I eat out a lot! Seven Hills has become one of my favorite places. The ambiance is very cute and cozy. A great place to have a romantic dinner, or dinner with some great friends. I've been here for both, and I the service is great. I had my husbands bday dinner here, and they were beyond amazing. When the owner Alex called to confirm my reservation, I told him I could wait to have our friends try the grilled calamari (since I've been dreaming of it). He told me unfortunately since its out of season they took it out of the menu. However since I loved it so much, he'll talk to the chef and see what he can do. Guess what? He got it in just for us! Now that's great service!

As far as the rest of the menu, the real standout here is their handmade pastas! I've tried most of the pastas on the menu, I can say, I love them all. Although the Grandpa's spahegtti and the ravioli is my fave. It's great how they allow you to do half orders, that way you could try a few with feeling like a pig.

Everything on the menu is super fresh and they try to keep with what's in season. That's why I drive all the way from San Jose to have dinner. Try it you'll see!

I came here with some family friends this week, and I am so surprised to not have heard about this little gem. It's tucked away in Nob Hill, and I'm so glad we came here.

I tried a few of the appetizers: the burrata and the salmon bruschetta.  Both were amazing.  The burratta was served in a bowl with oil, tomato water and balsamic drizzled over it.  There were tomatoes, green onion and arugula in it.  Plus sea salt on top.  They serve it with a side of croistinis.  Literally, how can it get better than that?  The salmon bruschetta was served with a poached egg - how very French.  If you like this sort of thing, then it will be your jam.

The main course I ordered was the chicken cannelloni. I only ordered the appetizer size because 4 cannelloni just seemed like too much food.  It was a perfect proportion, and it was served with a tomato sauce and Parmesan cream with mozzarella.  It was very good.

For beverages, my mom brought a few bottles from her personal cellar, so unfortunately, I wasn't able to try any..... not sure if there is a corkage fee, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was.

My one complaint would have been regarding the service.... I know that we were a large party, but they were slow at topping up the wine.  I feel like that's always a very easy way to rate service.  Had they been better at this, I probably would have given them 5 stars, but this knocked it down one.

Overall, we had a fantastic time, and I'd definitely be back here again.  It's cozy and romantic, and would be a great date spot.

We were brought here by a foodie friend who had dined here before. We got a great table right at the window and were chatted up by Alex. He is a wonderful host and made the visit very warm and welcoming.

We like to eat so we ordered nearly everything on the pasta menu. We ordered the half sizes so we could all share and be totally stuffed.

*Ravioli Uovo - Was our appetizer - this is delicate and full of flavor. The combination of all the ingredients bursts with flavor. Amazing.
*Agnolotti with Red Beets - This was a favorite of mine. Very delicate and amazing fresh beet flavor (I like beets so this was great for me). The fontina cheese sauce set it off wonderfully.
*Tortelli with Euvitis Wild Mushroom - Delicately prepared, simple and wonderful mushroom flavor.
*Chicken Cannelloni - My favorite. Loaded with chicken, super light, creamy and heaven.
*Red Potato Gnocchi - Fresh, light and surrounded by wonderful homemade tomato sauce laden with cheese. Delightful!
*Classic Fettuccini Carbonara - Wanted to love this, but was just okay for me. Very well done, but I wanted more cheese flavor. Pasta itself was excellent.
*Spaghetti with Grandpa George's Sausage - Tied for favorite. I don't really like sausage but there's is housemade and outstanding. Perfect blend of flavors.

For dessert, I got the ice cream daily special (rocky road). It had crumbled cookies, vanilla and caramel sauce and was a perfect treat. We also sampled the chocolate panna cotta (airy and chocolately goodness) and the piece de resistance was the Italian donuts filled with sweet ricotta cheese. OMG - simply divine. They are sprinked with sugar and are light and fluffly goodness.

I am going to be a frequent and repeat customer.

Looking for a yummy pre-Masonic Hall dinner & Seven Hills had been on the list.....

Started out w/ the Seared Mascarpone Polenta - this appie was super-teeny & was just like a silver dollar sized disc of polenta on some microgreens.  We could have ordered 2 of these & still only had 2 bites.

