Stop reading, and just BOOK THEM NOW!
Caroline and her Mom make the perfect team. Where to begin...
We decided to cater our rehearsal luncheon and explored all sorts of options. In the end, yelp steered me towards Shin Mi Catering. Now, I did go into the first meeting with great hesitation. All of the positive reviews were just filled with praise that you can't help but think, are these just all her friends posting reviews? Fear not. Shin Mi Catering has this reputation because they are 5 star all the way. We scheduled a tasting for a variety of korean food, and were blown away that this "catering" food tasted so good. We signed on the spot.
Now Caroline also recommended that we get a server for our party. Our budget was already tightening since this was one of the absolute last things on the list of to-dos, but she assured us it is provided as more of a service to the customer, than as additional profit for her. We originally weren't planning on it, but for the rather small incremental cost, we were floored when we saw how everything was setup.
We walked into our venue for the rehearsal lunch and all of the food was displayed elegantly. Food was warm in chafing dishes, drinks were setup, plates were out etc. It was above and beyond what we imagined. If you're on the fence about getting a server, just get one. Let your friends enjoy the occasion and leave the serving and setup to Shin Mi Catering.
Our guests ALL left stuffed and we had an abundance of food leftover. Afterwards Shin Mi packed everything up for easy transport of the left over food, and took all the plates, dishes, etc and left the place very clean. The food was excellent.
We loved the variety, but if there are things on the set menus you do not like, Caroline will adjust any package accordingly. She even ordered us rice cake from a local bakery and included that into the delivery, without charging us any additional fees. I love kalbi jjim. And their kalbi jjim did not disappoint. Needless to say, there was NO kalbi jjim left at the end of the day. Portions were quite generous and everyone was able try everything they wanted.
We will definitely be using Shin Mi for any other korean catering need we may ever have in the future. Really there is no reason to even TRY any where else. 5 star all the way.Listed in: Nuptial Bliss

Just one thing to say, best mussels. If you enjoy Korean food and would like to have it catered to your next event, Shin Mi Catering is the way to go. I've had tons and tons of different catering services from various different catering services. Out of the Korean ones, Shin Mi definitely likes to put a foot forward in serving.
Winnie L, I'm shocked that a non-Korean would say something like that when I'm Korean and I've practically grown up eating it. I'd say Shin Mi catering tastes like Korean food, especially the mussels. -

After reading the great reviews, we decided to use Shin Mi to cater our kids 1st birthday party. The menu had a lot of variety and everyone was pleased with the food. At first, I though the price was just reasonable, but after seeing how much food we received, I've decided they are a very good value. Good presentation is a bonus, too.
I speak enough Korean, but you can use English when her daughter is there.

Korean catering is the best when you want a variety of food for a reasonable price. Most Korean caterers offer similar types of food, but Shin Mi's food actually tastes better.
Caroline is fluent in English, so if you don't speak Korean, that's ok.
And her mom (who's started Shin Mi Catering over 20 years ago) is in charge of the kitchen, and she's excellent with making Korean food.
Caroline's service is great and she really tries hard to make your event beautiful and run smoothly. The servers work diligently and their demeanor is pleasant. I have worked with Shin Mi Catering in several occasions and they have always been on time and ready to go...from 100 person events to 500 person events.
They are constantly trying to improve their presentation. Currently, they have a lovely beverage station with beverage dispensers decorated nicely with fruit. They have been using nicer chaffing dishes and platters. They even have menu labels for all their variety of dishes.
Best of all, you get a whole lot of food for a great price. Shin Mi Catering can meet the needs of all your guests from carnivores to herbivores & itty bitty limited eaters. ;)

recently attended a wedding where Shin Mi catered their food. All i have to say is out of the numerous weddings i've been to so far in my life, Shin Mi has the best food. Not only was the food tasty, the presentation of the food and the preparation was clean and orderly. The food was not overly spiced or too salty. The sushi was surprisingly fresh as well. The workers worked efficiently and quickly refilled any empty plates. Def. give this place a try for any upcoming events!

