Review from Lisa e.
New York, NY
Based upon the fact that there are not many real restaurants in this area (mainly just fast food), I'd say this place is quite good. The restaurant itself is casual but nice enough. I also like the fact that they deliver (a TRUE luxury in this neighborhood, to have REAL food ...not just fast food....delivered!)
I often get the katsu chicken bento box and it's a real good value....about $15 or so and enough to feed two people (though if the people have huge appetites, maybe not).
Everything I've gotten here has been quite good. The vegetable tempura is always excellent...light and crisp. The katsu chicken is good, as is their salad and miso soup. As for the sushi, I only get the meguro (tuna) and for the most part it's good (though not great).
The woman who usually answers the phone there could perhaps take some lessons in being a bit more 'warm'.
But all in all, this place is a real gem considering the neighborhood where it's located! -

Great place to eat !!!!!
Sushi is really good and not a bad price.
The only thing that bother me is the service is slow and if there is more than 4 people in the place you will be waiting a while for your food so don't be in a rush like me and enjoy the company that you are with and relax. -

I have only gotten takeout here and the sushi starter and the california rolls are AMAZING! but as i was waiting for my order, i was checking out the vibe of the place and its really nice, more casual but not fastfood-like, its a perfect place to go to lunch with your girlfriends or a casual dinner with a date. I would definitely return. the only thing people were a little confused about is that they are closed from 3:30pm-4:30pm and i got there at about 3:10pm so it seemed like people were being rushed out, so i'd avoid anytime around those hours. (It might be their lunch hour). Enjoy!

for a sushi place being in ridgewood this place gets 3 stars..but for food... ive had better and its a lil overpriced... i ordered the chicken teriyaki box and got tons of food for like $13 it had rice, chicken teriyaki, california rolls, shrimp and veggie tempura,a salad and steam veggies.... but the amount of food didnt make the food taste any better..ive honestly had so much better for cheaper... on a second occassion i ordered soba noodles with chicken.... NASTY!!! noodles were cooked into a mush and wasent anythign special.. and $9!! no way ..also the host/lady thats there all the time really has bad customer service so rude..i call her the sushi nazi... i mean if you want to get your sushi/japanese fix in ridgewood then this is the place to go since there isnt any other place around.....other than that i rather travel into the city and get my moneys worth.

I have visited this restaurant before and always ordered the same dish. I noticed that my food was room temperature and not hot like it is always served. I told the waiter and he took it back to the sushi bar area where I heard yelling and then he brought it back claiming that it wasn't supposed to be hot. I told him it was fried in dough and I had always received it hot. He took it back to the kitchen and microwaved it. It tasted like a sticky goo. So I told him it was not edible. He completely ignored me and walked away and watched me from a distance until I paid for my food and left.

I like the sushi here and it's reasonably priced.
The service isn't very friendly, they bring you your food and that's about it. -
Review from Mike D.
The sushi tasted fresh, but average at best. I ordered the $6.95 lunch special which was 2 rolls and soup. The miso soup, I hate being this harsh but it was like sipping toilet water. I had about 4 spoonfuls and had to push it away. Miso no like.
The real reason for the 2 stars was the fact that they first attempted to seat us at a table which had a dead fly on it. Then as we were eating at a different table I may add, another fly was buzzing around. It really turned me off because it's late fall and it's not like they had the doors jacked open in mid July and couldn't prevent the flies from coming in. No excuse.
I think it's pretty safe to say I won't be back. -

The Japanese place to go if you live around here. Take out or eat in is equally good, the portions are very generous and I love the deserts.
They also have great teriyaki and overall, it's a great place with a cozy, intimate atmosphere. -

Felt like a fast-food place with tables. Well, the takeout menu IS the menu they hand you. Let's see... there was the watery miso soup with not a cube of tofu in sight and mediocre salmon sushi that looked wimpy and prepackaged. The quality of rice used for the roll was not great either. The salmon roe (ikura) had a bitter, vinegary aftertaste. I know, right? The sea urchin wasn't bad, not fishy, not creamy... no taste really . Basically, everything tastes just like the price... which is CHEAP.
Ok, to be fair, the seaweed salad tasted like it should and for just $3.50... which heightened my expectation for the other stuff. -

Good place around the neighborhood since there is not much to do here or eat. I thought at first, many people were not going to be a fan of a Japanese restaurant, but everyday they have plenty of customers. I love the food and the service is fine. I'm not expecting the best service EVAR, but they are nice enough. Plus, the food is not at all expensive and it comes FAST.

