We've been here a few times, first time for Baleen and decided to take a tour around, second time was for a wedding and third time was our getaway for a weekend.

The resort is absolutely stunning with ample flowers and beautiful landscaping. We were greeted by the valet and check in was a breeze. It lost a star because they automatically charge you for the use of their resort center, which most resorts do, however, they don't take it off when you check out if they find that you didn't use any of their facilities. I know some resorts do that for you, but I was charged extra for a fitness and sports area that we didn't use, so that's why they lost a star.

We got a free breakfast voucher to use at Barefoot and we were directed to go our villa. The villa are side by side with another room and the view is amazing with gorgeous gardens in the area. You are given a parking spot for you to park your car. You have the option of getting a bungalow right on the water as well, which is a nice option to have.

There are pools near many of the villas, but the big one by the lobby is the prettiest with sand and an imitation of the beach, it's also by their wonderful spa. Pricey, but worth it, especially for the Swedish massage.

Room service is a little slow, the concierge is very cordial and can explain everything, including helping you make reservations for dinner. Stop by the gift shop and get your supplies to make smores by the firepit at night. It's a really relaxing and fun experience.

    Hello Tiki!  Hello Brady Bunch!

Once upon a time.... Paradise Point was a Tiki themed Hawaiian styled family resort named "Vacation Village" that catered to families that loved the following:

Believing they had left the continental United States for Hawaii
    Walking to Sea World
Riding kooky 4-man bicycles around a tiny man-made island
    Miniature golf
    Lagoons with dancing waters
    Look out towers
    Sing story bungalos.
    Drinks with umbrellas in them.

This nice thing about Paradise Point is that you call still do all this.  Rooms have been slowly updated to meet Hilton-type expectations, which is not bad.  But unless it is Summer, the pools are either under heated or not heated at all.
THe spa is pretty nice for a hotel, but make your reservations before you get to town, as they book up.

They have raised their prices in the last two years, so you'll have to hunt online for deals or specials.

I totally lucked out on this one. I planned a quick trip to San Diego to for one night to catch up with friends. I decided to go on Priceline (use Priceline carefully, folks, its non-refundable!) and put down a small amount of money and got this place. TOTAL SCORE!
I didn't arrive til later in the night (damn traffic!) and drove onto a road that literally transformed into Poylnesia or somewhere of that sort. The grounds were very tropical and lit up by white lights as it was the week before Christmas. I checked in and the Valet jumped in a golf cart and I drove after him, as he led me to my bungalow on the bay. (again, Thank you Priceline!) I got my own parking spot in front of my room. My friend went into the room first and gasped at how beautiful it was. And the best part was our back door opened up to a patio on the sand!
The room was crisp, comfortable and had a wonderful feel to it. I thought if I paid the best available rate for that night, it would have been over $300.00! Sweet!
I got ready and checked out the Barefoot Bar and Grill with a friend. Beautiful bar literally next to Mission Bay. Like, the dock was 20 steps away. I got on a boat sat there with my beer. It was AWESOME!
I walked around the next day to check out the grounds. It's like your in a tropical community in the 60's. It's kind of got that retro feel to it. I saw lots of families and activities. There was a beautiful lagoon with a bunch of ducks that you could feed. And an old school observatory that you have to climb a million stories to reach the top. But the view is amazing!
I didn't eat at the resort so I can't rate the food. I decided to drive up to Mission Beach and go to a cafe for breakfast and to walk around. The resort is conveniently located close to other restaurants, shops, and beaches to walk around, run, or bike at.
I highly, highly, HIGHLY recommend this resort. And I honestly think I have been here before as a kid. i konw it's been around since the 60's. Even back then I was amazed at how cool the location. I think it is familiy friendly, group friendly, and most definitely a romantic destination too! (Totally a good place for honeymooners!)

If old Walt built Disneyland's "Main Street" based on rosy memories of the 1890s, the same is true of long lost mid-century California encapsulated in Paradise Point. It is a gem which somehow avoided being turned into Starbucks, Nail Salons or Condos, and we are better off for it.

The resort was built in the high style of post-war well Bungalow with lots of space between. The incredible variety of tropical flora, is now mature and rivals Botanical Gardens of Jamaica or Hawaii, and complements the architecture perfectly.  (Have a close look at the complex roof lines, shaped like rolling pacific waves, these sorts of places simply don't get built anymore) It's like a small village based on the Enchanted Tiki Room, without the singing flowers (tho there are plenty of quiet flowers)

The bungalows are available poolside, in thick tropical forest, facing the lake, or right on the water) Private Beaches surround the property, and feature several fire pits, which await evening fun.

If you are into vintage stuff, this is a great place to arrive as I did in a Vintage car, (parking beside each bungalow) creating a tableau of cool times long past, and also comforting as many of the parts of my old car are very difficult to replace. (Staff patrols the place frequently fyi)

There are restaurants on the property, as well as an amazing array of available foods for events from the staff. The sea food is fantastic, and portions quite ample, even the smoked salmon bagel at breakfast is a hefty portion, which I love.

There is a little store which has a pretty good selection and gives a mulligan for those like me who always forget stuff (snacks, sun screen, hat, trunks, sandals...) They also have firewood, kits for s'mores, beer (beer selection could be better) wine and some harder spirits.

There is a lot of work being done on the place...these are clearly upgrades, but our little love-roost had interesting African furniture, was wired and had wifi, and nice flat screen TVs. The bed was fantastic and decor (African) really interesting and fun.

Best of all, like any Vacation spot built in the Golden Era of California, Paradise Point is in a incredible location, only minutes from the air port, Petco, local micro breweries, old town, the gas lamp etc.

If you are planning a getaway, or any event, especially a something if you want a big dose of California, check out Paradise point, it's really worth while

Girls Weekend Away- From the moment we arrived the customer service has been outstanding from the Front Desk (Wesley) to The Spa (Desiree) In particular, Ashley and Regina at the front desk in The Spa took our experience from wonderful to amazing by providing an extra personalized service. They were very attentive and kind. It was clear that they were here to make our experience better. Their intentions were pure and for this, my opinion of this weekend will always be one of rest, relaxation,  and amazing customer service.

