Think every sushi restaurant in Vancouver is the same? This ain't a sushi restaurant, it's a sushi LOUNGE. In fact, it is really a "sushi-lounge-meets-university-bar-meets-insane-po pulist-chef" concept.

The food isn't amazing, but it is indulgent (crunchy crunch rolls! Spicey Mayo Japa-fries!) and relatively cheap. And the beat goes on...and the beat goes on...

The decor is haphazard and frankly confounding. Why is there a neon Marylin Monroe sign at the entrance, and a lowrider bicycle hanging from the ceiling? Why a neon sign advertising "vacuums?" Why one wall covered in records, and why, for goodness' sake, a Canuck goalie life-size polar bear?

Who cares. Just deny all confusion and enjoy it. If you're not here after 10pm and slightly bleery-eyed you probably shouldn't be here at all.

SD Galleria really surprised me. On the second floor of the trendy Main St. Area, this sushi lounge is not quite what I expected. The dining lounge is dark with many tvs and reminded me of The Pit pub at UBC. It has a patio with probably the best view on Main st where you can set the snow capped mountains, buzz on Main st. and especially during this time of year, you'll get a little extra sun.

The food is reasonably priced and surprisingly good. They have many special rolls for $8 each (most special rolls are pricier), their pink tuna roll is very tasty. Everything tasted fresh and was presented nicely. Totally not what I expected.

I really want to give it 4 stars but there are a few things like their confusing decor and neglected beer bottles and empty cigarette boxes on the patio that turned me off. They have many special events and are open late. If you are looking for a loungy, pub like place without the standard pub fare, SD Galleria is the place to go.

VERY well priced sushi and other yummy eats. My wife, who hates sushi, found many other items to munch on. There were 5 of us and we spent a good 4 hours there. What a fun way to spend saturday night! The music was good and the service blew me away. The owner even came over and made us these special shots of sambuca which she lit on fire!

We drank and ate the entire time and our bill (for two of us) was $135. If you saw how much we consumed you'd be very impressed with that price. I highly recommend going here for late night eats and drinks. The nightly drink special is $3!!!

Also the atmosphere is so unique you'll be very entertained.

I found myself at SD with a group to watch a friend DJ and found it quite fun!

It's a bit of a foreign concept to have dinner and listen to a live show at the same time but this would be a great place for some late night drunk eats, especially since the sushi is soooooo cheap you have plenty money left for booze.

I found the service quite slow and when we tried to order drop shots they had run out of shot glasses and also regular glasses, so they ended up bringing us shots in drink glasses and gave us like half as many glasses of "chase/mix" as we had people...so you had to do your shot and then figure out which glass was the chase and share that with 2 or 3 other people...maybe next time just say we can't give you drop shots right now cause that was just weird!

Fairly high score because SD Galleria (formerly Simply Delicious) is affordable. Their sushi portions are average, and the price is cheap and my wallet agrees.

The atmosphere inside is definitely like being in a sports bar that likes playing dubstep/electronic music. Even if you don't like that type of music, it sets the scene, and you get used to it after a while. You'll find your chopsticks tapping along to the beat; however, i's hard to have an intimate conversation there, but if you need a late night sushi fix, SD is open until 1.

Also, you can't beat the 99 cent California rolls if you eat in there!

I will tell you in point form why SD Galleria is my new fave late nite East Van chillout spot:

    -So cheap
-The beats kept me awake and pumped.
-Service is OFF the hook. Note: Our server was wearing the most amazing ring that she made herself. Please buy me one. : )
-asparagus wrapped with beef, bento boxes, deep fried mars bar. Oh yum!
-Funky/casual inviting party den: bicycle hanging from the ceiling, bright record covers, a stage equipped for a band.
-Leopard-print couches. Yeah, I said leopard print.
-On Tuesday night you'll OWN the place.
-I can wear sweatpants!! (GIant bonus)

Ok. So in my post-Tales-Of-The-Cocktail-opening-party-fuzzy-hea d-ness, I can wholeheartedly (though not clear mindedly) recommend this place.

$5.50 for donburi bowl, $5 sashimi plate, $2 sushi rolls, $2 a la carte options make for the ultimate combo meal that will give your friends food envy.

