Our room was huge and very well appointed.  The gift basket was exceptionally nice as was the breakfast.  The staff went out of their way to help.  The property is located close enough to downtown to walk.

Highly recommend if you have occasion to travel to or through central California.

This was a http://livingsocial.com stay.  A true deal.

Umm room 424 in the Crafsman building does NOT have a fireplace contrary to what the staff and website said. The room was spacious, neat and clean. The only thing that I really liked about our room was our bathroom! At least the look of it... beautifully crafted tiles.
However, it needs some maintenance work. My honey was taking a shower and the water handle came off. When I got out of the shower, I heard a loud clang-- the piece of metal that was attached to the side of the tub came loose and fell to the floor. I noticed that it was being held by tape! C'mon guys, get this room together!
Breakfast was ok. I made my honey go out on 3 trips to get me breakfast from the cafe and bring it back to our room. Thanks babe!  Eggs were ok, sausage was good and oatmeal tasted good with brown sugar, cinnamon and some honey.
They didn't have a good assortment of breakfast food, which I guess is typical for most B&Bs.
Aside from the faulty bathroom, and no fireplace, we enjoyed our stay.

Breakfast was great, staff were friendly.  Although advertised as a bed & breakfast, the physical facility was more reminiscent of a motel which did not justify the cost.  All of which we were willing to overlook because we spent most of our time with family in the city.

What made the experience less than acceptable was when we left the room for 3 hrs to go on a bike ride.  We returned to find a bracelet which we left in an "unzipped" toiletry bag missing and the bag "zipped".  After literally turning the room upsaide down and inside out for almost 2.5 hours, we promptly informed reception who assured us they would look into it.  When we went for breakfast the next morning, we followed up with the same person but he had forgotten to check with the staff.  With still no news from the inn, we inquired AGAIN the following morning.  The hotel manager denied any knowledge of the incident or it being reported to her staff by her receptionist.  Before offering any help, she promptly informed us that she had implicit trust of her staff of 3 years... basically implying that WE had lost the bracelet.  Consistent with the apathy originally demonstrated to us, we have had no follow up.

Needless to say, we will not be returning.

I was so excited to stay here with my mom for a vacation. the only reason I gave this place a 2 is because of their breakfast and service.  Otherwise, the hotel was dark and our sheets had stain and our DVD player didn't work.
My mom and I were scared to sleep on the sheets so we had to put towels under us.  I was very disappointed with this hotel.  the location was pretty good.

got a Living social coupon for this B&B for which I paid $179 for. While the staff is quite friendly, close to downtown and the room was cute I think I would have been pissed if I had paid full price. In fact, even at what boiled down to $100/night I thought I had paid a bit too much.

The noise level kept me from getting a good nights rest..Noise from the parking lot...noise from a loud mini fridge...noise from the cleaning staff hollaring at one another at 8am. To boot I got a call from the front desk waking me up the first morning I was there asking me to search for a previous guests phone charger. How relaxing.

The bathroom sinks were nice but the shower was dark and had no pressure. There was no tub.The Aveda soaps were a nice touch. The place was in a sea of Best western/Motel 6s. Not very bed and breakfast-y. I felt like the description of this place as a B&B was a stretch. It was really just a fancy motel with limited desk hours.

The gift basket and "chocolates" we recieved was a bottle of Martinellis sparkling grape juice, a bag of chocolate covered pretzels and 4 peices of fudge in saran wrap. On top of that I left a dress there and they charged me $16 to mail it back to SF.

Long story short, if you are going to pay $200/night you can do far better.

Fabulous! Just fabulous. Gorgeous room, king-sized bathroom. Spacious king bed. Working fireplace. DVD rental. Lot of rooms packed into tiny space but not noisy. Delicious breakfast, though they aren't set up to accommodate guests well to eat it. If they don't have the space, should be easier to get food and take it back to room. Perhaps they should have to-go packs ready in case dining room is full. Still, five stars.

