If you are looking for an alternative to the behemoth that is Starbucks and happen to find yourself in Canada, make Serious Coffee a destination.
This location had plenty of comfortable seating, decent prices for drinks, a good selection of food and friendly baristas. The vanilla latte was delicious and served at the perfect temperature between lava hot and emotionally dettached woman (i.e. cold).
I do love my Starbucks, but when given the chance, I like to support a local chain. Serious Coffee was well worth my time. -

I've only been there once but I got a pretty good latte (though I don't like that they don't have short [8 oz] lattes). The strawberry smoothie and the chocolate milk went down well with the kids. There was plenty of parking and easy access from Blanshard and Fisgard streets. I will definitely return if I'm nearby when the caffeine level drops again.
