This place is insane. It's amazing they're only open a few days for a few hours and there is ALWAYS a line. Unfortunately the all time favorite porchetta was sold out right before we got to the counter but the owners were very helpful! I tried their salami with fresh mozzarella and my wife got the pork cheek. It was all very good but the pork cheek seemed a bit fatty.

Now, the overall most amazing piece from this place, the meatballs. I saw people post about them so I had to give them a shot. Not only was it the best meatball I've ever had in my life but the sauce that accompanied was insane. I've never tasted tomato sauce so good. I'm headed to Bon Appetit now to request they find out how to make these meatballs.

There's not much more to be said about this place other that go already!  It was so good that I had to go twice in one week during a recent work trip.  I'm still daydreaming about all the meaty options.  Get one that pairs with mozzarella because it's so yummy!  My preferred bread was the ciabatta -- perfectly crispy but soft enough to not have to battle through to get a bite of the deliciousness inside.

And don't let the lines fool you. The wait isn't as bad as you might think.  The first time I went I stopped by 15 minutes before they opened just to take a look and see where it was located and there was already a line like people waiting to get into a concert. Yes, it's worth the hype.

    Oh Salumi!
    King of the cured meats!
I bow before your in-house made cheeses and delicious pork products.

I wised up this time around. Yup. No temptations for a hot sandwich were had -- I knew I needed something cold and cured, so that is what I got. The mole salami made me raise an eyebrow -- but goodness gracious. The chocolate and chili flavors were so delicate and paired so perfectly with the meat and the soft & fresh mozzarella. I really couldn't put my sandwich down. The samples of the agrumi were delicious, and yes. I got a meatball on the side. That sucker was huge, delicious, and covered in a fabulous marina that eventually made its way onto my shirt. I don't care -- it was fabulous and would make a mean sandwich itself.

The line was slow moving, but it didn't matter. This place has a line for a reason -- and now I have several more reasons to play hookie and come here for a long lunch break.

The Hot Capicola is the best sandwich I've ever eaten.  The euphoric sensation that follows the consumption of this "food-hug" lasts for hours, and is incredibly addictive.  Buy 2.  Eat one later to help alleviate the shakes from Salumi withdrawal.

The lines are worth it.  This place lives up to its HYPE.

If I were to recommend ONE.  Read it.. ONE restaurant for y'all to try in Seattle, I would recommend Salumi.  It's a subs kinda place where you go and get sandwiches with tons of meat in it.

For all my friends or frienemies in LA reading this, and you haven't tried out Salumi... you're missin out SON!  The sandwiches were so good that my friends and I stopped by Salumi the day before we were going to fly back to LA to buy to-go sandwiches for the road.  We left Salumi's four sad little piggies, because they were closed on Monday.  *Tear*

    I'll be back Salumi!!!

Plan ahead if you want to give Salumi a visit - the lines are frequently long, the hours are (sadly) minimal, and they often run out of certain things - not for lack of preparation, but because their food is so heavenly that they can't keep it in the store.

I came here on a Friday afternoon around 1:30 with two friends. We each ordered three different sandwiches, and were totally blown away. We intended to eat half each, then take the rest home... but were so overwhelmed by the perfect tenderness of the meat, the delicious au jus, the crusty and fresh bread... we just couldn't do it. In fact, we almost went back for me.

I got the last porchetta sandwich (apologies to the guy who was behind me... his face totally fell when they told him) and it was one of the best things I've eaten in Seattle. Seriously tremendous.

Friendly service, and they even have a Polaroid of Anthony Bourdain and fond stories of him if you ask. Everybody wins.

This place was awesome! I had the salumi sandwich (with garlic spread and add a cheese for extra fee) and my husband got the porchetta (pork was super tender and very meaty). Order a side of meatballs and it was super juicy and delicious!

I wish they didn't run out of the chicharrones...I really wanted to try it as well. The place is really tiny so the spaces are very limited to dine in. I will definitely return when I'm back in town!

Headed up to Seattle to watch my Tigers vs Mariners & knew I had to stop here. Unfortunately, we drove from Portland to Seattle only to have thier signature sandwhich (Porchetta) be sold out! I ended up ordering a meatball sandwhich and it is easily the best meatball sandwhich i've had outside of NY city...yes that good! My wife had the Mole` salami sandwhich on ciabatta bread and it was incredible!  We have already decided that anytime we go to Seattle during the week we will make a stop in here for a sandwhich.

