Went here while staying at the Queen Victoria Hotel. Conveniently, they have arrangements to bill to a room. Large windows mean good night-time views of the Royal BC Museum.
The kitchen closes a little early (9pm), which I suppose makes sense, given the locale and city. Good service, with nice table linens and interior. They have some large tables which would be good for larger groups.
Not a lot of vegetarian options (maybe one or two appetizers). The Caesar salad is quite good; the French onion soup, less so. -

We went here for a Sunday breakfast since we staying in the attached hotel (Queen Victoria Hotel) and wanted breakfast before taking the Clipper back to Seattle. The food was decent but the service was horrible.
We waited close to the 50 minutes between arriving and getting our food (unacceptably long for breakfast). We had to flag down the waitress just to get refills on our coffee and water.
The food itself was OK. I had a tasty veggie omelet with pesto hollandaise sauce. The side of grilled potatoes were undercooked (some were raw) and tasteless. My fiance had a nutella banana sandwich with a side of eggs and fruit (strawberries, melon, etc).. The fruit was surprisingly fresh and flavorful.
We will not be back when visiting Victoria next. Maybe this place is better for dinner, but the service was really horrible. -

We ate here for two dinners and two breakfasts. The first dinner was part of a package deal, and it was so delightful we booked reservations for a second night. In a beautiful city of a dizzingly bountiful array of restaurants to choose from, that may be a strong endorsement of Samuel's.
The lamb shank I had the first night was so good, my wife ordered it the second night. The salmon was very fresh and delectable. The steak and scallops were quite good. The Caeser salad was tops. The creme brulee was delicious. Service? Similar to what you get on a top-rated cruise ship. The breakfast was a large notch above the ordinary: same food, but presentation was a pleasant surprise. Presentation of the dinners was as good as it gets. The sauces obviously were the result of long-simmered properly prepared stock.
You pay for it, but not as much as many restaurants in this city. The ambience, which is subdued and elegant, adds to the experience. Definitely a "foodie" place!Listed in: More upscale delights

This place really needs better marketing because the food and service were excellent but it was practically empty. At the suggestion of our proprietor we came here. I had filet medallions that were perfectly cooked with nice seasonal veg. The amaretto ice cream sandwich was to die for and the $7 I saved with the coupon from the B&B I spent on a second glass of a really tasty Malbec.
4 stars only because the mash was not very hot like it had been waiting a bit after being plated. But I would go back, especially for dessert. Oh yeah, also the chicken cordon blue is supposed to be amazing -

Would get 5 stars for food and service and views. They need to upgrade and modernize the interior but other than that ... Excellent.