Entrees included Gnocchi in a creamy tomato sauce - this sauce was pretty bland & gnocchi tends to be bland to begin with so it needs a spicier sauce to really make it shine.  Too bad that wasn't the case here.  The gnocchis themselves were pretty unremarkable - smaller than the usual pillowy puffs but not chewy or tender - just average

Wild Mushroom Tortelli was also bland - boo!  Brown butter, thyme and grated pecorino cheese....these were like mushroom raviolis but the butter hadn't been browned enough so there was no nutty taste.  The mushroom filling in the tortelli needed salt, garlic or anything really, to make the mushrooms stand out

None of their desserts floated our boat as they either had citrus (not a fan of citrus in my food) or were made w/ gelatin which is a veggie no-no

Overall have to say, portions are pretty small & flavors were bland.  Maybe we were there on an off night & would definitely be willing to give them another shot - afterall, I'm a sucker for homemade pasta!

I booked a table of 13 for a reunion dinner here.  They really don't do large parties very often here but made somewhat of an exception for us I think.  We were treated like royalty!  The food did not disappoint and there were a lot of happy diners.   (I will be thinking about the Ravioli Uova for weeks to come -- not even kidding.)  But the most wonderful thing was the service.  We were warmly received by Alex and taken care of by his excellent staff at every turn.  So if you have great food and great service -- what more can you ask for?  If you like good pasta -- you have found your spot...

We went to Seven Hills last night for the first time with high expectations given all the great reviews.  Sadly, we were disappointed.  We were expecting very, very good Italian food - what we ate was over-contrived,  nouvelle Italian/California food that was just ok tasting.  I particularly was not a fan of the mushroom polenta appetizer - the crusty cheese on the polenta overpowered the wild mushrooms.  I also didn't care for the ravioli entree for which they are famous - the almost raw egg that squirted out was not appetizing.

I recognize that I am flying in contrast to all the other reviews, but I felt that it is important to say that this restaurant may not please everyone, regardless of it's 4   1/2 stars.  So try it before you plan a dinner party here, which we did, so we won't...

Our dinner could not have been better!   All 4 of us were very impressed by the food here, each dish was perfect, we are still talking about it days later.  I most highly recommend this restaurant and have been telling all my friends and coworkers to check it out.  Fabulous food, great ambiance, great value. We can't wait to go back!

Like a previous reviewer, we also tried to book on open table but could not get a table for the time we had hoped. We followed up with a call to the restaurant and they had a spot available for a time we preferred.

It's rare that when you go to a restaurant, literally everything you order is delicious... but Seven Hills is one of those places!

Here's what my boyfriend and I ordered on my birthday dinner date last night:
    First plates:
Salmon bruschetta: holy holy holy crap... SO amazing, I can't even describe it!
    Pork riblets: tender and yummy!
    Main courses:
Boyfriend had the fried chicken breast (new to the menu): loved it, it was tender, juicy comfort food
I had the steak: I highly recommend this!! It's a tenderloin steak that comes with asparagus- YUM!! Super tender and tasty- get it medium rare!
    Dessert:
They had a special desert that night not on the menu- italian donuts! They were small, round donut-like bread stuffed with sweet ricotta cheese (almost like cheesecake) and sprinkled with sugar... I don't think I even need to say it, but they were beyond delicious!!

The service was impeccable. You could tell that the waiter and host were really passionate about their food. Overall it was an awesome experience! The prices weren't that outrageous either- we had all that food plus two drinks and two beers for about $120.

    I highly recommend this restaurant!!

Fabulous! A friend and I ate here last night. My fourth visit and her first and I have never experienced anything less than stellar on all four occasions. We had the crispy chicken skin (how could you go wrong?), the chicken liver, the ravioli (with the egg) - their signature dish - and the steak with the hen of the woods mushroom. Everything was extraordinary including the service, thank you William! I usually select my own wine, but things were going along so well, I went with Williams recommendation and again - a home run. And something else, the wine list is great and very reasonably priced, as is the menu. I woke up today, replaying the joys of dinner last night over and over. In a city of great restaurants, that in itself has to be a sign of an outstanding one!

