Review from Tae G.
Schaumburg, IL
I had come across this Wicker Park gem while i was out in Hawaii, Oahu to be exact. I was shopping at Kicks/HI and talking to the people who were working there. They had asked me where I was from, I told them Chicago and then they proceeded to tell me that they had a store out in Chicago! I was pretty stoked about going home and checking this place out. I had asked them why they chose Chicago to open up their other store and they said that out of all the places they had traveled they like the Chicago vibe the most.
Finally returning home i got to check out the store. It was small, clean, quaint, large variety, good music playing and with a very helpful staff. I'm so glad I know of a proper shoe store much closer to home :)

Fly. No other word for it but fly. Saint Alfred is one of those very rare streetwear shops--like Concept in Boston--that carries the most exceptional, limited, and rare designers and editions. Years back Vogue magazine did a story on Supreme--the NYC skateboard shop--and compared it to Chanel in how it has won the hearts and minds of its core customers and that same paradigm would apply to Saint Alfred, too. You'll find your expected stuff from adidas, Stüssy, Nike, Diamond Supply, and the like here but also things like the ultra-lux Japanese streetwear brand Visvim. Their staff is friendly and know their products, too. The house Saint Alfred line is also really awesome: seriously understated but slick caps and tees. Fly.

There's not enough time in the day to say all the great things St. Alfred has to offer.
They have such a huge selection of sneakers, hats, and tees and accessories that can satisfy any shopper. Their urban-wear is sick. They have some of the most creative and original designs ever. The quality of their clothing is great and I always get compliments on the shirt designs.
They also carry some very unique and hard to find brands, styles and makes. I have seen all kinds of people wearing their clothes from celebrities to skateboarders to hipsters to businessmen.
Take a stroll in and check it out. You will not be disappointed. -

Small shop, but packs a punch for the serious street wear head.
Staff is friendly & easy to talk to.
They carry 'The Joneses' line, which is a plus!
They have exclusive items & from time to time do in stores with musical guests. This is a plus in my book! -
Review from Johnson C.
I must say, St. Alfred didn't disappoint this travelling sneakerhead. It was my first time in Chicago, but I knew St. Alfred was the 'marquee' kicks store in Chicago. None of that snooty NYC boutique attitude you'll get at some joints (if you've been to Supreme, you'll know what I mean). Just a bunch of cool and professional guys that know their craft. The store was busy and they wanted to help as many people as possible or we could have spent hours discussing the decline in leather quality and stitching from Jordan brand or how New Era QC needs serious overhaul.
And luckily for me, I swung by their store during a big sale. There's no better feeling that going through the store, picking up your purchases, walk up to the cashier ready to pay full price and they tell you there's a steep discount on everything.
Impressive range of kicks. And great selection of clothing - I think it was the first time I've see legit Bathing Ape outside of Busyworks. I think the most impressive part of St. Alfred's is their store brands. Sick prints and incredibly slick fitteds. YES! A store that loves contrasting underbrims as much as I do.
One of the finest sneaker and streetwear stores anywhere. -

They care more about customer service than any shoe store in the city.
Sure, they've got a pimp shoe collection, but Saint Alfred puts as much on experience as they do on style. I purchased a pair of boots in early October. Put them away for a couple of months, and whipped them out for the first snow fall. When water started seeping in through the soles, I got pretty ticked and decided to bring them back to the store.
They were more than happy to refund the defective purchase, even months after the fact. Shotty service isn't their game, if something's awry their going to make it right. Thanks to people like Joseph, this place is a step above the rest. -

Probably the best sneaker store in Chicago...maybe not for the average consumer but for the pure "sneakerhead.
I'm no Sneakerhead but I know quality and this store has it in spades. The employees are hard-working, cool, and free of pretension. They know their product.
The fact that they are actually busy helping people puts them head over heels over all the other stores.
They also have a bunch of edgy t-shirts. Like shirts with random words on them that don't make sense.
Too cool for school.
They don't have my leather vans though! UGH! -

