Flat white & the NY times, what's not to love! Before you roll your eyes, hear me out...

Flat whites have kind of a terrible name but they're actually just an espresso run long (so more water) with steamed milk. It's less milky than a latte, less foamy than a cappuccino, stronger than an americano. Seven grams have them on the menu whereas most coffee shops in Toronto say they make them but end up giving you a latte. Their espresso roast is perfect for a stronger coffee because it's not bitter like some other shops in the city.

The seating is spacious with an upstairs large share table and a downstairs seating area and the NY times is great to browse on Sunday's.

    Flat whites and free wifi!

This place has 2-level seating with plenty of light and an outdoor patio. It is practically empty during the day with a few suits coming in and out on their coffee breaks. Clean place, professional and polite staff, and unlimited lemon water. Can't go wrong.

It is a tad swanky but not in a way that makes you feel bad. Just a little more upscale than a regular coffee spot. More modern, less cozy. Come for the coffee. It's very good.

    VIBE
I was intrigued by the name of this cafe. (And no, it's not in the most convenient location but it's a nice departure from the crowded, snobby mess that is the Yorkville Starbucks).  I wonder if they got the name from the drug-laden movie starring Naomi Watts?

Anywho, it's all style in here. This two story shop (yay! two stories!) hits the right decor notes: the bright orange egg, laden chairs; the orange tiles, the wooden banquette seating flush with coffee bean bag pillows and more. It's nice to see attention paid to seating whereas competitors want an in-and-out crowd.

I was trying to read a book and thought that at 6 p.m. on a Wednesday night, it would be quiet. A few people came in an hour before closing and the chatter and not-quiet but not-loud music wasn't the most welcome sounds, but I'll try not to be a snot about it.  I got the couch downstairs. I was happy about that.  I was also privy to an interview at that time. I hope the guy gets the job. Good kid. Overall, a nice, clean place.

The baristas are young but they're keen and professional.

    I DRANK
London Fog. It was in the okay range. I think I have a preference to the one made at Tsaa. I got a big cup so I guess it's worth it's almost $5 value.

I like it here. It's bigger than you think it is.

Great coffee, food and people. Lots of seating and lots of plugs for your electronics. It's got a homely vibe and doesn't make you feel strange that you're sitting here for hours. I love the art on the walls too.

My only hesitation is that it's not really accessible unless you live in the area or willing to pay a lot for parking. There's not really spaces anywhere for long periods of time, nor is it close to any subway station. About a 15 min walk from St. George.

It's summer (! did i speak too soon!), so they have put some tables on the patio.

I got a Cappuccino with Soy Milk. Yums. Going to get a Green Tea Matcha Latte when I leave. It's a bit pricey at $4.

Free wifi, so plop yourself down. The only bad thing about sitting downstairs is that you can hear every movement from the upper level. It also doesn't help the store manager wears heels and walks heavy. It  was better when I moved from underneath the bulk head.

Its a great addition to the neighbourhood, we need more independent coffee houses!

The first time I had Siphon processed coffee was at Sam James coffee bar, which will remain as my fave coffee shop because of the integrity of the owner and the quality of the beans but with a recent visit to Chicago and reminder of my love for Intelligentsia coffee and it's pour over coffee I decided that a return home would require me to find the best pour place in the city.

Read reviews on Seven Grams and decided to go. With intentions to go the  pour route I got distracted when I saw something called the Trifecta. They claim to have the only machine in Canada so obvi I forgot about my original intent for visit.

The atmosphere is clean and modern with lots of seating. I found the staff to be slightly snobby, and not in a I'm a coffee connoisseur type of way, but more like this is Ave and Dav and my daddy owns a Ferrari.

Thank god the coffee was fantastic, I'd like to come back to to try the pour but their capps looked good also and I had a gluten free choco almond cookie which was delicious as well.

My heart still belongs to Sam James coffee but I'd give this over-priced place prolly another chance.

So, I am rocking my "Indie Coffee Passport," (Warning: Complete Plug-In Here!) Guys Google it! For $25 you get to try 30 different coffee based drinks for free at different Indie Cafes in Toronto. If not for the value, then do it for the sense of adventure! :-P Kidding aside, it is an excellent way to check out Cafes you would otherwise not even know they exist. The current Passport expires on March 31st but they might have another promotion after that, hey, coffee for thought.

Okay back to the review. Unless you live IN Yorkville or Forest Hill, which I used to a few years ago, this place is a bit out of the way north, close to Davenport so it is not the most convinient. So personally I would not call this my "chillin' spot," due to the walk you have to do from either from Museum or the Bay subway stations. Although you can cut through Hezelton lanes if it is on a chilly Saturday morning.