Comfortable, clean, convenient, and reasonably priced. Large selection of breakfast food in the cozy dining room. We stayed in the Craftsman building and didn't have noise problems. Liked all the amenities - Aveda soaps, fridge, microwave, and fireplace that turned on with a light switch.

At first glace, this place is very nice! The soaps are high quality, the rooms are clean and with pretty furnishings (I stayed in a room in the Plantation building), but to me, it's the sleeping experience that really determines how great a hotel is. My sleeping experience sucked.

I stayed in a deluxe king room, and the mattress was so hard that I woke up feeling like I had done one intense shoulder workout the day before. I couldn't sleep through the night due to all of the ambient noise. The refrigerator fan was ridiculously loud, and the walls are so thin I could hear the laughter and refrigerator fan noises coming from a neighboring room. One of the nights I was even woken up around 2 AM by someone laughing outside. That's how thin the walls are.

On top of that, the plantation room I was in features plantation shutters only as window coverings. While they seemed charming during the day, they don't block light well, and the floodlight from across the parking lot that comes on at night was pointed right at my room. Trying to find the right spot on the pillow where the floodlight wasn't hitting was pretty annoying.

    Non-room related gripes:
    - Very slow wireless connection
    - Their workout room doesn't open until 10 AM because it makes too much noise for people eating breakfast. I need my morning workout and was actually excited to book here because of this room! Fail

So yes, the place is charming, clean, and has nice staff, but I value my sleep too much to care and will be choosing another location for my next stay.

This is our second time staying here.  It is very cute and charming.  We like how you can walk into town from the hotel.  There is also a trolly to take that picks you up right across the street if walking is not your thing.  It is also nice to be able to rent a movie from the hotel.  The bed and pillows are not amazing but comfortable enough.  The next morning we had their breakfast which included some pastries, hot and cold cereal, bread for toasting, bananas and cuties, and you could order scrambled eggs with or without cheese.  It did the trick.  We like it here and we will probably stay here again.

My boyfriend and I visit SLO a few times a year when we want a mini getaway and to just relax. We have always stayed here because we just love, love, LOVE this place! We've pretty much stayed at every room they have and all the rooms are unique, cozy, spacious and comfortable and the location is great! It's near the freeway and it's just minutes from downtown and those cute little boutiques I love going to!

The staff is also nice and accommodating. And they have a variety of DVD's to choose from if you want to just stay in and cuddle/relax! We've been coming here for the past 4 years and fortunately, we haven't had a problem at all. It is a little pricey but I definitely think it's worth it!  And I agree, the fridge can be annoying but we hardly have leftovers so we just unplug it! So if you want a romantic/mini getaway, then check this place out! =]

Loved our stay here! It's definitely got a more B&B feel, but with all the conveniences of a hotel. Our room was clean and had a huge soaking tub. The bed was amazingly comfortable.

My only complaint is I could hear other room's TVs at all hours. Definitely needs better sound proofing.

The staff was especially friendly and I can't wait to come back!

I've stayed at several hotels in San Luis Obispo over the past 10 years, thankfully I learned about the San Luis Creek Lodge.  If you want a pool, bath tub and all the hype the chain hotels offer then go to the Embassy Suites.  If you are tired of big business and piped in music in the elevator with 24 hour service, this is the place for you.

The online or telephone reservations is easy and the staff are pleasant, friendly and very hospitable.  The furnishings are well designed, clean and comfortable.  I'm always intrigued with each room's unique design.  I've stayed in the Londonderry and the Craftsman buildings and will one day stay at the Plantation.

This place is very personable and the staff seems genuinely interested in making your stay comfortable.  It seems like this is a family run business because some of staff could easily be a neighbor that you've known for awhile.  There is even the young man that is the Philosphy major.  I love the feel of the college environment where they share stories about other college students and parents visiting.  It's very conveniently located to downtown and to CalPoly.  The breakfast consists of scrambled eggs, fruit, cereal, oatmeal, bagels, an assortment of muffins, tea, coffee, cranberry and orange juice, and waffles that you pop in the toaster.

