I don't have a sophisticated palate for "fro-yo". The only thing I can really comment on is sweetness, and Scoop's plain is not too sweet - ok. The self-serve toppings seem pretty standard, but not as many selections compared to Qoola.

The big draw here is that they have a few board games and a foosball table!!!! Perfect for spending a couple hours just hanging out. Though the board games could use an overhaul - looking ragged, pieces missing, and some additions maybe?!

    i could be pinkberry-biased (or yogurtland-biased)...

i probably am. but there were a couple of things i had issues with:
    1. the plain frozen yogurt was blended with syrup in front of us, so it was more of a smoothie texture, as opposed to a frozen yogurt texture;
    2. all i could taste was syrup. i had the green tea flavour. but it was much too strong and much too sweet; and
    3. because the yogurt was more of a puree, once i added my toppings, proceeded to pay and sit down to eat, my crunchy toppings were now soggy and not so crunchy anymore.

    redeeming qualities:
    1. the place was cute and had some character. they also have tonnes of board games set aside so you can play as well, if you so wish;
    2. it was super clean. even the area where we get to spoon the toppings ourselves;
    3. and the homemade mochi was awesome (even though it turned soggy as well).

I needed this! After sampling the delights of Yogen Fruz for the first time ever the day before, I was in Kitsilano, and thought I better try here. I arrived a little before it opened, staring in through the windows, completely soaked, and probably a little crazy (at the thought of frozen yoghurt!!).

I got the plain, but tangy version, with strawberry pieces and granola. I was in heaven!!! I sat by the window, and focused on nothing but my sweet treat - dinosaurs could have been walking past outside and I wouldn't have noticed. This food was all the right mixes, and low in calories? My mind can still not comprehend.

Yeah it was  a little pricey, but I'm not here too often, so why not? :)

Yummy for a summer day on your way to Kits beach, or if you have time to spare to play from their selection of board games as you nom at the frozen yog! The best is to order whichever size you please of their plain fro yo, then load it up with their toppings (cereal, malteesers, cookie chunks, gummies, strawbs, mango, lychee...), maybe a sauce (cherry, dulce de leche, dark chocolate...) and enjoy! They weigh it once before toppings and again at the end, and that's how you're charged. It ends up being usually over 4$, but that's totally ok by me. They have a stamp card as well if that is of interest to you avid frozen yog lovers.
Great stop on the way to the beach on a warm sunny day!

Scoop offers several flavours of frozen yogurt: original (not too sweet, slightly tangy), as well other flavours (for an additional price) such as chocolate and green tea. You either order a small or a large, which is then weighed, and add your own toppings. Then your yogurt is weighed again and you pay. If you add a ton of toppings, beware that your yogurt will be kind of pricey (like mine was). I stuck with fruit toppings and ignored the candy toppings - the mango was delicious and reminded me of a Mango Crushed Ice from the Richmond Night Market. Overall my yogurt was pretty good. I've had better, but I've also had worse.

What makes Scoop extra fun is the game selection at the back of the store - you can play Foosball with your friends (Foosball while hopped up on sugar is extra awesome) and board games as well. It reminded me a lot of some of the shops I used to frequent in Montreal - definitely aimed at the college crowd. Great for groups of friends.

One of the first places that I discovered Frozen Yogurt... To be honest, without this place I might not have loved Fro Yo so much... I first came to this place when it first opened many years ago before I was at UBC.

My first visit here is always memorable... The staff that worked there was a 2nd year UBC student, and I was a first year student. We met, and she was amazing. She was very attentive with me and my friends and we talked a lot, even though the establishment was quiet and there wasn't anyone inside. We just hung out there in the corner and talked all night until she closed the store. She was extremely nice. After that, after every exam, or when I feel FroYo on the way home I would take the West 4th Bus just to go to this place for Frozen Yogurt.

This place has memories of the frozen yogurt that has been made and that gave me the little spark in me to keep on studying at UBC. I can not say anything bad about this place except that in the summer it gets loud and VERY popular...  But it is still filled with UBC students at night and it is a very great place right after dinner to hang out with friends!

Forever this place will be my favourite place for Fro Yo forever.