Agree with everything that's being written here about Seven Hills and the owner/host Alex and their service. Delicious appetizers - the arrancini was out of the world. The Ravioli was amazing and so was the fish entree (butter fish last night).
My only gripe was desert - we tried the sweet rice and it was sub par. The rice wasnt cooked completely and lacked any specific taste. I'm expecting something like a Thai mango sticky rice kind of desert, but this turned out to be 3/4 cooked rice with cream and chopped grapes/almonds.
that being said, we will definitely go back.

Fabulous food at very reasonable prices! I had the Seared Mascarpone Polenta as a first plate. It had a delicate texture and delicious mushroom sauce.  Next I had the Agnolotti with Red Beets. It was so fresh - it tasted like the beets must have come out of the garden that day.  Last I had the Tcho Chocolate Panna Cotta with hazelnuts and salted caramel for dessert  - my favorite of the night!

Our waiter, Reggie, was friendly and attention, and the owner, Alex, stopped by to ask how we enjoyed the meal. It was a great experience and I'll definitely be back. Parking isn't easy - might be better to take a cab. But don't let that discourage you. Seven Hills is more than worth the effort it takes to get there!

I never noticed this little place across the street from Hyde Street Grill until my friend mentioned wanting to com here. The experience was lovely, the food was solid, the service friendly, and the prices reasonable.

Our little group of four arrived on a Tuesday night and was seated promptly. After perusing the menu, we decided that we were going to order half the appetizers and pastas. However, there being only four of us, we decided that wasn't the most practical idea and asked the very helpful waiter to help us pare down our choices. We ended up choosing four appetizers and four half portions of pastas.

Chicken Liver - the best appetizer we had. To quote my husband "if they had made liver like this while I was growing up, I would've actually really liked liver"

Burrata Salad - good, but how can you go wrong with burrata?

Bone Marrow - Solid, but your typical bone marrow - nothing special

Grilled Polenta w Mushroom - the mushroom was grilled to perfection, but the polenta was bland. My least favorite dish

Ravioli Uova (two orders) - one giant ravioli, filled with spinach ricotta and a single egg yolk (cooked to runny) on the inside. bathed in a rich truffled brown butter sauce with a sprinking of parmesan. delish!

Spaghetti with Grandpa George's sausage (two orders) - the pasta isn't really spaghetti as we probably all know it. it's more like a silky home-made egg pasta version that is similar in shape/size to pad thai rice noodles. simple tomato sauce with a tasty well-spiced sausage.

I really enjoyed the coziness of the place. We were sitting close enough to the table next to us to have a short chat comparing our dishes. However, the small dining room was getting busier and noisier as we were leaving, closer to 9pm.

Great little Italian restaurant!  My entire experience was delightful.  First, I was unable to make an open table reservation, so I called and Alex (owner) managed to squeeze my party in.  There was a tiny wait for the table but we were entertained by Alex until the table was available.  He was super generous with the wine sample and was very knowledgeable about the wine he was providing us.

    Dinner:
Gnocchi - MY FAVORITE!  THIS is a MUST!  Heard its their most popular dish and now I see why!  Love sauce so much that I took my bread to soak up the rest.

Ravioli Uovo - its just one really big ravioli.  It's good.  LOVE the truffle flavors.  It's a good starter for me.

Euvitis WIld Mushroom Tortelli - Great mushroom and truffle flavor!

    Dessert:
Mint Ice Cream - huge scoop of mint chocolate ice cream with chocolate syrup and nuts. So simple and so good!

The service was absolutely wonderful.  The staff was happy and super attentive.  The restaurant was very cozy and intimate.

I highly recommend dinning at this place.  I would definitely dine here again :)

I had this restaurant on go-to list for quite some time but had trouble making reservations through OpenTable.  Even the Wednesday night I came here was booked through and through...but now I know why.  It's that good.

    We had:

Smoked Salmon bruschetta (B: only b/c my date's poached egg was a little overcooked...mine was great!)
Kampachi carpaccio (B: good...but didn't wow me like the next two dishes)
Spaghetti w/ sausage (A: so legit.  Rivals Delfina's spaghetti...but with homemade sausage!  Winner.)
Sirloin steak  (A: Perfectly cooked, perfectly sauced, a nice surprise)

The service was fantastic.  When I first arrived, the host was off seating another table and the chef just so happened to be walking by; instead of running back to his station and leaving me to wait for the host, he greeted me and seated me himself.  My date was a little late and the server took it in stride; didn't get pissy when he was triple-sat and really took his time to explain the menu and offer up his recommendations.