KOREANS APPROVE KOREAN CATERING???
YES!!!
I hired Shin Mi for a banquet dinner for 150 korean taekwondo masters and everyone loved the food. Koreans know good korean food and Shin Mi Catering delivers! Literally!
I also rented linens from them and hired their help (2 guys) to serve. They were professional and friendly. It's funny, one of the guy was on "kalbi jjim patrol" which means he was in charge of giving everyone only 1-2 pieces of beef! HAHAHAHA! This may seem ridiculous to some but if you don't know let me tell you, people go NUTS and always hog up all the kalbi jjim leaving none for those waiting at the end of the buffet line. So it's very smart to have a server controlling the portion and making sure EVERYONE gets a piece =)
Anyways back to my review....Order from Shin Mi Catering! Delicious food, decent prices and excellent customer service! -

We recently used Shin Mi catering for our son's 1st birthday (dol). LOVED them!! Caroline was amazing. She was so gracious with us and provided so many services from food to servers to dduk to linens. I'm so thankful that we used Shin Mi Catering. I didn't have to worry about anything related to the food on the day of the event. The came on time, the food display was beautiful and they cleaned everything up. Most importantly, the food was so delicious. Shin Mi provided more than enough food and the guests were excited that there was enough left over to take home with them. If you don't know, food is probably one of the most lasting memories guests have of an event and our guests couldn't get enough! Thanks Shin Mi for helping make our event a success. Will definitely use them again if we ever need to have food catered!

If you are going to have your wedding and want something different from the traditional ho hum catered wedding meals of beef, salmon or chicken, then you really need to go sitdown and speak with Caroline at Shin Mi. The appetizers during cocktail our were phenomenal. The korean dishes were terrific at our wedding and really received a great deal of comments from our guests. Shin Mi really made us feel they were catering to us as members of their family and really can work with your budget to create an incredible experience. I wouldn't have done it any other way. My only regret was not having a larger venue to share the experience with more people. If you meet up with Caroline tell them Vicky and Jeff send their warmest regards. They have the experience and no how to deal with complex venues such as Castle Green in Pasadena! Love them.

Their food was so amazing! I was at my cousin Allie's wedding in LA. Our whole family was there because she was getting married to Jake, who happens to be Korean. Allie and Jake had opted to get Korean catering for their wedding and chose this place after hearing so many good things about it.
Though I've only had Korean food on several occasions, I must say everything that was served here was DELISH! I just fell in love with the meat, Kimchee, and japche(sp?)!!! Also, the sushi-like-rolls were soooo good. I cook at home, so I know what flavors/tastes work best together...and everything here was just FULL OF FLAVOR. Everyone at the wedding seemed to eat at least 2 plates full...even my dad over-did it (though he states he's on a 'diet'). By the end of the night, we were all so happy and just enjoying the company. This place did a great job, and decor was great too. Very professional. I'd recommend this place for anyone who wants great food at their wedding. -

Winnie L, so what you're saying is that I can get Korean, Chinese, Japanese, AND American food all in one place? I hardly think something to criticize. Where else can you get all different types of food from one place? Their food tastes amazing! I've had it on more than one occasions; from weddings to birthdays to even just simple banquets. Service is great, food tastes great, and everyone enjoyed it in one way or another.
I've been a long time customer and will recommend this to any party or event being hosted. -

We ordered from Shinmi for my daughter's 1st birthday (dol) last week. It was my first time trying them out, but I decided to give them a try based on the positive reviews I saw here on Yelp. I'm glad I did.
Most importantly, the food was delicious. We received many compliments from our guests, all who are very familiar with Korean catering. My personal favorites were the galbi jjim (tender and yum) and the sesame leaf beef mini pancakes. I also appreciate that they were flexible with substituting several of the items with my preferences. I'm not sure if this was a mistake, but they actually gave me the dishes I wanted and the ones I wanted replaced, which my guests enjoyed! At first I wasn't sure about serving food from aluminum trays but I also didn't want to replatter everything on top of all the other details involved with executing a dol party. When I called and asked about this, they told me that they would arrange everything nicely in the aluminum trays- they really did, which I found very helpful.
Caroline & her mom were really easy to work with so don't let the grandma's rude phone manners deter you from here. The price was right (we didn't negotiate it down), the food was delicious, pickup of our food was a breeze, and they presentation was nice.
Overall, we are very pleased and won't hesitate ordering from them again. -

We used Shin Mi catering for our wedding this past weekend and let me tell you SLAM DUNK 100% OUT OF THE BALL PARK HOMERUN! Caroline and her mom are AWESOME. The food was DELICIOUS! We received countless compliments on the food. It was amazing! They even threw in some extra goodies for me because they know how much I love KBBQ. You can't beat the price either! You will not regret using their services. I would highly recommend their catering, food, service and prices. I'd give them 10 stars if I could!