    Do it.

This place is hilarious, you walk in and you're thinking "What kind of Alice-in-wonderland-acid-trip did i just walk into".

The atmosphere and ambience is something that's one of a kind. To define it as an east-meets-west kind of place is selling it short. This place is just so out there, it's ridiculous.

The food is cookie-cutter jap, nothing fancy. Although the layout and customized menu might be a little different to people's taste, it sure does set them apart from other AYCE sushi places out here in Vancouver.

Let me just get back to the decor cuz it's just too crazy to not go on about, they've got records up on their walls, of good beats, pop culture icons like betty boop, transformers... it's just so eclectic and diverse that if you were  to look around the room for a good 5 minutes you'd say to yourself - "Damn! I like that!" or "Damn I remember that!"

Although the food lacks quality, in my humble opinion, the atmosphere and crowd definitely sets a bar for lounges out here in the East Side. Great hang out spot, i definitely recommend it to anyone who might want to just go out there and do something different.

I have to explain this 4-star review.  The food is not 4 stars, it's just average (below on a bad day), but it's dirt cheap.  You can't beat this place for value, and on top of that the beer is $3/can.

Also, this place just continues to get more and more ridiculous.  The menu was expanded this year to include every possible chinese, japanese, and vietnamese cliche dish you can think of.  And just recently they renovated it into a super cheesy loungey nightclub thing.  It used to be vinyl booths with cheesy j-ballads playing over the speakers, and now it's top 40 dance and tiger print chaises, complete with new skimpy outfits for the waitresses.

Classic.  As the 4-star review states, I am definitely a fan.  I hope Simply Delicious is around forever, and starts opening late-night.

If you're looking for cheap, look no further. This place offers california rolls for $2.50, and salad for $1. It definitely exceeds my expectations of how $2 food should taste, but it's not gourmet. One major drawback is the wait - it's tolerable for 4 people or less, but bring a book if you've got a 10-person entourage.
Simply Delicious remains one of my favorite places for very cheap eats.

Up until three years ago, I didn't even know this place existed. I'm going to go ahead and say it's one of the best secrets on Main Street. All they have to lure people in from the streets is a simple window, and a door leading upstairs. Look out for it when you're around between the 26th and 28th block. It's great to grab some typical japanese goodies with a buddy, or ten.

I dragged a lot of my high school friends to this place after school, and would come back almost every day after then. Kind of like a watered down version of Kitsilano's Eatery, there are lots of novelty items on the walls and the menu has most of what The Eatery would have on their menus, sans the huge list of ridiculously named sushi, but for a much lower price. I usually don't spend more than ten bucks. I would recommend trying the bento box, be adventurous and order the larger box.

I'd say the service have upgraded since the new management. The servers engage in conversation and are really mindful. The large restaurant is usually very slow in the day time, and more livelier later in the night because it's one of the few places on Main Street that doesn't close by 6pm in the evening.

The drinks are cheap, cheap, cheap. Perfect for anybody in the neighbourhood looking for a late night drink. The drinks menu isn't fancy but carry all the necessities. The desserts are alright ,as well. I'd recommend the UFO deep-fried mars bar. It's great that they're keeping the famous Wingnuts unique dessert alive.

It was midnight and I thought I'd try out SD because of the cheap prices. When I entered the restaurant it was very chaotic, there was a live band. Oh god, headache. Definitely not my crowd(unless I was shit-faced). To be honest, the vibe was very weird, I wanted to leave immediately, but I was already seated. I ordered 2 special rolls for 8 dollars each. The prices here are like any other sushi place because they raised their prices. The food was surprisingly decent. But still, I would not return.

We went right when it opened at 12pm, outside around the entrance was very with pigeon pop everywhere, they should spend some time cleaning outside and perhaps put up a net to aviod pigeons from pooping in front of the entrance.

As we opened the moldy door, there was a strong scent which smelt like a typical Chinese restaurant washroom. We really hoped the restaurant would smell better but our hopes were down. The restaurant wasn't clean at all, oil stains on every tables and walls. They should definitely do some vacuuming, dusting, and better dish washing. We tried to ignore the horrible smell, it didn't smell delicious. It was pretty empty.. we were the only ones but couldn't turn back and leave.