I really enjoyed my stays here (been here twice).  It's close to multiple freeways, Phil's BBQ!!!, Mission Beach, Pacific Beach, Ocean Beach, Sea World, and other attractions.

The first time, it was summer weather so it was REALLY great - played tennis, walked on the "beach." We also got a really nice bungalow right by the beach so we didn't have to walk through other bungalows to get there.

Customer service has always been good, and parking is SUPER easy here. The bungalows are also nice and spacious and come with fridges (great for putting Phil's BBQ leftovers in!)

The second time was this December when it was rainy. We had some issues with our water temperature that could not be fixed by the engineer (who we had to call at 11 p.m.).  It took him a while to get there cause there was another job he had to do, but since our water couldn't get fixed we got upgraded.... to one of the Executive Suites close to the entrance of the resort!!  It was HUGE and had hot water so we were very, very happy.

It's also really fun to just walk through the resort, checking out the wildlife (ducks and birds) that congregate in/around the lagoon.  The fitness center is nice and clean (they provide water, towels). The bikes are fun to ride around the island (but cost money to rent).

The only thing I cannot review is the food! I have not eaten on the property yet, but maybe on my next stay I will.

Paradise Point is a true vacation destination if you want to get away from the big hotels and run-down motels with the kidney shaped pools and crowded elevators.  This place is laid out so that you do not feel cramped or confined to your room.  The bungalows are all single story ( I think ) and all have their own nuances and personalities.  It's not Four Seasons luxury or amenities by any means but more of a Hawaiian bungalow feel.  The rooms are almost too big because it seems like there should be more in the room to the point it feels empty.  In reality, it's not a bad thing at all but from a visual standpoint, it does look barren.

The service here has improved over the years in my opinion.  They are a lot more accommodating to the guests trying to make it as comfortable and resort-like as possible.  They will taxi you around anywhere you need to go with their resort carts and even deliver sundries from the gift shop if you ask as well.  The curbside checkout is very convenient and beats standing in line.

There are several firepits around the resort, especially on the private beaches.  You can build your own bonfires with supplies offered at the gift shop.  You can also purchase a S'Mores kit for the kids or for the kids at heart.  Of course you can bring all your own supplies but it's great that it's all available on site.

The spa on site is pretty nice.  We have a few massages here over the years and it never disappoints.   The prices are not outrageous and you can just walk to the main heated pool next door or back to your bungalow right after you're done.

The restaurants here are great.  Not too fancy but awesome views.  The food is decent and would record a higher than average rating in my culinary opinion.  Baleen is a little more fancier than Barefoot Bar & Grill.  Barefoot though has a nice resort feel to it.  1/2 the restaurant is outside and they provide music and heat lamps along with a waterfall and an awesome views of the bay.

All in all, this is a great place for couples or families that enjoy walking around and not having to deal with the hubbub of the crazy city life.  It's a definite staycation if you live in SD.  If you are from elsewhere, it's definitely a different type of stay if you're used to the Hotel Circle inns or the Airport hotels.  I love to stay here since Sea World is right across the way and a ton of little Mexican hole-in-the-wall joints towards Ocean Beach which is super close as well.  Despite the huge price tag, it's well worth the price of admission.

    Pros:
    - Well-maintained property
    - Updated rooms (minus the tub/shower)
    - Great set up for conference/event
    - Friendly staff
    - Good food
    - Great gift shop

    Cons:
    - No amenities in the room (no magnifying mirror, cotton balls, Q-tips, etc.)
    - The tub/shower which was terribly outdated and coupled with the worst water pressure ever was a complete bummer
    - No wine glasses or opener in room
    - Nothing to eat or drink in the mini bar - just an empty fridge
    - No microwave (which would be nice to have since people often stay at this property for several days at a time, and often with kids)
    - The "walk in closet" is nothing more than a closet that has been walled in by the adjoining sink and thus requires you to literally WALK IN to access the safe
    - And, a security issue sets this place way back for me, let me explain:

I came back to my room after a full day of meetings (was at the property for a conference), ready to relax for a few minutes before dinner. I decided to have a glass of wine and since there were no wine glasses (or wine opener) in the room, I was forced to go into the bathroom to use a small, (stained) water glass. I reached for the glass, and out of the corner of my eye I saw (in horror) that there was a long, black, wiry pubic hair hanging precariously from the side of my mouth guard (a device worn while sleeping to avoid teeth grinding, etc.).

I was paralyzed by what I'd seen. How the HELL could a pubic hair have found its way onto my mouth guard?? It certainly wasn't mine (not to get graphic, but not the right color or texture) and I was absolutely horrified. I turned to grab some toilet paper and it was at that moment I noticed my toilet seat was in the upright position, only I was traveling alone and would have never put the seat up. There were visible urine drops on the bottom of the seat, a sure indicator that a man had indeed used my toilet - likely minutes before I got back to the room!

I walked out of the bathroom and only then noticed the muddy footprints leading from the front door of my room into the bathroom. I immediately checked my shoes. Clean.

I phoned housecleaning and told them what had happened. I was clearly shaken up and was looking for some kind of an explanation. The woman on the phone (Irina) told me that she was sorry (unconvincingly) and would have someone come out to clean the room. I asked that she please send bleach. When housecleaning showed up with soap and Windex, I said  that would not make me feel better about putting my mouth guard in my mouth. After a few more people showed up to offer me floor cleaner and hot water I was finally delivered Clorox wipes. Probably not meant to be used orally, but I was happier to have that in my mouth than what I was currently facing.

Once I snapped a few pics (always get a photo of the crime scene), and the clean-up was complete, I started to think about the facts. I had seen the cleaning woman mop my floor and I watched as she would walk backwards out of the room, mopping her footprints as she exited. Clearly, housecleaning was not the culprit here. The pieces started coming together. Housecleaning was not responsible for what I found in my room, but someone working for the hotel certainly was because they had a skeleton key.

It became obvious that while I was out of my room that day, a man working the grounds (muddy large shoe prints) had to urinate and instead of driving back to the employee break room (or facilities), this man let himself into my room, leaving muddy footprints as evidence, lifted my toilet seat to urinate (leaving drops of urine behind and the seat up) and then presumably washed his hands but in the process of leaning over my toiletries, inadvertently dropped his hair on my mouth guard (the coup de grâce).