If you're out of town visiting your college student, check this place out; my liberal arts daughter loves it.

Staying here, was awesome for Valentines day. When we checked in we received complimentary chocolates and a bottle of sparkling cider. My boyfriend and I stayed in the Londonberry and the theme was great and the fireplace was such a nice touch. They provide DirecTV which made it that much more relaxing to hang out in the room all day, since there are plenty of channels. For breakfast they have the usual scrambled eggs, pastries, oj, coffee, and milk. We will for sure come back!

It's tough to come from a large city and staying at full-service 24-hour hotels and visit B&B type establishments that have limited front desk hours.  Mind you, we had no issues with service or anything, but I can see how the limited hours *could* be an issue that sneaks up on you.  They do have an after-hour number you can call if you arrive after 10pm, or if you need something that late at night.

We made our reservation online, which was easy to do.  On the day of our arrival, the lady from the lodge called us and left a voicemail saying that she would be leaving an hour earlier than normal (at 9pm) because of allergies.  Luckily we made it in at 8:30pm, or else I wouldn't have been happy to have to drag out our day that much longer waiting for someone to come help us.

Check-in was quick, and the nice lady upgraded us into a larger room with a fireplace. At the front desk, there's also quite a collection of DVDs you can take to your room.  I'm glad that even we were at a B&B-type place, they had cardkeys for the doors.

We stayed in the Oxford Room in the Londonderry building.  It was quite spacious with a king four-poster bed.  The furnishings made it feel like a guestroom in someone's house.  The rooms are provided with a microwave, coffeemaker, and flatscreen tv with DirecTV.  The fireplace actually made for a great heat source at night.

The bathroom was likewise spacious, with his/her sinks and a large shower.  My one comment is that I wished they had put in a tub instead of putting in just the shower stall.  Also, a bigger showerhead would have been nice, and it seemed that the hot water was starting to run out.

Location wise, you have instant access to the 101, and you're a very short drive from the main drag of SLO (we're in California... who drives anyway?!).  The sign was actually hard to spot at night, so look for the Sands across the street.

Overall, I liked it a lot and would definitely come back.  We felt like we were welcomed into somebody's home the moment we arrived.

I was in SLO for business and was excited to be staying in a local and unique place rather than another chain hotel. For the most part, this is a very cute place with friendly staff and a good breakfast. They even have cookies when you check in. The room was nice with homey touches and local artwork.

Here's where things turn. I don't care how nice a room is; if I can't sleep because of noise, it's not a place to which I will return. The walls were thin enough that I could hear my neighbor's TV well into the night. This kept me up most of the night. When I finally fell asleep, I kept being woken up by the refridgerator's fan going off and on. Being too tired to get up and unplug it, I did not have a very good night's sleep.

Perhaps if they did a better job insulating, I might return.

Great place to stay, well located, and  most definitely the best of the bunch on that particular road.

What ledme to this place was a really strange review on TripAdvisor about a noisy couple who stayed here on their honeymoon - go find it if you can...what I got out of that review was that the staff was very thoughtful and professional.

Sure enough, I was right. The room istelf was a tad small, but was very quiet, and staff was very friendly.  Bed was comfortable...thank you for providing a microwave oven and REAL spoons....also, Aveda products were provided...nice touch.

    We're definitely coming back.

Had a very nice and relaxing stay here.  Given all of the other Motel-6-like places on this drag, it was nice to find this place and its B&B charm.

The front desk woman was extremely pleasant to deal with -- friendly, efficient, and she provided good information.  All while juggling multiple customers.

Assuming there is availability, I'd definitely like to stay here again when in town for business.

Built in 2000 with recent renovations, San Luis Creek Lodge appears to be the newer kid on the Monterey St. block of hotels.  It has charm of 3 different destinations choices for that get-away feel:  Plantation, Craftsman and Londonberry.  We chose the Craftsman - the bricks looked a little foreboding in the Londonberry and I wasn't too keen on staying in a plantation.

