This place has the best donuts, hands down.

When I was a kid, I lived down the block and loved this place. When I grew up and moved to Staten Island, sure, I gave other places a chance but they didn't compare.

For years, I kept coming here for the super-cheap baker's dozen.

Now that I'm older and a little more carb-conscious, I don't come here often, but when I DO have a donut, it's from Shaikh's Place. Dunkin and Krispy just don't compare.

    The absolute best donuts ever!

So back in the day when I lived in Midwood I used to come here all the time. I found myself a block from this place not that long ago with my mom and grandma and we had to check to see if this place was still here.

Thank goodness it was and thank goodness the donuts were still just as good as we remembered. This is a tiny little place, nothing special to it at all. In all honesty, it has a bit of a dirty look to it. Not a place I would go to if I didn't know any better. This joint  proves that you should never judge a place without actually checking it out.

It's super cheap and the staff is really nice. I can't say anything about the actual food here but the donuts are definitely some of the best donuts I have ever had. I enjoyed them more than Doughnut Plant (blasphemy, I know!). The chocolate glazed donut is by far the best. I'm not even the biggest chocolate lover and I cannot get enough of them.

The donuts are just "okay" to me.  I mainly go to this place to get a bacon and egg on a roll.  The prices are reasonable and the staff is friendly.

The decor could use an update though.

Saw the great Yelp reviews and had to stop in. As Doughnut Plant devotees, for us, it's pretty much not worth eating donuts unless they're really, really good donuts, but how would you know until you try them? That's why I love Yelp!  So thank you, Yelpers, for leading me to Shaikh's Place. The sign outside reads 'Donut Shoppe' with no reference to Shaikh. Be careful and go to the right address - there are a lot of other donut shops within a two-block radius on the same stretch of Avenue U.

We got four donuts for $2.50, and there were a ton of people inside so I was pretty sure the donuts would be super fresh to keep up with demand like that. And they were! The chocolate cake donut was pretty standard, but I loved the balance between sweet and cocoa flavors. Lots of times a chocolate donut is just not worth eating because it's so sickly sweet, but this one was great.

We also tried the Boston Cream, which I normally don't like. But damn, the basic yeast donut it is built from is just amazing. Good chocolate icing and again, the cream filling was not overly sweet. Great job!

The apple crumble donut was also a winner, but my favorite was the vanilla-frosted donut with some kind of fruit jelly dolloped on top. The donut itself was among the best yeast donuts I've tasted, and the icing and fruit just made for a killer combo.

If you want cheap, fresh, excellent mom and pop donuts, this is the place!

Early in the morning, rising for my work, grab a 70-cent donut and I strap jetpacks on my back.

The sign reads Donut Shoppe and pairs well with the friendly, old school feel to the joint. The staff on my visit consisted of a no-nonsense woman who meant business, and the selection on the shelves was impressive. I went against my urge for a regular/glazed and/or apple (or a half-dozen, for that matter) to instead opt for a raspberry-filled/vanilla-frosted donut, a dangerously delicious treat for the change I figured would languish in my pocket for eternity. All in all, a moist and real-tasting sweet finished by a delicious raspberry topping.
Sure, it's not quite as convenient or foot-traffic heavy as DP (and even farther removed than Dough), but this price cannot be beat.
If I lived or regularly commuted nearby, the fact that it sits almost directly under the U would be financially and gastronomically perilous.

Wtf is with these deep south Brooklyn folks?  Ever have a donut at donut plant?  The donuts here have little on dunkin donuts. & the general rule against eating at a nyc diner with "donut" on the sign outside applies. It's just an old school nyc greasy spoon. I feel scammed by the locals who think this place is actually up to snuff.

Eating these donuts is like making out with God.

Is that sacrilegious? Screw it, these ludicrously cheap donuts are blasphemously good.

Really great affordable food here. It's like 5 dollars for a burger and fries. Or 2 for $4 tacos. The tacos are really tasty! And this place is open 24/7

Had their donuts for the first time today, and it was 11 dollars for two dozen donuts! The donuts were really good (I bought them for my coworkers and that's the general consensus)

Problem is that its small and only good if you're eating by yourself or with only one other person.

When donuts can be delicious even on a humid summer day, you know they're something special.

Priced right and super delicious. What more do you need?

I grew up in the neighborhood, and these are the best and freshest tasting donuts anywhere!  When I visit the neighborhood (especially if I'm taking the Q train), I always stop and get my favorite chocolate icing yeast donuts.  They never disappoint.

My family and I have been coming in here ever since I can remember. They are much more of a diner, but we come here for their donuts. They have the best old fashioned donuts in Brooklyn. They're made fresh daily. They're not like Dunkin Donuts where their donuts don't go bad after a couple of days - probably due to all the preservatives they put into them. You gotta consume the donuts that you get from here either the same day or the next day the latest for the maximum flavor. I recently brought some friends here and they really loved the donuts as well. I love supporting these mom and pop places because you can definitely tell the love that went into these donuts.

A local favorite. Not the cleanest place , but for Ave u it's up to par. The Latin American workers make the place what it is. Not crazy about the owner, buy they do the right thing.
