Canmore in Alberta has a lot to offer. Great scenery everywhere you go-- a terrific town and super restaurants. Take Sage Bistro which has both full service dining downstairs and tapas and wine bar upstairs.
The restaurant is pretty basic but in it's basics it has a lot to offer. It starts with a very nice and inexpensive wine list (retail plus $8 Canadian per bottle). The Rose was light, crisp and delightful. Perfect after a day of hiking, elating and rafting!
The appetizers were the most pleasant surprise. The mussels inn a garlic cream sauce were superb. The Mac and cheese is a signature dish and one not to be missed. The caprese salad with bib ,ethics--crisp-light and perfect with seasonal tomatoes and light balsamic dressing .
The main dishes were equally as exciting. The 10 pz ribeye was a hit. Nice finish with. A sweet potato puree. The special of the night-grilled pro chop with a berry chutney and fingerling patatos was a great combo and nice mix of flavors.
Price point is very good and the service attentive and colorful. If in Camford,Alberta give this one a go cause a la Scott gives this local spot 4 stars. -

I've given this place a lot of chances over the years. My most recent experience included filthy glass wear, mediocre service, canned chunk tuna on top of salad Nicoise, and no follow up on plates.
Pretty much, it just keeps disappointing me... -

Went to the winebar here today and it was amazing. Great selection of wine and very very tasty tapas style dishes. Our waitress was also very knowledgeable and provided great service.
Quality of ingredients and execution were both very very good. Risotto with panchetta and peas was done perfectly! Beef tartare was excellent. Wild boar pate was great as well. And the bread was really tasty even though it wasn't served warm. I think I had four pieces. It was simple but went great with the food/wine.
I honestly don't think this place gets enough recognition. We had originally set out to visit crazyweed kitchen, but it was booked out for a Xmas party. Fortunately we spotted sage down the street and were very pleasantly surprised.
Btw it isn't Asian fusion as stated in the yelp description. -

Originally found Sage through Canmore's Dining Guide and found the advert and sample menu to be quite attractive, however when we got there it seemed like the guide was very much out of date. While the bistro has a nice location and beautiful view, the interior is a bit drab and dated. We found that the menu was completely different from what we had expected and it was difficult for the four of us to find something that appealed to our tastes, and it's not like we're exceptionally picky.
Specific to the food, the Venison Meatloaf was rather bland and overshadowed by a tiny portion of superb homestyle Macaroni and Cheese. The Thai Chicken Curry was a bit on the weak side with no attention paid to presentation. While I do like the idea of fresh local greens included with each dish, they were soggy and hidden underneath the main dish.
For the level of quality given the price is too high, but hopefully the management will reform the menu and kitchen soon as the dining room was quite emtpy for it being a Saturday night.