Staff was extremely courteous and helpful.  The front desk has DVDs to borrow for your room player/flat screen tv.  The rates appeared better than most of the others in the area.  It is not like a traditional B&B where everything is under 1 roof.  The buildings are a little walk from the main office area where breakfast is served.

I like clean and the rooms were definitely that.  Updated and nothing stinky.  Our room was nicely decorated in the Craftsman style though it did seem like we had TOO much furniture.  It's a fairly big room, but with a king bed, 2 night stands, desk with armchair, dresser, foot bench, reclining chair with ottoman and a rocking chair...it seemed a little excessive.  The electric fireplace was a nice touch.  If you are traveling with child, they do not have cribs to loan.

Great location (not walking distance to downtown), quiet and clean rooms.  Would definitely return.

I will never go back to this hotel. Manger was never rude and I expect more when I stay at a hotel that charges $200.00 per night. My boyfriend had surprised me with this trip to see Willie Nelson at Poza Saloon last weekend. We checked in on Friday and thought the room was cute at first. We walked downtown San Luis for that evening and came back to the room. The next morning I woke up and went to get breakfast. I was shocked because there were no tables in the dinning area so I went back to the room to eat breakfast. I left my plates and a half glass of organge juice. My boyfriend and I went to the concert at Pozo Saloon and did not get back to hotel until 11 pm and we exhausted. We had chairs and coolers to the concert. Driving into the hotel we noticed that there were no parking spaces available. I called the emergency number and was told we would need to park in handicapped parking, which is unacceptable to say the in the least. Handicapped parking is for someone who is unable to walk to their room and I would never take that spot. I told the woman who answered the phone that was not acceptable and she told us we would have to park on the street. The parking on the street was for only two hours. I did not pay two hundred dollars a night to have to move my car every hour. I also expect at two hundred dollars a night I would have a place to park. I was so mad that I had to lug my chairs and cooler from down the street. I woke up the next morning to complain and the lady at front desk was extreamly rude and blamed us for staying out so late! I am going to post this on Yelp and next time I am in San Luis I will stay at the Apple Farm, they are much more accomdating and value their customers. I am sorry I did not just stay  there last weekend.

I selected this lodge for a long weekend getaway. It is positioned off highway 101 about a half-mile walk away from the main downtown area. You can also conveniently get to downtown with a trolley shuttle. I stayed at one of the Craftsman building room, which features a very comfortable king-size bed and clean well appointed bathroom. Wireless internet connection is free and fast. Breakfast, included in the price, is basic but also a good opportunity to meet other guests. The lodge does not feature common areas and lacks a pool, but it is definitely one of the better options as a convenient, comfortable base for a central coast stay.  Recommended.

From the beginning to the end, this place was amazing. The staff at the desk is very friendly and hospitable and seems to genuinely care that you are well taken care of. Upon check-in, there was a pretty big variety of free DVD rentals with some pretty recent titles. There are two ice machines on the property which was a nice perk for those carrying an ice chest in their cars like we were.

My boyfriend and I stayed in the Plantation room 626. The room was beautiful. It came with a California King sized bed, a microwave, a fridge, a coffee maker (with enough coffee for two pots full, hot chocolate, tea, sugar, and creamer!), two hair blow dryers, a magnified mirror, a huge shower big enough for two, and HD directv with HBO. Not to mention free wi-fi.

There are a couple of reasons why I didn't rate this place 5 stars. First, there were noises that sounded like water was draining almost all night long. I'm not sure if it was the air conditioner or the fridge, but it was a bit of a disturbance when you're used to sleeping in silence. Secondly, we were quoted a rate of $169 and signed for a rate of $169, but upon checkout we were surprised with a $20 add-on for taxes. Most people assume there will be taxes on any type of good or service, but it seemed a bit shady that they didn't quote the tax upfront. And $20 seems like a bit much on a $169 room.. 11.8% tax? Lastly, the breakfast in the morning was a bit of a hassle. When we got there a full hour before they stopped serving, we were quickly informed that they had just gotten a big rush and were trying to restock because of it; also, that there was a waitlist that would take longer to wait in than they were going to be open. Our only options were to either sit at a table with another group of people or to take our food to our room. We chose to take our food to our room. The food was cooked to order; I had french toast and my boyfriend had bacon and eggs. There were bagels and fresh fruit, and the best part: Starbucks coffee.