I used Shinmi Catering for my wedding, and they were amazing. They catered a Korean style buffet with two lines and everyone loved the food.
We worked with Caroline, who operates the store with her mother. If you don't speak Korean, don't fear because she speaks great English. She and I exchanged emails and phone calls, and was really flexible. Our wedding reception had to be split to two locations, and she was totally cool when we had to have the cake sent upstairs and the food downstairs.
Definitely recommend this place. They have a menu with a range of prices, so feel free to go in and find the one you like. Much cheaper than getting hotel food. Loved it!Listed in: Hannah's Wedding Vendors

Awwwsomeee singing you praises (Really, I'm singing)
Our company took pity on us as we trolled around El Segundo, not able to satiate our cravings for Korean food anywhere.
So for our Feed-me-Friday, they ordered.. (Dan dan dah!) Basically a Korean buffet from Shin Mi Catering.
*Do keep in mind I'm way too excited to judge rationally on the tasty-ness of food, but whatever I put in my mouth, it did not complain, so =)
- Kimchee was quite good, which is kind hard given that everyone's taste preference for Kimchee differs a bit.
- Fried rice was also (surprisingly) good! I usually don't fill up with rice, and choose to get more of the Ban-chan (side dishes), but their Fried rice is pretty good.
- Kalbi Jjim (Braised beef) was good too--some on the top were a little dry--I imagine due to having traveled some distance from LA, but otherwise was juicy and tender, just the way it should be. I would've like it more if the sauce was really deeply infused in the meat, but yeah, it was good.
- Chicken teriyaki --pretty standard stuff, but still tasty!
Basically, when put together, it really looked like the plate shown in the picture.
I think this place is better than the other 'Nak Won' catering, but again, I might be too excited just now to think straight =P

I have tried different Korean catering services, e.g., my wedding and small scale events. Hands down, Shin Mi was the best and I am a lifetime customer~

Let me give you a SAT analogy to describe the "Korean-themed Dinner" tonight we had at work. Panda Express: Chinese food :: Tonight's selection from Shin Mi: Korean food.
Everyone who has eaten in K-town knows that 1) Korean food is "kimchi flavored" and addictively spicy as hell 2) kbbq is god. To our disappointment, we got none of #1 or 2 and were served the Los Gringos' Asian Buffet.
This is what we got: Beef shanks, batter-fried shrimp (tastes like Costco's), mayonnaise mussel bake, black grapes with seeds - kinda mushy, green grapes, fried chicken, shrimp-veggie-fishcake skewer (isn't that japanese?), mandoo (it's really a chinese potsticker), california roll sushi (japanese), fried rice (it was deceptively spicy - via white pepper?), bean sprout salad, egg roll (that's chinese), glass-noodle salad, and of course, kimchi and kimchi cucumber.
Overall, the dinner was good for a variety of palates. not good if you want real korean food!!! (i'll blame our food coordinator)

First off, Winnie L down there has no idea what Korean food really is. Her idea of "korean food" is what she so endearingly refers to as the "gringos" think of when they think korean food.
The food here is amazing, from the galbi jjim to the green mussels, jap cheh, chicken wings, kimchi, and everything in between. Yeah, i know some of the food isn't really traditionally korean, but who cares? It's still really good, and most of it is.
Aside from the food, what earns the five stars is the service. Caroline (who runs the place with her mom) is a wonderful woman, who is very accommodating and friendly. The service was top notch and enhanced the experience (i was at a wedding).
Shin mi is definitely the best catering place in town, and you should not have no reason to not try them! -

Shin Mi catered my wedding and the food was amazing: authentic and home-made. All the guests were raving, posting pictures of it on facebook, and taking left-overs home. Could you ask for more? The service was courteous. They set up and broke down everything quickly. I'd highly recommend for your next event!

I don't know if I'd call this place the Panda Express of Korean food but they definitely make it more accessible for everybody. That is what we liked about Shin Mi. We had them cater my wedding and the food was a hit. How do we know? Barely any leftovers. Our Korean family all thought the food was very good, especially for weddings. It's hard to cater a 150 person wedding and have authentic Korean food. The kim chi was very good and perfectly stinky and spicy. We dumbed down the menu a little bit to cater (no pun intended) to our non-Korean friends. Caroline, the owner, said she had never in her life seen American people eat that much Korean food. Some of my friends had 3 plates of food and all of them were eating the dduk. At the end of the night there was no dduk. The cake was also a big hit. It was so much cheaper than what we were quoted for other cakes. It was simple, elegant, beautifully presented and most importantly delicious. It was the best

Shin Mi Catering is hands down the best catered Korean food! Their Kalbi Chim is so amazing, and all the food was done beautifully. I catered their food for my bridal shower, and everyone enjoyed it. Everyone from my American friends to my father in law thought it was very tasty. Real Korean food is not just about BBQ and spicy, but also flavorful and beautiful! Truly authentic. Thank You!