The Experience:
I first discovered St Alfred's when I was walking the streets of Wicker park. It was like my first time actually exploring the neighborhood itself. (I want to say 3 yrs ago.) My first impression of this place was pretty good. I noticed they had a lot of exclusive items. At times it would be those same items that would be pretty hard to find at any regular local shop or any respected internet clothing store.
The bad thing I have to say about this place is that you have to be on top of your feet. When they push out new stuff they'll tend to run out of your size very quickly. I want to say about 80 percent of the time. I would recommend signing up for their email updates about up and coming products to prevent that outcome. The prices here could range from reasonable to jaw dropping. But I guess when you're bringing in exclusive imports from Japan; you're going to have to charge a certain price to profit.
Ranging the sneaker, hat, and tee Selection. 1-5
Sneakers = 4 ( I have no idea why they don't sell Supra here.)
Graphic Tees = 3 1/2
Hats/Baseball Caps = 3
(They should consider bringing in some vintage snapback hats.)
The Staff:
I actually get along with the staff here. Overall they're professional and enthusiastic. The good thing about the employees here is that they are actually willing assist you or will give you some insight about certain products. A definite plus for returning customers. -

Chicago is complete with STAs location in the best part of town (Wicker). From streetwear heavy hitter brands the hundreds, dqm, huf (&more) and crooks to upper echelon threads like original fake, NSW, and their in-house label, that is just the tip of the iceberg. Its walls are adorned with limited edt sneaks from classics Nike, adidas, clarks, and vans to up and comers like generic surplus and the connoisseur gentleman brand visvim. It doesn't stop there. There are fresh new eras that can't stay on the shelf, limited kaws/of fake vinyls and collectibles, TH accessorie and phoenix eyewear, shwood sunglasses, and classic kicks to oogle. To top it all off, the staff is anti-NYC etiquette. Not bashing on NYC but the sta staff is few and far between the most knowledgable and welcoming people ever!
Please believe! -

I went in looking for baby Jordan's and also because a buddy of mine has a few of their hats. No Jordan's for babies but, the hat stash is epic. I walked out of there with a Kick Ass lid. The service is top notch. Cool peeps, friendly as hell. This is a never miss when you're in Wicker Park.

Review from Brett D.
At home in L.A. we have lots of little shoe boutiques like St. Alfred... They cater to an urban style with every colorful pair of Nike, Puma, Converse and more that you can think of. It's nice to see Chicago catch on to the hip-hop shop craze. Maybe we're not two years behind the trend spectrum after all?? Way to go St. Alfred. The latest dunks... they are there. The Jordan AF12's... they are there. The list goes on and on...
I've been on a desperate hunt for a pair of the safari Nike dunks and I figured if St. Alfred doesn't have them, than no place will. I was correct, they did have them... but not in my size. And on and on it went with the rest of the pairs I picked out. It seemed like they had all display shoes and no stock!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
The guys that worked there seemed more interested in talking fashion shop with the other dudes that hang in the store than helping me find a fit so I could leave a happy hip-hop little shopper. I know I don't fit the bill for their typical clientele, but that shouldn't make a difference when it comes to service. Maybe next time I'll rock out a St. Alfred shirt (they carry nifty apparel too) and I'll garner more attention.
But until that happens... or until they up the stock quantity... 3 stizzars it is.Listed in: So you think you like to…

Some of these reviews are hilarious!
"Hip-hop Shopper" and "nice to see Chicago catch on to what LA is doing"??? I'm sorry you had to step out of the TMZ, and I apologize for a store like St. Alfred. Sincerely.
This place is consistently on point. It is true, you have to be on your game to catch the "hot chit" before it's gone, but you should already know that. -

Kicks, tees, and urban style. I had to pry my good friend away from his St. Alfred addiction after dropping almost some serious coin when they released a special line of Nike Dunks and Air Force1's.
Chicago now has a spot that is comparable to both coasts in LA and NYC who have dominated the street fashion culture. The hometown spin on the apparel is a nice change of pace (gotta love da Bears couture) for folks looking for something fresh and unique while supporting our home team.
Prices are what you would expect out of a boutique store such as St. Alfred, but you will also find a lot of limited production pieces that will keep your fashion senses percolating. -

Wicker Park, I love you! Your shopping selection is so much better than Michigan Ave. We arrived to Saint Alfred and were greeted right away. They have great sneakers and carry a wide selection of various brands for shirts. The BF picked up some shoes and the guy checking us out was sweet enough to throw in a postcard when he found out we were from out of town!