I think I was star struck the first time.  Upon my second return, I just was interested in the food.  This is truly the star.  Arriving late in the day means choices are limited, but still, there was no disappointments.

We sampled the house made sausage a pork sausage (shocker right) served warm on the roll with fennel and onions.  We also got two types of salumi and provolone on a role.  We were stuffed.

Keep up the good work.  If you can peak in the back to see all the meat hanging and curing.

I lived in Seattle for 3 years and only made it to Salumi once, what a mistake! I now make it my first stop everytime I'm back in town. It is literally the definition of a hole in the wall. You would walk right by it if it weren't for the line. There will be a line, it's a guarantee so be prepared to wait. They will be out of something unless you are first in line, another unfortunate guarantee. The menu is small, but you will debate what you want until it's your turn and if you are still unsure they are more than happy to let you sample some meats.

I was over the moon happy with my da vino (wine salami) sandwich. The meat was very flavorful and had exactly the sharp salami flavor I had in mind. The bread was soft and so delicious. The garlic spread adds to the experience and they also offer cooked onions and peppers. I was very happy with the onions on my sandwich. My husband had the Cotto, it had such a mild flavor but really worked with everything on the bun.

We were lucky enough to score a seat, but they have very little seating. You will find 2 small tables and one large communal table in the back. They also have a small table in the window up front, but you have to tolerate everyone oogling over your food. They have water set out on the tables, but other than that you are on your own. There are no frills, just good quality ingredients. Each ingredient sings in its simplicity and when you bite down the chorus is amazing!

I dropped my Amtrak baggage off at the $3 babysitter and immediately came here. How could I have known that a sandwich could be more than a sandwich? That a tiny little shop could be more than a tiny little shop? How could I have known that this would change the way I see sandwiches and how I see this institution.

The menu isn't extensive and you could still find yourself befuddled over what you order. But, this was my first visit and I wanted to take it classic...I ordered the salumi salami. It had a thin schlacking of a (what I think) parsely-pesto. Finely cohersed parsely with its cirtus notes and piquant garlic, layered with incredibly sweet and saliferous, gingery and peppery and although lean...seemed fatty. In a good way. Freshly torn Mozzarella and all on aeriformed Guiseppe bread. $9.90

And yes, I did get a table at noon on a Thursday. It was in the back, at a communal table, set with carafes of water. I had pleasant company from a couple from Chi-town, a couple from Seattle, and a couple from Japan (I watched the husband throw back an entire meatball sandwich and half a salumi).

I had Salumi bookmarked even before moving to Seattle.  I needed a replacement for my beloved Boccalone.

I went before they opened and was third or fourth in line.  I got the cold cut plate with no cheese and a salumi sandwich.

Unfortunately, the salumi was dry and stringy.  It must be a different type of salumi than what I am used to.  I didn't particularly enjoy it and was actually pretty disappointed.  I was used to fatty, juicy, melt in your mouth salumi.  Instead, the salumi here was pretty tough to swallow.

The sandwich was good, not because of the meats, but because of the olive tapanade.  In a sandwich, the meats did not taste as dry as eating them individually.

    I wouldn't come here again.

Hands down the best sandwich spot in Seattle... years and years Armandino Batali (Mario's pops) has been holding it down providing the best italian cured meats around. My sandwiches of choice are the hotter ones (pun intented) - the lamb, porchetta, or meatball.  However I do get the cured meats on the side as well...such as the proscuitto, hot sopressata, mole salami, and coppa.  Too bad this place is only open M-F, but I incorporate visits on my day offs.

Lines are pretty long with about 30min+ waits. Seating is tight inside and its pretty much, get in where u fit in. However this is all part of the Salumi experience.

    MEAT HEAVEN.

Finally made it to Salumi after hearing about it for years and boy it did not disappoint.

Word to wise, we went at 1:00 and  couple of the daily specials were crossed off the board while we were standing in line. Which, btw is long  but moves rather quickly.

Ended up with a Muffo sammy, the Salumi take on a Muffaletta.
Delicious, although more refined than the New Orleans original.
Topped it off with a Limonata which was the perfect bubbly to wash it down.

Sandwiches run about 10 bucks - so not cheap, but not a terrible value either.
As you are making your way through the line you can ask to taste a few different meats if you are conflicted about what to order.

You may want to plan to take-out since the small dining room gets packed rather quickly and is pretty bustling.

