Karyn and Cynthia will literally kick your arse. No joke. This studio is for the people in this world who want to see results and have someone push them to see the results. I have been spinning with these girls for over three years and I LOVE it there. I love that they do not sugar coat anything, they are completely honest and will dissect everything from what you eat to how you workout.
Their attention to form is impeccable and you will hurt after their workouts (in a good way) because they demand 100% from you during the time they have you. I completely adore these two women who have made me believe that I can have the body that I want. -
Review from Rachel B.
At some point, if there's ever a class time that works with my schedule, I would love to go back in and give RPM another shot.
I've been a woman without a spin class since I complained to the management of my local corporate gym that their classes weren't hard enough for the members who were frequenting them.
I used to spin about twice a week. I like to mix up my workouts, and I usually trail run 3-5 miles on the other 3-4 days I work out.
When I saw the RPM Groupon deal, I was extremely excited! The studio is right near where I live and I thought it was gonna be a perfect situation, so I bought it without checking the schedule first.
BIG mistake!
I like to workout after work whenever possible... and some nights I get out at 8. I always work out on Sundays, and I like working out Saturday afternoon. If your workout schedule is the opposite of mine, you may do really well here!
Unfortunately for me, there is ONE class on their schedule that I can make.
I went to that ONE class, and the instructor never turned on the AC... instead she sprayed perfume and lit a candle. Gross! the last thing I want to have invading my senses while I work out is the smell of some lady's perfume!!!!
I could have overlooked feeling physically uncomfortable during the workout, if the work out was really good, but it was fairly lackluster.
Just to make matters worse, I was never able to get anyone on the phone who actually worked there... instructors show up a few minutes before class starts, and they leave right after. I would have loved to actually speak with the women who own the place, but I don't really have a lot of free time for phone tag during the hours that RPM is open... which leads me back to the original problem.
I need an 8:15 spin class with a hard instructor!! I need a Saturday 3 PM class more than the proverbial fat kid who loves cake needs to go to the dentist!!!! I need it so bad, I'm gonna post it on the internet and hope my groupon doesn't expire in case the nice ladies at RPM spin wanna open one up for me!!!!!!!!! -

I have to reiterate what another commenter said: The owners/instructors are quite rude and abrasive. They go beyond the point of supportive pushing/encouragement. This is not to say that I'm against being pushed or challenged in my workouts. However, I draw the line at rudeness for the sake of it, especially when I'm paying for their services. Additionally, the instructors/owners did play favorites and were not all that helpful to beginners.
At one point, the instructor's mother was spinning next to me (and doing better than me, as I was new to spinning), and the instructor called me out in front of the class, asking how I felt to have her 80-year-old mother spinning next to me. I THINK she was trying to make me feel bad that her mom was better than I was, but I just responded: "Proud?" That got "aww"s from the rest of the class, while the instructor appeared to be disappointed that her dig backfired on her.
In terms of the "nutritional" part of it: Their advice pretty much consisted of "don't eat anything but vegetables". Period. One instructor went on a rant about the devils of cheese. It was weird. I tried to opt out of the nutritional part of the bootcamp I bought, but they wouldn't let me. After all this, I ended up taking maybe a handful of classes (instead of a month) before bailing. It wasn't worth it to me to force myself to workout with instructors that don't respect me (especially in a 6am class as soon as I wake up). I want to go somewhere that I'm excited about AND gives me results.
The workout itself was challenging and I'm sure clients that can tolerate the instructors and stick with it will see results. -

I thought I was a great spinner until I came to RPM and Karyn immediately commenced with correcting my technique. Karyn knows more about good form then any spin instructor I have encountered. She will work with you to perfect your form and if you can let your ego get out of the way and be committed to the task at hand; you will become a very strong, efficient healthy spinner. Karyn is an athlete and she is "creating athletes" while taking her students through the paces. I also love the "Karyn Technique" class (AKA: Butt Class). I took it for the first time last Saturday and have been sore ever since (4 days later). It's 30 minutes or so of intense glute, ham and calf exercises. If this class doesn't give me the be-donk I want; nothing will!

I came here months after buying a groupon. I have been spinning for at least 6 years and boy was I sure thrown for a loop when I came here and had my form critiqued to the point of totally having to relearn spin. This was not a bad thing, Karyn and Cynthia certainly have the bodies to show for the way they want their students to spin. They are hardcore about form here and after class I am sore all over for at least a day, which I enjoy because I know my workout wasn't a waste of time. I would recommend this studio for those that are looking to get a serious workout and don't mind being drenched in sweat when done!