No one from security followed up with me on this incident and I was never phoned by the property manager or anyone else for that matter with an apology for such a severe privacy and safety breach.

I am absolutely astounded that this could happen in this "paradise" and will not come back to the property OF MY OWN VOLITION because of it.

It really doesn't matter how well the grounds are kept or how nice the pools are - if I don't feel safe on a property I'm just not staying there.

This review is for a gala event I attended.

As soon as I drove up to the resort, the lights on the trees were so pretty! The parking attendants were very helpful in directing you on where to park.

The foyer area was enough to fit the 300+ guests and the dining area was sufficient for our group.

The dining area was spacious and beautifully decorated. Chandeliers hung from the ceilings and the round tables of 8 were comfortable. The room was elegant and was beautifully set up for the gala.

The sound system sucked, but it could have been the techs and not necessarily the hotel's fault. The service by the employees were very nice, cordial and professional. Very attentive in anything that was needed - abundant refills on coffee, wine or water. Glasses were never left empty.

I was really surprised with the food. The salad was a typical green salad. The Asian Short Rib was actually tasty and very tender. I wasn't feeling well, so I wasn't able to finish my dinner. The asparagus were crispy and the mashed potatoes had good flavor. The portions were definitely generous considering a hotel dinner.

The dessert was a choice between a mediocre chocolate cake or a key lime pie. It was chocolate, so I ate it. Ehhh...

My first visit to this resort was impressive. It was an evening event and would like to see this resort in the daylight. Would visit again if the opportunity arises.

On our recent staycation, hubby booked the Beauty and the Beach package. When we checked in the King we reserved wasn't available, so we went to a room with a queen... it smelled like smoke. Boo. The resort staff was super helpful in getting us a new room (bay view upgrade!!!) and they hooked us up with a $50 resort credit.

The grounds are immaculate and the staff is kind and service-oriented. We had a great time and booked again at check out!

How do I give this hotel 0 stars on Yelp?

Billed as a family friendly resort, we chose Paradise Point as the place to stay when we took our 3 year old to San Diego for his first family vacation. Placing our reservations a month in advance, I decided to splurge and reserve the bay view junior suite.

We arrive with an exhausted, nap-ready kid at 2PM; we were told that our room was not ready yet, we're given pool keys, and told that we could visit any of the resort's pools while we wait.  I ask for our room # so that I we could park and visit the pool closest to our room... we're told that they could not disclose our room #.  Huh?

    Things got worse from there.

At 3:30, we were given the go ahead to check in.  We picked up our room keys, opened the door, and discovered that we had been given a garden view suite, not the bay view I had reserved.  Strike 2.  Going to the front desk and requesting a new room at this point is untenable...our child is exhausted...we decide to speak with the front desk the next day.

That night, after the boy went to sleep, my wife and I decide to enjoy a glass of wine and some quiet time.  We discover that we're not alone...another tenant, a 2 inch long cockroach is sauntering across the floor.  This roach was so big, that I could have either smashed him with a shoe or put a leash around him...he does go very well with the three spiders in the ceiling.  Strike 3.

The roach successfully dispatched, our wine drank, we decide to call it a night...did I mention that we had to go to the store to buy plastic cups to drink our wine because the wet bar in our suite had no cups, no plates, no silverware, nothing?

We crawl into bed and discover a blood stain on our duvet.  It's not an OJ Simpson sized blood stain, but large enough that the maid should have caught it...we feel the benefit of the doubt slowly shrinking away.

Morning.  Surprised the coffee maker works, I have my morning cup and climb into the shower.  When I get out, I reach for a towel to dry myself only to discover that it is as soft as a roofing tile.  Seriously some free beach towels we got at dodger stadium that we use to dry our dog are soft as silk compared with ones.

After a big day we return during naptime (1:30 PM) only to discover that the maid hasn't made up our room yet...so, off to the pool we go while we wait for housekeeping.  Strike #??  I've lost count.

My lovely bride stays with the boy (and her cocktail) at the pool while I visit the front desk to discuss my first day at PP.  The guy at the front desk promises the maid will be earlier tomorrow, to report the insect infestation, and that the OJ duvet will be replaced.  And the bayview room? He tells me that we got a free UPGRADE from a Bayview Junior Suite to a Garden View Suite.  How thoughtful.  It would have been nice to have been asked if we wanted this generous upgrade.

Day 3.  The towels are still exfoliating me, housekeeping had finished by the time we returned from Seaworld, and no signs of any other 6 or 8 leg co-tenants...maybe they're turning this thing around?

    Fat chance.

That night we ordered an early dinner so we would have time to make smores at the fire pit in the main pool area with our son.  We arrive at the fire pit at 7:30 PM.  No fire.  A couple sitting nearby tell us that they have already put in a request to have the fire lit.  Not taking any chances I go to the front desk.

The woman behind the desk tells me that she'll "put in a request for the service."   When I ask her what that means, she tells me that she punches in the request in the computer which will cause someone to show up "soon."  Not very reassuring.

7:45 PM.  No fire.  I return to the front desk.  This time there are three parties ahead of me checking in.  The woman at the front desk knows why I'm there, but she pretends she doesn't see me to make me wait.  When I get to the front of the line, she explains that she doesn't know why the fire hasn't been lit yet.  I suggest, impatiently, that perhaps she should pick up the phone and call someone.  Her manager beckons me, promises she'll have someone there right away.

8:15 PM.  Still no fire.  My son is doing his best at waiting patiently for smores.  I am no longer patient.  So I bring him and his marshmallow laden stick to the front desk.  The women there still have no answer for the delay, and seemingly no empathy for my problem.  Exasperated, on my way out, I tell them to "light the damn fire pit."  The manager behind the front desk threatens to evict me.  Unreal.

8:30 PM.  We talk with a security guard walking through the main pool area.  He gets on his radio.  The fire pit is lit within five minutes.  Was that so hard?

10:00 PM.  We decide to crawl into bed for our final night at the hotel.  We pull down the sheets and see the familiar blood stain on the bedspread.  Well, I guess I cannot complain lest my evicted family has to spend the night in our car.

