This place is less than a mile away from my house however it is in a small strip mall that I pass at least twice a week. If not for Yelp I would have never ventured inside. Based on the profile there was no take out no website no nuttin'...so my spouse changed out of her sweats and off went.
The place is small and quaint, nice and clean (did not check the toilets). The place appeared to be family run and very friendly. There are no more than 7 tables.
Regardless of the wardrobe change we decided to take the food home and eat.
The order was vegetable curry, chicken curry and lamb curry. Rice, Nan bread and 4 (2 baked vegetable, 2 fried spinach and tofu) samosas. The total with tax was $26.00.
The food was very good and we almost ate all of it, quite a feat. Special shout out to the spinach and tofu samosa. The curries were tasty and not to be spicy but just enough, I am sure we could have ordered a hotter one. The Nan was not what I am accustomed to, more like the variety we purchase at the grocery ...still good but not Indian restaurant quality.
Already we plan to return soon and will not order as much, but order different as the menu is quite extensive.

I used to eat here every day for 2 years when I was working in Ottawa. Really small place, smaller menu, but great Indian food which was always fresh and hot.
If you are in Ottawa, skip all the fancy Indian restaurants and drive down to this place, you'll love it! -

This is definitely my favorite curry place while I was working in Ottawa. Super fresh daily made curry. Went there for a couple years. The only regret is that their hour is very short. But the food is so wonderfully delicious! Even years after we left Ottawa, from time to time my wife and I still talk about it.

I love Indian food. LOVE it! And, my wife and I are always on the lookout for a new Indian place to try out. Well, one day, while shopping along Merivale, we ran across Shaan Curry House. It is a tiny place in a small strip plaza, but what a find! First - the owner is an Indian guy in a turban, not some Canadian highschool kid. Good sign. Second, the menu offers a wide variety of well-priced Indian delights. They have samosas (but no cheese samosas - where can you find them in Ottawa???), vegetarian curries, chawals, fish or meat entrees, kebabs, etc. You can even get combo deals to put your favourites on one plate. For Indian food (which can get spendy at other places) the prices are really reasonable - nothing over $10. That is unbelievable! And, if price is a factor for you, they do have daily specials. If you like Indian, you have to try Shaan.

This place is fantastic. Excellent curry in a hurry. A warm hearted Sikh man runs the place, and the food is always good. Tonight I picked up chicken curry takeout and good thing I called ahead, because by the time I got there he was out of curry, and out of rice. it's just that kind of place.
