If I could give this place more than five stars I would. On a recent sun-chasing trip to southern B.C., during which my fiance and I hotly pursued summer 'til she fled impartially across the U.S. border, we dropped into Safari Beach Resort, hoping for cheap, off-season rates to escape the rain and another after-sunset tent set-up.
We weren't holding our breath, after all, this beachfront oasis boasts balcony suites overlooking Osoyoos Lake and its renegade desert mountains. FYI -- Osoyoos Lake is only the warmest fresh-water lake in Canada!
Luckily, off-season rates were in effect and the lovely couple who runs this fine establishment offered us a seniors' rate - clearly wanting to fill their rooms during a tourist's low tide. We paid just $92!??! ... for a neat, clean two-room suite with kitchenette and balcony. And their good karma paid off, as we loaded up the fridge with steaks, burgers and fine wine from local vineyards and stayed on longer than expected.
My sweetie and I joked we must be naive northerners, sucked in with low rates and lakefront views, only to become victims of some cross-border human trafficking scheme in our sleep.
But we slept beautifully -- without hijacking -- enjoyed the sand, sun and views, and sipped our vino from the balcony feeling felt like a couple of smug, upper-middle A-types rather than the last-minute low-budget road-tripping post-summer hippies we are!!
