One of my favorite Sunday pastimes; particularly if I haven't gotten to bed yet after Saturday nights shenanigans, is to stumble into Sebs Market Cafe by my house. Made to order glasses of orange and apple juice are teeming with flavor and divinely pulpy. The foam on top of the apple juice is particularly my favorite (best eaten with a spoon, I'm not kidding)

Here you will find the BEST bennies in the city. They have taken great creativity in the ingredients chosen for their eggs benedict. Even going as far as creating different signature sauces to go with the various combinations. The sauce choices include Harvarti, Curry Pineapple, and Chipotle-Wild Berry and are perfect for smothering the elk medallions, grilled portobello mushroom, or even smoked salmon that you may choose for your hand picked benny combination.

My favorite however is the Tomato Tortilla Breakfast Wrap. A delicious wrap packed with grilled veggies and eggs (or tofu if you prefer). Grilled zuccini, peppers and onions taste perfect with a dollop of fresh made in house salsa. Served with a fresh garden salad or roasted roots and the largest serving of garnish fruit that puts other plates to shame. Always fresh, always cooked to perfection, and never disappointing.

Sebs also offers an awesome lunch menu with a variety of sandwiches and even some great larger meal options such as Braised lamb shank. Although you'll want to get going early on the weekend as they are often packed and you might have to wait a bit. I promise it is worth it.

I had low expectations for Seb's--in part from reading many Yelp reviews underwhelmed by the brunch. Having seen the Bennys coming out of the kitchen, I could see those being unmemorable--the hollandaise was actually more of a cheese sauce, and it laid with a lumpy, pasty glue atop the eggs.

I had the roasted garlic and shiitake omelette and it was actually quite good; Paired with house-made bread and preserves, it was simple and tasty. I appreciated too that the omelette was not lacquered in a glaze of oil, usually leading to 'omelette gut' later. Instead, it was a hearty, three-egg concoction with a nice mixture of fresh ingredients.

Even though the coffee was allegedly JJ Bean, it tasted off--but since I can't imagine brunch without coffee suggesting you not get coffee goes against my conscience. That said, if you like juice, I noticed nearby tables slurping down lots of colourful and fresh-looking concoctions.

You know what I like about Seb's? I like that they bother to have a vegan brunch option. I like that it's been around for a little while in a neighbourhood that's changing so rapidly. I like how cozy and neighbourhood-feeling it is. I like the casual service.

What I don't like: it closes at 3! Seriously! There are so few places to eat around there, it'd be great if Seb's did dinner service.

The tofu scramble is mediocre, by the way, but you won't find many better ones in the city.

Pretty disappointing. Flavours are bland as other posters have written. I ordered the elk medallion eggs benedict which was gamey and somewhat interesting but my wife's crabmeat egg benedict came out cold. There was only one chef in the kitchen and maybe this was simply due to the long weekend, but it seemed she was getting pretty overwhelmed with just a half-full restaurant. The crabmeat is clearly canned which honestly shouldn't even be on the menu if you're not going to take the effort to get fresh stuff. The orange juice is freshly squeezed and the coffee was OK, but nothing to write home about.

    Seb's is a great place!

If you wake up late go somewhere else cause these guys cater so close quite promptly.

Staff seem nice enough but getting 'looked over' as far as service is concerned will not make me stop going there cause I had pie made in house that was splendid.

    Oh Sebs.

Sebs is one of those hidden gems in East Van that I always forget about and then squee in delight when I remember.

The Sebs Bennys have to be my favourite, specifically the Panfried Sweet Peppers, Onions & Basil. But I will add that the Bacon and Carmelized Apple omelet and the Strawberry and Camembert Omelets are top on my list as well.

Sebs has great coffee, amazing staff, a lovely little location and the food is always amazing.

I suggest stopping in whenever you're hungry and they won't treat you wrong!

It's really teeny tiny! But the food is ever so delish for breakfast/brunch. I used to live right around the corner from here and was never disappointed with the food.

They also have a fantastic selection of breads for every carboholic.

The servers are also quite lovely and friendly.

