for shows) before the show. I opted for the Spicy Tuna Tacos ($13) which turned out to be delightful as they harbored ample portions of raw spicy tuna within taro "taco shells," and topped with a few sprigs of spicy herbs. I'm a hug fan of taro and spicy tuna components individually, and they combined surprisingly well into one dish here. Just a word of advice, I'd wait a couple minutes for the taro shells to soften before biting into the tacos -- or else the shells are nearly teeth shattering. I also tasted my friend's Goat Cheese & Truffle Ravioli ($18), which was delicious but very rich; the Hot Skinny Fries ($6), which were nicely seasoned; Sweet Potato Fries ($6), which were good but not particularly special given the other great dishes; and the Triple Dip ($10), which came with some surprisingly springy flatbread and three dips of which only the hummus I found noteworthy and flavorful. We then proceeded to enjoy the first half of the theater portion of the night -- Romeo & Juliet. Amazing vocals. It was a little tiring watching the show though as the troupe uses the entire room -- stage, between tables, the bar counter, the back, etc. -- and I had to continuously whip my head every which way to keep up with the show. Still, a small price to pay. Then, during intermission we ordered out desserts (all $8) -- the "Gultin-Free" Chocolate Cake  and the Apple Tarte Tatin. The Chocolate cake was a winner; it featured a not-too-sweet chocolate cake with a caramel interior that perfectly moistened each bite and came with vanilla ice cream (the menu had noted espresso, but for some reason we got vanilla). I also tried the Apple Tarte Tatin, but did not care for it at all. It was just slices of naked apple arranged prettily. During dessert we enjoyed the second portion of the show -- Moulin Rouge. And oh was it spectacular! The comedic characters were hilarious (hint: look for a guy in the tree outside!), the love scenes were heart-warming, and of course the music was breath-taking. Oh what a wonderful night.

Ambiance: (5/5) It's tiny here but they manage to cram a surprising number of people in here. I would say about 50 people? If you're not lucky enough to sit on the side booth seats, the chairs a  tad uncomfortable as you have to hunch  over the small tables, but once the show started  you'll be too engrossed in the performance to notice. despite the small size -- or perhaps because of it -- its very cozy and intimate of the performance space. The dim lighting and the flickering of the [fake] candles also make for a great atmosphere.

Service: (5/5) Our waiter/server was awesome. He made our whole table feel welcome and came back -- despite a packed house -- to check up on us throughout the night. Even more impressive, he often had to maneuver in semi-darkness and throughout the tiny, cramped space to bring people food and drinks. I usually don't like it when places add on gratuity automatically to bills, but here (between the serving staff and performers) it was well-deserved.

Location: (5/5) Barre is located in the upbeat neighborhood of Los Feliz. Its a popular area -- trendy and stylish without being stuffy or too pretentious. Parking is found on the street or in the lots found in the back of some of the venues. We chose the parking lot behind the Dresden between Melbourne and Kingswell as it seemed cheaper than others ($3.50 for patrons at the Dresden; $5 for all others).

Overall: (5/5) I love this place and my fellow Yelpers who introduced me to it! I had such a great night filled with amazing music and delicious food. I must come back for their other shows!

The night was pure MAGIC.  The ticket was well worth the price - the show was INCREDIBLE.  I was blown away by the talent and have not had this good of a time in LA in so long - it really felt like seeing an intimate cabaret show in NYC.  But electric, up on your feet, singing out loud kind of show.

Additionally, the service by our waiter Chris was flawless - he handled a rowdy table of 22 with grace and ease and we got all our drinks and food perfectly.  Plus he was incredibly knowledgeable about the show and upcoming shows - we'll definitely be back for Scorsese.

Excited to see such a well done live show in LA.

This review is for their show "For the Record: Baz Luhrmann". As you can tell by my five star rating, I LOVED IT. In fact, I loved it so much that I came back two more times after my first performance!

Parking here is decent. If you're lucky, you can find street parking after circling maybe 2-3 times. If you're short on time (or luck), then there is valet parking behind the Dresden (just a block north of Barre) for $5. Or if you can't be bothered to walk a block, there's valet parking right behind Barre for $6.

The space here is small, but I like the intimate feel. It can get a bit crowded if there's a large party, but it still works. They did say that they're knocking down one of the walls so that it can be a room for 200 people, so I'm definitely looking forward to that. But the performers and the staff are so coordinated and agile and great at maneuvering between each other and the audience. The servers continue to bring out food and drinks and clear tables throughout the performance, which is quite a feat! And they do it all with a smile and such kind service. The automatically-added gratuity is more than deserved on their part.