A little piece of paradise. This is a great place to bring a family or a couple's getaway. The rooms are nice and clean. It is a bungalow style type of room with modern furnishings. The staff are super nice and accommodating. My top favorite things here are the following:

    1. The spa is just fantastic. I went on a Thursday and I had the whole place to myself. I selected the loma spa treatment and I have to say it was 2 hours of heaven. Well worth the price.

    2. The facilities. There are several pools located throughout the resort as well as the beach area where you can lay on the beach or relax at night in front of the fire pits. They also have a wonderful pond area with birds and fish. you can sit with your book or iPad and just relax for hours! They also include free wi-fi, another added bonus.

    3. The location. The resort is only minutes from Sea World and other destinations. A really convenient place yet you still feel separated from the city.

The place is overpriced. The water in the ponds has blue dye in it to keep it pretty, which really it's just pretty gross.  There was tons of trash in the ponds too, including a full roll or toilet paper.  Itd be nice if in the $15 mandatory Passport to Paradise they could use some of those funds for cleaning the ponds.  Cigarette butts on the grounds too.  It's a tourist trap full of smoke and mirrors.
Inside the room was nice though.  Would not go back; stick to La Jolla, Del Mar or Coronado.
You can take the Paradise outta Pacific Beach but you can't take the Pacific Beach out of Paradise Point.

The resort is gorgeous and a break from the usual high-rise hotel but I think Paradise Point is way overpriced.

I don't plan to go back but if I did, I'd bring my own hairdryer. Ours stopped working 15seconds after I switched it on. Our room smelled a little musty and there were at least 3 tiny flying creatures with us in the room.

From the picture's you would think your heading to a boutique hotel beach resort....NOT!!!!
We felt like we were at a republican picknic...what, they never saw a guy in a speedo here???
If I had to choose a hotel that was expensive, had no view, had no sea, had lots of kids and wasn't gay friendly...I would choose this place!
The grounds are nice...kind of, thay have so many parking everywhere! Trying to relax by the pool as they are mowing the lawn...i think not!!! everything is plus plus plus, parking your car, renting a bike, a boat, a board, a kleenex...it's expensive!!!
Great place for a wealthy family...with lots and lots of kids!!!
Adult pool, they have a small one...but don't wear a speedo gentlemen because they have immature women who may be offended! Welcome to the land of the free....NOT!

This would have been a 1 star review had it not been for the ducks.

Upon arriving at the deceptively named Paradise Point with my husband and our two chidren (one of whom just turned one year old), we were told our room was not yet ready. We were given a pass to the pool so we could wait there. We checked out the family-friendly heated pool and were excited for our stay to begin. Since it was over a 2 hour drive to the resort, we were all hungry and ordered from the pool menu. The food was actually good and I was happy that we didn't just have pizza/chicken fingers/burger options.

An hour passed. Room is still not ready.

We walked the grounds, made plans to rent bikes, fed some ducks, climbed the watch tower. Headed to the front desk...

Room is still not ready, but Diego informed my husband we would get a room upgrade for our troubles. Cool. We searched out the other pools, looked at the menu at Baleen (it was my birthday and we were going there for dinner the next night). Head back to the front desk...

Room is stil not ready!?! We were going on a three hour wait for our room.

In the end, the room was ready FOUR HOURS after it was supposed to have been. The "upgrade" resulted in us having a spectacular view of our own car. I'm not sure why it took four extra hours since the room was dirty and the floors hadn't been cleaned in at least two weeks (kids crawl around and their knees and feet were filthy from the floors). There were pillows missing on one bed, no hotel binder with room service menu, no chairs on our patio. Our son commented, "this kinda sucks." Ah, the wisdom of youth.

I'd like to say things got better, but, with the exception of dining at Baleen, it pretty much did suck. Their staff of twenty-somethings usually couldn't care less about the visitors - unless there is a tip involved. There was one star among the staff (again, with the exeption of Baleen staff which was wonderfu). Her name was Cristina at the Barefoot Grill. She seated us, took our order when our server avoided our table for about 45 minutes and was just pleasant to interact with. When our regular server, Crystal finay showed up, she checked our order and actually complained that Cristina hadn't written it down right. Ugh.

If you have a baby or toddler, be warned that the gardeners use loud blowers right outside your door around noon (which is peak nap time), the walls are thin and neighbors can easily be heard. Thankfully, we brought our white noise machine. It's a good thing since our upgraded room only provided the sounds of cars and carts passing by.

Paradise is a subjective term, but I assure you, a dirty room and careless staff is not even close to my definition. Next time, we'll head north to Bacara again... which does not suck.

This is such a beautiful resort and an amazing place that makes you feel like you're in Hawaii. The staff members are SUPER friendly, I love everyone! This 44 acre resort contains several pools, their own private beach with bonfire pits, bicycle rentals, a few restaurants, mini golf course, and much more.

We stayed in one of their bungalow's which had a very (again) Hawaiian feeling to it. Our porch area overlooked one of the many ponds that they have on their resort. The rooms were well kept and cozy.

My family and I do plan to visit this resort in the near future. We had an amazing time here. I hope you do to when you visit. Aloha!

This place is so much fun!  I brought my wife here as a super secret surprise for a very special occasion and she absolutely loved Paradise Point Resort.  A stay-cation on steroids for us locals here in the greater SD area and a magnificent place to do up San Diego proper if you are visiting from out of town.  Champagne, & chocolate were on the menu for us while we romanced the night away...

Sparing no expense, I got us a bungalow right on the water.  Our cozy villa was absolutely perfect.  The decor inside had the feel of Sinatra's 1950's meets the Jetson's 21st century.  Open our sliding door and there was the sandy beach on Mission Bay with a bonfire pit filled with wood and at the ready.

We had a San Diego night that we will both not soon forget.  Guy's if you really want to get your lady in the mood, I "HIGHLY" recommend Paradise Point.  If you can't close the deal here with your special lady then you need to seriously reevaluate the nature of your relationship.

Remember, if you want to play here, you're gonna to pay here.  Bottom line.

KC: Just think, baby...this is how poor people camp but not at all.