Seven Hills:  thank you for opening your doors in my neighborhood!  You are appreciated.

Everything is delicious! I am not exaggerating.

From the moment I made a reservation here I had a feeling that Seven Hills was not just in the restaurant business but in the dining experience business. Alex had confirmed my 9:00pm reservation the day of and remembered that I originally asked for a slightly earlier time when booking. So he asked me that if anyone prior to our party cancelled if we would want to come in earlier. And when I inquired about having a drink at the bar while we wait for our table, he offered the info that their 4-seater bar would most likely be full by then and perhaps we would enjoy the wine bar across the street where he sends people in queue. Ok, so you get the idea, they were already off to a good start with phone hospitality.

So now to the dining experience...
The 4 of us showed up for our reservation at 9:00 and were promptly seated. Even before we walked in one of my delightful dining cohorts was literally bouncing up and down while reading the menu on the wall outside. Excitement was building...
I will preface this with the fact that as I think back to last night I count 16 different tastings/dishes that were consumed by our table of 4.*
Fried chicken skin chips arrived at our table immediately and were guiltlessly consumed on the spot. Followed by a frittata tasting that was another hit. Ok, so we ordered wine and began to oooh and at the menu when all the sudden appetizers began to appear before our eyes. We each figured the other had secretly ordered them... First, the beet salad, then the bean salad, then the buratta..."wait wait, are you sure you didn't order this?"  we said to one another.  We all laughed and had blank faces and assumed we were still in tasting mode, or just the unknowing participants of ESP. Turns out we were given the neighboring tables appetizers, as they looked on with envious stomach growls. Oops, well you would think I would take off a star for that blunder, but we were in awe at the flavor and culinary perfection of how each dish was prepared. Plus they made good to our neighbors and all was well, so no star deduction here.

As the evening went on we ordered our own appetizers, entrees and desserts and consumed every last morsel on every single plate. Our wonderful server Kate was delighted to see the expressions on our faces as we offered up our on the spot comments to the chefs creations. Tip; get the truffle ravioli.

Alas, we were the last ones to leave, and a cab was called to take us to our next adventure...

*I have always believed that a great meal is enhanced by those whom you dine with. And in this dining experience that sentiment is entirely true. Share a Seven Hills experience with someone special, you will never forget it.

As good as it gets, for sure.  Finally, a restaurant in San Francisco that really gets it.  From the cozy intimate space, to the staff, and of course the remarkable food, Alex and his team have created a gem.  This is not a pretentious overpriced, underwhelming SF eatery, but an outstanding dining experience that doesn't kill the wallet.  The food is a great mix of Italian and contemporary dishes with a great approachable wine list, all of which delivers a terrific experience.  Go here.  You will love it!

I want to give Seven Hills 4 stars, maybe even 5... but sadly, I can't (yet?). I've now been to Seven Hills twice. The first time was great, minus the acoustics - it was REALLY loud. They seemed to fix that though. I took a girlfriend who was in town and was excited to try it again. I am a pretty easy customer, really, I am. I was flexible when we had to wait 30 minutes after our reservation time to be seated. I was even patient when they moved us to a different table after ordering (so they could have a 4 top table). When I began to get frustrated was when they served our food without silverware. Then, I wasn't asked if I wanted a second glass of wine. Then, it took forever to get our check. The food, however, was wonderful! They are so close to being top-notch. Really, they are. It's worth giving them a try; we will give them another shot, too. Maybe we just had bad luck?

    House of Cards

On a mission to find another banging eatery, I recalled this little joint in my hood that was popping on every night of the week. So I decided to take my buck tooth fiancee on yet another birthday dinner. Reservations were made in advance and seating was prompt.

Ravioli Uovo initiated the meal, which consisted of ricotta cheese and spinach. A farm egg yolk sat neatly on top as it was surrounded by warm brown butter and white truffle oil. If the description itself doesn't make you salivate, order it when you decide to come here. You will not regret it because my sense of taste felt bliss.

Bone marrow followed which was served with a handful of crostini bread that was accompanied with a salad of radish and parsley. Marry that with a pinch of hawaiian sea salt and the meal just gets better and better.