For Ridgewood, Glendale and my hood in Bushwick, this is a good spot to go to. Prices have gone up a bit but it's still pretty good. I always call my order in to go and always try to get the Tempura Salmon lunch box special for my wife. Someone mentioned the Tiffany Roll and I have to say it's one of the BEST rolls they have here.

Rude! my boyfriend and I ordered here once and the delivery guy was so rude i gave a him a 7 dollar tip after he took an hour to get to us and he called me "Cheap" when it was only a $15 dollar meal and we are literally seven blocks away!

This is a lovely little restaurant! The rolls are great. Everything tastes so fresh and binds mellifluously.
Rob M. - i noticed what you said about the lady!! It was funny because that was my reaction as I watched her handle the calls.
Aside from that - this place is great. My only suggestion would be to put little candles on the tables - it's pretty dark in there.
food = awesome. won't hurt your wallet.Listed in: places i LOVE

I have not had good sushi since I was on the west coast... However, we went to this place a couple nights ago and HURRAY for me I found an outstandingly fresh and refreshing little SUSHI place.
The service was fast and reminded me of being overseas again. The lady everyone is b@tching about in previous reviews is your typical Asian I was so used to that and made me feel like I was in Japan or Korea again.
I have to say you impressed me immensely... I will be back again SOON. Let me suggest the Shrimp tempura. mmmmm.... -

MIDDLE VLG, NY
Good sushi for Glendale but nothing spetacular compared to other joints. Parking sucks around Myrtle but once you've overcome that hurdle and walk inside, get ready to eat some sushi!
Sakura is pretty busy with patrons ordering take out. If you order in, the food comes in a relative short period of time. One good thing is that they have some good deals. For $10.95 you can get any 3 regular rolls with soup or salad. Talk about a steal. I knew a place in Forest Hills that is now closed which used to be $8.50. This is the closest I could find to such a bargin!
Anyway, my bf and I were super hungry for some sushi. We considered getting the 3 rolls each but then my bf saw sushi platter #1. For $29.95 you order 7 regular rolls and either a rainbow, a tiffany roll, or shrimp tempura. So in total you get 8 rolls. I can't remember all the rolls we ordered but some were-white tuna, spicy tuna, shrimp mango, sabaeri, shrimp cucumber etc. For the special roll we got the rainbow. Food came out within 10 or 15 min and was nicely arranged on a boat! The rolls were pretty small and although they were fine, I felt like they were missing something, perhaps a crunch or more flavor. The special rainbow roll was the same size as the regular roll.
All in all it was good but we were still hungry. I'm glad to see this in Glendale. -

I recommend everyone avoid this place. I ordered delivery, 1/2 the order came. I called and rather than say they were sorry, The staff was so absolutely rude and nasty. I am waiting over an hour for the other half. This is an absolutely lousy way to run a neighborhood business. and I used to order regularly from them. Never again! If a place screws us an order they should at least try to be nice. Mistakes happen. But rudeness is not acceptable not at their prices.

This Sakura is my #1 favorite sushi place of all time (so far hehe). They have a wide selection of rolls to accomodate whatever your taste may be. I usually get the party platter that comes with 7 rolls and a special roll (I highly recommend the Tiffany roll) and wash it down with a bottle of Echigo (sometimes they have it, sometimes they don't).
The past couple of times that I have been there, the service sucked, and it wasn't even that busy. But the scrumdillyumptious sushi makes it all worth it! -

Good sushi. Good prices. That's all I really ask for when it comes to sushi around my neighborhood. The food is consistently good! I love the Tiffany roll here. I enjoy their chicken teriyaki dinner boxes.
It's a relatively small space but I find it cozy. When I call to have the food picked up, it's usually ready when I get there. So yeah it's pretty good service.
Overall, I am a fan! -

Not a bad Sushi place for Glendale. I always seem to get the one waiter, the young guy who barely speaks above a whisper.
The sushi is always fresh, and the prices are very reasonable! Last time I went I got the chilled Sake that came from a can! -

Glendale, NY
sushi is good but over-priced. For the same price in Manhattan you can get much more. But not portions are the problem. I have ordered from them couple of times because that is closest sushi place to my house. Older lady was never nice to me taking orders ( I do not care about that ). However couple days ago my wife ordered from that place dinner for our wedding anniversary and guess what portions were smaller than usual. Party plater #3 of $42.95 + tip, was as an appetizer with rude service on our special day.
Right now time to check other sushi restaurants in neighborhood... !!!!!!! -

I live right up the block from Sakura IV, so it is the place I most frequently order food from. The sushi and bento boxes are awesome and I have never had any problem with the food. My only gripe with this specific Sakura is that the woman who works the front desk can be very off putting and nasty on the phone. Several times I was put on hold for long periods of time, she refused to fax me a new menu upon my asking, and she can leave you waiting a while when you go in to pick up your order. Aside from her, this place is on point and the best sushi restaurant I have found in the neighborhood.