Mrs. KC: Poor people camp because it's a means for them to vacation like the privileged.

KC: But we're camping. Brought steaks, potatoes, mushrooms, wine...got a grill, cooler AND an iPod. Straight roughing it.

Mrs. KC: We're on lawn chairs in front of our 4 star room on beautiful grass looking over the sun setting on Mission Bay like we founded the motherfucker.

KC: Yea but it ain't like Jeeves is gonna stroll over here and open that cab, fire up those coals or medium rare your filet, right?

Mrs. KC: Before we do that...let's check out that bed.

This is such a mixed review because my girlfriend and I really enjoyed ourselves at the resort, but I would be remiss if I didn't point out some rather poor experiences along the way.

    THE GOOD STUFF:

    1. My girlfriend and I stayed in one of the bayside suites which was nice because they were separated from standard rooms and had a good bit of privacy while being right up against the bay. The rooms were well furnished, large, and comfortable in every way.

    2. The staff was extremely thoughtful and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. This extended to the check in, restaurants, spa, and room service.

    3. The experience of being on or near the water was a big plus. We did water sports (jet skis), ate at the water's edge at Baleen, and cooked S 'mores by a campfire outside our room on the beach. A distinctly different trip in every way and as close to Maui as you can get without going there.

    THE BAD STUFF:

    1. The shower/tub was backed up with a foot of water within the first ten seconds of running it. It's obvious their maintenance people hadn't been on top of things. - The bathrooms didn't get much of an upgrade during their last renovation and it shows. The shower fixture was god awful and was barely Motel 6 quality. Note to management, use the fixtures from your Spa in the rooms and it would be a huge upgrade.

    2. I reserved 2 jet skis for 11am on Saturday the day prior, but was called at 10am by the girl working at the marina telling me they essentially overbooked the rentals and couldn't accommodate us. Needless to say this was infuriating considering we planned our entire day around the jet skis, lunch, the spa, and other activities.  While she was able to rent other skies from another hotel for us to use, she didn't offer them as an initial option. The girl was flat footed on their broken promise and it wasn't until I became upset that something was done to remedy the situation.

Overall it was a good hotel, but some attention to detail in specific areas would have helped it's rating.

Someone described this as the way rich people camp. I'm not too into camping. So even in a resort, its still rough for me.

The resort has lovely views. Apparently this place used to be called Vacation Village. They've remodeled the inside, but I really feel like the outside could use a facelift. We stayed in the executive suites, which are cute little casitas. When I saw the rest of the casitas, I thought they REALLY needed a facelift, especially for the price.

Regardless, its fun to sit outside at the firepits and make smores, but still get to sleep in a comfortable bed with a shower and have access to a minifridge and restaurants.

The resort was pet friendly up to 15 pounds, so I was able to bring my pooch, which was great.

Take some time to wander the grounds and walk the beach. They are lovely.

The pool seemed like the happening place to be, but the weather wasn't good enough for me to participate.

    Other problems:

Spiders! There were so many spiders! I went to take a shower and there were 2 in the bathtub. I encountered 2 more in the bathroom during my stay. I don't like spiders.

Paper thin walls. I could hear everything from the room next door. Lovely screaming children.

Flimsy little shower curtain. I kept getting water everywhere.

We bought one of those Paradise Point Islander Club memberships that came with a few comp items and some discounts to be used at the resort. It sounded like a great deal but when I started learning about all the restrictions on actually USING the card, I was a bit disappointed. Determined to at least get my free night out of the deal, we booked for the one and only Sat night they could offer me in March.
We live in San Diego, so this was just a fun stay-cation weekend.

Parking: Charging $25/day for parking is just lame. These are assigned spots with room numbers on them, right out front of each room. That's like charging me to use the patio that is attached to our room - seriously people. That's just greedy.

Restaurants: The Barefoot Bar there is always a great hangout. Awesome scenery and decent food. Tourist prices, but worth it for the view and the live music. We had dinner at Baleen and used our free bottle of wine coupon as well (told them it was our anniversary - which later got us a free dessert! They got an star for that one). They sat us at a great table, the food was terrific, we loved everything we ordered. Using the membership card we were already getting a buy one meal, get one half off deal, or something like that. The free bottle of wine was a nice New Zealand red. Our total was around $35...$50 with tip. GREAT deal!

We were so stuffed after dinner and it was sprinkling outside and cold, so the waiter was nice enough to arrange for a ride for us back to our room, but here's where they fell short - we waited like 15 minutes for the shuttle and decided to just start walking. We walked past the front office and concierge along the way and saw two separate employees with shuttles just hanging out chatting/laughing/texting, with nothing better to do. You have to understand that this resort is huge and rooms are far apart (here's where you insert the whining tone) - and I was in super high heels in my little black dress walking in the cold rain. So the two guys saw us and said hi, but still didn't offer a ride. Not sure if the waiter never really called for a shuttle or what happened. They lost a star for that move.

The room was great, they did a nice job on the upgrades. One other thing was that when we arrived on Sat, a concierge had us follow him to our room to help us find it and there was someone parked in our designated spot. The concierge apologized and said we could park in the spot next to ours instead and he'd be sure to let Security know not to hassle us. He was going to take care of it. Well the next morning as we left, we found a nasty note on our car from the occupant of the room next to us, whose spot we'd been told to park in. Breakdown of communication I guess. When I told the front desk at check out, they did the right thing by offering to remove the parking charge from our bill. So the whole weekend only cost us $50 and it was really a neat place to stay. Props to them for making good on the parking situation. They got another star for that.

So the 5th star is only missing because they threw so many restrictions on the membership card that I couldn't use a few of the coupons that it came with. Oh well, lesson learned. All in all, I recommend this resort to people visiting or doing the SD stay-cation thing.

Came here tonight for a banquet. Thought the patio location was serene. Great bay front view and with the sunset, it was just amazing. Great for cocktails and conversation.