Can anyone do breakfast right, in this town?

Seb's seems like the kind of place the should a good brunch/breakfast. Cheerful servers and a nice atmosphere. But when it comes to their food, other than their coffee (JJ Bean), 6 of us eating breakfast Saturday morning had nothing good to say.

Overdone toast, flavourless omelettes... plus when I order the Turkey Sausage and Cheddar, their really ought to be the slightest hint of cheese. Seb's loves to add a special treat to each of their breakfast plates. A classic, Jewish morsel.... a potato latke. AKA potato pancake. Sadly, all 6 of us were served potato Lumpkes.

If you're going to do that, you need to make them fresh or not at all. Tossing a rock-hard potato chunk on my plate isn't a "nice added touch". It's a "sorry little mistake".

I want Seb's to be good, but this is twice now that we've experienced mediocre food with very little flavour.

You know what, the place was actually not AS GREAT as I expected... but I think I walked in with pretty high expectations.
I thought the service was fast and efficient despite the crowd (or maybe it was because of the crowd?) and the cost was decent.

I ordered the Elk benny and my husband had the smoked salmon benny.
The biscuit was flavourful and eggs were actually done perfect but I found the sauce to be completely tasteless and it was supposed to be Chiptotle?

If the menu offers such unique and colourful descriptions, the food should be equally as adventurous in my opinion.

Step it up Seb! I'll be back again to give you another try :D

I love the bennys and omelets at Sebs. I do not love waiting in line, unfortunately, so I don't come here as often as I would like to. If the line is visible from the outside, we just drive on by. However, if it isn't crazy busy (it often is), I have always gotten fast and friendly service. Recommendations: Elk Benny, Strawberry & Camembert Omelet, Caribou & Sun-dried Tomato Scramble. Super recommendation: try a side of their roast garlic-coconut Gai Lan - totally random but surprisingly good with eggs!

Oh Seb's, you're so mediocre it kills me. The menu descriptions? Magical. The ambiance? Lovely. The concept? Brillz. The food? Sigh. I might as well eat unflavoured matter.  I have to salt the heck outta everything and it always kind of falls flat. That said, nothing is ever offensive. It's.... simply....mediocre.

They haven't changed up their brunch menu in almost 10 years - maybe this is the problem? Mediocrity aside, I don't mind heading here for brunch. See? "I don't mind"? This is not the way to inspire paroxysms of joy in your clientele. More flavour, please Mr. Seb!

Came for brunch the other day and was pretty disappointed with the quality of the food. The menu looked great, but my meal fell short. The one great thing was the coffee - just the house drip coffee was full flavoured and delicious. I ordered the bacon and caramelized apple omelette.  Sounds great right?!  Too bad the bacon wasn't cooked enough, and I didn't actually get any apple. The potatoes were OK, but the plate overall was under seasoned. My friend ordered the same thing, and hers was markedly better than mine. So maybe they get it right, sometimes.  I didn't give any feedback at the time, to spare my friend who would have been embarrassed. But, I don't plan on going back, as I can get a way better brunch for less money elsewhere.

I've always thought that Seb's was a good breakfast spot, but my recent visit left me underwhelmed. It could've just been a bad menu choice, but my smoked salmon scrabbled left me feeling unsatiated. The potatoes were bland, the eggs a bit overcooked for my liking- the only attractive part of the plate was the hearty toast.  There are some great breakfast spots around the city, I don't think I'll be heading back to Seb's any time soon.

Hi Seb, it's me again.  I think we need to talk.  It's not you, it's me.  Or maybe it is you, and not me.  I'm confused what the problem is, but I know this relationship is not working for me.  I've tried to like you, I really have.  It seems other people tend to like you.  Everyone has their off days, the first couple of times I hoped that's all it was, an off day.  You look cozy on the inside, I like the atmosphere you bring to the room, and the menu sounds great...  But it's all just talk.  All those tasty things you promised me on your menu, they sounded great, I fell for it, but you never delivered.  Brunch or lunch, it's all the same problems with you.  I can't see myself with someone who is as bland and under-seasoned as you are.  I'm sorry it had to end this way but I wish you the best and hope you are happy with someone else.