This summer is the summer of frozen yogurt for me, and this place is definitely a favourite new haunt of mine!

I've stopped here several times, as I work right around the corner. People, having a place with chocolate hazelnut flavoured fro-yo within spitting distance from my place of employment is dangerous. Seriously. My love handles are not pleased with all the calories I'm consuming, low fat or not!

It's a cute little place, right on the prime area of West 4th. It's got a foosball table, board games and even free wifi.

My only teensy complaint is that it's a tad more expensive then some other comparable fro-yo places in town, and there is no outdoor seating. A table or two outside would be nice, Scoop!

I was tempted to give this place one star, but I decided to cut them a little slack because they have house-made mochi (and that is truly this places only saving grace).

The whole idea here is that you choose a frozen yogurt flavor, add toppings as you like, and then pay by weight. That would be fine if the price was anything close to reasonable and the yogurt was anything close to yummy. It's not, and it is NOT.

Firstly, if you order anything other than the 'Plain' flavor, your yogurt comes BLENDED with a flavor. For example-- if you order an chocolate fro-yo, it doesn't come out of the machine as a chocolate fro-yo.. They take the plain flavor, and then mix it in a blender-type contraction with chocolate flavoring. The result in pureed/bledned, melty, chocolate FLAVORED frozen yogurt. So, so, so inexplicably lame.

The toppings are average. As mentioned, they DO have house-made mochi which is pretty great. Everything else is fairly standard issue. Some fruit, some candy. All of it WAY over priced.

I ended up with about 1/2 a cup worth of bitter, blended, chocolate-flavored frozen yogurt, with 1/3rd of a cup worth of toppings...So a total of less than 1 cups worth of dessert... My total price was pushing $5.

    Meh.

    Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Their topping selection is a minimal, as is their flavors of yogurt. I would recommend their matcha (green tea) yogurt. It is quite expensive. Vancouver really needs more frozen yogurt places...so stoked for Menchies to open up on Cambie.

Like Pinkberry and other fro-yo places, Scoop serves up frozen yogurt and then you have your options of adding your own toppings.

I got the coconut flavoured yogurt and added some homemade mochi, mango, strawberry, toffee bits, and condensed milk and caramel. A medium sized cup ended up costing around $5.

The coconut flavour was subtle, and the mochi added to it tasted so good!

There's board games, magazines, and even a foosball table for your enjoyment. A great place to grab some yogurt while you're in Kits, or gather a group and hang out for a bit!

I love this place! I come here all year round. Their yogourt isn't too sweet and has this nice lemon taste to it. I've been coming here since they've opened and their service has never failed me.  Instead, they have more flavours, more toppings and even more games to play! Super nice staff, awesome yogurt, great hang out place.

Janet likes her frozen yogurt smooth and creamy and bursting with flavor. We stopped at Scoop one afternoon when she was really craving a fro-yo, and boy did we regret it!

This "frozen yogurt" (if you can even call it as such), was icy and flavorless. The texture and flavor were reminiscent of an outdated popsicle. If you're absolutely craving a fro yo here (because there are hardly any good places in Vancouver), Earl recommends you at least don't choose a blended flavor. Mango topping was good though.

    Sincerely,
    Earl and Janet

Is $6 for a cup of plain frozen yogurt with a few toppings at Scoop worth it? Nope.

`Maybe it is because the sales volume isn't that high in January but I found the yogurt over-frozen and stiff.  The topping selection was  lacking - the only fruit topping choices were some  yellow coloured canned fruit, dried cranberries and fresh strawberries. The other toppings were really quite boring and predictable. For .93/50g I really expect something more special than gummy bears and m&m's.

My gold standard for frozen yogurt is Pinkberry and Scoop has neither the sweet tang nor the gourmet topping selection to even make it a competition.

$6.50 for a 'large' frozen yogurt that tasted like sugery water? No thanks. What a rip too. I ordered the Chocolate hazelnut, not realizing that they had to blend these flavours in. I couldn't even taste it anyway and they charged me extra for it. Then i got some skimpy toppings which seemed to add $2 to my bills. Seriously not impressed. As soon as i tasted it i knew that it was no good but i didn't take it back.