I was not too happy with the service. Why they kept wanting to take my plates when i wasn't done with them, i don't know. Maybe they thought i didn't need anymore food. Haha. First they tried to take my salad plate when i was half way done. I placed my fork down to listen to the speaker. A resting fork does not always mean "I'm done." Then they took away my bread and butter plate when i still had my butter balls fully intact. Never get in the way of an Asian and her carbs! Then they tried to take away my dinner plate when it was barely touched. I felt ridiculous telling them three times that i wasn't done. Made me feel like I was an overeater. The final straw was when they took my friend's half finished cocktail while she was on the dance floor. They left all the other empty water glasses on the table though.

Thought the bathrooms could use a little modern update. Especially for a hotel.

    Overall, okay experience.

    This place was pretty breath-taking.

I spent half a week here in early May on a staycation with my boyfriend, and though he had work most of the time, the days I spent here even alone beat the noise and hustle and bustle of my every day life.

I admit, once we booked this place on Priceline ($120/night for 3 nights), I had my doubts.  I've never heard of this place before, or even thought something like this would've existed in SD! Once we drove into the complex I was completely taken aback.

As soon as we checked in and drove to our bungalow-type room, it reminded me of the summers we spent in Hawaii just laying on the beach and hearing the waves from our room.  The room itself was extremely clean; it included a fridge, microwave, plasma TV, full bathroom & closet.  The layout of the room was close to perfect, though I wished there would be a side table next to each side of the bed.

Toiletries were pretty posh.  Its a well-known brand from London & really luxurious!  The bathroom was comfy, though they could use some rugs.  I wore socks everywhere to keep my feet warm. :)

Walking around the property was pretty amazing as well.  Each little community has a private pool, and as a large one connected to the observation tower, mini-lake, and the spa. The SD bay was right in front of our door, so I loved waking up to the waves and just plain PEACE.  There are even ducks walking around in the patio/backyard!

The only star missing is for the noise from the neighbors.  See, in our suite we shared an entrance-way with some noisy as heck people.  Please give the same respect to your neighbors as you'd want to receive as well!

A perfect get-away to San Diego if you're out of town, or even if you live here and want to get away from things for a while.  Highly recommended.

LOVED this place!!!!!  The staff was super friendly and I really had an awesome time on a mini-vacation away from the city.  I can only review based on my lodging experience.  I didn't utilize their extra ammenities and I didin't eat here at all.  I will say that I am a fan of the Baleen's brand so I am sure that this one was on point too!

We had booked our room on a Travel Zoo special and the per night rate was perfect!  Our front desk contact ended up upgrading our room and comping our $25 per night parking!!!  Yayyy!!!!!  I ended up staying an extra night and was happy that I did!

I love the layout of the hotel as you never have to worry about someone loud on top or below you.  There is a feeling of privacy within the bungalows.  The tropical decor reminded me of my visits to Hawaii (without the long flight).  We were near the bayside and we loved being able to play in the water and carve names in the sand.

My daughter cannot wait to return and I too am looking forward to coming back with additional people so we can partake in the bonfire!

Areas to improve:  The smell was a bit damp in the rooms.  It reminded me of a smell that lingered in a house that I rented in HI on the beach.  It stuck in my clothes and wasn't the best.  I'd also recommend better hooks in the bathroom.  There are no towel hooks close to the shower so you end up having to leave your towel on the toilet, hang it over the metal cutain rod or step onto the floor dripping wet (not an option!).  Oh and their T.V. channel options suck but who comes here to stay in the room to watch the tube!?

Would recommend this place to ANYone!

Is this place really a five star resort?  I think not.  I'm very high maintenance when it comes to hotels and resorts (which probably works to my detriment).

This resort looks like it used to be a spectacular find back in its heyday.  Not really sure when that heyday was but it ain't today, that's for sure.  It's more like luxurious campgrounds as my friend, Shin called it.

Here's what I expect from a five star resort:  Luxury.  Well-kept grounds.  Rooms bursting with luxurious sheets and furnishings.

Here's what I got.  Grounds that were covered in dirt and leaves so bad that you couldn't tell where the road ends or begins. A room  screaming sunshine, happiness, rainbows and unicorns with its terrible florescent yellow walls.  And floor tiles disguised as hardwood. (That part was cool but the floors were dirty) And a Norman Bates bathroom. I showered with knife in hand. (No, I didn't but you get the picture)

YOU CAN'T DISGUISE A MOTEL TO LOOK LIKE A FIVE STAR HOTEL/RESORT/SPA BECAUSE....

IF IT SMELLS AND LOOKS LIKE A MOTEL...IT IS A MOTEL.

On a lighter note and strange juxtaposition...their five star restaurant, Baleen, is to die for.    Literally, worth the five stars it's given.  Deserving in every sense.  Try the lobster bisque.  It's to die for.  (But die at the restaurant because it's prettier than the grounds)

    Was this review …?

Paid a 4 star price and received a 2 star hotel room.   The place isn't even 1/4 full and we were put in a garden room right next to the entrance.  Then onto of it all, there were lots if bugs on the floor and the maid left her cleaning sponge still on the floor.  I am staying here now and I'm ready to head down the street to the store for a bottle of Raid.  This place is even worse than some of the roadside Motel 6 that I've stayed in.  Don't forget to add $25 dollars for parking and $10 per night for Internet.

My advice, stay far far away and avoid this place like the plague! Or yellow fever!  Pictures forthcoming!

This place is great! I planned my prom here! The Paradise Ballroom is gorgeous and very spacious. We did have some staffing problems, everyone was very nice but it was hard finidng a single contact.

I was very happy with them accomodating us to arrive in the AM to start set-up and we had no problems with tear down.

The atmosphere is just all around wonderful and I reccommend this place for anyone wanting a beautiful indoor event!

I really wish I could offer more stars to Paradise Point, but unfortunately, my family, my friends, and I were simply not impressed.

Don't get me wrong, the resort is beautiful- with about 7 pools, palm trees, lakes, tikki torches, a private dock, views of the bay from your bungalo porch, and bat rays swimming next to you while you're dining at the Barefoot Bar and Grill.

With so many positive aspects, we were astonished at how our visit was foiled by bad customer service, surprise charges, and inconsistent offers for accommodations.

We brought a large group of friends and family to Paradise Point to celebrate my mother's 60th birthday at the end of January. In all, we rented about 9 rooms. We were told when making the reservation that it could not be guaranteed that we would be close to one another, but since it was the off season, we figured that they would do their best. This initial lack of accommodating customer service foreshadowed the issues we continued to have upon arrival.