P.S. I don't want you hanging out with my friends.

Benny, you definitely are working the unique angle with "medallion of elk" as the first in a series of options ranging from tomato and spinach to black forest ham. And no one can deny that you're working hard to bring something different to our brunch routine with 3 kinds of sauces - none of which are traditional hollandaise. But sold, I'm not. The grilled tomato and spinach was lifeless. The spinach was chopped up, much like what you'd see coming from a freezer. The havarti sauce was bland. Saving graces? Homefries and the savoury biscuit the benny sat upon.

PS. Thanks for all of the coffee refills. JJ Bean never tasted to good!

I had heard great things about Seb's and located right in my neighbourhood I have no idea why I haven't checked it out sooner.  The menu looks awesome, I think I just may have ordered the wrong thing.

It's a lovely little cafe with a comfortable atmosphere, and the service was friendly and casual.  I ordered a crab eggs benny - unfortunately they don't really make them there.  The only ingredient that was consistent in what I got and a benny was the poached egg.  It was a poached egg on heavy bread biscuit topped with cheese sauce.  I do like the idea of the three different types of "hollandaise sauce," (harvarti, curry-pineapple, or chipotle wild-berry) but I don't like that I can't just get a straight up hollandaise if I want it.  And I really didn't like the biscuit.  It made breakfast far too heavy, and the seasoning in the biscuit took away from the crab.

I went with the BF and a friend, we all got a "benny" and none of us were particularly pleased.  I'll go back to try some of the other menu items that looked delicious, but I won't be ordering a "benny" again.

There has to be somewhere else, there just has to be. After trying to go to Medina at 8am for breakfast, only to be told that they only start serving at 9, I found myself once again at Seb's.

Once again, slow service. To add insult to injury, The omelette I ordered was wrong. Avocado and store bought guacamole are not equivalent, and if someone orders avocado, you should check before using costco guacamole in their omelette. Fine, no big deal, not even worth mentioning to the server.  I also added sundried tomatoes to my omelette and couldn't find or taste any. So, I mentioned it to the server, who promptly consulted with the chef and they both basically accused me of lying.  I'm not going to make a scene, but seriously? I tore the thing apart in front of my friend and neither of us could find any evidence of the aforementioned sundried tomato. Just say 'sorry about that' and take it off the damn bill.

Please, someone help me. Early morning weekday breakfast.  Help. Sometimes I just want to meet a friend for an early weekday breakfast rather than making it and Seb's is the only place in a huge radius that seems to serve food before 9am.

Seb's is the busiest place that no one has ever heard of, I swear. It's also my favourite go-to brunch place in VanCity.  I've had standard breakfast fare, as well as some of their more 'lunch' type offerings, and haven't been disappointed yet. There is plenty of street parking, too, which is always awesome to find and is a nice change from the more traditional brunch joints along the Drive or in Kits.

Pros - awesome food, friendly service, and turkey sausages that are little explosions of awesome in your mouth.
Cons - they aren't open for dinner, and the line up can get really long, which means you are waiting outside in the rain.

I go past this place every day on the way to work.  A friend went and tried it out, thought it was good and when I was in search of some breakfast one Sunday morning, I decided to give it a try.  I didn't encounter any service problems.  Everything was done promptly.  The only thing was maybe there was some miscommunication between the servers - we got asked things twice.

I ordered the smoked salmon benny.  It was pretty good.  It came with a havarti holladaise (there are two other choices), a side of potatoes and some fruit.  My smoked salmon was cold which made it really awkward to eat.  The rest of the benny was warm and the different temperatures were very noticeable.  My potatoes were over cooked to the point that they were burned on one side - why would you serve that?! I wouldn't even in my house!

My friend ordered just their basic breakfast - 2 eggs, bacon, potatoes and toast.  Nothing spectacular.  The bacon was sort of crispy, sort of limpy.  The potatoes were burnt again.

I was pretty disappointed by the food.  The search for a delicious breakfast place continues...