However, since I have the Coffee Passport, I decided to swing by with my partner in crime (she got a passport for Christmas and we are doing this thing mostly together) to check it out.

I like the modern, minimalist look as I sometimes find that orange can be such a cool hipster colour if used rightly in the decour. Which they have here. The dark wooden accents throughout help to give this place a very très chic look.

So, I have been here a few times already and it can get somewhat busy specially in the afternoons but the place, with it's relatively spacious open-concept-loft- look (2 floors!) does give an ambiance that even with a full house, it will still not feel "packed." Unlike places like Aroma.

Ironically, I am not the best when it comes to coffee, so all I can say is that my macchiato was strong, smooth, tasty and lacked the very mild acidity you find in cheaper coffee. Even with milk.

The latte's are well presented here and well made (I am looking at you Seven West and your crap shoot baristas) so I would go back if it wasn't for the Winter and the fact that I have another 20+ cafes to visit in the next 2 1/2 months.

Cookies and snacks did look appetizing however I was just heading out for Indian after this so we did not try anything. So I cannot report on that.

Great little place, if it was closer to a subway, I would come back more often.

Seven Grams probably has the coolest interior space of any cafe, it's got three levels to choose from, the top where you would find the counter has a medium sized communal table, the second tier is just a few seats with a comfy looking arm chair but I found the basement the best option and it seems like they made every effort to maximize seating capacity without sacrificing too much space, huge props for that. The only challenge was was balancing my latte all the way down two flights of stairs. I had to leave my gingersnap unguarded while I did that.

Very reliable wifi even in the basement, it seems like a great study spot with a comfy couch to go along with a lot of the wooden seating surface.

I wish they had better food options (at a slightly lower cost wouldn't hurt either) as my gingersnap was not amazing and not a lot of their food options looked appealing for me. But I can't hate on them too much for that since they still do offer you those options. My latte was also very nicely done and had some nice latte art to admire as well. Really enjoyed that aspect.

Staff was friendly nothing over the top and it seemed like they were doing Movember as well (or so I would hope) so props for that as well.

While it's a little bit of a walk from the main Yorkville area Seven Grams is on top of my coffee shop list for that area.

The verdict is still out on Seven Grams lattes.

I came back yesterday, after all, I did proclaim that it was my new hang out place. Fortunately, it was not as busy and we were able to get real comfortable on one of the couches downstairs. Unfortunately, my latte was not as good as the first one I tried, and it even had a strange taste to it. Perhaps it was the milk.

I will have to come back yet again to make a proper judgement. Customer service, however, was great; the employee even carried my latte all the way downstairs.

Great cappuccino! I like the staff and it's a great space, but the crowd has had a very 'yorkville' feel (ie stuffy) when I've stopped by, but that may be because it's been during the late morning on weekdays.

The baked goods are good, but a bit expensive. They're from Circle & Squares I think, so that's par for the course.

I've basically stopped going to starbucks since they opened up.

Cute coffee shop. Nice decor. New, shiny. Nice gas fireplace on the lower level (but it gets pretty warm).

The flat white (I think that's what I ordered?) was ok but tasted a bit bitter. I was a bit disappointed but I've read that it varies depending on who makes the espresso bevies, so I'd try it again to form a proper opinion.

The oatmeal chocolate chip cookie was delicious, except for the giant hair baked into it. They replaced it with another, less hairy one though...

Free wifi, only cut out once... No free parking anywhere near this area if you drive. Seating is comfortably spaced apart; not too crammed like some coffee shops.

Overall, the atmosphere and the tasty (yet hairy) cookie were the pros. I'd go back to try another espresso-based drank, and the sandwiches look pretty yummy.

They have a loyalty card too.

I dig this coffee spot. I love sitting downstairs in the cozy environment and catching up on readings. It's quiet during weekday afternoons so that makes it a great place to study. The pop of orange color in the chairs and the pillows make me happy.  Been here twice so far. Tried their panini the first time and coffee brewed from their  Bunn Trifeca machine. Coffee came out smooth and clean  but it got cold really easily. They serve them in this clear cup that's not glass and not quite plastic. I'm not sure what material it is actually. Second time around I tried their white hot chocolate. It wasn't my favorite as I felt it was too light and not rich enough. But the latte art on top was really pretty :) Prices were a little on the high side but then again it is located in Yorkville.