So good, I stopped by here twice.
Checked this out the first time before a Slum Village concert at the Double Door across the street. Chopped it up with one of the workers and talked about life, kicks, and Hawaii. They promptly invited us back the next day to watch the World Cup final at the Six Points pop up shop next door. We agreed and found our way back the next afternoon.
The fact that they have this pop up, in addition to the shop next door is amazing to me. I'm a fan and a frequent shopper of the Kicks/HI shop in Hawaii (of which STA is a sister store), and the vibe is very much the same. Cool people, dope product, and a vibe that is consistent with the Kicks/HI Aloha Spirit.
Chicago, you're hella lucky to have this spot in your city. STA All Day. -

Ok let me start by saying that st.alfred has the best service of all stores in chicago of its kind. The workers are all super cool and ready to help. They are also really funny. They talk to you like a normal person not a customer. Sneakers here are top notch they get all the limited shit. I'm talking jordans to nikes to converses. Clothing is good. Carry kaws which is something new but a good addition to the store. The inhouse brand does well but doesn't really appeal to me. The manager Brian or krabby is really layed back and chill. One thing i did like about the store is that they carry visvim. yes visvim thats my shit

Eh.
That's the feeling i have every time i leave St. Alfred's. I've probably walked through at least a dozen times, and their selection is not bad by any means, but there is no shoe that is calling me to take them home. Still have yet to make a purchase there.
And when I'm in there i sometimes feel that the guy behind the counter feels the same way as i do. Just doesn't really seem to care to much about anything, or maybe he knows that he's got the same stuff as a half dozen other places within a short walk.
It's a shame. I really do want to like this place, but it appears to be a one sided relationship. i give it 3 stars b/c the collection is pretty solid and I'm sure someone can find something that wets their pallet.Listed in: Tour De Kicks

The thing that stands out the most is customer service here. Other boutique stores I've been to aren't as nice as these guys are. They always great everyone and make the effort give you service. It's so easy to say "Hello" so I don't know why everyone doesn't do it. At times they look like a deer in headlights because it's out of the particular associate's element but like I said its the effort that counts here. These guys have a good network so they get the most exposure out of any stores like it.
Another thing that puts these guys at the top is their sales, usually it's rare to find a sale in these kind of stores but so far all 3 times I've been here they have something going on. Maybe it's just the economy though. Either way it's still nice.
Also, if you like exclusive Jordan's you'd be happy here. -

really enjoyed the service and selection at St Alfred. I have needed cute/ hot/ rad sneakers for months and my usual shops just didn't have what I was looking for.
great tees, mainly for guys. zero attitude, all the gents working in the shop talked with me, even though I was clearly not a neighborhood gal and probably a little older than the usual clientele. the person who greeted me kept trying different shoes, including taking my foot-shape into consideration, until we found a pair that worked! cute mid-top vans. there was no rush to get me to purchase or leave the store as I needed to just stick around and let the dogs settle. no point in getting cute shoes if your feet hurt or your toes are smushed.
took 1 star away because they didn't have water-resist spray on hand to prep the shoes before going out the door; and they didn't have my size in my 'prize' selections, but I'll sign up for their twitter and will absolutely come back ;) love the lo-chill demeanor and lack of 'too cool for you' attitude.

If you ever need street wear. Dope kicks. And Great accessories this is your one stop shop. They carry everything from original fake to Nike to converse. Their shoe selection is above par and their clothes are on point. The staff is very friendly and knowledgable in the fashion industry. Always a good time to chop it up with their staff. Friendly outgoing and never rude.

After searching through LA including Santa Monica for some awesome kicks, I came across St. Alfred's here at home in Chi-town.
Wow! This place has it together. They had a lot of really cool sneakers I'd never even seen before and walked out with a couple bags of shoes.
I feel like I should give them 5 stars but I think if they expanded their selection just a little they would definitely hit 5.
Keep it up St. Alfred's!!! -

I've been going to Saint Alfred since they opened up, and they've yet to disappoint.
The staff is extremely personable and friendly, a nice change from other Chicago sneaker shops.
They also don't mark up their shoes to ridiculous prices, which is always a plus, haha.
Lastly, St. Alf's always comes through with great designs for their shirts and fitteds, I own a bunch.
A real great contribution to Chicago. -

st. alfred's is great. coming from nyc, the people who run this shop are super friendly. none of the snobbery that is usually involved in rare-kicks shops seems to apply here. they remembered that they are actually trying to sell things and that being nice to everyone who walks in the door might be a good idea.
i also love how the shop is laid out too. most of it dedicated to things you can actually buy instead of 'trophy' items that are nfs. love the logo as well. all in all its a pretty tight execution on a singular theme with really good people working there. oh yeah, and they threw in a bunch of freebies when i bought a pair of blazers.. which was a nice touch. -

