Shine is the perfect clothing store for me. Made up of both eclectic new items and consignment pieces, it has designer consignment items when I want to treat myself, but also enough cheap but stylish items to satisfy the tightwad in me and occupy my friends (who clearly don't understand my designer fixation.)
Admittedly, their consignment selection isn't very large-- only a few racks near the back, but their collection is impeccably selected and very cheap. There was a Chloe (not See by Chloe, actual Chloe) dress for sub-$100, and I picked up a lovely Vena Cava dress for $60. Their new selection is also pretty good-- they have cute dresses and accessories, from local and overseas designers (I think a lot of their stuff comes from Asia, so you're bound to find something unique.)
On a recent visit, a friend of mine commented, "If I could, I'd buy everything in this store." I do concur.
LOVE this place. I walked in and had to keep my purse firmly closed at my side otherwise I would have bought everything in the store. Adorable dresses and shirts to dress up or down. There are also accessories and jewellery. Everything looks cute and unique - definitely is a must if you're looking to stand out in a crowd. Love it.
Note: when I was in, I didn't notice all that much consignment stuff - its mostly new clothing.

4. Shine Consignment Clothing
Fourth and Collingwood has a string of thrift stores that carry funky purses, shoes and clothing. Most of the merchandise however is hit or miss. Further up on Broadway and out of the consignment district, is Shine, the only store I've consistently been able to grab a knockout cocktail dress or snag an edgy office shirt and skirt. The majority of what they sell is samples, which come in limited quantities so you don't have to worry about running into your bopsie twin at a networking or social event. There's also a rack of pure consignment clothing, organized by colour in the back. Quality is equivalent to any high-end boutique (think Fine Finds in Yaletown) but prices are a 10th of the cost. You can easily snag a killer dress for under $60.

Shine is one of the best consignment clothing shops in Vancouver, hands down! You can't help but stop when you pass their amazing store window; the displays always manage to catch your eye. They've got everything from quality consignment clothing to handbags, shoes, and locally-designed jewelry. And they almost always have items on sale when I go.
It's a small shop, but it's stuffed with unique items. I would say that about 25% of my wardrobe is from Shine, and that's saying a lot! What's more, I'm usually complimented on the things I get from there. Carmen, the manager, is also very helpful. She has great taste in style, and always knows which pieces look best with what.
They get new stuff in every week, so there's something for everyone. I think a lot of their items come from Hong Kong as well, which explains the different style you get there. If you wish to sell some of your stuff, you can either make an appointment, or come in if you don't have too many items. Once your things are sold, you can pick up your cheque from them or arrange to have it transferred as store credit. Shine will take about 20% of the profit after your items are sold.
Rest assured that when you get something from Shine however, it's one-of-a-kind. You won't see anyone else wearing it in town. If you love to mix and match to have a style of your own, this is the place for you!

one of my favorites when i am in vancouver.. the owner is very nice and she has the cutest summer dresses by a line called ' button' they are all brand new...she carries ver little consignment, but who cares as the new items that she brings in are adorable and the prices are great !
Love love love Shine!! And for the record, it's not all used clothing--in fact, its over half new (samples, local designers, and imports from HongKong).
I discovered this store a little late in the game...about 6 months after I moved to Vancouver, which is sad because I live so close to it. Now that I know it's there, I cant help stopping by every time I'm in the area to see what new stuff they've brought in.
The great thing about Shine is that because it's quite a small store, they're forced to discount clothing often, in order to get rid of it to make room for whatever new stuff is coming in. This is great for me because I can't leave without buying something--I never fail to find something I like here. Bonus--there's only three or four girls working there (I think!?) so once you've stopped by a few times, you get to know everyone and there's always a friendly face after that!
..I guess my closet speaks volumes...it's about 40% all clothes and accessories from Shine. Now I know why I cant afford next semester at school...?
Shine is a great little consignment and sample store filled with a lovely selection of women's wear ranging from skirts and dresses to shoes and bags and pretty little accessories like hair clips and earrings. There is an emphasis on items that are flirtatious and pretty here, lots of colourful prints and flowing fabric. And, the prices here are generally quite reasonable, sometimes they are even downright discounted. So, if you are into pretty items that no one else will be wearing, and if you like to support local designers (the source of many of Shine's samples) it's worth it to stop in here and you'll almost certainly find something to take home with you.
Who says that a clothing store has to stick to one category? Shine impeccably combines second-hand picks (some vintage, some not) with local design and the odd bargain-priced sample. A fun place to spend some time sorting through the racks!