I was pretty happy with the frozen yogurt here. I liked the original flavour a lot. The combination of tart and sweet was spot on, in my opinion. The overall concept of Scoop is fun too. I agree with other reviewers that I'm not sure how well all of the toppings work with frozen yogurt.

I went with all fruit toppings on mine. Contrary to being boring, this was a really good match (I think). Mango, strawberry, blueberry and kiwi were in mine, each adding their own flavours, their own tartness and sweetness. It was a cold, refreshing treat for after dinner. If I lived in Vancouver, I'd return.

    Oh Scoop.

You're as close as it gets to Yogurtland in Califormia.  When my guy surprised me by bringing me to your place for my birthday dessert, I was skeptical but did a 180 after I tasted your tart sweet goodness.  And since it was my bday, I didn't mind that my large froyo was $6 with a handful of toppings.

But since I AM used to eating something comparable for only 30 cents an ounce, it's hard to give 5 stars...

When Groupon offered your goodness for half price, I bought as many as I could!  Also, I noticed that there's a 50% off coupon in the Entertainment book.  But when I've used up all my coupons, it's gonna be a bit pricey again... unless more people discover you and maybe through tonnes o' customers, and a lower margin, I can come eat froyo EVERYDAY!!!  That would be great!  But in the meantime, I understand.  I hope you guys do well!

Yes - this is where I feel like a kid again! Salvation from the heat while sitting in the back of this shop, amusing myself with board games and fooseball, and a healthy heaping of froyo, plus all of the candy-to-fruit toppings I could imagine -- say it is so! And it is!

From chocolate bits to candy gummies and fruits of every kind - there's something for everyone at this gluttony bar. I love that you can be as health conscious or oblivious as you want, all the while knowing that at least the base of your treat is somewhat good for you!

Weighing in what you scooped, now that's all part of the fun! Although, I also think it would be nice to know how much you've scooped before you pay...then again, what would you do? Remove the strawberry sauce you've been dousing your dessert in? I think not!

One question remains for me though - how do you choose what tastes good together? I wish their was a pairing bar here!

Scoop is pretty good and I stop by when I'm in the 'hood, but it could be so much more!

Their schtick is: you choose a size of yogurt. If you get a flavored yogurt (gotta be green tea), they mash it up in some kinda blending machine. Then, they weigh it and hand it over to you for a run down the toppings bar. Then they weigh it again at the till and charge you for the difference at the toppings rate.

I think, in the global froyo landscape, Scoop tries to split the difference between Yogurtland (self-dispensed froyo in a dozen flavors and a giant toppings bar; pay for the entire cup at a single rate) and Pinkberry (premium prices, premium toppings) and I wish I could say they're better than either. Here, a lot of the toppings look kind of wan -- the gummy, extruded-looking canned lychee in syrup, for instance -- but you end up paying upscale prices, and the range of options is kinda limited. (Like, where's the red bean!? They've even got green tea yogurt, lychee, mochi, and condensed milk! It seems like an odd omission.) I think Ysabelle also nails how a lot of the toppings don't seem to have much to do with complementing the flavors of the yogurt. Like, strawberry cream wafers? Huh. Stick to the fresh-looking fruit and you should be fine, though.

Scoop's real win in the froyo wars might just be surviving in Vancouver. The Blueberry World near my place just got boarded up, sniff (not that it was very good). It'll probably keep my business, but I wish it were a bit more exciting!

Scoop is a sweet little frozen yogurt place in Kits that is perfect for any frozen-yogurt related craving.  You basically get a plain frozen yogurt then your selection of about 12-16 toppings ranging from malt balls (blah) and fresh fruit to reese's pieces (yippy!) and strawberry/caramel sauce or hot fudge.

If you're there for a while you can also take a stab at some of their board games they have available for you to play.  One of these games is Uno-Jenga.  I wouldn't recommend it though as two out of every three relationships are ruined over Uno-Jenga.  It's a fact.  They did a study on it in Laos.  I think...

Board games not your thing?  They also have a kickass little foozeball/Fuzeball (whatever I don't know the proper spelling of that word) table that you can play as well.

It's cute, decently priced and fun so enjoy it.  Oh and if you're bitching about the price just remember a large latte anywhere else is like $5.00.