Half orders of the Fettucini Carbonara and Spaghetti with Grandpapa George's Sausage were the main attraction. The pasta is made in house and I never thought I would describe pasta as such, but it felt light. The Fettucini was dressed in a white cream sauce and pancetta. This was good, but the Spaghetti, in my opinion blew it out of the water. I hear the menu changes frequently, but the Spaghetti remains constant. I understand why now.

The service was attentive and friendly. Utensils and plates were changed out between each course. Overall, I had a great dining experience and my expectations were exceeded. I recommend Seven Hills for a great dining experience. I mean, How can you not like a restaurant that plays Radiohead's House of Cards right when you sit down.

I really enjoyed my entire experience here in spite of being seated almost 30-45 minutes after our reservation time. This is probably just due to the people at our table before us really milking their time but the owner really made up for it by giving us free wine and appetizers to hold us over. He was super charming and personable which definitely helped keep our moods positive.

The food in this place is ON POINT. It was a big group of ravenously hungry women so we ordered prettttty much everything on the menu. I can't make even the slightest complaint about anything on the menu. The duck was juicy and tender, the brown butter raviolo with egg yolk to die for, the pastas, the fish, the desserts...sorry I just got lost in a moment. As our Governator once said - I'll be back.

Don't let the 3 stars fool you, Seven Hills is definitely a 3.5 star experience.  Seven Hills is cozy with a very intimate dining room.  It excels in service and in an approachable wine list.  Seven Hills considers its cuisine to be Italian but it is by no means an authentic Italian restaurant - its cuisine can more aptly be described as contemporary Californian with a strong Italian influence.  Its food is above average, but sadly lacks a "wow" factor.

Seven Hills changes its menu often depending on what is seasonal and what it was able to get its hands on so some of my recommendations may not be applicable to you on your visit.  However, if the following items are on the menu definitely try them:  bone marrow; kampachi carpaccio; arancini uovo; and the Kobe top sirloin.

The great thing about Seven Hills is that they don't rush you out of the restaurant.  Dinner is given its due significance and the meal is patiently coursed giving you time to savor a dish before you move on the next one.

OK food but overall experience is a let down.

Seven Hills was highly recommended by a friend and therefore I had a quite high expectation coming in. Our dinner reservation was at 8:45 pm (booked through Open Table). We got seated at 9:20 pm because the host somehow thought of us as "walk-ins"  (even though the first thing he did when I walked in was asked for my name and reservation time).

During the long wait, we stood and watched the host entertained all other groups that were waiting, offering them drinks but did not acknowledge us at all.

Once seated, the staff/waiters all came together, apologized for the delay, and made sure we were taken care off. All our food came out on a timely manner. We had the polenta with wild mushrooms, bone marrow with crostini, ravioli with white truffle oil and warm brown butter, pappardelle with wild boar, and an amberjack dish. The food is OK (we were just SO hungry, anything would've tasted good!) - nice, bold flavor, well made pasta, but overall too oily.

I'm giving Seven Hills a one-star because it was by far the worst experience I had with a dinner reservation mix-up/ getting seated by a host. We were seated late and treated with less courtesy compare to others because it seems like it was assumed that we did not have a reservation. I do understand the predominantly high rating here because I witnessed the good service to other guest, just did not experienced the same as I witnessed it. Kudos to the staff/waiters for good service and accommodation to make up for the mistake.

"When the moon hits your eye

When the world seems to shine
Like you've had too much wine
    That's amore"

Had Dean Martin been around to try the Ravioli Uovo with house made ricotta cheese, brown butter and white truffle oil I'm sure he would have dedicated this song to Seven Hills. As you walk in the aroma of freshly made pasta and the quaint cozy feel makes you feel as though you've stepped in to a real authentic trattoria. There's nothing over the top about this place but the service is super attentive and staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The Ravioli Uovo is quite possibly one of the top 3 pasta dishes I've had in my lifetime. Perfectly executed and prepared and every heavenly bite just melted in my mouth. The wild mushroom and frisee salad while imaginitive and unique was a bit dull and lacked flavor and the pork chop was served over a delicious sauce but the chop itself was a tad overcooked which resulted in a loss of it's potential robust flavor.