The staff at this bed and breakfast really seem to care about your stay. The few hiccups that happened during our stay wouldn't prevent me from coming back, but they were minor annoyances that should probably be fixed.

I have stayed here twice recently--once in the Londonderry building and once in the Craftsman building.  My next stay I will ask for a room in the Plantation building.  This hotel is a jewel in a town full of dreary budget hotel chains.  The front desk is welcoming and efficient.  The rooms are large, immaculate and show attention to detail.   I could not hear noise from adjoining rooms on either of my stays. In the morning a nice breakfast is served until 9:30 a.m.  This property shows pride of ownership.

My wife and I wanted to take a nice weekend trip to San Luis Obispo and really didn't know where we were going to stay. We both went to college at Cal Poly and are familiar with the area, but never really stayed at any hotels or inns.

When looking at reviews of affordable locations near downtown SLO, we stumbled across the San Luis Creek Lodge and we absolutely loved it. One will definitely get a bed and breakfast experience at less than the cost of staying at a hotel like the Courtyard Marriott just down the street.

The registration desk workers are very polite and helpful and the complimentary made-to-order breakfast is delicious. In addition to coffee cake, cereal, bagels, toast, juice, tea, and starbucks coffee, they have different plates to choose from depending on the day. We had the french toast and scrambled eggs.

They have three unique buildings with separate themes. We stayed in the Newcastle room which included free wi-fi, walk-in shower, fireplace, LCD TV, and refrigerator. There are also DVD movies at the front desk that are available to check out for free during one's stay.

Even though we only stayed one night, the San Luis Creek Lodge was the perfect place for us and it will most likely be the place we stay when we visit SLO again.

We had a lovely time at the San Luis Creek Lodge.  We stayed at the Londonderry.  It was a romantic room with a fireplace and 4 poster bed.  The bathroom was luxurious, a huge shower with Aveda products.  We appreciated the attention to detail everywhere, from the decor and artwork, the refrigerator, nightlight, Starbucks coffee and hot chocolate, to the dvd library for the flat screen tv,  The free breakfast was great too--the sausage omlette was  tasty.  The receptionist gave us some great pointers for restaurants and even made a reservation for us.  We enjoyed a tour of Hearst Castle, wine tasting  in Paso Robles, and a romantic sunset walk at Avila Beach.,  I highly recommend this hotel.  Next time we are going to try the Plantation in the back by the creek,

Outstanding customer service. I didn't get out of Sacramento until way late after work and finally reached San Luis Obispo after 9:00PM. The front desk was in contact with me the whole night and waited until I arrived safely to the hotel. The rooms were adorable and had a very welcoming feel to them. Location is ideal for visiting Cal Poly and or downtown. I would definitely stay here again.

I stayed with my boyfriend for two nights en route to LA.  We arrived a few hours before check in, but our room was ready, and we were able to get in and relax immediately.  We stayed in the Craftsman room 422.  It was nicely appointed and had great furniture and a fireplace.  The room was large with a king sized bed and an octagonal shaped sitting area with many cute decoration details.  My only complaint is that you can not have the closet door open at the same time as the bathroom door.  The entrance is  bit small but once you get into the room, it is great.   It had a large TV, microwave, refrigerator, and a great selection of DVD's to borrow.  Breakfast is included and it was delicious! There was a wide selection of options.  Everything from oatmeal with delicious fruits to mix in to coffee cake to scrambled eggs. I have stayed at a few different places in SLO, and this is my favorite.  I will absolutely come back!