Today, Scoop delivers once again. Taste is pretty consistent and the fresh fruits are still enjoyable (minus the tart blueberry).

The only problem is that cost can get out of hand fast as my large basic $4.50 cup turned into a $7.00 monster after toppings. A monster, I tell ya!

Service was polite, but they need to step up and make it more enthusiastic in explaining to first-time customers how it works before they even ask that question.

It's a weird uninformed world out there...today a family of four walked off with their two large cups intact at the table because the grandpa complained that their "ice cream" was too sour then questioning the freshness of it. In fact he went on to say they watch out before the health officials come knocking. The lady behind the counter politely said it was "frozen yogurt". I wanted so bad to defend this place and to educate them on what frozen yogurt tastes like, but it's not my place anymore as they abruptly left murmuring, "Let's go back to the hotel", without further ruckus. Oh, well. Another day at Scoop.

I really want to give this place 5 stars, I really do.

Their original flavour of yogurt is not what I'm used to in being too tart and pretty gross, but theirs is sweeter and lets you enjoy your toppings more. They have a wide variety of toppings to choose from, but they can get really expensive really fast, and this place knows it. They take the weight before you add toppings and then after and even if you forgot to add sprinkles, they will re-weigh it.

They also have a games room in the back with a foosball table and various board games, which is what really made me want to give this place five stars, but because they're a bit stingy and didn't let me try and yogurt flavours except for original (seriously?!), I can't.

But I will definitely be back to have some lovely frozen yogurt and to beat my boyfriend's butt in foosball again ;)

I agree with the other reviews.  The toppings I had didn't really add on to the cost much, but I didn't overload mine.

The only thing is that the base frozen yogurt comes in just the one flavor that I saw.  To add the extra flavors, you add toppings.

My boyfriend and I checked out this place during the first hot day of June -- the first day I could properly use the Groupon I had purchased like a month ago.  We bought a large original yogurt and split it between the two of us while we walked around the city.

We love the original yogurt.  Haven't tried the other flavours, but the plain is tart with a cool, sweet finish.  For that alone I'd give it 3 stars -- hard to find good-tasting plain yogurt in this city.

But then you move into the topping situation.  I have a few favourites: the cocoa krispies, the pomegranates, the dark chocolate.  But beyond that, everything else is a bit questionable, or boring.  There are standard toppings, like candies, and then there are the obvious fruit toppings, but it's all kind of boring and uninspired.  I think the main problem here is that very few of the toppings actually complement the flavour of the plain yogurt, and so everything there is an afterthought, rather than an accompaniment.  These would work better with ice cream, not yogurt.

Then when you get to the sauce situation, everything turns into a disaster.  The dark chocolate is very powerful and easily overwhelms those who apply it with a heavy hand (like me).  The strawberry tastes like watered-down jam.  You get the idea.

However, for those who don't overload their yogurt (so that it becomes too costly), Scoop is a great place to go for some quality yogurt with not-bad toppings.

And do yourself a favour: If it's a hot day, don't stay in the store, which is small and stifling, but walk around the neighbourhood, maybe venture down to Kits beach and ogle all of the attractive people attractively sunning themselves by the water.  As for us, we finished our yogurt browsing through Zulu records.

Scoop is a new venture on 4th Avenue in Vancouver's cool Kitsilano hood. I went in to check it out this past weekend, having passed by it many times on my way to and from work and running errands.

With a few wooden tables set up, there's not much seating to enjoy your $3.50 scoop of frozen yogurt, but the idea may very well be to take your order away and stroll along 4th Avenue or walk down to Kits beach to enjoy the scene there.

With only one flavour of yogurt available, Scoop offers variety only in the toppings that you get to choose from after you've been handed your cup (however, you must pay an extra $1.85 per 100 grams of topping). And the toppings certainly run the gamut -- from fruit (fresh blueberries, chopped mangos, lychee jelly, etc.) to candy (lots of chocolate bits) to sprinkles (including the healthier choice of granola) to syrups (butterscotch, caramel, strawberry, etc.), you can really customize your order to suit your fave accouterments.