Overall I really enjoyed this experience and can still taste the brown butter, truffle oil ravioli when I close my eyes....I'll be back soon!!

Between making reservations, to the amazing dessert donuts, Seven Hills is as good as it gets. A good friend of mine was in town visiting and we had a complicated reservation. Alex (owner? manager?) made sure to personally call me back to make sure our new arrangement woud work. He was so nice and with a fabulous British accent...doesn't get much better :).

When we were seated they provided a little dish for each guest to have a little taste from the kitchen. The bread was great and abundant. The wines were all well-priced, especially bottles. We ordered family style and loved every dish. The ravioli is amazing, as were any of their homemade pastas. The pork chop was incredible as well.

For eight people, each of us paid $54, which includes 4 bottles of wine, appetizers, entrees, desserts and tip. An incredible deal.

I wouldn't recommend bringing a huge group. They were very accommodating, but its a small restaurant and the plates are easier shared among a few friends.  I can't wait to go back.

This place has the most amazing gnocchi! So light, so delicious~

I went here with the fam over the holidays. The menu looks too pricey for my budget but if someone else is paying, this place is great and the food is worth the price.

I can't hold it against a traditional Italian joint but if you're a vegetarian, this place doesn't have a plethora of options. If you're a vegan, skip it - all vegetarian options are very creamy/cheesy.

I was part of a group of 3 which headed a few blocks away to Seven Hills for dinner last week.   Despite the proximity, our 'staples' in the area have been primarily Hyde Street Bistro, Ristorante Milano, as well as a few options down Polk St.....however in the spirt of branching out and after reading a number of great reviews, we decided to give Seven Hills a try, and I'm very glad we did.

As others have written, we had a short wait, as the restaurant is small and it was quite busy.  We ordered a bottle of wine and enjoyed a glass while we waited outside for a couple of minutes.  After being seated, we started with a burrata cheese appetizer, the pork belly app, and a half-sized carbonara.  Everything was excellent- the carbonara was the big winner.  My main dish was the exceptionally prepared mushroom risotto, while my wife enjoyed the pork chop and our friend devoured the duck breasts.  Everything was truly delicious.   Desserts were a bit disappointing- we each ordered the same thing- the apple tart, and it was eh...nothing special.  Despite the fact apple dishes are my favorite desserts, I'll definitely give their other options a try next time.  The wine list was reasonably priced, and the staff & service were great.  We will return soon....

I adore this neighborhood trattoria! Their heavenly pastas are as good as what you'll get in Italy.

I tried their pasta "firecrackers" stuffed with creamy ricotta as well as their ravioli with brown butter sauce and white truffle oil. Everything was sublime.

Seven Hills' attentive and knowledgeable staff, coupled with their cozy atmosphere makes this a perfect place for date night.

We made a reservation for 8 p.m and waited 20 min for a table. The place is extremely tight and crowded. We ordered the artichokes which were tasty but nothing to rave about. The spaghetti dish we ordered was different. The noodles were almost like the kind you find in Thai dishes. A very interesting twist. The half portions are small and very pricey. Service was just ok. Our waiter forgot to bring us water and bread and had to be reminded.

Quaint Italian restaurant in Nob Hill.  The romantic decor is perfect for an evening out with someone special.  My wife and I dined here on New Year's Eve and left very satisfied.

I had the duck and the highly rated Ravioli Uovo (definitely lived up to the hype). My wife had the fresh catch of the day (Butterfish). Everything that we ordered was amazingly prepared and presented.  For dessert, the Italian Doughnuts with vanilla cream and orange zest are worth a return trip to Seven Hills alone.  Last but not least, the staff was great.

Minus the table near us deciding to confront someone about their substance abuse issues that made the vibe awkward at times, the evening was otherwise perfect.

A true gem on Hyde Street.

The address itself brings back warm memories of dinner dates with now husband year ago when it was 1550 Hyde.  It also brings shivers of horror thinking about how bad the parking is in that area.  Turns out, it looks nothing like the old 1550 Hyde.  Instead of a dark romantic whisper-in-each-other's-ears type of date restaurant, it's much more lively and crammed with patrons drooling to get seated.  The parking, unfortunately, is still the same old nightmare we experienced years ago, if not worse.

