Very good, solid collection of international wines and beers; prices are controlled by the government - so they are what they are.  But there is a good range of price points, and the interior is comfortable and almost classy - a surprise for a state-run store.  Helpful and friendly staff.  While many of the grocery stores in Vieux Quebec have a limited selection of wines and beers, if you're "inside the walls", this SAQ is very convenient, being right outside Le Chateau Frontenac.

For those not in the know, SAQ is the state-owned chain of liquor stores in Québec province. I'd have to agree with others who have made the comment that this does not have the feel of a repressive state-owned liquor store at all (such as I have experienced in Norway and in the US), but more just like a regular wine shop, and I did not find the prices to be inflated, for what I bought. We visited a few SAQs on our trip, but this is the one that we spent a lot of money at, thanks to its fairly decent selection as well as its convenient location next to Château Frontenac. I am somewhat embarrassed to admit that we were on a cruise ship, but it's hard not to mention it in this case, because our cruise ship allowed us to bring unlimited wine on board. Therefore we had need to find a good SAQ and stock up before the cruise started. We went one day and bought a case and brought it back to the ship. Then we decided it wasn't enough, so we went back and bought another case. OK it was a little bit of overkill, but we only had 3 bottles left at the end of the cruise, so we weren't too far off. We got a fair selection of French wines, along with a few Italian and a few Canadian. Overall none of them turned out to be outstanding, but none of them were bad, and it was much better than being charged the extortionist markup on the ship for generic American grocery store wines. This SAQ also had a good selection of local Québec liqueurs, ice wine, and ice cider. Personally I don't care much for ice wine or ice cider, but we did buy some Fine Sève (eau de vie of distilled fermented maple syrup), Sortilège (Canadian whisky blended with maple syrup), and Chicoutai (cloudberry liqueur).
