This is an amazing store and the owner (Leanne) is incredibly friendly and helpful.  She will do anything to help you find the perfect item for your art project.

If you're a collector of vintage ephemera, you'll love this store as much as the artists and crafters who frequent it.  Leanne keeps this eclectic shop filled with court documents from the 1800's, ledger pages from 1921, old postage stamps, vintage receipts, oriental papers, letterpress blocks, old books and amazing, inspiring new ones. She also has ......... Geotype!!!! (often called Letraset)  As far as I know, it's the only source in Vancouver for these old, rub-on letters.

I don't quite understand Reviewer Miranda's disdain for the newsletter.  It's one of the best parts of the store.  Yes, she does sometimes mention the financial challenge of keeping RubyDog's open, but that is really because she views her customers as her friends and, if they want a continuing supply of these fabulous art supplies, they will have to support her store by shopping.  She is committed to supporting small business, not just her own, and constantly directs people to other wonderful stores in Vancouver, as well as tell you why you need to frequent small businesses, not big box stores.  As well, each newsletter has a list of websites that are almost always wonderful.  You will end up spending too much time perusing the links provided, believe me!

The workshops offered here are often unique to Vancouver and, from my experience, have always been worth every penny.

RubyDog's Art House is a unique and addictive store and I cannot recommend it more highly.  Leanne always has a huge smile for everybody who comes in the front door and offers impeccable service.  Unfortunately, I think she has underpriced her wares for too long, as well as facing a location with difficult parking and a declining, local ecomony.  It looks like this little treasure may not make it to the end of the year.  Visit it while you still can!

Tucked into the quaint street that also houses the likes of Collage Collage and Spool of Thread for the crafty folk and Les Faux Bourgeois for the delicious French food folk you'll find Rubydog's Art House.

Rubydog's used to be located on Main St., then it disappeared, then it showed up again here but judging by the newsletters may go away at some point soon if we *don't all drop everything to shop with her*.

The shop is good - it's full of bizarre ephemera ranging from letterpress type to 50's holiday cards and anything at all that you might even remotely consider gluing, cutting, or sticking to a collage, altered book, or artist trading card. I suppose scrapbookers would also like this place, but I am neither a scrapbooker nor do I particularly understand the scrapbookers so we'll ignore them for now.

The stock changes frequently, and I've found a number of fun things (although, like many of my crafty finds, I haven't necessarily figured out what to do with much of it yet).

I would, however, avoid the newsletter - they're as disorganized and all over the place as the store is most of the time, but as long as you avoid that you're good.

This is a great little shop stuffed with art supplies and collectibles. Some things date back as far as the 1920s. Stamps, cards, old film and photos, match books, comic pages, bottle caps. It's great if you're a vintage freak like me. But even though the stuff is old doesn't mean you have to break the bank everything is reasonably priced, maybe too reasonably priced as you could end up buying way too much. The atmosphere is great, eclectic. The store owner is a sweet lady and she has all kinds of connections to the art world.
