Specialties
Heritage and Heirloom Seed Catalog for Organic Gardeners from Salt Spring Seeds. Tomatoes, Quinoa, Amaranth, Oats, Soybeans and more. Since 1986 we've been supplying seeds to farmers and gardeners, promoting organic growing, and encouraging people to save their own seed.
History
Established in 1986
All our seeds are untreated, open-pollinated and non-GMO. We grow all our own seeds and sell only our most recent harvest. As is true again this year, we write the printed and online catalogues in December after we've cleaned and evaluated all our seed crops from the year before. December is also the month when we package the seeds. Most of our seeds are mailed from mid-January to mid-May but we fill orders year-round and usually within a day or two of receiving your requests.
Meet the Business Owner: Dan J.
Dan Jason was involved in the founding of Seeds of Diversity Canada and the Seed and Plant Sanctuary for Canada; both are seed banks whose mission is to preserve varieties of vegetables and crops. He has written several books including The Whole Organic Food Book: Safe, Healthy Harvest from Your Garden to Your Plate, and most recently Saving Seeds as if Our Lives Depended on it.
Jason is active in food politics, being an outspoken opponent of genetically modified seeds, patents on living organisms, and industrial agriculture in general. He frequently gives lectures at environmental and horticultural events in British Columbia, including Seedy Saturday.
Jason has been interviewed and been published in a number of publications, including The Georgia Straight, Canadian Organic Growers Magazine, Seeds of Diversity Canada Magazine, Mother Earth News, Global Public Media, and Salt Spring News.