There is a two-item minimum per person here, but luckily their menu is quite enticing. Items that I have tried:
{Salad} Arugula & Little Gem Lettuce: Meyer lemon vinaigrette, crispy shallots, walnut, goat cheese (got it with walnuts on the side)
-- This was decent. I didn't care for it much. Wouldn't recommend it.
{Shared Plates} Chicken and Cheese Empanadas: avocado dip
-- These were pretty good. They give a good amount and it's quite filling. You still need that second item if you're ordering this for dinner though.
{Shared Plates}Spicy Tuna Tacos: jicama slaw, taro root shells
-- Okay, so I didn't actually try this since I don't eat tuna, but I have heard great things about this. If you like tuna and taro, I would definitely recommend getting this. I've come here three times with three different groups of people, and this item was ordered every single time. And it was enjoyed.
{Shared Plates}Triple Dip: white bean hummus, red pepper Romesco, spinach artichoke dip, flatbread
-- This was also just okay for me. The hummus was the best one, but I didn't really like it, which doesn't say much for the other two dips.
{Shared Plates} Sweet Potato Fries: roasted red bell pepper dip
-- I get this every time I come. I love sweet potato fries. They're not anything spectacular here, but I do like the creamy dip that they come with.
{Shared Plates} Hot & Skinny Fries: tomatillo aioli
-- These were just okay. Not a fan.
{Entree} Goat Cheese & Truffle Ravioli: roasted tomato puree, pine nut pesto, basil, Parmigiano Reggiano
-- Why I ordered this when I don't like goat cheese is beyond me. I love ravioli so I thought that would make up for it. Nope. But the server said this is a popular item.
{Dessert} Apple Tarte Tatin: whipped cream
-- It tasted good... for a roasted apple. It seems like they just roasted an apple, sliced it, and tada! Dessert.
{Dessert} Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding: caramel sauce and vanilla bean ice cream
-- This was pretty good at first with the ice cream, but then it became just pure chocolate and that was a bit overwhelming.

Their drinks are pretty good too. I had their Quady Elysium 2005 Black Muscat and it was a nice sweet wine that I enjoyed. My friend ordered their Stoli Blueberry Lemon Drop and thought it was pretty good, albeit a little strong.

Now onto the performance. They perform all of "Romeo & Juliet" (9 songs), four songs from "Strictly Ballroom", and after intermission they perform all of "Moulin Rouge" (17 songs). They are in costume the entire time and it is absolutely wonderful. Their voices are AMAZING and their performances are SPECTACULAR as well. I loved their renditions of these beloved songs and I cannot get their performances out of my mind. I highly recommend this show to everyone (it's showing until March 4) and I'm confident that the other shows here are stellar as well.

I also recommend coming at least an hour before the show starts. This gives you time to eat and drink without distraction, as once the show starts you'll be too engrossed in the performance to pay attention to your food. This also gives you the opportunity to pick a good seat. While there are no bad seats here, some seats definitely require more head-turning and neck-craning than others. The performers really utilise the ENTIRE space--they're on the two stages, on the bar, leaning against the back wall, maneuvering between tables, and even going outside! You will most definitely love it!

Got a deal on Goldstar, even though a couple days later I heard there was a fantastic Groupon deal.  We went to the For the Record: Baz Luhrmann show.  Got there an hour and a half early as recommended, and it was crowded! The space is REALLY TIGHT!  (They must violate the fire code, but they said in a month they'll knock down a wall and have enough seats for 200+ people to watch.)   I love Luhrmann's music especially from "Moulin Rouge", and everyone in the cast has an amazing voice and are all very talented!  I want to see the Tarantino show next!  Food was good but a little pricey.  Get the spicy tuna tacos!  Those were my favorite!

Valet! Good 'za! Pear martinis! Good temperature inside. Crowded... Every seat a good seat, your name is already on an assigned table... So it's not really "open" seating. Entertainment-- singers cool factor @ 5*. it threw me off at first to see a Hispanic Mr. Pink & Caucasian Samuel Jackson Eziekel -ing.... But it is cool race doesn't matter when you've got voices like this cast. Handsome and gorgeous singers. Wonderful entertainment. Nice crowd mix all races all ages. Nice peeps & friendly, they chat with you & many regulars so this venue is A plus in my book. If only I didn't drink so many martinis... Good thing my date drove!!!

    Avoid tomato oatmeal appetizer-- meh.
Crab cakes YuM -- sauce on side too many onions.
Mushroom pizza also had many onions but they can be picked off although the flavor was already infused/ baked in.

Waiter was the bomb!!! Cute and good at their job. Excellent service. Excellent venue. Valet. Not too expensive. Got out for under 150.00$ for La La land-- for two with drinks & valet--- this is good.  Now off to city walk to shake bunny tails & calories.

