Review from Diana T.
I have never had to write a two-star review before. I usually can't give enough praise for a place... So I'm going to start with the good and end with the bad.
I am a huge fan of Starwood properties and was excited to stay at the Sheraton when I took my boyfriend on a trip to Niagra Falls. I researched both Sheratons and found that this one was newer and had better views of the Falls. Of course, the views were spectacular. I will post my view in a little bit. The price I paid ($169 for a king fallsview room) was fair for the view and the Sheraton name. The bed, as always, was more than adequate. The sheets were clean, the bathroom was clean, and there was a surprise -- a fireplace in the room! As far as locations go, you can't get better than the On the Falls Sheraton.
So now the bad. First, I was disappointed to find out that the jacuzzi tub didn't overlook the room like it did in the pictures on http://sheraton.com, but this was not a big deal to me. What was a big deal was when we decided to take advantage of a $40 dining voucher (available only for dinner) and stopped at the Casino Niagra (adjacent property -- really great feature) before we went to dinner. So we got caught up in the gaming and we strolled into the restaurant at about 8:45pm. The view was amazing, but when the hostess came by, she let us know that the kitchen was closed and the restaurant closed at 9pm. I could not have imagined that a restaurant that serves 2 hotels and is casino adjacent would close at 9pm. To make matters worse, they wouldn't honor our voucher for any meal other than dinner, so breakfast or lunch was out of the question. They opened for dinner at 5pm, when we were half way back to Detroit.
We thought we might stay a little later so I called to arrange for a late checkout and guest services told me that they were full, because of the conference that was happening. Then I went down to the front desk to see if they could help me out with the dining voucher and the lady called the restaurant which proceeded to blame me for showing up at 9:05, after they'd closed! I was appalled!
I am a Starwood Preferred Guest and had never been treated more poorly by the staff at a Starwood hotel. Their room was immaculate, and location was to die for, but the service was poor. Everything was very matter-of-fact and no one tried to sympathize with my unique situation.
On top of all that, when I asked how many Starpoints I would earn on my stay, they told me zero. There is a very low likelihood that I would stay at this property again without redeeming Starpoints or booking a special rate that included a voucher for dinner.
