When I first tried this place, it was a little hole in the wall next to the Odeon on Yates. It looked like the kind of place that might be kind of sketchy, or might be a total treasure, and it ended up being the best example of the latter.
Run/owned by the tiniest, smiliest, awesomest lady ever, Saigon Night closed a few years ago and eventually reopened (thank god) on Fort, a couple of doors up from Quadra. The food is excellent quality and really reasonably priced - You can get a giant lunch for 8 bucks, and dinner for 12.
Some of the really popular dishes are rice vermicelli with chili lime sauce, BBQ pork and pieces of deep-fried spring roll, with carrot and lettuce and bean sprout. These are delicious.
But my very favourite has to be the Banh Tam with thick noodles. Auuuugh SO GOOD. It's udon noodles with BBQ pork, chili lime sauce, carrot, and bean sprouts, in a thick coconut milk sauce. Add some of the red stuff/sriracha (not too much!) and it's edible erotica in a bowl. I also love their house made orange juice, their salad rolls, and their Vietnamese coffee (which turns me into a hummingbird.
The only downsides I can think of are that you might want to get there early, since it's popular now, and they give plastic chopsticks, which I find crazy slippery. But really, I've never had a less than entirely happy-sigh worthy experience there.
Came for lunch, it was busy, but not packed. Very reasonable prices, good service, and good food.
