I don't see why people would not like it here and the whole argument posted below is completely effed up. But I came here for my brother's birthday and it brought back soooo many memories of dining out at Chinese restaurants with the family. There was 6 of us and two kids, the bill totaled to $240 including tip so about $40 per person excluding the kids. It's so worth it, I mean, I am not talking about an itsy bitsy meal, I am talking about a unzip your pants, fall asleep at the table meal!! And we're part Filipino man, we will eat the whole place down!
We ordered, peking duck, the lettuce wrap, fried rice, whole roasted chicken, chow mein, 3 mushroom dish, crab with creme sauce, and probably like 2 or 3 other dishes that I just can't seem to remember at this point (it was about a month ago).
My oh my oh my. Anyone who grew up in Richmond remember "Yung Kee?" lol. My family used to go there for our fam reunions (I'm talking like 40 of us) and I've never had that good ever since they closed down. I got to say, I got my Chinese Restaurant groove back by going to this place. I'm not even exaggerating. I missed this type of food.
We took home lots of food too. It was soooo good and we got really good service too! I can't complain, I'm a fan... I can't wait to go back *Homer Simpson stuffing his face sound* -

Shi-Art Chinese Cuisine is located inside Richmond Centre; directly across from Tim Hortons and facing No. 3 Road. It is a small restaurant with a big appetite.
Inside you will find a big chandelier, a fancy red art display and an elaborate window display. Posing to be pretentious with not a lot to offer.
Expect to drop a few coins when your come to Shi-Art. On average each dim sum item is $6. It's a lil hard to comprehend when the food is mediocre yet more expensive then Jade ( click ), Kirin, or other more prestigious Chinese restaurants.
Cuisine: Chinese
Price/Entrée: $5-10 (dim sum)
Out of 5... (1: Don't bother -- 5: Excellent)
Food: 2.5
Service: 1.5
Ambiance: 3.0
Overall: 1.5
Sorry, not reviewing each dish as they were all nothing special. The basic Shrimp Dumpling was thick skinned and lacked seasoning. Egg tarts were cold and the crust was soggy.
I'm not sure whether the staff were over-worked or it was Shi-Art protocol; the servers all looked pissed and had no smile (except for maybe one).
In the end, when our bill came and we paid our dues plus a generous tip; the senior waiter came and counted our money in front of us (at our table)! And questioned whether there was enough money! You have got to be kidding me!
Perhaps offending your customers was a form of flattery back home, but here in Canada it is considered RUDE! Don't think I'm racist, because I am Chinese. I'm allow to criticize my own race.
Seeing it was Dave's mom's birthday we did not want to make a scene. But I desperately wanted to take our tip back, pay only the billed amount and leave...
Gratuity is a sum of money given as a way of rewarding them for their services. I pay good money to enjoy my meals and not be treated like beggars.
Never will we return and neither should you... -

This restaurant has the largest har gow and shumai i've ever seen and best of all it has 20% off dimsum before 11am on weekdays. The food is delicious and they offer large portions. My favorite was this green dimsum with the scallop and shrimp, very unique and tasty.
The restaurant isn't huge so I expect the wait would be long if you went in the afternoon. I came in on a weekend morning at 9:30 and got a table right away, although I think you can call in and make reservations. They don't wheel carts but hand the food to you. The waitresses are friendly enough. Overall, the bill came out to be $76 for fifteen dishes. We ordered more to eat later because it was so good. I would say this place was as good as FIsherman Terrace's. -

Extremely Poor Customer Service!!
Submitted Wednesday, September 21, 2011 - 2:27pm [Dine in]
Went to Shi-Art Chinese Cuisine Restaurant on Tuesday September 20, 2011 around 1230pm in the afternoon with my dad, and my sister. We ordered approximately 7 dishes of food, and was not able to finish it. I kindly asked the manager to pack my leftover food for me to take away, and he was very rude. He asked me "You wanted to pack them to go? Are you sure? You want to pack them?" I said "yes, because there are still a lot of food left, and I sure think we shouldn't be wasting food." He then replied me "You are so annoying, fine, I will bring you boxes, and you can deal with the packing on your own!"
When he arrived with a few boxes, he literally just threw it on my face, and he kept going on and on saying "how annoying it is that I'm packing everything to go!", and I told him," its fine that you don't want to pack my food away, but please step away from my table, and leave me alone." He then started speaking very loudly and said "You woman shouldn't be talking to a man like this, its so rude that woman talk loudly publicly, and no man would wants to marry a woman like you!!." I again told him "Just step away!!!, and leave me alone!!", and now he said "I like to stand here, why can't I stand here? I like to talk, why can't I talk?" at this point my dad got really upset, and almost got into a fight with him in the restaurant. Then he was loudly asking my dad, "are you trying to threaten me? O my!!"
The experience with this restaurant was extremely poor! I will never ever ever ever go back again, and would NOT RECOMMEND this restaurant to anyone!!! The customer service is totally unacceptable -

