This restaurant has a rightful place among strip mall places that serve authentic delicious regional (Shanghai) Chinese cuisine. On this evening, the restaurant seemed to be operated solely by mother, father and daughter (whose english bears an uncanny resemblance to a Londoner's, but she says she learned in China). By the time we left, the restaurant was full of folks eagerly tucking in.(6:30 on a tues eve)
The shalom bao (sp) were juicy, we had the deep fried and they were up to snuff.
Then we had barbecued smoked 1/2 duck  and a pork dish with twisted tofu skins. (about $13.95 each) These dishes are pure indulgence as the meat comes with lots of fat in both cases, and the duck is a little salty from the smoking, but both were deeeeeeeeeelicious! So we snacked a little and took the rest home to savor later. If going for this, best to take friends to keep the intake down, as it's irresistable.
There's lots more to try here so we'll be back.

One of the things about (stereotypical) Asians is that they often only go where their friends or family go.  As a result, you'll see restaurants with lineups out the door directly next to other restaurants that are completely empty on a Saturday night.  It's a real shame.  As a result, this place doesn't get too much loving.  The "restaurant next door" in this case would be Claypot, which sure doesn't have problems filling up, even on a Tuesday.

Parking isn't too bad during the week, but be prepared to camp outside or park illegally on the weekends.

The staff were friendly, though it was obvious they were from Hong Kong instead of Shanghai.

Having no idea what to order, I asked the waitress for recommendations.  She asked if I wanted spicy (I said yes), then suggested Sichuan-style beef noodle.  I'm not sure how this is supposed to be served in Szechuan, but this dish was definitely lighter than other Sichuan places I've eaten at.  There were some chili peppers, but the bowl wasn't covered in a layer of chili oil.  Not at all.  In fact, there was no chili oil, period.  This isn't a bad thing, as it lets you taste the rest of the ingredients (such as the beef) noodles, and of course, the MSG in the soup.

My buddy Vincent N. had a fish with (the same type of) noodles.  The fish was decently done (cooked well, somewhat dry, slightly sweet) but we both agreed we've had better elsewhere.

Of course a trip to a Shanghainese restaurant is never complete without a sampling of xiao long bao.  This one was a bit of a doozy.  We almost couldn't find it in the menu.  It's not up at the front like 90% of the places.  Instead it's buried as Item #55, which is partially down the 3rd page of the menu.  We both went through the menu literally 5-10 times before we found the item.  And it took us 5 minutes.  We thought we were going blind.  As for the XLB themselves, while they weren't the absolute best I've ever had, these ones had a ridiculous amount of soup inside.  You can literally fill your Chinese soup spoon to the brim with the soup from just 1 of these things.  Both of us got the same results so it wasn't a fluke.

One last thing that really stuck out here - there are VERY few rice dishes in the menu (I think there were 2 in total?) or noodles (without soup).

Our final bill came to just $21 after tax.  Really can't complain.  We left happy.