Appologies for the months of downtime since writing my last review. I am currently on tour for 6 months without a laptop. (Waiting for the new Mac OS to come out before I get one.) Anyway, St. Alfred is a fantastic spot for exclusive kicks and high end urban gear. Feels a bit like a transplant straight out of NY's Lower East Side, which isn't a bad thing, but it also has a distinctly Chi-town flavor to it, with Chicago-sports inspired t-shirts. Other designs draw influence from high fashion emblems like Yves-Saint Laurent and Louis Vuitton. Exclusive collabos with the likes of Huff SF, Stussy, and Chicago's own Lupe Fiasco can be found here. Overwhelming selection of the hotness.

What it is: A well run boutique. Being more than just a shop, St Alfred is a staple in the Wicker Park neighborhood. You wanna find out what's going on tonight? Go to St Alfred. You want the newest sneakers to drop or some real fly threads for the weekend? Go to St Alfred. You wanna take your girl out somewhere nice because you're trying to get with her? DON'T go to St Alfred. She'll like the cloths you pick up there, but its not a cutesy little shopping store. I swear, you meet someone here, and they don't forget you. That's because they sell cool shit to cool people, and it is understood when you walk in the door that you don't have to deal with some geeks bullshit or squeeze past some louis vutton purse carrying skeezer to find what you need. When I need something new, this is my first stop. Nice work St Alfred.

Now, why can't every boutique be as unpretentious? I didn't buy anything but not for lack of want. Staff was nice even though it was pretty obvious we weren't going to purchase. They get new stuff frequently so visit often. I'm glad I don't live close otherwise I would own too many sneaks and still be sorely lacking in dancing skills.

so i have what you would call a nike addiction and i am going to have to stick st. alfred with partial blame for this.
its true, if i avoid this place for weeks i start to walk with a slight twitch. one that can only be stopped by popping in and drooling all over the nicely stocked womens section....yes you read that correctly... womens section! how exciting.
everytime ive been in they've had some form of deal going on, everyone who works there seems genuinly happy to be there, and everyones been more than eager to try and help me find something i might be happy with.
so there it is boys and girls. i feel i speak for all of wicker park when i say , thank you st. alfred you do chicago proud. -

I like to come in here with my daughter when were walking around and it gets too hot, they got A/C on and dont seem to mind if i come in and take a load off for a while. I only bought 1 pair of shoes here, some of them are a little too wild for me, but they got a cool selection, its like a gallery more than a store. the dudes who work there are nice and i hate to get bothered every 2 seconds by a sales person. they ask you if you can be helped, i say no and they dont bother me again, sweet. will def drop half my paycheck here when the MF DOOM 2 dunks come out.

All the Yelpers are right. They greet you with their sales they have going on for the day when you walk in. The customer service is better than any boutique I have been to. Usually they are snobby and not willing to help (ahem, MAJOR!). But they even had stickers and a decent amount of Js for sale. Great selection all around. I had to cop their newest New Era fitted release when I went in there a couple weeks back. They are the king when it comes to premier street boutiques.

Shout out to my boys who work hard and hold down the STA fort. This IS the place to go. The girl's selection for sneakers is ON point and you won't find the dudes working there talking about how many of this or that they own or what LV or Bape keychain they are going to cop next. Krabby, Michael, Joe, Frank, Johnny, Deal, 2nd, you guys are the best.

as a sneaker fiend, i really want to like this place, but every time i go in there all i can do is sigh. i'm always disappointed, as i rarely see a shoe on the shelf begging me to buy it; when i do see something worth trying on, they never have my size.
st. alfred, must you be so... banal?
as such, i still have to travel (on the internet superhighway, or via good ol' train, plane, and automobile) for alarmingly dope shoes. -

I visited St. Alfreds on Sunday 2/22. I am definitely a shoe person and they have a wide variety of kicks. They specialize in tennis shoes and casual shoes. Its a hip trendy store, I like the selection of novelty T shirts as well. I was able to find a shirt that summed up my whole 2008 "You are now rockin with the BEST!" Also you can order online and they will ship to you, I will be losing my mind in their online store.lol

last time i stopped in, my girlfriend and i were greeted immediately and were told about the sales and discounted items.
they're shoe selection is real nice as well as their t shirts and caps.
i got exclusive van's "peacoats" and they even sold me a stussy shirt that wasn't even in their system yet.
SHOP ST ALFRED'S!