    Our order:
    - fresh oysters ( small) $4
    - salmon sashimi $6
    - california roll $2
    - salmon roll $2
    - scallop roll $2
    - prawn tempura $5

The fresh oysters came first and it looked nothing like the picture, the picture listed 3 but the young man gave me 2. They were small and honestly, I can go to an authentic Japanese restaurant and buy oysters per 0.99 cent a peice for a better/satisfieid experience. This I let go and did not mention to the waiter.

They squirted lemon juice on our salmon sashimi which was odd, we didn't like that. The sashimi were small but you get for the price you pay.

California rolls were hard and dry, the salmon rolls came in very small portion, and the scallop tasted odd.. slimmy with a fishy after taste.

The prawn tempura came in decent sizes we thought until we took a bite, it was mostly batter. Two inches of batter, as we were working on the last tempura, we realized one prawn wasn't even a prawn.. it was a yam that looked like a prawn. We quickly asked the waiter "Why is there a yam in our prawn tempura?" his only best cover up was "....every tempura plate comes with one piece of yam, is that okay?". In my head I was just thinking "we ordered prawns FOR A REASON". Nice cover-up, this restaurant is definitely a rip off especially if you have tried many AUTHENTIC Japanese restaurants. This restaurant will have no match agaisnt those because 1) it's not authentic 2) restaurants that sell more than 1-2 ethnicity of food isn't usually good.

Bill came out to be $18, we probably ate half of the food only.
The service overall was horrible, only one waiter. It is a Vietnamese family owned restaurant and if I were to compare it to another Vietnamese japanese restaurant such as Samurai Sushi on Cambie, this restaurant should go out of business.

I LOVE SD. It's kind of a less wild and less crowded Eatery and in a more central location (in my opinion, of course). It's SO cheap I had to read the menu twice- and then proceed to order ten of everything ;)
Seriously, $2 california rolls, $3 dynamite rolls and I think the sashimi is $3 as well. Hello, can you beat that? And the quality is really good. I've never had a complaint here before.
The drink specials are good, too. I've never tried anything out of the box liquor wise but $4 vodka and sprite's are good with me. Especially because i'll be having at least 4.
I'd suggest coming on a weekend night at 7-9 when the crowds are there. It's a big space and if it's empty it feels a little lonely. They have a cool set up and this is the place to go with a big group pre-party or nightclub.
Don't hesitate if you're in the area. This weekend seriously, get moving to SD and maybe have a round of karaoke?
May the force be with you!

Uhhh errrmmm....Yes I'm a person who loves to get more for less but I don't mind splurging on food if it's delicious and YUMMY!  Well....we went here for our first visit a few days ago based on a recommendation from a friend because of the good prices here.  We didn't really know what to expect except to be ready for the great menu with cheap prices.  That made me excited.  Good food with cheap prices?!

Well when we first walked in I thought to myself okay so far not so bad.  There were stairs leading up to the restaurant so I thought of it as a bit of exercise to get me more hungry which I don't mind haha.   The vibe I got from the restaurant as soon as I walked in was stay away from this place!!!  We were there around 6pm and the place was next to empty.  It makes you a little nervous thinking there must be something wrong.  We sat down in a big booth which was nice since there was only 2 of us and usually restaurants wouldn't give away their booths to groups of 2 or less.  The prices were actually not that bad at all.  I thought they were actually fantastic! We ordered a whole bunch of $2 grilled items and other $3-$5 items thinking we were going to be STUFFED.  We asked the waitress how large the $2 items were and she said "oh for that you should get about 8 pcs and that should be about 6 pcs" and so on.  When the first few dishes came out I was about to slap them in the face.  The reason was all the portions that the waitress said we would get was a lie.  We actually got half of what we were apparently supposed to get.  Yes I understand the dish was only $2 but for $2 you would expect more than just a piece of green onion and 1 chicken heart on a skewer.  Their sushi was not very good and the selection is small too. The prices look very appealing but when the dishes come out you'll be very disappointed.  We had to eat about $45 worth of food to be full.  The udon was not good as they just put noodles into their miso soup.  The seafood in it SUCKS!...actually most of the foods we ate was not good.  The quality and prices don't match.  They had beers for $3.50 a pint but there were only 2 options.  At least we were able to enjoy that...because they didn't make it!