Went there for the show "For the Record: John Hughes" and loved it! The cast was extremely talented and the show was packed with so much energy. It was cool, hip, funny, heart-warming and intimate-all at the same time! The restaurant itself is tiny, it was a struggle to just get to our tables and order the food. The food is excellent but 2 item minimum per person (we were 3 of us so had to order 6 items off the menu-sorry, but I don't understand that!)

My husband was seated with his back towards the main stage and there was hardly any space to turn his chair around, so his neck was not happy :( Other than the poor space management and the strange seating (but they don't really let you choose the seats), this was definitely a great night out!

I attended For The Record: The Music of Quentin Tarantino's Films Live via Goldstar on a Saturday Night a few weeks ago and I really enjoyed every minute being there, The Host is really upbeat and very friendly, A+ Host in my book.

Arrived there 10 minutes before the show started do to another previous engagement and we had two choices, bar or last two tables towards the back, I choose the last table, Yea, always been that type of person.

I had a few Shock Tops and tried their appetizer items :

Chicken & Cheese Empanadas w/ avocado dip y Calamari, both were delicious, small portions, but did the trick.

The show is magnificent, All smiles from beginning to end, cast was on point !

So if you are on Goldstar or just want to watch a real cool show wing song & dance w/ a killer band as backup, check this place out.

    I will for sure return!

What more can I say that isn't adequately expressed with a 5 star review?

We came back THREE times (yes, it was that good) for the Baz Luhrmann performance, made the Coen Brothers show once and are eargerly awaiting tonight's Tarantino performance!

I for one really enjoy the feel of the tiny (yet eloquently designed) space. It brings the performers within arm's reach and in turn incorporates the audience into the show! The performers have all been consistently outstanding. Really and truly. GO!

I am absolutely in love with this little wonderland! I found about this place from Groupon. I was in LA for Valentine's weekend to see my boyfriend and I happened to stumble on this piece of joy when looking up fun things to do for Valentines. I ended up buy a package from Groupon for $60 which included show tickets for two and $50 credit for dinner at the show. I bought the Groupon Wednesday and called to see if they had availability on Saturday. They were completely sold out so I was bummed, but I was able to make a reservation Sunday night.

We arrive at the place at 6:30 as per the recommendation of my Yelp reviewers to ensure that we can be seated in a good spot and get a decent dinner before the show. We parked for free across the street at Bank of America (we were a little nervous about doing that but everyone we asked said it was okay). You have to walk through Vermont Restaurant (a little confusing) to get into the show. Once we figured that out we were a little surprised to see about 8 couples already in line before us. I was getting nervous about seating because I heard it was super small. Luckily, the seating host told us that the bar was still available and that those were great seats because you're above everyone and you can see "all stages" including the bar which is also a stage. We didn't really know what he meant at the point but we figured we had no choice but to trust him so we took those seats. Our other option was sharing tables with couples already sitting down at super tiny tables (made for 2 but seated 4). Thank god we sat at the bar because we really did have the best seats. The "stage" performers move all throughout the room and if you're at the bar you see everything so try to get those seats (it helps when you're 5'4 like me and can't see over people's head too!)

There food was NOTHING like bar food which you'd expect. They had a fun and classy menu with lots of options! For dinner we ordered for appetizers the sweet potato fries (very addicting), Tuna Fish Tacos (my favorite appetizers ever. It was so yummy and flavorful and the tuna was raw so it was really nice combination between the hard taco shell and raw fish), the Tampas (not my favorite, a little dry). For dinner we got the Goat Cheese and Truffle Oil Ravioli (love love love love) and Wild Mushroom in Truffle Oil Pizza (clearly we're obsessed with truffle and for good reason. This pizza was very yummy. The mushrooms were fabulous). With a few drinks our bill ended up being $85 which is already not bad but to make it better we subtracted the $50 groupon credit so we only ended up paying $35. Gratuity was already included.

Now for the show. We saw the Baz Luhrmann For the Record and my boyfriend and I had the funnest time!! All artist were so friendly and the audience was always involved in their skits (one of the singers danced with me during a song!). We saw Romeo and Juliet first, followed by Strictly Dancing (too short for my liking, wished it was longer) and finally Moulin Rouge (LOVE). All artist were phenomenal. Great voices. Wonderful entertainment. Everything was top notch. Won't talk about the show too much because you really just must go see it! So GO! It will be a great night filled with beautiful songs and great dancing! Go Go Go!!!!

We have been to several of these shows and  now we just wait with baited breath for each next one.  Each show revolves around a director and the music of their movies, but they also have costume changes, act out the best scenes from the movies and create the best feeling of nostalgia.  The producers have been at every show we've attended, which tells me that they continue to invest and reinvest in its success.

As an aside, the food is delicious and they create specialty drinks to match the show themes.

We are true groupies.  The singers are accomplished in their own rights and just blow us away!