Will defo be back to Salumi several times while I am temporarily in Seattle.

If you are not sold on this place by the 11 billion positive reviews of it I don't really know what else I can say. Life altering sandwich right here. I you don't like it, you are a tasteless hack and I hate you. The Lomo made me seriously concerned I will never have another sandwich better than this again. I want to drive to Subway, scream at them for not achieving full sandwich potential, and then hit them with a chair. Shut up and eat this. It's amazing.

OH MY! I was amazed at how delicious Salumi's porchetta sandwich had been.

We went in not knowing what to order, but with the help of two gracious ladies they gave us the perfect choices. We were able to taste their popular salami and had a combo salami sandwich and the roasted pork sandwich with the works. Both were HUGE, but so mouth-wateringly delicious!

I'd love to try the gnocchi during our next visit.

I made a mistake!  I'm pretty sure I chose poorly when I ordered the porchetta sandwich instead of getting a sandwich filled with any one of the delicious cured meats.  Sad panda.  I mean, don't get me wrong, the spicy, stewed meat was full of amazing flavors and had a super great texture.  And the pocket-bread that was recommended was absolutely yummy.  But the meat made the poor bread soggy and it was just way too messy for me to eat as a sandwich.  I'd love the meat over rice, though!

We were super lucky to come here on a damp Wednesday in January when there was absolutely no line.  At 11:15am.  Seriously!  There was one person at the counter getting food and The Sam and I were able to just saunter up to get a couple of samples.  I was meeting some girlfriends here for lunch while The Sam was continuing on to a business meeting.  (No Salumi lunch for you!)

The women behind the counter and at the register were super nice and very helpful.  They seem to offer just the right service for each customer for everyone from first-timer to seasoned regular.  They let you take your time and don't rush you.  They offer advice and samples freely, but not in an obtrusive way.  They didn't even blink when I wanted to add on to my order at the register.  I felt very taken care of, but not in a smothering way.

The three of us were able to get seats at one end of their communal table.  The seating is extremely limited.  There's the one long table with about nine seats and two other smaller tables with seating for just two or three.  I felt so lucky to have a chance to enjoy my lunch here with no waiting and prime seats!  So, other than making my ordering mistake, it was a great experience.  (^_^)

I did pick up a nice hunk of hot sopressata to bring home for The Sam and me to enjoy back in Oregon while we dream of our next trip to Salumi.  It is so delicious and has lasted for about a month on the counter.  (Yes, I'm rationing it!)  It does require a sharp knife for cutting or else it crumbles to bits.  But maybe that's more of a comment on my knives than the product.  I will eat it sliced, crumbled, or probably even off the floor.  It is delicious - not too hot, not too greasy, not too tough, just right!  I am looking forward to my next trip north... it will definitely include a stop at Salumi!

    Line wait - 35 minutes

    Worth the wait?  HECK YES.

I was never into salami until I met Salumi.  And G'damn are Salumi's salamis top knotch. In fact, I still am not into salamis unless they are from Salumi.

Now, on to the sandwiches (Very generous portions):

Meatball Sandwich: Three big tasty, round, moist, meaty balls. The bread gets soggy fast because of the tomato sauce. Make sure you have plenty of napkins handy or risk getting the red sauce all over yourself.

Porchetta: The pulled-pork was okay. I thought it tasted a bit bland and dry and I was not a fan of the bread either.  It just didn't have that crisp, chewy, and soft texture to me.

Verdict: 5 out of 5 for the salami & 3.5 for the sandwiches.

This was my favorite food destination in Seattle, and for good reason! First of all, be prepared to wait. We probably waited around 30 minutes (the line wrapped around the block) at 11:30 a.m. I heard it's always busy. At one point they came by with sample slices of salami. SO GOOD. They have a number of sandwiches, both hot and cold, along with daily specials. I'm pretty sure the best dish on the menu is the one I had: muffo sandwich. There are only a limited number of these heavenly creations everyday. It's an sandwich that's been soaked with olive tapenade ahead of time, then make it to order with two different kinds of salami and cheese. I was hesitant to order a cold sandwich on a cold day (and I don't even like olives!), but it was so worth it. Seriously. I'm drooling thinking about it.