I would probably not return but it was definitely a unique experience.  It looks like a pub but it serves japanese food.  Maybe it used to be a pub and they didn't renovate because they wanted to try something different?  Well it's not quite working because it feels like they are trying to be different by mixing in many different styles but it just confuses people.  Their decor is made up of random pictures, statues, comics and other things.  The whole restaurant was a whole big mix of STUFF.  It felt messy and disorganized.  It didn't feel like they cared when they started decorating the place because it makes you feel like they were a bit lazy.

They need to improve the quality of their foods and also get more training on how to make food.  They should clean up the decor and come up with a theme or something.  It would be less of a headache for customers who are trying to figure out what the heck they are trying to accomplish.  I like their unique menu style though.  Please learn how to make yummier food and I'd return for sure!

I've been coming here for years and have always enjoyed it. This is the best place for some cheap eats, especially late at night. They have a great menu with many options, my favorite is the large bento box! The best part is that they have CHEAP drinks!! I've also noticed that the service has improved since they redecorated. Keep up the good work SD Galleria!

I just discovered this place in the springtime. I like it a lot, the food is tasty, cheap as hell and they have really good daily drink specials. Some nights they have parties and karaoke, but whenever I've gone it's just been regular dining. The waitresses are polite, friendly and the service is quick. Go here if you're in the neighbourhood!

i chose this adventure because it was a place on main that didn't close at 1am.  also, Edmund L. gave this place 5 stars.
SDG looks like a nice place to chill out and kick back a few.  the surroundings totally look like some collection that came out of some guy's bedroom -comic books, action figures, and classic hardhouse records!

cheap beer and cheap sushi but the thing that KILLED this place was the quality of the sushi.  i had scallop tataki and salmon carpaccio.  frozen scallops, and fishy salmon.
while the service was nice, i wasn't notified about last call -but i guess that was a good thing heh.

i love how it's open 'till 2am, the drinks are cheap, lcd screens for tv, outdoor smoke pit, and the music's fine.  i just wished they do a better job with the food.

Ended up here on a weekend, needless to say it was no surprise that business seems to have taken a downturn.  And although it was quite quiet, the service still sucked.

I looked and looked everywhere and couldn't see my server, she was sitting down with a customer eating.  Meanwhile, I had dirty plates all over my table and an empty drink sitting in front of me.

I have NO problems with servers taking breaks, I'm not even so rigid that I think they have to eat in the back.  But, for god's sake, make sure someone is looking after your tables if you are not able to.

If their sushi wasn't so cheap I would have NO reason to come here.  Honestly, I usually end up here at the behest of my friends.  Even with cheap sushi, the irritation of being ignored/forgotten is worth spending the extra money somewhere else.

What happened to Simply Delicious!? Or should I say "SD Galleria" as it says on their new daily drink specials menu. It's usually pretty quiet at Simply Delicious, but on Monday night they were pumping some good House music. Drink special's(different daily) are $3.50 highballs and $3 beers everyday! Monday's special was Redbull & Vodka. I would have partaken, but who drinks on a Monday night? This one should be switched to Friday night! The food is pretty much the same with a small price hike, but everything is still super CHEAP! I like the large bento box($8.50) with chicken teriyaki, salad, rice and 3 items of your choice. There's definitely a cheesy, loungey/gallery thing going on with Justin Bua and Van Gogh paintings, turntables and mixer for a DJ, and vinyl records gracing the whole top of the wall behind DJ setup. Love the tiger print chaises!!!!! If you've been to SD before, this is a 100% improvement! Service before the reno's was very poor! The server's weren't very nice and you were lucky if your water was refilled at all. Not so anymore, my water stayed full, the waitress was really sweet, and I was even asked if I wanted any dessert after my meal. What?! They serve dessert now too?! SD put in some extra effort and it shows! Keep up the good work! *4 Stars*