The sushi is decent, and it is much much better than the crappy fish bait on Fresh Pond Road. The delivery is very fast.

Sakura is the kind of place Ridgewood/Glendale was missing for a while, so needless to say it enjoys a good amount of popularity. I've tried many of their rolls and they're always very good. The hot sake is also good, as well as their edamame. I haven't tried their entries but I imagine those are good as well. The only reason I am not giving them a full five stars is because the service sometimes is so-so, as if they are short on waiters. Their fried ice cream is great too ! Also, I know for a fact that it's open until 11:30 PM on friday nights - which is hard to find in Ridgewood...hah

I ordered the deliver couple of times, but never again, their food is okay, nothing really much to say about it, I will probably giving their food 3 stars, but their deliver guy really need to learn some manners, first the order took 45 minutes, which is okay, I understand maybe their kitchen is busy and running a little behind, and when the deliver guy near by my place, he called, and yelled out "Deliver" yes I said yelled out over the phone. I went outside opened my door, nobody was out there, I looked around and about to close my door, I heard someone yelling out again, "Here, Here"!! which he was running out on the street from no where. Finally I got my orders, it was $25, and I hand him $3 for tips, he looked at it and he didn't even say thank you, but he actually giving me a dirty look instead, and sadly to say, I have a feeling this Chinese guy might be the owner of this restaurant

I moved to the area about two yrs ago from Long Island and I've tried a few difft. japense delivery places but this is by far the most consistent. (although sometimes it takes a long time and food arrives a little cold...but forgivable). Service isn't bad when you eat in, either. Boyfriend always gets at least two tiffany rolls. Their sashimi is fresh.

Review from Jordan D.
It's all about the Tiffany roll here. Even if you aren't a big fan of sushi or Japanese cuisine in general, it's a must that you try it. I think, if I'm not mistaken, it's a tempura California roll. Anyway, it's the best speciality roll I've ever tasted. Service could be better, parking is tough sometimes, but the food is good here and there Japanese beer selection is good too, definitely try the Echigo.

Sakura IV is one of the best Japanese restaurants I have had the pleasure to enjoy. Either take out or eat-in, it is a wonderful experience. I love the teriyaki here. Whether you get steak or chicken (or both, my fave) you'll enjoy your meal. The desserts are great as well.

I loved this place from the first day that I ate there. Its my favorite restaurant in the area. We are always ordering from here. Prices are very reasonable. Their rolls are delish , and so are the entrees. The only downside is that the restaurant can sometimes be packed and you have to wait a bit for your food. but its definitely worth the wait. :)

Let me start off by saying I " used to " eat here and order from Suckura 2 x a week when they opened up and raved about them to friends. With that said I have had enough of this place for 3 reasons! Number 3. is Take out service, Added Surcharge of $3 bucks on Bill, And not taxes or delivery charge I mean a blank space but billed $3 bucks on Receipt for your Guess is as good as mine! And in these shaky economic times thats very very Shady from a restaurant! They do that 25x a day and theres $75 extra bucks swindled from Us the consumer. Number 2. Is Rude Phone Service and even Ruder in person if you Question the authenticity of the Fish there charging yo for! Yes Read that again people and see my Number 1. Reason why I am done with Suckura.... And now the Number 1 . Reason They Sell COUNTERFEIT FISH! You order Tuna you get a Cheaper version of Talapia! and so on and so forth!

This place is ok. I love their tempura. It is so rich and tasty. What I don't like over there is their soup for an appetizer. Its not so good when you go there to eat in. But it tastes good when you get it for delivery. I don't get it. But overall i like this place.

I just ordered some rolls for delivery. It got here in 20 minutes! My boyfriend says they were average and I'd say slightly below. Maybe because I'm from California? The fish seemed decently fresh but I felt like it didn't taste like much and combined with the underseasoned rice, there wasn't much going on. I ended up dipping everything in soy sauce and wasabi. Prices are good, sushi is about mediocre, and they deliver fast. Maybe I should try dining in but until then, three stars it is!

no offense but their food and sushi is just not as fresh as them us to be , i find the new restaurant just open on fresh pond road is alot better than this joint the place is more space and comfort and the food is way better dessert and hot food even sushi is fresh than this place.