When we arrived, the 9 of us were scattered across the relatively large island. No two of us were located in the same cluster of bungalos. It is hard to understand why, in a resort that was not fully booked, we could not be in close proximity. This also became an issue when considering my parents' friends who suffer from medical conditions that make them unable to walk long distances.

Luckily, three or four parties had cars that we could use to transport our friends around. The issue with this, however, became apparent when we were charged an additional $12 per night or parking. Why this is not included in our room price is beyond me- we were already spending hundreds of dollars on the room. We were told that the full cost of parking was $25, so we felt content with paying half price...  until I overheard another couple checking in who were given parking for free "because it's your first stay with us". This was our first stay too, and on top of that, we brought a great deal of business to the resort during the off season. Apparently there is a significant level of flexibility in pricing, and learning this led us to feel cheated.

Paradise Point attempted to swindle us of money at every turn. The dining areas are expensive (which resulted in us traveling into the city each night for dinner- when 14 people go out for dinner, the tab becomes very expensive- Paradise lost a lot of money from us because of their unfair pricing), they attempted to charge $8 for me to print out 3 pieces of paper (luckily I'm a persuasive arguer), and upon check out, we were almost made to pay an additional 20% because the receptionists were unaware of a discount advertised on their website.

I really wanted to like this place, and despite its major flaws, we were able to make the best of it to enjoy a wonderful birthday celebration. I will not be returning to Paradise Point unless major changes are made to their way of service, and I recommend to all who attempt this resort to do your research, be vigilant, and look over your bill carefully before paying. But, really, is that how you'd like to spend your "relaxing" vacation??

I lived in La jolla for a couple of years before moving back to SF bay area. I heard about Paradise point through watching Jon & Kate plus 8. Loved it. I planned a trip back to visit and booked Paradise point for the Special package - Smores in Paradise Bayside Bungalow.  a lil pricey, but we wanted to enjoy our time. As we drove through PB, i was astonished how Paradise point was just around the corner from there.

    (Pluses ++)
I booked a Smores in Paradise package - Bayside Bungalow so we can be next to the sand.  driving through the vacinity to get to our room was pretty amazing since it was filled with tons of trees and fire torches. Other than that at night its pitch black. The room was amazing and loved it.  And you get to park right in front of your room if you get Bayside bungalow. This package we didnt have to pay the $25 dollar daily car spot. It came with credited room service breakfast, but was non refundable if you didnt use it. At the Baleen, the sharks and sting rays were cool.

    (minus 1 star)
However when I opened the door to look at the sandy water. I saw tons of kelp/seaweed everywhere! I walked all the way around to the Presidential room and it was everywhere besides on Presidentail suite. The sand there is super soft. check out the pictures.  We never touched the water.. :(

    (minus 1 star)
They forgot my smores package too so when I tried to schedule the bonfire it was extermely confusing to get the conciere to help us and the staff is running around. Then you have to go out and find your own fire pit. :(  Someone was using ours infront so we had to wait for them to leave.

    (minus 1 star)
Luckily we got an end unit. You can literally hear everything through the walls. yikes.

Probably wouldnt go back.... but in case you do check and call the staff to make sure there is no kelp/seaweed!  Next time, Im sticking to La Jolla Shores.

Pretty, tropical-esque, bungalow-style cabanas. Modern wood style flooring, hence no carpets (great for those of you, like me, with loads of allergies incessantly waiting to surface), uber-friendly staff, clean rooms, beachside suites, fire pits, viewing tower, heated pools, sweet place really. I've stayed in 5 star resorts throughout the world and while I wouldn't call it that, I would definitely say that if you think you like what you see, you'll like it when you get there. I certainly did. FYI, the fire pit on the bay beach topped it off...

We really enjoy going to Paradise Point every time we're in San Diego, even if we don't stay there.  They're rooms aren't the most up-to-date rooms, although I hear some of the rooms were recently renovated, but the hotel grounds are beautiful.   If you get a good deal, always pick the Bayside Rooms.  They're beautiful.  We've never stayed in their garden rooms, so I can't say how they are.  The bonfire pits on the sand are convenient, and it's an all around quiet hotel, private little island that can be great for adults and kids all the same.

It's practically across the street from Sea World, if you have kids.
    The restaurants are OK.
The barefoot Bar and Grill is really nice if you sit outside.
    They have 5 pools.
    Tennis courts and Bike rentals.
There are ducks roaming around, it's fun for the kids to feed them.

You do have to pay for parking and internet, which is a bit lame considering you may pay close to $500/ night for some of their rooms.

Overall, this place has never let us down.

So funny how things seem to come full circle. A couple of years ago, I worked a Prom at this resort, now years later, I end up staying here by chance.

I recently found my self with having nothing to do for a couple of days and instead of staying home and wasting time on the internet, I decided to take a quick, easy trip. I went on expedia and looked around for hotels that were somewhat in my budget. I didn't really find anything that really caught my attention. Then I saw the discounted, blind booking banner, clicked on it, and saw a rate for a four star resort that was in my budget. It doesn't give you the name of where you are staying until you book it. I thought "What the Hell" and went for it. Ironically, it was Paradise Point.

So, knowing where I was heading, I was kinda stoked. Checking in was really easy. The girl at the counter was very nice as were all the employees I came across. She asked if needed the double queen size room and I said that one bed was more than enough for me. She "upgraded" me to a room with a King Size bed by the Lagoon. Cool. Another bit of irony was the room was at the only place I really drove around when I worked that Prom.

Each room is located in a two room bungalow unit with one door to get into the unit and one to get in either room to the left or right. Upon entering the room, I noticed how clean and neat it was. I immediately looked out at the view of the Lagoon. Kind of disappointing (see my photos), but whatever. The bathroom was neatly stocked and very yellow in color. There was also a small couch and sofa chair to kick it on to watch the widescreen TV. Reception wasn't too good on it. Lots of interference. HBO was offered on it.

The bed itself was really firm. Not much give on it, but I had no problem sleeping on it.

