Thai's my favorite at home, and it was great to find this on vacation.  Nice assortment for vegetarians, friendly and helpful service - and even a sample of local wines not on the menu.  Dinner was great.  I can vouch for vegetarian pad thai, and my companions enjoyed theirs, too - Praram Long Song (Swimming Rama) "tender sliced beef sautéed with mixed vegetables topped with mild peanut sauce" plus a couple more noodle dishes.

I LOVE THIS PLACE! I come here for lunch whenever I'm in Sidney. I've never had a bad dish here for lunch or dinner. They're always busy but prompt.

I have been here for lunch on multiple occasions with groups of 6-10. Everyone got their food at the same time and it was hot. Each person was happy with their food, meeting dietary restrictions was not an issue at all.

I wish they had Thai iced tea.

This is by far the best Thai place on the island. It's small and it gets crazy busy, so make a reservation. I've eaten here several times with large groups and small and they always have quick and attentive service.

The menu satisfies pretty much all the typical Thai elements. The Pad Thai Gong and Red Curry are unrivaled. The spring rolls are also crispy and fresh and not overly greasy. For Thai fans this is a must.

It is truly fantastic that we have a Thai restaurant in Victoria (ok Sidney, but still) worthy of 5 gleaming, glorious stars.

From what I gather the Thai lady who owns the place used to cook for Baan Thai and then moved on to open up her own joint.

I had heard only good things, but Sidney is quite a trek from my downtown homestead making it a low priority to journey out there.

We had to head to Sidney to pick up a shelf one evening so my boyfriend and I had the genius idea to finally try this place.

Walking in at about 6pm on a Tuesday night we were surprised to find the restaurant packed. Luckily we were able to be seated right away. They put us smack dab in the middle of the place so we were able to drool over other diners dishes. They all looked heavenly and made it very tough to decide on just two.

We settled on panang gai and a veggie dish with an incredible peanut sauce. Words cannot describe... The panang was perfectly rich in consistency and the veggie dish (can't remember the name) was anything but simple. I really felt the flavours we encountered were put together with heart. Just beyond any of the other Thai restaurants in town (some of which I love and frequent).

It's probably a good thing Sabhai Thai is so far afield otherwise I'd be eating there every night. For now I'll just have to be sure to fit them in when I'm on my way to the ferries.

This was a great little place! Good portions, complex and authentic taste.
It was very busy but it was no wait to get a table.
Service was impeccable, best I have had in a long time, and the food was excellent. I have to say I was expecting sub-par small town food, but this was anything but!

Who would have known that a small island town like Sidney would be home to a terrific little Thai restaurant that produces authentic, no frills Thai food at really reasonable prices.

I stopped by Sabhai en route to dropping off my g/f at the ferry terminal and was greeted by a short lunch menu priced almost entirely at $8 a dish. Service was quick, attentive and thoughtful (they provided us 2 spoons for the single serving soup we got knowing that we would likely share the soup).

The green chicken curry was rich with bamboo shoots and coconut milk and the included spring rolls were hot and fresh. My pad thai was not oversauced and not overcooked - the noodles were just right and the sauce was obviously made with real ingredients and not the ketchup you sometimes get when ordering from cheaper thai places. The chicken in the pad thai and the curry was the only thing that didn't meet my expectations - it tasted like it was either steamed or poached rather than marinated in advanced or even seasoned.

All in all, I'm thrilled to find a very good Thai place nearby. I'm looking forward to trying dinner there soon.

I went to Sabhai Thai for lunch with a friend and we both ordered the veggie pad thai lunch combo. $8 is a pretty good deal for lunch: you get a veggie soup to start and the dish comes with a spring roll.

Nothing really to say about the veggie soup. It was boiled veggies in veggie broth. Good to warm you up.  The spring rolls are goooood. But I love spring rolls, especially when they come out piping hot and crunchy on the outside. Oily, but what else would you expect from spring rolls?  The pad thai was pretty decent. They use some shrimp paste for sure because you can see and taste the little shrimp.  It didn't blow me away, but it's definitely better than the ketchup sauce crap you get at some other thai restaurants.

I don't know if this is normal for them, but we got there around 12:30pm, the lunchtime crowd was there so it was busy. We honestly had to wait 45 mins to get our main dish o_o soooo super slow.  We had to flag for water refills and to go inside to get our bill. Good thing none of us were in a hurry to get back to work and we were quite enjoying the sun outside on the patio. I wouldn't mind coming back to try other dishes if I was in Sidney again. ... I don't know if i'd recommend this for a quick lunch though, because that, it was not.

I love Thai food, and the food at Sabhai Thai rocks. Everything is fresh and made on the spot. I have been eating there for years and the quality of food and service has always been consistently good.

The food definitely deserves 5 stars. Plus you always get good service with a smile. Also can't beat the lunch menu, which averages around $8.

'Only' four stars overall because this place has one serious flaw: it is incredibly noisy when full, which happens often. If you are with a party of more than two, conversation is nearly impossible when they have a full house because of the noise. Would be easy enough to remedy, hope the owners take note and do something about it one day.

They offer outside seating in the summer, my preferred choice (it is nice and quiet out there). This is a very popular place, and often packed at peak times. I have never had to wait for more than 20 minutes for the food  though. I always call in for a quick reservation, regardless of the time of day. The last couple of years they have been closed for about a month after christmas. A well deserved rest for the owners.

Try it. If you love Thai cuisine, you will love their food. If you have never tried Thai food before, this is a great place to check it out. They also offer take out. If you have never had Thai food before, I'd recommend the Pad Thai, mild or medium hot, which is a very pleasant noodle dish. Perhaps start with a Tom Ka Gai soup, which is chicken and coconut milk with a hint of lime, but don't let that dissuade you, it is delicious and will please most palates.

    Enjoy.

I live in SE Asia so I'm going to go easy on these guys as their clientele probably would expire from Thai dishes on contact. If you like Thai food, order hot as the mild/medium fare is not such an event. The menu is pretty typical for North American Thai food. Things are pretty fresh, the service is great.

We have visited other Thai restaurants in the Victoria area, but like this one the best. The food is excellent, the staff are friendly and the menu is varied. The only downside is that it is usually full on weekend evenings, so making a reservation is a good idea.

The interior of the restaurant is quite plain and the atmosphere is casual. Tables can be easily moved to accomodate groups. There is also an outdoor eating area that is used during the summer.

Favourite dishes include golden cups, Pad Thai and snapper in red chili sauce.