Having just gotten back into spinning after a long break, I am so excited to have found RPM, thanks to a Groupon. The teachers and the other students are all incredibly friendly, and there's a great, relaxed atmosphere that makes it very non-intimidating. Classes are challenging, but everyone is encouraged to go at their own pace, and all three teachers I've taken with so far have been great about reminding me to keep my form throughout the class. I've also taken the Cardio Salsa class there, which is fun, but much less of a workout than spinning (it's part yoga and part cardio salsa, and the instructor is kinda wonderful).
Huge bonus: free onsite parking.
My only critiques are that sometimes the music can be too loud (which is often the case in spin classes), and that there's a Coffee Bean in the same plaza, so my resolve is always tested after I'm leaving class. -

Let me clear the air-
This place is not for the faint of heart, It's not for half A** workouts, don't come here for the decor or new equipment.
This place is take no prisoners, shut up and workout, results if you stick to it, fitness studio. These ladies are AzzKickers.
If you want to give money to a gym that has a "scene" the go to LA Fitness because it is a freak show circus and their trainers are the clowns
. Not for everybody but if you like the "No time for BS just give me result" and you are in this area... Well give it a try -

This is the best FITNESS STUDIO in LA in my opinion... hands down. The owners Karyn and Cynthia are serious about you acheiving your goals. They are caring and kick your a** at the same time! ha!!
I lost 40lb in 10 weeks at this gym's hard core Bootcamp. The focus on spin but the mix it up with Pilates, Cardo-kick, Yoga, Zumba and the most amazing butt lifting excercise developed my Karyn herself.
No joke. I love this place. -

So far so good!
I'm having a good time at this place.
My first class though I did not know what to make of it only because the instructor was late and I received no instructions on what to expect and how my form should be.
However, as time progressed on I have attended some fun classes, Steve, Derrick, and Sarah's classes are a pleasure to be in. They coach you to ensure your form is correct and you are feeling the work in the right places as a newcomer.
So far, no run ins. -

After six weeks at RPM, I look and feel better than I ever have before. Just to be clear: The workouts are ridiculously hard - but that's the point! The instructors are amazing at pushing you past the point you think you can go, which is why the results are so tangible.
Yes, there will be pain, but the gain is unbelievable! Go! GO! -

I bought a Living Social deal for 5 classes at RPM. Let me say, above all, I had a different instructor every time and they are all competent and have a lot of energy.
Its been hard for me to get motivated to use all of the classes for several reasons.
1. The equipment: I used a different bike each class and there was always a problem. I'd ask the instructor to help me and on 2 occasions I had to switch bikes. I think some of the bikes are past their prime.
2. Music: Music is different for each instructor but it seemed that they tried to run the gamut in song choices to try and please everyone. I generally get into Top 40, rap, alternative and rock. I can get going to Usher and Kings of Leon. The music seemed to be a little outdated (like Motown). I've taken spin classes elsewhere and it was never an issue for me. But at RPM I noticed the music, and in a bad way.
3. Location: if you live & work in LA, then this studio will likely be too far for you. Classes are before or during rush hour so it makes for a long journey from LA. When I bought the Living Social deal, I didn't mapquest the location which was a big error on my part. I'm including it, though, for those like me that checked Yelp and skipped Mapquest.
4. Spin/yoga: I've taken classes at Yaz & Train where we do 1/2 hour spin and 1/2 hour yoga. When I saw this class on the schedule, that's what got me to buy the deal. The RPM version of spin/yoga is really a full spin class with some calisthenics at the end. So, if you aren't into the Yas version of the class then this may be perfect for you. -

This was the first time I've been to a spin class outside a regular gym/health club and I was impressed with how it all went down my first time.
The studio was clean, kept a perfect temperature and has floor-to-ceiling windows on three walls facing the streets and gridlocked traffic (beat that, drivers!). Our teacher had good music choices (which is key with this type of workout) and RPM seems to focus a lot on isolation and standing up (hey, they do have a big boot camp program, they're hardcore).
Things to keep in mind:
- If you don't own your own cycling shoes that can clip in, you'll have to rent a pair for a few bucks.
- There is no drinking fountain, but they do sell water and gatorade and bikes are equipped with two water bottle holders.
- Bring your own towel, this ain't some uppity towel service place.
Will I go back? Hell yeah. -

i went to a spinning class at RPM because a girlfriend of my was ranting and raving about it. It was my 1st time and from the moment i stepped into the place and told them i was new, i felt like i was bothering them.
the teacher (and one of the owners i found out!)..was picking on me the whole time and i even caught her rolling her eyes to the more experienced students! i felt like crap...and was in SOOOO much pain for a week afterwards because i was never taught proper form.
i now attend the spinning class at the YMCA and the teacher is so nice and uplifting.
dont come here if you are new...unless you wana cry. -

The WGA's on strike, right? That means my outwardly-imposed deadlines have all gone with the wind. Still plugging away, but feeling in a rut. So when a friend passed me a tip about being in an infomercial test group which would get me 10 days of spinning class, I said, hell yes. Way to blow out the carbon!
We're spinning at RPM, a small, clean, well-equipped gym. They also have Pilates and other classes, and do more lengthy boot camps. Plenty of bikes, shoes, towels, and water; no showers, but adequate parking. Cynthia, Karyn and Stephen are excellent teachers and create a fun and very positive atmosphere, emphasizing the healthy changes we're creating for ourselves. They do subscribe to the "Eat For Your Blood Type" schtick, which, whatever, but otherwise their dietary advice is quite sound. They're not quiet; their encouragement can be loud, vocal, and tough, but their hard push gets great results. (Plus I think Karyn may be Tina Turner's love child.)
I'd never taken spinning before, except maybe at Colonial Williamsburg. After just 5 classes (remember, this is a boot-camp type deal, your results may vary), I am now up out of the saddle much of the time, feeling lighter, tighter, cleaner and meaner (I mean, more cheerful). Plus, I drink so much water that I could win any pissing contest you got! -