It's crazy that I'm the first one to review this place, as this is one of the best dim sum places that I've been to (and I know my dim sum). Yes, it's a Chinese restaurant inside a mall, so that would usually be a sign for me to avoid this place like the plague (although can you really avoid a plague?)...but this is really good dim sum. I've been told that it used to be better and the prices have gone up, but I was still rather impressed. The wait was a bit ridiculous, but that just gave me time to shop in Richmond Centre.
The cheung fun with soy sauce was amazing, although the beef one was good too. The beef balls were very tasty, along with the oversized har gows. The only disappointments (and they weren't that bad) were the average BBQ pork bun and the slightly above average egg custard tarts. -

The food was great, and the portions were proportionate to the price. (A chow fun dish for $14.95 was huge.) The service was sub-standard.
I'm from New York and moved to Vancouver. I have been looking for Roast Pork chow fun for a long time. Chow fun is a wide rice noodle, stir-fried with soy sauce. This place actually had Cantonese Chow Fun on the menu. Now I know it's a Cantonese dish. They didn't have the roast pork to go along with it, though they did have pork (just not roasted.) Another option was chicken, beef or seafood.
I thought the chow fun could have used a bit more soy sauce, so I added some, after I was finally able to get a waiter to come over. (They just leave you on your own.)
When we arrived, we were starving, and they took a while to come over to us. We were so hungry that we figured we could satiate our appetite with a quick soup. But that took a long time and arrived with the appetizer, fried squid (calamari). Yummy! That was amazing! The hot and sour soup wasn't so great. And it didn't have any pork, which I'm accustomed to in hot and sour soup. There were a few pieces of scallops, I think.
The last beef dish on the menu was excellent. The flavours were amazing!!! -

Saw that they had an interesting menu for 2011 Signature Dish and made a booking to go with friends. When we showed up, they said that they could not do the menu for Signature Dish Dining Festival unless it was pre-booked when we made reservation. There was obviously no mention of this condition the website and all other restaurants serve the menu without such condition. They acknowledged that the website did not mention, but they said they would not do it in any case. If they did not want to participate like other restaurants, they should just stay out of it rather than leaving a bad taste in people's mouths. We asked why advanced pre-booking for the menu would be required as there was no special dish, like braised soup or anything that needed special advanced prep - his answer was that we didn't understand - cooking required more prep than we thought. My friends wanted to leave because they had dinner there before and didn't think the food was too good, but I convinced them to stay and not to move around. We ordered some random dishes from the menu, and they were okay - I could not say good. After that, service was okay. However, the poor experience of unpublished condition was very disappointing. All of us thought it was poor of them to impose such condition upon our arrival, and with the mediocre food, we would not be back again. If we had the menu we intended to have, I bet we would feel way better.
If you still want to go to this place for 2011 Signature Dish Dining Festival menu, make sure you mention when you make reservation. However, in my opinion, you are better off going to other places where they dont have hidden restriction and where they have better food. I went to Jade for the Signature Dish Dining Festival menu earlier and we had good food and good service, so I would recommend them instead. I also went to Viva City quite a few times and found their food generally better than Shi-Art.
Thanks for confirming tonight that I don't have to go to Shi-Art in the future again. -

Hey I'm a man that loves sinking my chops into new and delicious flavors and Shi Art Chinese Cuisine did not disappoint...no sir! So a couple of weeks ago I took a client out to lunch and wanting to stay away from regular burger joints, I decided it was only right to let my client pick where we dined. Am I glad I did.
We arrived at the restaurant just before noon and at first I was a little apprehensive because it was in a mall. I guess sensing my doubt, my client was quick to assure me that this was a great pick. My resolutions quickly disappeared when I saw that the place was packed, save one table that we quickly snapped up. Being the only black guy in there I could feel the curious stares of the older Asian diners and since my cantonese and mandarin is, well, non-existent, i quietly sat back and let my client do the ordering. And order he did. Of course I had no idea what food item graced each plate, but I was game to try each odd looking bit of deliciousness. Each dish was tastier than the one before it. For my own peace of my mind, I decided to satisfy my hunger before satisfying my curiosity. That was until the final dish which was something in soup. With slight trepidation I took my spoon and nervously turned the broth. To my horror, what appeared to be a jelly like blob found it's way onto my spoon. I almost yelped. My shock must have been pretty obvious because almost immediately, the one question dominating my mind was answered before the words escaped my mouth. "Oh, that's shark fin soup," my client explained. "Very delicious and good for man." Of course. What was I thinking. I should have known. Shark fin. My curiosity got the better of me and after a few quick breaths i popped a chunk of the gelatinous blob into my mouth....and chewed. Huh...no flavor. Try again for piece number 2. Still no flavor. I soon discovered that the taste appeared when you scooped up broth with your fin. Aaaaaaaah....bingo and fantastic!
So if you are adventurous when it comes to food from foreign lands, make your way over to Shi Art Chinese Cuisine in Richmond. Get there early and order the shark fin. -

Dim sum was awesome there!! I especially love their chicken feet cause they don't chop it up and add a lot of oil in there!! They serve with the entire piece!! Yumm