My mom had the porcetta sandwich, which was really good too. It was a little heavy, but I'm not complaining! Be prepared to sit family style if you eat there. I could hear everybody's conversations at the table; that's how close we were to one another. Also check their hours; we tried to come back the next day for more, but it was closed. Luckily we had bought some soppresata and vino salami to take home. :)

After waiting in a relatively short line, I arrived at the counter just in time for the last Porchetta sandwich of the day.  They had more than enough for one, but not enough for two sanwiches, so they just put it all on mine!  It's like they read my Yelp quote as I was reaching the counter.... "Better to have too much than not enough"!  The friendly ladies did warn me not to expect a sandwich this enormous every time...  :-)

The porchetta sandwich has gotta be one of the best I've ever had.  The bread is perfectly chewy, the meat seasoned to the max, and covered with peppers and onions! Nom....wait for it...........   Nom!

There was a bit of a line when we got there, but it moved fairly fast.  They have menus on the windows so the people waiting outside can use their time waiting to ponder their choices which I found very nice.

I ordered the porchetta sandwich (without cheese by their recommendation) and it was filled to the brim with big chunks of pork.  I was only able to work my way through half of it and saved the other half for the next day.  A pop in the oven for a little bit to heat it through and crisp it up and it was just as delicious.  A taaaaaad salty for me, personally, but still great flavor.  I intend to try one of their cold sandwiches next time.

The service was also quite nice, warm, and welcoming.  Even if you have no knowledge of what you want they're super friendly with their suggestions.

The trick at Salumi is to go between either 11-1130am or after 1pm, as the line ends up being much shorter.

I always get the Meatball sandwich with mozzarella. It's HEAVENLY with the smoked mozz but they don't have the smoked very often, only for their meatloaf days. Make sure you read the menu boards before you're up to the counter. They move fast!

Salumi? oh yeah! it lives up to the hype, and i can't wait to have more lunches here when i'm in Seattle.

Had the mole salumi, and roasted pork sandwich.

The mole is just what you would expect, great bread and great cured meats. Simply delicious with a bit of a spicy bite to it.

The Roasted Pork Sandwich is the hidden gem, all i can say is WOW. The meat is very tender and juicy, and the fennel is a great addition to the sandwich. It doesn't stop there, the bread, it's soft and crunchy on the outside, and not just any crunch. The crunch of the bread outside, has the texture of pork skin. So when you're eating it, it can confuse you. Pork skin consistency without the oily after taste!

Just go try, and get what your heart desires, this is truly spectacular.

I was here once with some friends visiting the city. And, even though I've since turned to vegetarianism...I keep intending to cheat and go back here.  Now that I'm preggers and consistently cheating...it's on my pre-baby bucket list.

The place is difficult to find.  Every time I'm in the neighborhood, I locate it for future reference. You will wait in line. Accept it and enjoy the anticipation.  If you're unpleasant about long lines, you're going to mess up your digestion and this place is too awesome to do that to yourself.

It's pretty old school inside. You can look through the glass and see the meats hanging while you wait. Have your order ready when the counter person is ready for you. They're polite about it if you aren't on the ball, but it's pretty obvious that you're tinkering with a precise and fast moving machine if you dawdle.  It's most obvious in the people in line behind you. Order the first thing you see on the menu, chances are, it'll be the best thing you eat that week.

Why is the simplest food always the best? I'm already a sucker for cured meats but something about this place is special. The light airy bread, the garlic pesto spread, the big slices of great cheese, the pickled peppers and onions, and of course the salty smooth cured meat. My favorite was the lomo and I can never say no to a big slab of gorgonzola. I have tried a couple others including the more salami types, but the lomo with rich, creamy gorgonzola will now be my go-to.

The hours are crazy so you have to really WANT it, you have to be deliberate. Lunch time tuesday-friday ONLY, and things sell out fast. I wouldn't call it a downside, you just have to commit to making a visit. Take some time off work, feign illness, schedule a "dentist appointment", find a way to get your butt here.

Looking for good salumi in the western half of the U.S.?  This is a great spot to check out if you're in the North Western part of it.  I ordered a salami sandwich which was half and half of their Salumi salami on one side and their spicy salami on the other half.  A little on the pricey side for a salami sandwich ($9+) but they don't skimp on the salami slices, they pile it on to a pretty decent thickness.

This is a small shop owned an operated by Iron Chef Mario Batali's parents.  I've been told by a friend who works in the area that the lunch line is ridiculous.  I went around 3 p.m., about an hour before closing, and there were only two people in front of me.

A must for cured meat enthusiasts.

