Still awesome!
But this time I had a pizza when we stopped by the Salt Shaker. Man, it was so good! the crust, the sauce, the toppings. All great. And I ate the whole thing by myself. It's April and the place was packed. We were all starved, so we opted to sit out on the patio so we didn't have to wait for a table. It was chilly, but damn the food was good.
Also... all the dudes that I was there with mentioned the top notch, pleasing-to-the-eye waitresses there. lol. Noted.1 Previous Review: Show all »

What an awesome spot. The dining room is tiny, but in the summer (or on a very warm Thanksgiving weekend) the patio is open, making more room. A group of friends and I stopped here on a whim during a day trip to the South Shore, and it was one of the highlights. There is a small drink menu and I ordered one of my favorites, a Strongbow, but after seeing all of the tables around us order the house made Iced Tea, I think I missed out.
I ordered a Thai Noodle Salad, and it was delicious. Bold, but not overpowering flavours, full of peanuts and it looked as good as it tasted. I opted to add shrimp to the salad and it was such a good choice, there were 7-8 shrimp added to the salad, and were large, juicy and perfectly cooked. They were also seasoned with flavours that matched the salad.
My friends all enjoyed their meals as well, and the service was lovely.
I would highly recommend anyone in Lunenburg stop here for an awesome lunch. -

Great spot for lunch!
Everything I ate was delicious and came out quickly. My husband got the bahn mi which was delicious, and I'm a sucker for mussels so I had the special of mussels with beer.
The decor was nice and airy with an old fashioned malt shop feel.
Great food at great prices, with nice, friendly staff and a cozy atmosphere, what more could you ask for?! -

Incredible little restaurant I visited in the winter during a visit out east, located in a beautiful little fishing village like nothing you will find on the west coast. The lobster roll on a toasted white bun with arugula and tarragon mayo was out of control (plus a pint of local beer). Super friendly laid back staff in typical east coast fashion made it that much better.
Surprisingly, even the Subway "restaurants" there offered lobster rolls, but I'll stick with the Salt Shaker. -

I am happy to agree wholeheartedly with the previous reviews. I had the mussels and a pint which now is $12.50 but still a good value. The Thai coconut curry sauce was wonderful. Carol had the seafood chowder, which is unique due to the smoked haddock used. It was the best chowder we have had in the maritimes.
The service was excellent, ambience is quite comfortable, and the cook is accomodating and friendly. A very nice establishment in a pleasant setting. Can't wait to try the seafood pizza and fishcakes! In a stunning town with a ton of restaurants, this one definitely deserves a try. -

Recently in Lunenburg for a wedding, a group of 8 of us grabbed lunch at the Salt Shaker Deli. What a treat! From lobster rolls to chicken clubhouse sandwiches, to mussels, there was something for everyone and it was all delicious. We nabbed a spot on the patio and were able to dine while taking in the views of the picturesque Lunenburg waterfront. The service was great, and the price was very reasonable. It was really a perfect lunch. If you're in Lunenburg, don't miss this place!

My Lonely Planet told me to go here and I must abide as it hasn't let me down yet. The Indian Point mussels come in eight inventive 'flavors' and I chose the Portugese style with a dusting of spicy tomato sauce and interspersed sausages. Me + a few glasses of the local L'Acadie Blanc and I'm set. Very pleasant and attentive service, probably the best on the island so far. Reasonably priced considering the high quality.

Weekend before last we had the good fortune of stumbling upon the Salt Shaker Deli. I was drawn in by the funky looking interior and the cursory menu glance got M's approval as well.
The special alone was worth stopping by to check out: A pound of mussels and a pint of propeller draught for $10. Amazing flavours on the mussels as well including: roast garlic cream, thai coconut curry, propeller porter and portuguese with sausage. The thai coconut curry was amazing!
We'll definitely be back as pretty much everything looked delicious! -

The Salt Shaker Deli is an italian infused east coast style eatery in "downtown" Lunenburg. (I use the word downtown very loosely because the concentrated shops and cafes only compose about six or seven city blocks). This little deli looked like the most promising place to find some fresh and healthy lunches, and luckily for us that is the Salt Shaker`s specialty.
The menu features about 20 gourmet pizzas, fresh salads and a few seafood dishes including fresh mussels steam in a delisious garlic dipping sauce that my crew decided to split for an appitizer. There are a number of local beers available and a great outdor patio that overlooks the water.
The Salt Shaker staff are super friendly, once our waitress realized we were from out of town she went out of her way to suggest some of the more touristy places we should check out while in the area. We took her advice and were so impressed with our service we planned another meal here. Unfortunately the Salt Shaker is only open Tuesday-Saturday and our Sunday dinner plans were foiled.
Next time I`m in the area I will definitely stop in again, and I would suggest that anyone who hasn`t enjoyed a Keith`s on the Salt Shaker patio in the summer is missing out. -

Don't be put off be the term "deli" - it is a marvelous restaurant, and it's clear this place is managed by someone who loves good food. The restaurant is light and airy - the waitstaff was friendly and warm, and it was one of the better meals I had in Nova Scotia on a recent 8 day visit.
The fishcakes with a homemade tomato chow and salad were as good as they come. They were light and airy (hard to believe for a fishcake) - made with PEI potatoes and a little bacon. Wow. Actually a very light entree compared to so many other versions of this dish in the maritimes. My wife had mussels provencal, which were superb. Dessert was a rhubarb tart - perfect end to a great lunch. Even the iced tea was great - served in little pitchers that were big enough to quench your thirst!
Definitely a worthwhile place to go. -

Try the Thai mussels for a bit of a kick - really tasty. I had a genoa salami sandwich and my wife had the lobster mac and cheese. Both were fantastic. I'd make the trip from Halifax for a return visit any time.

This was our first restaurant in a week in NS and was one of the best we visited. Great mussels (pint and a pound -yum!) and seafood chowder. Very cozy with a nice harbor view from the deck. Even pizza for the kids so they were happy.

Great place for their pint of beer + pound of mussels special. They also have good pizza. A fun place to go in downtown Lunenberg. In good weather, you can sit outside and enjoy the spectacular view.