I don't want to give away the secret, but let's just say after 45 minutes of driving around, I had to resort to asking the restaurant for tip on where to park.  (so pay attention to the restaurant phone message).

Like I said, I was very very late to our dinner reservation because of the parking situation, but the wait staff didn't give me a hard time at all!  All smiles, the waitress patiently waited for 2 out of the 4 in our party to arrive way after our reservation time before asking us what we'd like to order.  I never felt rushed, despite high demand of all the tables.

Food is as just satisfying as the service: everything was delicious and decadent.  We shared three appetizers: pork belly, bone marrow, and burrata dip.  Pork belly came with a bed of spicy garbanzo beans, well balanced with the fatty pork.  Bone marrow was even more fatty and came with nicely buttered toasts.  This is definitely not a dieter's meal we have chosen.  Burrata dip was delicious and came with an unconventional pairing with squash puree.

For entree, I ordered the ravioli uovo because I have been obsessed with a runny egg inside a ravioli ever since I saw it on TV once.  I must say, though, it wasn't my favorite dish.  It was good, but not as exciting as some of the other dishes.

One friend ordered the special, home made pasta with carbonara sauce.  Unlike your generic carbonara pasta, this had a lot of great complex flavors.  Another friend got the mushroom risotto with truffle supplement.  Instantly, the entire table was immersed in the fragrance of truffles.

My favorite was the spaghetti with sausages.  The flavors were ridiculously awesome.  I would come back just for this.

We also shared a panna cotta for dessert even though we were pretty full after the entrees.  The sweet persimmon and creamy custard was a great way to end a meal.

The most surprising part was the bill.  Only $138 after tips and taxes for 4 very full bellies.  Not bad at all.

The service, and the food were both  exceptional.  I recommend the Spaghetti with Grandpa George's Sausage... A-MAZING!

My only (small) comlaints are that parking was tough, the tables were tight and the  average age of the patrons was about 55 years old. Because of close quarters and the "mature" crowd, this scene is better suited for a date than a birthday party group.

Seven Hills is a block from my house so as soon as they posted the menu in the window announcing they'd be opening soon I wanted to love it. Often times though when that happens my hopes are too high and I'm inevitably let down. It took the hubbs and I several weeks to try it and when we finally did it was for my birthday and we brought a party of 9. Again, could be potential for a let down with a big group for a special night. But they brought it and have continued each visit.
From the moment we walk in the door we are welcomed warmly and fell special. Excellent attention to detail, the owner/host, wait staff and back of the house are all wonderful and pull everything together to be a great experience. The host welcomes you with a smile and you can tell he's genuinely happy to have each customer that walks in the door and wants to have them enjoy their time there. I think we've been there about 4, maybe 5 times now and I've noticed many of the same faces each time which just shows people like working there which is a great sign. Our waiter has always known the entire menu well and is able to answer any questions and give nice insight to what pairs well together and why certain items are on the menu that day. They make their pasta on sight! My all time fave's are their famous ravioli as well as the Spaghetti with Grandpa George's sausgage. Just writing about it makes me want to throw on some shoes and walk over to order it.
Considering they opened during a time when so many businesses were closing I was hopeful they'd be able to make it survive. Well, they have, walk by any night of the week and it's jammed which makes me extremely happy to know they'll be there for the long run.

Perfect crostinis with bone marrow... hard to find!

Calamari.. too chewy. Came with good eggplant caponata

Pastas.. their in house pastas are delectable. perfectly made and perfectly cooked.

The ravioli felt a little under salted (I like salty) but once I threw a few of my hawaiian sea salt from my bon marrow dish, I loved it. Too bad I'm allergic to egg, I was limited to only a couple tiny bites.

Pappardelle with braised pork felt a little empty in terms of flavor.  I like either complex bold flavors or clean direct flavors from ingredients.  My taste buds were bored. Pappardelle nice and thin and perfectly cooked though.

Taleggio agnolotti was good and had much more flavor. They were like presents of cheese wrapped in delicate pasta sitting in a pool of butternut squash puree.  I almost wanted the butternut squash to be inside the pasta on a thin strip of gruyere fondue or something.... maybe I'll make that for dinner. thanks seven hills for the inspiration.