This a hidden little place in the Pioneer Square neighborhood. It's quite small and quite popular, so be prepared to wait in line at lunch time. The line often extends to the sidewalk and when you arrive, you'll quickly be able to see the lenght of the line.

You'll usually have plenty time to think about your order as you meandor in, looking at the menu and specials board. I'm sometimes pursuaded to try a special, but more often then not, get one of their delicious meatball sandwiches.

There are plenty of salami choices, which are made here on site.

The porchetta sandwich was very, very good. It is juicy and falls apart, it is a huge mess to eat, fennel and other sausagey spices, has about 3 meals in the sandwich, and you shouldn't order anything else.

I also ordered the meat/cheese/olive sampler thing. The worst salami in the plate was still great, I liked the lemon and mole ones best largely out of their novelty. The others are fairly standard Italian salami items, done well. The mozzarella is very good, fresh and soft. The provolone was strongly flavored, which I appreciated. The gorgonzola was very strong and clashed with some of the more strongly flavored salamis. All of the meat was amazing. The porchetta sandwich I still daydream about.

I was a virgin.   I had not had the Salumi experience before, so I came with a more seasoned vet.

We queued up in line (which went out the door).   My friend was explaining her past eats and while I was looking at the menu, my brain frazzled out.  So many choices to select from.

I ended up selecting the porchetta and we decided to split the corn and potato chowder.   We wended our way through the line and managed to sneak two seats at a communal table at the back.

The porchetta was moist, flavorful.   One half of the sandwich filled me up and the first bite splooshed stuff all over the place.   The corn chowder was wonderful and even though there were little chunks of potato in there, our spoons battled like light sabers fighting over the corn kernels.

The staff was polite enough not to make fun of me when I asked for some additional paper to wrap up our remaining sandwiches to take home.

Best sandwich in the city hands down.
The line could be long at lunch time though.

I love that there's a salumeria in Seattle. This is probably the best place there is for a sandwich in Seattle. If you can get yourself down to Pioneer Square and handle the long line, you will not be sorry.

The salamis and meats are delicious. You can get a delicious sandwich or pasta for lunch and buy a couple of cured meats while you're at it. Note: call ahead if you want to order a cut of meat that requires a lot of cutting, since they don't have time during the lunch rush. My favorite sandwiches are the porchetta and the meatball (it's a really good meatball). The sandwich special is usually very good as well.

The staff is amazing friendly and helpful. I've been a dozen times and never waited less than 20 minutes. The eating space is very small.

What's another review on top of the 642 reviews this place already had?

I am not too huge a fan for salami, so I don't have much knowledge about them.  I had the chicken pasta, beef tongue salami sandwich and something else I can't remember anymore.  The food was good, not great (I didn't think.)

On top of that, we had to wait outside in the rain because the line wrapped around the corner of the block.  Maybe the wait hyped up the expectation, so I wasn't too impressed.  If I am ever in Seattle again and have plenty of time and the weather outside is not awful, then I might go back to Salumi and give it another whirl.

We got here half an hour before they opened, and were second in line.  The line built up fast, so I would suggest this.

It seemed like the porchetta was the way to go, so we got that (with onions), the pork ragu that they had on special, and the salumi salami sandwich (with garlic sauce and fresh mozzarella) to go.

I had just been to Hot Doug's a couple days before on a trip, and I was still reminiscing about the foie gras dog, but the porchetta sandwich threw that right out the window.  It was unbelievable.  I felt like I had to fight back tears of happiness in order to not feel like a wimp.  I really felt like I was at home and in Italy at the same time.  I really can't describe the feeling of that first bite, but I don't think I will forget it.  I know that's a little extreme for a sandwich, but it was just phenomenal.

The pork ragu...aside from home, I've never really had that good of a tomato sauce.  I was impressed.  And the pasta was cooked perfectly.

We had the salami sandwich while sitting on a log on a beach in Oregon.  It was perfect.  I like salami, but I never knew how good it really was until I took a bite of that sandwich.

I'm seriously missing this place right now.  I can't wait to go back.  I'm kind of sad that it's not closer to me.  If you are thinking about going to this place, don't think about it, and just go.  You won't be disappointed.

So this is Mario Batalli's dad's place. It's super humble, down-to-earth, teeny tiny place. No water service, and you're lucky to find a seat so grab one if you can fit.

Take the ladies recommendations. They won't steer you wrong. And they are super friendly.

Be sure to go during a downtime, if you can. They are not open all the time - check the hours before you make your way.

The area is a little shady.