Perched on the corner of Avenue and a leafy side street is Seven Grams, one of the new kids on the indie coffee scene in Toronto this year. I've visited a couple of times and tried a few things, and overall i've been pretty pleased!

    The offerings:
    * Lattes - very close to being a damn good latte, except it depends on your barista and they use a brand of soy milk that i'm not a fan of.
    * Syphon - super awesome way to brew (WITH SCIENCE!!) and it makes a freakin' delicious cup of joe.
    * Cold brewed coffee is really super nice, savour every sip.
    * Teas - come out in a pot with a mug on the side. Classy stuff.
    * Light snacks and treats, cookies on offer if you're peckish.

    The surroundings:
    * Decor is pretty snazzy, the place feels very upscale, but there's a strange mix of regular cafe seating, then a nice big wooden table, and also a few wacky armchairs and a couch or two.
    * Depending on what you'd like out of perching and sipping, there's the aforementioned communal table, some window seating, and more tables downstairs.
    * Decent washroom facilities

    The people:
    * Staff are friendly, and more than willing to have a chat to you about the stuff they have on offer (I was hovering asking questions about the syphon, and the gentleman brewing my coffee was super nice and helpful!)
    * It seems like a lot of solo people come here to camp during weekdays - it's  a pity more of them don't use the communal table, because I saw more than a few people try to snag a table but were thwarted by laptoppers.
    * Interesting mix of clientele stream through here, it can be interesting people-watching.

I gotta try and get up this way more often!

Another stop on my Indie Coffee Passport and another great new discovery! The space is airy and minimalist, with a gallery feel. I had a cappuccino, which was artfully done, super-smooth, and rich with flavour. They have pitchers of lemon water on each floor, which is a nice touch. I also had a chicken and brie panini ($9). It had a nice pesto spread and the bread they use is really soft and fresh. Prices are slightly higher than other places I've visited using the Coffee Passport.

I sat downstairs, read a book, and enjoyed the comfy and fuzzy pillows they have lining the bench. Most of the other people were on laptops, although there was a job interview/artist's collaboration meeting going on a few tables over. They have some shelves of newspapers and magazines in the basement.

Staff brought the panini down to my table and came down frequently to check up and clean tables. The guy who served me was a bearded hipster, but the other staff person was a woman in a little black dress and thigh high boots scurrying around... kind of unusual attire for a weekday afternoon, but whatevs. Service was fine, kind of indifferent -- this is Yorkville after all. I felt a bit weird when they took away my plate and almost empty mug, because then I was just sitting there with a glass of water, looking like I didn't buy anything... I felt like they were trying to get me to leave, although there were tons of empty tables... (-1 star).

Music was a pleasing mix of Beirut and Deerhunter.

It appears that they host some occasional lectures or other events. There is a lecture on Vermeer coming up and they had some posters for it.

I came here as part of Indie passport to try out their cappuccino.
The setup is gorgeous so full marks for that (very modern and clean) .
You get to see a lot of eye candy depending on what time you go.
Now for the main the cappuccino was OK not great (I would prefer it over the rest of the cafes I have tried in this area for  sure)
The ceramic mug kept warm and the espresso shot was hot. Milk was frothed well and good finish on the latte art.
The drink was mellower than what I prefer but over all a good 3.5 stars. If I am in this are and want my java fix this is the place I would hit.
If I factor in the setup and eye candy :) a solid 4 star.

Me Walking down Avenue Road heading towards Starsbuck .. No idea what Seven Grams is... Looks like one of those chic expensive designer furniture store when I looked through the window.. Then I saw ESPRESSO... I ran in so fast!! Bye Bye Starsbuck!

Such an amazing space!! I was sold on those orange space ship style chairs... how cool they look!!

If you want more actions, you can hang out in the area right in front of the espresso bar... watching the barista at work and people watching always fun!!

If you want some peace and quiet, there is also a lower level... benches with cushions.... tons of cushions......

I was lucky to find an outlet so I able to charge up my ipod and check in using their Free Wifi..

Cappuccino ($3.59) was quite good with great latte art. Seven Grams is one of those places that has this strong roast and I secretly wish there is more milk froth in my drink.

Seven Grams now being my official hangout place when I am in the area! It is that awesome!!

This literally cool café in Yorkville was a delight on Toronto's first scorching summer day. Located just south of Davenport on Avenue Rd, Seven Grams is just enough off the beaten path. It's a sleek and modern split-level coffeeshop with plenty of seating and great coffee.

As you enter a trio of egg-shaped orange chairs greets you as if you say, "we are a trio of egg-shaped orange chairs". This orange motif is repeated along the stair risers leading to the coffee bar, and ultimately culminates in the bright tiled wall behind the counter. Chic is the word for this interesting space.