Mistake. We ordered icecream sundaes for the each of us. Two huge scoops of Swenson's mint chocolate chip icecream with whipped cream for a girl with dairy allergy is not good.

Make life easier if you're coming on a weekend night. Add $20 to the cost of dinner and just park at the garage on hyde and union. Walk a few blocks and you'll be there.  Don't go through the headache of finding a parking spot, it's not worth it. (but I guess one circle around the block won't hurt?).  Careful if you have a sports package on your car though, it probably won't go down into the garage.

We started here to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday.  I picked this place because it was Italian and in the same vicinity as the Nob Hill Masonic Auditorium where we were heading to after dinner.

It's small yet romantic and illuminated about with candles.  Every twenty minutes, the trolley goes by - very San Francisco!

We started off with house wines, white and red, both very  good.  I read beforehand that you have to ask for bread and we did not but our server offered so we said "yes!".  I love bread with my wine.  Then we had the heirloom tomato with mozerella and chick pea chips that were amazing on their own.  Dale had the green salad with ricotta cheese and toasted pecans.  They were both delicious.  Before the starters, we got a complimentary taste of a small bar of spinach and cheese mixed with some tomato and herbs.  I love when the chef does that!

Dale ordered the Spaghetti with sausage and loved it.  I had the Organic Chicken which I also loved.  It was cooked perfectly under a brick with sage leaves cooked under the crispy seasoned skin - YUM!!!  After dinner we had coffee that was served in small carafes, enough for two cups of coffee - I liked that!

Parking was a challenge from what I read in previous reviews so I called ahead & asked where we could park.  We parked at the Jug Store a couple of blocks down the street.  You can park there for 10 dollars until 2:00 A.M.  Then we took a cab from this place to the Auditorium.

disappointed. i had talked this place up to a friend. couldn't wait to treat ourselves. maybe they should invest in a host/ess b/c it seemed like staff could not be bothered with us when we walked in & waited for several minutes to be aknowledged. we were told to come back in 20 minutes for a table (why not suggest we get a glass of wine & wait there?). we returned after 20 but still no table & it seemed that perhaps because we were 2 women rather than a co-ed couple we were not seem as much of a priority. we left & instead to went to Thai Spice where we were warmly greeted & seated immediately & had a much lovelier and less expensive meal.

Yeah, I know. We're suppose to live in the present. But I just can't, especially when I compare 1550 Hyde (the former restaurant at this location) to Seven Hills. Yes, they've classed the place up and made the interior more esthetically pleasing, but for me, it doesn't have the charm and quaintness that 1550 did. The food is good, but not as good as 1550s. Nor is the wine list... although they do have a load of super affordable wines, and for that, I thank them.

YUM!  I love this restaurant.  Ever since it opened I have been here at least once a month, sometimes twice!  Alex, the owner, is wonderful, he is always there, often stops by our table to chat and catch up, and occasionally has an extra pour of wine for us. Service is excellent, the staff is knowledgeable on the wine list, always has great recommendations and points out new additions to the menu.  They also boast a nice well priced wine list, some really great bottles for mid-range prices.

I love their menu, it is very well priced for the taste and quality of the meals. In this city getting out of a restaurant for less than $100 including wine is a little miracle, but easily done at Seven Hills.   I have so many favorites on the menu it's hard to narrow it down to just a few on a review, I would say that if you are in the mood for something savory, the ravioli uovo is a must, the combination of egg, ricotta, butter and truffle is amazing.  I also love love the burratta and the bone marrow.  For a more home-style pasta, grandpa's spaghetti is fabulous, and on a steak night, the flank with arugula is absolutely fantastic.

I've never had a bad meal or experience here, remember to make reservations, it's usually packed and as it's a small space, it's not optimal to have a glass of wine while waiting for a table, although there is a wine bar across the street that fills in as a close waiting option.

For context, I picked this place for a first date because of the desired ambiance and service. Neither of which disappointed!

I had a reservation, but when showing up, we ended up waiting for 20 minutes or so because the restaurant was packed and a huge party had showed up unannounced. The staff tried their best to handle the situation and were able to get us drinks and have us mill around comfortably near the entrance.

Service was excellent! The tortellini we had ordered was a little greasy. Duck breast at medium rare was delicious!