This is the best Spinning class I have ever taken, (well I've only gone to 3 other ones) I like Katherine as a teacher. She has great music and motivation.
I have also done the 7:30 Boot Camp. Which was great, but was a bit pricey at $500, for 4 days a week for 5 weeks. They did give us a small booklet to write out what we eat, but it seemed as though they never looked at it.
They base their plan on the Blood Type Diet, so they give you information that has to do with your blood type. It kinda makes sense. I wished that they spent more time on the nutrition part.
I also wished they had a shower for those on the go. -

Bought the living social deal and got a total of 10 classes with shoe rental. I have spun in the past but this studio really makes sure you are using correct form. I think that's very important in getting a successful work out and maintaining proper posture.
Wow! After the first class I almost threw up, which is a good thing because they worked me so hard my body was craving to get rid of bad toxins.
By the 4th class I felt comfortable enough to not take a break during the hour and I appreciated the "great jobs" and "i've really noticed a difference" that the other members and staff would tell me.
I was sweating head to toe after every workout and felt great!
I was sad to be finished with my 10th class and would definitely consider purchasing a package from there.
Steve is great and very friendly and Karen (one of the owners) really kicks your butt during spin. She ended up being my favorite instructor.
Yes, the bikes have some problems but they are always striving to replace bad parts and want to make sure you are happy at all times. -

i have been going to rpm for about three and a half years now. it is by far the best workout i can get, and i have tried everthing there is to try when it comes to exercise. I love the energy, the intensity and the music. Jeffrey B plays the best music ever. He always has fun stuff that really makes you want to move and get into it. I take his class about 4 times a week and have an absolute blast. All the trainers there whoop my butt into shape. Try it out. Just stick with it for the first five classes and you will love it!!

I've been Spinning at RPM for over 4 years and obviously love it. Each of the instructors has their own motivational style and particular music but everyone is open to suggestion if you've got a favorite song. The recent renovations rock - the exercise room is bigger, new carpets & paint and...wait for it...bathrooms! What! My fellow Spinners are like family. My name is john Wood and I approve this message. Come on down the water's fine and I look forward to meeting you!

Bodybarre is one of the circles of Hell from Dante's Inferno.
Basically, it was an hour of high-intensity butt work. We did a variation of a lunge, then a leg lift, then a lunge over and over for what felt like eternity... all in a sweltering room.
I thought the class would be similar to The Bar Method or Cardio Barre, one of the techniques based on the Lotte Burke Method.
Oh no. The only thing they have in common is the barre. However, this one was rickety and unstable, which added an element of fear to the class.
I really wanted to like the class. The instructors were pleasant--not to mention amazing-looking. But Bodybarre was just plain torture. I'm in good shape, as I already strength train, hike and do Pilates on a regular basis. I'm not complaining because I'm a wimp. But it's been two days and I'm still sore, and not a good sore.
I've heard amazing things about their spinning and boot camp, but Bodybarre was pure hell. -

This place is a hard core spinning gym. I am not sure if you are a beginner you will like the classes. I love them, however I wish more attention would be paid to the unexperienced spinner. Also, the front desk staff seemed to be inexperienced. The place is clean, cool and plenty of parking. Watch their web site for "free first time spinning class."

I went to RPM very excited to start. The spin class there was horrible. The music was bad, bright room, the instructor set me bike up wrong. I was uncomfortable the entire class. About 3 min before the class was over came over to me , asked me why my bike was like that and if I had ever spinned before! I told her it was her instructor that set it up! Well then I got major attitude. Anyway I would never go back. The best spin class is THE BURN in Burbank.

I'm going to be generous and give it 3 stars. I took a spinning/yoga class. I liked the instructor, however, the gym itself is another story. The studio looked like it was in need of repair. The bikes were showing their age. The paint was chipping off the walls. No restrooms inside, just changing rooms. No lockers. It just seemed like a very chaotic space. It has potential, but I don't plan on spending any more money at this place. If you're looking for a good spinning class try Gold's in Hollywood, or Up Dog in West Hollywood.

I'd give this place 2.5 stars. They play the music SO loud that you can hear it from a block away (no joke). Imagine what it is like to be sitting in there while it is blaring--and it is usually a terrible mix of music, especially in the Friday evening class. Mostly, the classes are fine--perfunctory spin classes that they try to keep interesting by adding tons of jumping and climbs. It's not creative and the studio isn't run particularly well. I keep expecting it to go out of business because the sisters than run it just don't seem to really care that much. They are both very sassy too. Not that it is necessarily a bad thing, just a little off putting to an outsider--they seem to play favorites, which is just weird in a business situation such as this one. Since the Coffee Bean opened, parking is much more difficult in the underground lot. Also, if you have spin shoes that have the spd clips, you almost can't use them here. While their pedals have an attachment for them, some how the clips have been attached so that it is almost impossible to get them to clip into the pedals. That's aggravating.