On this top level is where you'll find espresso, pre-made sandwiches, and pastries (by none other than Circles and Squares). There are an array of weird coffee-making contraptions about; on my visit a jumble of wood and glass tubes were tacitly working in concert to fill a white bowl with drip coffee. This counter-top science project was a cold press, i.e., yet another way to extract flavour from coffee beans. (But do we really need anymore?)

I ordered an iced latte and a bagel and cream cheese. The only seating upstairs was a communal table filled with Mactards, so I trekked down into the empty and wonderfully frigid lower level.

The floors downstairs resemble terrazzo, though I think it might be polished concrete. The room is bounded with wood benches adorned with pillows. Not the most comfortable, but there was plenty of other seating down here too. With a much lower ceiling than the 2nd floor, the entire basement is lit like a gallery: the ceiling-mounted halogen bulbs highlighting the art on the walls. And a fair bit of natural light from the front gets down here as well. It's definitely cold down here, but it seems they have anticipated the winter, as a wall-mounted fireplace sits ready for service. (With a sign indicating "Do Not Touch". Seriously, fellas.)

My one complaint is a nerdy one: not enough outlets for the aforementioned Mactards. By which I mean virtually none, and thus I had to leave after an hour. But there is free Wifi. Just ask for the password.

Over all Seven Grams is a remarkably cutting-edge space with great service. (My bagel literally arrived on a platter.) Oh, and they make a mean latte too. I'll be sure to try a proper espresso next time.

Obligatory Title Pun: The SEVENTH wonder of the coffee world.

Menu Readability: Liquid crayon on glass.

Need to mention: Their till is an iPad!

What this place teaches me about myself: Yeah, yeah. I'm a laptop-toting loser too.

Actually it's 3.5 stars but you can't do that on YELP.

No cafe passport here, just searching for a good latte.  Great space, nice and bright natural lighting, love the floor treatments, orange ceramic tiles etc.

When you operate a coffee shop, you don't want it TOO comfortable, or the full-day laptop crowd will take over. So I actually appreciate a bit of uncomfortable seating (especially downstairs) so that's not a bad thing.

The prices are a bit of a shock (really... $2.50 for a cookie is a bit much??!!)

Did I mention the $2.50 cookie.  Actually, it was the best Ginger Snap i've had in a long time,

But did i mention it was a bit expensive? The coffee i mean.

Just north of yorkville, seven grams is a welcoming cafe on the corner of avenue and webster. Lots of natural light, exposed brick, lots of space, and a beautiful charcoal gray and burnt umber colour palette. Quiet, chill music blends with the (mostly) softspoken convos of the upscale but unpretentious mid-30 to mid-s0 aged clientele. The food options look lovely and there is a vegan cookie option. I didn't ask, but I feel that the lentil soup and steel cut oats (with soy) could also be vegan. I had an soy americano misto, which was quite lovely. If I was in the area again, I'd definitely visit, but not if I wanted to stay and hang out for an extended period of time. Although the decor is very nice and cozy, the seating is super uncomfortable! Hard plastic chairs and an even harder wooden bench that runs along the wall. There seems to be one comfy spot - a couch by the fireplace - other than that, get ready for your butt to kill halfway through your coffee.

Good cappuccino & panini!!! Wow, so authentic!!!! They are pricey but they are real deal!!! If you like Stumptown Coffee, you'll love their coffee. Some Yelpers were raving about the "sleek and amazing space", but I felt that's an overstatement. It's a nice simple modern space, but nothing super chic or uber-trendy. Having worn out my welcome at every Starbucks in the 416 area, I had been searching for a new midtown place to park my carcass and my laptop and get work done.  I discovered 7g and my search is over at long last.  Chic, quick wifi, friendly staff, non-tinned music, etc. -- just what I needed.  It's just far enough from Bloor St. to prevent crowds, but close enough to Yorkville that it doesn't seem eerily empty.  I haven't tried their espresso drinks but their drip coffee's solid (if a little pricey).

Hands down the best coffee place in TO. Delicious lattes, flat whites, pour-over drip coffees, and regular tank coffee. Superb pastries--including light-as-air, buttery, flaky croissants--baked on premises. And perhaps best of all, a wonderfully comfortable space on two levels with gorgeous modern decor, generous seating, spacious tables, comfortable benches with throw pillows, air conditioning, free wifi, and free electrical outlets all around. Also an excellent soundtrack. My search is over!