My first visit to Sebs. I know, I know, Shame on me. Prior to my visit, I was forewarned that there will most likely be a line up and a long one to say the least. Being mentally prepared for this, I made my way over on a long weekend Monday. To my surprise and delight, there were empty tables when we arrived. I guess there must of have been a turnover of tables from the "early" breakfast crowd.

Brunch menu was pretty standard fare. I was torn between the "crab+avocado omlette" and "crab meat benny". I took the advice of our server and opted for the benny. What's interesting about all their egg benedicts is that they have 3 different sauces to choose from instead of your standard hollandaise sauce -"Havarti", "Curry Pineapple", "Chipotle-Wild Berry". And instead of the standard english muffins for your benedict, they use "grilled savory biscuits". Very rich and delicious. We also ordered a side of "turkey sausage" - tasty with a bit more texture than your regular processed meat in a tube.
I would love to go back to try their lunch items.

As we were leaving, I noticed that there was quite a line-up building up. A nice feature of this restaurant is that there is takeout counter just inside the entrance. Nice to be able to grab a cup of coffee while you wait for a table.

Breakfast is served until 4pm everyday. Restaurant does not operate in the evenings for dinner

The BF brought me here for a lunch date, since he forgot to wake me up for hungover breakfast on the weekend. I felt like I was in the movie Home Alone, only with bigger hair. How do you get so wasted that you forget your GF at breakfast? I don't know, but I was willing to let him buy me lunch to make up for it.

We came by in the late afternoon, not realizing that they actually close at 3:30pm until dinner, good thing we got there just before 3, so we weren't those annoying customers that come just as the kitchen is closing. Seb's is pretty cool, it sells some home-made breads and lattes on one side of the store, and on the other you can sit down in the restaurant and chill.

I started with a chai latte, which was okay, it needed more spice and chai to it, but I guess you have to go to a real Indian restaurant for that. I ordered the veggie sammich with a side of the soup du jour, which was butternut squash. The sammy was served on this thick buttery bread, packed full of roasted veggies, it was probably one of the best veggie sammies I have had in Vancouver. The soup was awesome too, instead of being a broth soup, where all the squash has been liquefied, it had chunks of squash in it.

The service was decent, but I can't comment on the bill since it was taken care of. I would definitely check this place out again, its too bad its in such a shitty location, I mean, you got hobos around the corner trading in their empties smelling like last week's bender. Or maybe that was me?

I needed to find a place in Vancouver to accommodate a party of 12 for Sunday Brunch for a reasonable price.  Based on a recommendation from the Yelp newsletter, I decided to give Seb's a call.  And they agreed to reserve a table for us.

And we enjoyed our meal immensely - straight from the fresh squeezed orange juice (plus they have a few other varieties) to our various brunches.  I think we all ordered some sort of a variation on an eggs benedict.  Some ordered the elk medallion benny, whereas I stuck with a vegetarian option.

The highlight of the benedicts at Seb's are the variations on the hollandaise.  I had some sort of a Thai Curry Hollandaise, but i sampled a berry-chipotle Hollandaise that a friend ordered.  It was amazingly delicious.

And I loved how the benedicts weren't too heavy either, as they have a tendency to be.

I appreciate the lack of pretense at Seb's.  And while we couldn't really seem to sort out the billing at the end of the meal, the restaurant was patient enough to work it all out with us - we found a solution.

Seb's gets really crowded on the weekend. One nice thing is that you can order coffee from the counter so at least you can have some caffeine to keep you company while you wait. Seb's has some good benedicts (probably because they use organic eggs), but  I was less impressed with the sablefish.

Seb's also offers catering, hosts private parties and sells kitchen appliances, cookware, and some other food items. Sadly, they close at 4pm daily.

Great food. Shame about the service. I usually give places 3 tries before passing judgement, but the service is SO pathetic, I'll never go back.  Which is a shame.  The food is excellent.  First time there, it took a very long time for the server to ask if we wanted drinks and an additional long wait for her to come take our orders (we were a party of 3).  Once we received our food, it was outstanding which prompted another visit today.  Perhaps the service was just a one off.
It wasn't busy by any stretch of the imagination today when we went.  There were 5 servers on today.  We were seated (party of 2).  It took about 10 minutes just to get a menu.  We waited another 10 minutes before getting up and leaving as nobody had been by to take a drink order.  Completely unacceptable.  The place isn't that big, particularly with that many people on.
It only got the extra star for the food quality.  NEVER AGAIN WILL I GO THERE.

