Finally got a chance to step in to sample the lunch time menu.
It wasn't very for a Thursday lunch time crowd. The atmosphere was that of a nice restaurant - and not expensive.
Lunch special + soup + stout was 28$ I was a bit confused, thought the lunch special was 11$ with the soup, but it was not. What came to my table was a BIG bowl of corn chowder. It was delicious. I should have just ordered that. The main dish was a veggie linguini. Moderate portion, very tasty.
Prompt service & bill including debit machine to your table.
Overall, the food was good, quick & hot. This would be a good option if you needed to do a business meeting or as a couple looking for a nice meal and not priced too high. -

Hubs took me to Ryan Duffy's last weekend for my birthday - all in all a great experience.
We started off with a couple of martinis - chocolate for hubs and green apple for me - both were very good and our server was one of the best we have had in the city - some servers you can tell have been in the "biz" for a while and really know how to treat customers - he was a pro.
We ordered the table side made Caesar salads - this is the ONLY salad to get at this place - our server who made the salads asked how we liked the various add ins she put in (garlic, capers, anchovies, spice, cheese, etc) thus you can create a salad to your liking - she even offered to make us two separate salads but since we have the same tastes she was able to make only one - this salad was huge and could easily have been a meal in itself - I am still dreaming and tasting garlic from this salad - soooooo good!
For our mains - hubs had the bone in beef tenderloin with Dijon and blue cheese crust - for $50 it was a bit pricey but you did not need a knife to cut this steak - it was that tender - hubs loved it - he had the pan fried chorizo potatoes as a side and enjoyed that also. I had the 8 oz filet mignon and should of gone for the 6 oz after that huge salad - I ordered garlic mashed potatoes as a side dish - I found these to be a little bit on the bland side and next time will probably have a baked potato.
All in all our experience at Ryan Duffy's was a great one - we also learned they have a brunch menu so hope to try this place after the Farmer's Market some weekend soon. -

Great New Years day brunch. Delish mexican skillet but how can you go wrong with chorizo, sweet potatoes, peppers, poached eggs, gruyere, and chipotle hollandaise (although i couldn't really taste it under that delicious cheese)! Love that they let you butter your own toast cuz greasy toast is not my thing. Even better is the $4 mimosa with brunch purchase. Relaxed and friendly service topped it all off.

My first trip to Ryan Duffy's was as a baby, when my mother was thrown out for bringing the carriage to the bar while waiting for a table.
The new Ryan Duffy's is very delicious for a steak dinner in a city where good steak is hard to come by.
The tableside prepared caesar salad is also exceptional.
However this is not a restaurant to go to on a whim or a budget, but for special occasions. -

I decided to take my wife to Ryan Duffy's for her birthday. She thought it was an odd choice because she does not eat meat but loves seafood. I told her that I was intrigued by their excellent website promoting their use of fresh, local ingredients including seafood. I explained that to her and she agreed to give it a try.
We really liked the design of the restaurant. Although it is not quite as intimate as the Spring Garden location, I liked the art deco design especially the funky lighting. There are a few booths, and a nice bar.
We were given a basket of excellent heated garlic bread and sweet rolls. I was told by our friendly server that the rolls were actually made with pretzel dough. That's why they were sweet. They were delicious. She also brought over a mason jar filled with pickles, olives and carrots. I tried an olive but was saving my appetite so I resisted having anything else. My wife and I each ordered a glass of Merlot which took forever to arrive. That was slightly annoying since the restaurant was not busy. I think the server compensated us by giving us a bit extra which was very much appreciated.
It wasn't long before our Caesar salad arrived. I have read several reviews praising this salad and I have to agree with everything I read and heard. It was absolutely amazing. They used just the right amount of anchovy and garlic. The dressing was very creamy and fresh tasting, topped off with delicious garlic croutons and freshly shaved parmesan and delicious smoked bacon. We split a $9 salad which was more than enough for us. For $12 you can have it prepared tableside. We will get that next time because the server will adjust according to your taste. My wife loves garlic so she could've asked for more if she liked. Plus the 'show' of seeing it prepared looked fun at one of the other tables. It was the best Caesar salad I have ever eaten and I highly recommend it.
My wife ordered the seafood pasta. It was loaded with succulent scallops, shrimp, tons of lobster and clams. Oh, the clams. My grand father was a fisherman and he always claimed that clams are the most 'seafood' tasting thing there is. He was so right. These clams were so fresh that my wife though they added salt to intensify the flavor. When she mentioned that to the server we were told the clams were fresh that day. It was the most amazing and intense seafood dish I've ever tried. The fresh linguine was smothered in a light creamy sauce that emanated a delicious full seafood flavor. It was so good my wife would only let me try a small spoonful of it. She is still talking about it 3 weeks later. It was divine.
My 12 oz New York Strip steak was grilled perfectly - medium well and piping hot. I loved the spice they used on it. The steak was really thick and very juicy. It came accompanied with a huge baked potato. A guy came over with an offering of sour cream, bacon, and green onions. I chose sour cream but wish I had got the works. The side dish was 2 slices of tomatoes with balsamic vinegar basil reduction and mascarpone cheese. It literally melted in my mouth. I want to try to copy it at home. What an simple yet amazing dish. It was the best steak dinner I have ever had in my life and I can't wait to have it again.
Our 7 year old had ravioli stuffed with three cheese and tomato sauce. The sauce had a very sweet yet spicy tang to it. The ravioli was wonderful little cheese filled pockets of awesomeness. There was enough to have lunch the next day.
The total bill was $150 including tip.
I highly recommend Ryan Duffy's and in fact we are going back on our anniversary next week. I don't think I'll have to twist my wife's arm knowing the best seafood in Halifax can be found at a steak house. -

I hadn't imagined Ryan Duffy's to be quite so fancy. As my father requested a spot for a "good hearty steak", I resorted to a quick google search to find such places. (I couldn't convince him to give The Wooden Monkey another go.)
It was quite lovely inside, with clean and comfy decor and prominent table settings. Professional service lead the way to a table of our own, and we proceeded to enjoy a lovely restaurant experience.
Prices were steep, although food seemed of high caliber. This was the perfect spot for my Dad to lick his chops through the menu-- lots of hearty, yet decadent, meat dishes to choose from. I chose the halibut, which was good.
I wouldn't choose this restaurant for myself, but it was a nice time and my Dad got a good fix. I'll likely be back during his next visit to Halifax! -

What a nice place for a dinner. First time ever that I have ever been there but I do remember walking by it on Spring Garden Road Since it moved I never really thought about it until the BF wanted some meat.
Walking in it was very crowded but nice. Probably one of the nicest restaurants that I have been to in a long time. Obviously going to a Steak House I am ordering some meat. A nice grilled 6 oz steak with sweat potato arrived and it was delicious. It was so juicy you know the kind where you stop and suck the juice from it. Well this was it cooked to perfection. Actually before our supper we had that we had a Cesar salad to start off had.with.
Now I am not able to give you a price on this because i did not pay but hopefully he will take me back.