The grounds of the resort are Tropical Island in nature. It looks like a lot to maintain and felt a little beat and kitschy, but it was really relaxing hearing the splashing of the fountains and watching the ducks.

There's several guest services offered that I didn't really get a chance to partake in. You can rent bikes and cruise the grounds, feed the ducks, go swimming, use the spa, have bonfires, etc...

Although it was chilly, walking around at night is neat. They have tiki torches that light up and the entrance way into the resort is lit by tree lights.

Aside from extenuating circumstances, I had a nice stay. It was really quiet and peaceful. If I got another good deal, I would stay here again. It was close to a lot of attractions and easy to get around.

    Cons:

$25 a night charge for parking. Although it doesn't seem like they are too strict about this as they waived my fees when I checked out.

$10 a day internet charge. Why is it higher quality hotels charge for this when somewhere like Comfort Inn or Quality Inn offer it for free?

    Aloha!

    Tropical paradise.  Just add humidity!

We stayed here for a few nights over the summer.  Family visiting from Indiana.

We stayed beachside in adjoining bungalows.  Nice outdoor patios with views of the bay and sunset.  Especially liked our firepit on the water.  We made an entire night out of just hangin' by the firepit and ordering room service.

The main pool is awesome.  Sandy entry.  Bar with cocktail waitresses walking by.  Great music playing.  We had a lovely day at the pool.

Their gift shop is great!  I love the touristy gifts.  Nicely displayed.  Not cheesy.  I bought a beach bag and a sun hat.  Some fun pool toys for angel baby, too. Oh, I remember.  I need to go back for one of their sweatshirts.  I believe it said something like ANOTHER DAY IN PARADISE.  Cute!  They had a HUGE dolphin floatee for the pool --- my daughter wanted it but we don't have a pool at home.  Poor Flipper woulda been lonely in our garage!

The rooms were bright and cheery.  With a lil' kitchen.

Parking is nice because you drive right up to your room and unpack the car in a jiffy.

Love the Barefoot Bar & Grill.  Didn't try Baleen because we weren't up for a nice, romantic restaurant with all the kids.

Also, didn't try the Spa.  I do want to go back to try it one day!

Improvements needed:  I wasn't particularly impressed with the lobby (needs a re-do!) but 'hey' we weren't there thaaaaat long.  Also, customer service was a bit slow.  The lines were long so I had a while to check it all out.  I liked the Concierge but he really needs to move his desk front and center when people walk into the lobby.  It'd certainly be more welcoming.

Hard to get them to answer the phone at the front desk or the room service.

I'm giving them a five-star.  Mostly because we had just checked out of the Hilton Bayfront and into this hotel.  No one could match the customer service at Hilton Bayfront.   I thought I'd better just chill and change to a ALOHA mode rather than compare.  Hang ten!

First off I booked one night from http://hautelook.com i saved $300+ dollars and got a bungalow right on the bay which was very nice.  The second night I had reserved a room from the website for $300 but when I checked in the first night i asked them how much it would be to upgrade my second night to a bungalow which typically goes for around $750 or so night. The guy at the front desk was very helpful and he upgraded me for free so I didnt have to switch rooms so basically with the 2 nights i saved around $600 SCOREEEEEE... the pool was heated and great we loved it... we rented jetskis there right at the resort.. had a blast. the only thing i didnt like was no room service menu in the room or toiletries.  other then that the fire pit outside on the beach in front of our bunglaow made for great smores and stories with the family.  =)

Not at all what I imagined Paradise would be.  Not a bad place, but not a great place.  I would say it's great if you're a young family with small children who like a kind of outdoorsy feel.  There were plenty of family activities on the property which makes it enjoyable for kids.  But if you're into a more lavish, upscale-style resort, this place isn't it.  And unfortunately, you pay upscale prices for more standard accomodations.

Amazingly, I think at some point maybe 15-20 years ago, this place probably felt more upscale.  But this is not the 90s anymore.  The grounds seemed very unkept as there was leaves and shrubbery everywhere.  Granted it rained a day or two prior to our visit, so I will assume it's not normally like that.  The rooms were updated somewhat, but it wasn't enough to be deemed 4 or 5 star.  I was willing to pay the decent fee for wi-fi in our room, but couldn't connect.

Dining:  There was one thing truly amazing thing about the resort.  Baleen Restaurant!  Try the lobster Bisque.  Best we ever had!  The worst thing about the resort.  Barefoot Bar and Grill.  We went there for breakfast and waited almost an hour to get our food.  When we got it, our order was wrong, the food was cold and the cold drinks were warm.  A completely awful dining experience.  What saved this rating from being zero stars was that the manager comped our breakfast and the rest of the staff was very courteous and accomodating...Except for the server at the Barefoot Grill.  Ugh.

If you like feeling like you're camping, I say visit Paradise Point.  You'll probably be pleasantly surprised.  If you want luxury, go elsewhere.  But be sure to eat at Baleen's.

The impression they want you to get is that you're in a tropical paradise somewhere, and to that end, they succeed.

Windy roads that are easy to get lost on
Paper-thin walls that allow you to hear the Brady Bunch next door recounting every detail of their adventure with the tiki totem
    Overpriced food
Self-important staff who smile smugly as if to say, "I'm so glad you're here to spend your money with us!"
That clammy feeling you get on your skin when there's too much humidity in the room and you're trying to sleep.
Parking spaces that aren't big enough for a standard-sized car, but would do nicely for a rickshaw.

And of course, no tropical paradise would be complete without the mosquitoes.  I killed one within 5 minutes of arriving at our room that measured 7mm in length.  That's big.  Tropical big.

They boast of their recent renovations, and I'm sure it's nice to have a brand new LG flat-screen TV, and an iPod dock, and newly done stone floors.  But that doesn't make up for the poor-quality A/C or rice paper walls.

Also, it didn't bother us much since we were only there for one night, but there's a dearth of dresser drawers to put your clothes if you want to unpack.

But the grounds are, for the most part, quite beautiful, and they have several pools available for the guests.

But overall, you're more likely to experience a tourist trap tropical resort than Fantasy Island.

I'll probably be back to give them another shot, and maybe see what some of the other rooms are like.  But otherwise, it's still just a resort.  A last resort.