Met a friend for brunch on a wednesday at noon. Cute cozy atmosphere. Fairly busy and was seated quickly. Waited 30 mins before someone took our order which only happened after I flagged down a waitress.  I told her about the delay but wasn't offered an apology. I had the portabello eggs benny. Hands down the worst breakfast I've ever had. Flavorless. The sauce was runny and bland. The potatoes were just ok. Poor service. Poor food. Not a bad atmosphere if you just want a coffee though.

This little cafe located on East Broadway was jam packed on Sunday morning! I spotted a good friend across the room so my bf and I wandered over there to say hello while we were waiting for a table, luckily we discovered a couple vacant seats at the bar so we made ourself at home. The bar overlooked the kitchen and it was a one man show cooking up a storm, i've never seen eggs flipped in the air to achieve a soft over easy effect, wow! This amazing breakfast chef even had a little chat with me, I asked if he was Seb and he said, "No i'm Seb's dad, hes got the day off..... and hes nine". I was thoroughly entertained watching Francois whip out gourmet breakfasts for a packed restaurant in record time and my bf was happily enjoying his view of the football game on the flatscreen. We both had fresh carrot beet juice and I had a delicious coffee (they use JJ Beans). We both had traditional breakfasts, mine with tomatoes and spinach an my bf had bacon. This breakfast was truly awesome, the bread was fresh, fluffy and buttery and Francois serves a little homemade apple cinnamon preserve on the side for spread, YUM! The little fruit salad garnish was a nice touch and they pineapple was so juicy! The turkey sausage looked so good going by on other plates and it is definitely something I will be ordering next time! The seared elk medallion's on biscuits looked good too! They also make pies and cakes and the pumpkin cheesecake is still calling my name!
Even though it took some convincing for my bf to give this place a try (he loves the lions den) he was impressed and wants to come back for lunch to try the Moroccan Spiced Buffalo Burger.
The only reason this place doesn't get 5 stars is because it was kinda pricey and I just can't justify spending $30 on breakfast every weekend, however you are paying for quality....

Seb's is totally over-rated.  The service is terrible.  I went there once for brunch, and my friend was late.  I waited at the bar and the server told me the next table for two would be mine.  However, when it came up, she gave the table away to someone else.  When I asked what was up with that, she said that because my friend wasn't there yet, we'd given up our spot in line.  Hello?!!  I waited half an hour for that table. My friend was there by the time it came up.  What's the problem?

There's lots of great food to be had in Vancouver.  This place isn't worth putting up with the crappy attitude.

If you want to experience attitude, rudeness and genuine idiotic tactics, look no further - Sebs is there for you to provide all of that and then some.

I have lived in the Mount Pleasant area for 8 years. For some reason I never went to Sebs until yesterday. I now know why I was avoiding it.

I came into the restaurant. There was one table for 4 available and 1 seat at the bar where the cooks are. I went to sit down at the table and was immediately told by a server that I would have to sit at the bar. The spot at the bar had less than 1 foot of space. I doubt that my plate and my cup would have fit in this spot.

The server told me it is either the bar or nothing. So I chose the latter of the two - NOTHING! I left the restaurant in complete disgust.

I would have been in the restaurant for 20 minutes to have breakfast but instead I spent my money at another cafe. I would expect something like this in Point Grey or in Kitsilano. I guess there are greedy restaurant people in East Vancouver as well. Now I know.

This restaurant has a very greedy attitude. They turned away my business in hopes of having someone come in to fill up the table.

So just to let everyone know - don't go there if you are by yourself or with one other person. You may get told to sit in a corner and eat your food on your lap. I would recommend not spending a dime at this place. You are better off going hungry or walking up to main street and the attitude doesn't exist there.