It's a fun idea, although I'd enjoy a few more flavours of yogurt to choose from myself.

First thing I saw when I walked in was the sign of instructions for the frozen yogurt bar, which was very helpful couz it was my first time here. There was a bit of a crowd, so the lineup was REALLY slow! :( Once we got our yogurt, we went to choose our toppings and pay at the cashier. Honestly, the the yogurt was really pricey (you'd probably end up paying $5-$6, depending on how much toppings you chose). I ended up paying $4.95 for a cup (size small) of mango yogurt with a few pieces of kiwi sprinkled on top. However, it was really tasty, the portions were pretty big, and they had a lot of choice in toppings (blueberries, chocolate chips, kiwi, strawberry wafers, sprinkles, mango, and even cereal!). The summery ambiance was suitable for the hot weather, and they even had some board games and a foos ball table for some entertainment. I've got mixed feelings about "Scoop!" but I think I'll come back and give this place one more try.

This is a very nifty little dessert frozen yogurt place! There are specific steps involved in ordering here.

    1. you pick your size
    2. they put some plain frozen yogurt in whichever size you choose and weigh it
    3. you put on which ever toppings you want from their topping bar (choose from fresh seasonal fruit to chocolate to gummy candies to nuts - you name it!)
    4. they weigh your cup of yogurt at the end
    5. they charge you by the difference in weight

It's a very cool idea - although it tends to get a little expensive! (ie. 2 small frozen yogurts for $10!!)... but its great for that occasional treat!

Note to self: They only accept cash! So be prepared!

I've been to scoop a couple of times because I find that it's a better health alternative than ice cream HOWEVER.. the toppings are not so healthy.. Even the fresh fruit is sweetened ( it comes out of a  syrupy base bowl behind the counter)
I find that the base yoghurt tastes great.. After all it is a frozen yoghurt store, if you don't want it to taste like yoghurt get TCBY.
As other mentioned, you gotta control yourself with the toppings because it can get outta hand!
Btw, If you like frozen yogurt, Islad Farms has a great line of flavoured frozen yogurts!! yay!

Best frozen yogurt I've ever tried, it's addictive! It has a tangy taste, different from others I've tried. I got the mango mochi with it, it was amazing. I will definitely be back. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because I think it's a bit pricey. It's not going to stop me though, I had one last night and I just checked their hours because I woke up craving one this morning!

I ordered the berry cheesecake, but the cheesecake bits didn't taste like cheesecake at all but instead just chewy bits of ... something. But my girlfriend was happy, but not blown away, with what she got and the service was friendly.

As a frozen yogurt lover, I find Scoop is much too sweet. Maybe this is just a personal preference, but somehow I find tartness brings out the freshness that a cup of frozen yogurt promises. Especially in a warm Vancouver weather. The texture, however, is pretty smooth and enjoyable.

Blargh. I came here sold on the reviews and well, I guess I'm not a frozen yogurt fan because I found the taste quite offputting. Oh sure the toppings I put on (yay Cinnamon Toast Crunch!) helped a teeny tiny but, but still got the yogurt taste. Blargh.

For those days when you want to indulge, but not feel guilty about it, hit this spot.  For anyone familiar with Pinkberry, this is Canada's answer to it.  The frozen yogurt is very delicious, creamy and tastes like those rich yogurts.  I like the fact that there is a decoration bar -- to decorate the cup of yogurt you're about to eat.  There are homemade cinnamon crunch and brownie bits, fresh blueberry, strawberry, mango and even a bean paste that is very popular in Asian cultures.  Then you top it all up and weigh it.  Scoop also makes the probiotic yogurt for milkshakes and smoothies.  It's only 100 calories for a small cup and has very little sugar.

This little frozen yogurt joint is a nice break from the usual in that it is fresh and has the possibility of being quite a healthy little dessert snack.  The frozen yogurt comes in only one flavour: yogurt, so it basically serves as a neutral backdrop to all the toppings that you can add to fancy up your dessert.  You can choose from blueberries and mango or m&m's and other candy to add to your creation, and voila! Your yogurt is weighed and you pay by the weight, and walk out happy knowing that you are eating real food and not processed dessert food.  And it's quite yummy, too.
