I heart this multitiered gallery housing creations from fresh Halifax artists. Not only is this emporium located in a grand old part of town close to the harbour, the space itself is quite chic.
Upon entry, you will be greeted by varying pieces, dreamt up and executed by talented NSCAD students. Keep heading up, and you'll reach different plateaus, each area often focusing on themes or specific mediums.
Higher you'll climb until eventually you reach a balcony-ish segment, overlooking the other levels below. From graphic tees to large canvas painting, boasting jewels and rings, to drawings and pottery, so many different crafts are represented in this inspiring space.
If you're looking to peruse or purchase, this gallery is a must-see for local talent at its best. Go and shop, go and peek - just go!Listed in: Trinkets and Marvels, Artsy Fartsy

Kind of tucked away behind NSCAD but a great little gallery none the less. The space is pretty neat with a few different levels in an older dock/harbour type building. Lots of different media represented here made by students from NSCAD. Neato!
Lots of different bits available for purchase as well. Range of different prices from handmade t-shirts and notebooks up to sculptures. Something for everyone (if you're into taking something away that is).
Really enjoyed leafing through their year review books. Fun to see what all the final year projects were for former students. -

If you want to support the local artists, then you should go to Seeds.
Here is where NSCAD students display their work. You will find everything from sculptures, paintings, crafts and it will be one of a kind.
Take the extra step to go to the gallery, it is worth the trip and the staff are great. You never know what treasures you will find here. -

Seeds is definitely my favorite art Gallery in Halifax. The quick turn over and high quality means there is always something new to see and it's probably always going to be really interesting.
The artists are NSCAD students or alumni and the work they produce for the gallery shows why NSCAD is such a highly respected art institution. Most of the art on display is available for purchase and the prices range from incredibly affordable to, well, not so much.
The gallery displays prints, paintings, hand crafts, ceramics, and a lot of other great art. I almost always do my card shopping here as they usually have really neat pieces that may very well be one-of-a-kind. Who doesn't love one-of-a-kind!?
The Seeds Gallery is definitely a spot to watch local talent grow (see what I did there?). It's deep downtown and a little out of the way for some, but take the few extra steps and check it out, you will be filled with a sense of pride in our local talent and maybe find that perfect piece for your home or apartment, one to really tie the room together. -

Seeds is a NSCAD student and alumni art gallery, which displays and sells their work. It is slightly out of the downtown shopping areas, but please take the extra couple of minutes to check it out. You wont be disappointed, I promise!
The main displays rotate almost weekly, and there is always something new to check out. The annual Print show is my personal favorite. It displays fine art work from small to large, ceramics, clothing, jewelry, accessories and stationary.
The price range starts as low as $5 for a hand made card, to in the high hundreds for those extra special art pieces. There really is something for everyone, and if you are feeling overwhelmed, the staff are very friendly and excited to help you.
This is the only NSCAD affiliated business of this kind in Halifax. I encourage everyone to go and admire the art, or even stop by for a show opening, which usually take place Mondays at 6pm. Hey, you might also feel good for supporting local artists, instead of that corporate guilt after blowing your paycheck at the mall, ahem. -

Capitalising on NSCAD students' lack of notoriety (yet), Seeds Gallery is an amazing place to find great art on the cheap. Halifax's art school is home to a wealth of talent but most of the students are yet to find a big market for their art. Enter Seeds. This small space gives students exposure and gives the general public a chance to purchase pieces they make for very reasonable prices. I've seen things here ranging from wearable textiles to framed lithographs to ceramic sculpture to stationary. Exhibits cycle through frequently, which makes this a favourite place of mine for stopping by while walking downtown. It's staffed by NSCAD students too, which often makes for good conversation.
And who knows, maybe that random thing you pick up will turn out to be worth more someday.
