Review from Tania J.
Toronto, ON
This little store specializes in all kinds of South African products, primarily foods and some other items like magazines and housewares. They have a great selection of SA Cadbury's, and lots of interesting goods. I love their frozen meat pies and samoosas. THey also have boerwors and biltong. The proprietor, Neil is very welcoming and friendly and makes a point to get to know all his customers.

One of my favorites. South African grocery in the traditional sense. Family run establishment with a Canadian twist. A real Thornhill gem.
30 Sec Summary
--------------------------------
1. The frozen chicken pot pies are arguably the best in the GTA (bit on the pricey side $5.00 per each single serving) (Chicken and Mushroom and Chicken Curry are both delicious and consistent. Crust is flaky and tasty with a balance between sweet chunks of chicken and vegetable. Not like the store bought variety. These are hand made like grandma used to make. (Cook them for 30 minutes @ 350, microwave for 5 minutes to defrost the center, cook in a convection oven - will yield the best results)
2. Beef varieties are available but not as tasty as some from Costco. The Chicken is where Sedo excels.
3. The desserts and selection of candy's are outstanding. If you think South Africa Cadbury's or alternative they have it in stock at a reasonable price. Compared to some ex-pat British stores they carry the same chocolate a 20-30% off. Careful you will end up buying $30 worth of chocolate and cookies as you will want to try everything in the store
4. The South African / Dutch influenced Biltong beef (cured beef jerky) is identical to what my Grandfather used to make. It is chewy and nutritious. I prefer it a wee bit more spicy but it has the right balance. Excellent for those on a high protein diet. Great for hikers or those going fishing or camping. Does not require
5. Friday afternoon is when the crowds come. It seems every ex-Pat South African comes to pick up their weekend supplies and restocks. The lines up are small but the conversations with the owner means you will be there for a while. My suggestion is to keep browsing until they finish.
6. They also carry some unique Israeli items. Well worth the try. Prices here are better than most stores.
Recommendation: Strong Buy (go when it is not too busy)
