There is something about the name that just doesn't sit right with me, so it generally isn't on that list of "go to" places. However, every time I end up here I wonder why I don't come more often.
I planned an unplanned get together of staff from work and chose Schanks for the size and the options. About 20 of us showed up and sat together for about the first hour or so, then we started drifting to different parts of the bar.
Some went to bet the ponies, some were playing pool and others checked out the bowling alley. Of course there were a few of us that just focused on the drinking and eating.
The food is bar food, but decent bar food. The drinks are wet and thirst quenching. Overall you will get more for your dollar at Schanks than at some of the other whistle wetter locations in the neighbourhood.
Even with the bad name, I will be back! -

Went in Sunday to watch NFL. & the Flyers/Bruins game This is a sports bar right?
Waitress was pleasant - took 20 min to come see us, but was still a nice gal.
Huge TV was blurry and fuzzy. Side TV's all had NTN or TSN on - hockey game no where to be found.
Moved to another part of the bar. Fuzzy and blurry again on all the TV's. Think rabbit ears 30 years ago type fuzzy.
Food came about 40 min after ordering. Waitress apologized and said next time we come it will be better.
Food was ok (I had wings, she had salad & onion rings). Wings were cold but the other stuff was decent.
No one knew how to put the hockey game on a tv near us. So we left at halftime of the football game.
Sorry Schanks - I've tried you 4 times in 2 years and it's always been the same. Great building, lots of tv's - but that's where it ends. -

I was a bit intimidated when my good friend said she was holding her going-away party at Shanks, since, as you all well know by now, I'm not exactly up on my sports savvy. And just wait until we go bowling all together at the upcoming CMYE. I do a happy dance just for one pin!
But I gotta admit, I had a great time at Shanks. It's a pretty massive place, but our waitress came around much more frequently than I expected. Pub food, but it's good pub food. And of course beer!
Plus, this place has everything. Even if the conversation is boring, you shouldn't be. It's a huge bar, with mini-golf, arcades, billiards, and so the website tells me, theatre rooms. Not too shabby.
If you're going to be hosting a massive party where no one knows each other (I don't know, it might happen), Schanks is the ultimate icebreaker.
Minus one star because of the nice but creepy guy who couldn't take a hint all night. -

We were looking for somewhere to play some foosball and decided to give Schanks a shot.
This place is massive as it has a plethora of TVs: new and modern like flat panels to the ghetto 80's little box hanging on a post.
On a 200" screen is usually the Oiler's if they're playing.
Our waitress was actually pretty good considering how packed it was. Quite personable as well. We ordered the nachos and a coke.
I'd rate it on the same level of West Side Original Joe's: pretty bad, Not enough cheese and kinda dry. It wasn't the best nacho's I've ever eaten at but it passes on the nacho rating. $13 starting with more to top up on extras.
It was pretty cool to sit and watch the hockey game while watching the NBA skills competition right beside it.
Oh, and the foosball table: so-so. Rods were kinda loose. I'd probably recommend going to Gateway Lanes if you want to play some foosball. -

Schanks is great!
If you love sports, you will be in Heaven here.
I have watched numerous hockey games at Schanks and it is always a great time. The atmosphere is great because everyone is there for same reason and everyone has fun! The fans can get pretty crazy but it just adds to the excitement.
Schanks is HUGE! They have more TVs than Best Buy! It's crazy!
I've watched UFC there as well and that was really fun. My only complaint would be that they need more servers on during the busiest times. Service wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either.
If you're not a drinker, the rowdy drunks may get on your nerves (I know they can get on mine) but it's not hard to turn your focus to the big screens and get back into the game/fights.
Schanks is a sports haven. If you haven't been, you should definitely give it a shot! -

Schanks, undeniably, has fun atmosphere - whether you are into sports or not. Whenever I get invited to come here, I know that we are in for a night of fun, finger food, beer, billiards and virtual golf. Schanks is a noisy and happy place. There are big screen TVs on virtually every wall so that avid sports fans never miss a minute of whatever game they are watching. In this sense, Schanks is similar to Brewster's.
I am impressed with how attentive the servers are, even during busy hours. During each visit, our company was never left beer-less and waterless. Food always arrives freshly prepared and hot.
I once left my wallet in Schanks' bathroom (not sure how that happened:), and realized it two hours after we left the place. As we drove back and I rushed in, panting, one of the waitresses handed me my wallet with the big smile! Nothing in it was missing. I am so grateful! -

If you want to head out for a few drinks and some fun, Schanks is a great place with lots of stimuli. The ultimate sports bar, Schanks' has multiple big-screen TVs, pool tables, darts, virtual golf, 10-pin bowling, horse-racing, NTN trivia and a mini-golf course that wraps its way around a central bar area.
I've been here a few times. It's good for groups or an after-work party.
You can even set up your own mini-Olympics, like we did. Play for the next round of beers. The beer's cold and the appies are good. I had the wings and chicken fingers. While they weren't Earth shattering, they were good finger food and bit my hunger.
The bar even sometimes hosts Pro Putts or Three-Ball Pool, and can organize a multi-game event for you and your friends. This is a great idea for an original party your friends will remember, and those who are more into doing things than sitting around at a table talking will be ever grateful to you. I love mini golf and my one complaint about this place - because it's a brilliant idea to have mini-golf inside of a bar - but the course is very poorly maintained. It's got some ripples in the green and is faded and worn-looking. I think they should put a bit of money into fixing it up, cause it's a huge draw. After all, you can't sip on a beer and play a round anywhere else that I know in the city! -

For some reason I did not want to like this place. I have no idea why but I just didn't want to. It totally won me over. It is a place that has a great atmosphere. They have big screen TV's all over the place so no one can miss any part of the game and they also have pool tables.
The service was great also. I didn't expect them to pay much attention to us or anyone for that matter. Most places like this they kind of talk to you at first then forget about you but at Schanks they didn't forget. This is such a fun place and perfect for hockey games.
