After recently moving to kits and searching for a pho place close to home on yelp I found myself at Royal Restaurant. I was impressed with the broth and the quality of rare beef. A good bowl for sure. However, what was really nice about Royal is how friendly Linh and Lana are who have recently started working at Royal taking over while their aunts take a break from the restaurant. So for the regulars out there it's still the same chef just new faces in the front. If your looking for good pho and friendly staff definitely try out Royal!

It's a good place considering the area and for those who don't want to venture into the better pho places on Kingsway/Fraser, etc.

Ordered the beef balls & trite pho soup, hit the spot more or less but wouldn't repeat.  Rather drive a bit more out to East Van to get much better quality, just won't go as late lol.  It's not as flavourful as I've tasted...

Parking's a challenge since there's many businesses sharing the parking, Starbucks, All-west insurance, etc.

I go here every couple weeks with a co-worker as it's the closest pho' place to my work.   The young man and woman working are always friendly and prompt, food quality is consistently fresh.  I have had better pho' broths, but I still enjoy going here as it is good value for your money.  The vegetable noodle soup is full of vegetables, I'm not a vegetarian but I will recommend that one to those who love vegetables and their peanut sauce (for dipping salad rolls into!) is the best of any pho' place I have been to!
    There's free parking, too.

Go spicy or go home - it is what they do best here.
Very fresh food with a rich broth.

I love pho, but what makes me love pho even more is when it forms the recipe for the perfect hangover food.

That would be a venue completely void of any originality or character, incredibly uncomfortable chairs, speedy service and a full meal for under $10.  Combined with fresh food you get Royal!

Service is fast, the women I've seen are always nice and the food is a-ok!

I have only tried one thing on the menu, as interesting as the rest looks I suggest the rare beef noodle soup.

Great in snow, rain or shine!

Super delicious pho! A couple of dollars more than other pho places we like but worth it. The chili oil/paste on the tables is especially good here, lob it on:)

    Delicious, go for it!

Let me start off by saying that there is a magic line in Vancouver.  Some call it the divide between Vancouver East and Vancouver West.  I call it the decent Vietnamese food divide.  So with trepidation and a thought of, "I know better than this" I wandered into the newish Royal Restaurant.  This place used to be a 24 hour take-out Chinese restaurant.  It now has shorter hours, different owners, and Vietnamese food.

Looking over the pho choices there were no options with tendon or tripe.  I guess those aren't allowed west of the line.  There were also a large number of options that contained Vietnamese ham (which you don't see as an option too often on the other side of the line).  I ordered the house special pho, which came with rare beef, brisket and beef balls.

I had a glimmer of hope when the condiments arrived.  The sprouts and basil looked very fresh, and there was a generous chunk of fresh lime.  No chili peppers, but they did have Vietnamese chili sauce in a ketchup squeeze bottle on the table.

The soup arrived, and it had a very generous amount of both noodles and beef.  The rare beef was already all cooked, unfortunately, and was a bit chewier than at some other places.  The brisket was nicely tender though.  The beef balls were slightly overcooked as well, but had nice seasoning.  The noodles were not overcooked and had the right amount of chew.  The broth itself was flavourful (perhaps enhanced by a generous amount of MSG), and not overly greasy.  If I got this pho east of the line I would probably not return.  But compared to the other options in this part of the city, it probably would be my choice.

Service was very friendly as well.

I was searching for a good Pho place that didn't require me to drive super far and my cousin suggested Pho Royal in our neighbourhood. Imagine my complete delight when it turns out to serve delicious Pho soup, but is run by the sweetest ladies who always remember me and know that I like extra cilantro in my soup and that my boyfriend loves the peanut sauce for his salad rolls.
It's become a true gem in the hood, and I love that I can eat there for less than $10.
Lunch crowds are busy but dinnertime it's easy to get a seat.

I order rice dishes from here all the time!  It's quick, tasty and the portions are large for me.

I am a picky Pho eater so I don't usually have the Pho here.  It's ok and safe for beginners to Pho.  I head to East Van for the broth:)  Their broth is clear and light though.

OMG, this place is hella cheap!!!!  I couldn't believe my friend and I paid less than 20 bucks (including tax and tip) for two huge shrimp salad rolls and 2 big bowls of house special beef pho.  Didn't think that is possible for a restaurant that is tucked between Kits and Downtown.

The food was pretty good, definitely not bad.  I was really full and satisfied.

For those Kits and Yaletown folks, myself included, who want a good bowl of Pho without the commute, this is the place. As other have mentioned, it is not the best Pho in Vancouver. Far from it. But compared to your other options when you'd rather walk than drive, the food is good, the prices are reasonable and the couple that runs the restaurant is delightful.

My biggest pet-peeve with Pho is poor quality beef, but from my dozen or so experiences here, I am happy to report that the beef has always been good and the soup remarkably consistent. And as we all know, consistency seems to be a difficult feat for most local Vietnamese restaurants.

If you want outstanding Pho, head East. If you want a solid bowl of soup without leaving the neighbourhood, you will be pleasantly surprised here.

Yes there are better Pho places on Kingsway, East Vancouver or Richmond but this could be the only place that serves up good Pho west of Granville. So far have checked out this place twice. First time we picked up some lemon grass chicken and albeit it was good, it did not rival that of Saigon Pacific *formerly known as Lan's* but their Pho is up to par compared to the Pho Lans, Hoas, Thai Sonses....the broth tasted like it was a result of a long boil. The Pho came with all the fixins, ya know sprouts, basil, peppers, lemon etc. the works! It was hearty and tasty and definitely my goto place for Pho near da hood. I hope to try their avocado shake next time, it looks at me seductively from the take out menu screaming buy me I'm only a million calories. I hear you avocado shake, next time.

It is pretty decent. A little bit cramped, but I guess it needs to be as nearly all the tables were full. Quick and friendly service.

I'll preface this by saying that when I go out for Pho I am not looking for ambience, classy decor or good spelling on menus.  I just want tasty, not greasy rare beef soup and some spring rolls.  I got them both here.  As for the spelling on the menu - it's entertaining!  This place is walking distance from home so we really wanted it to be good.  I was skeptical as the pictures in the menu aren't super appetizing.  The spring rolls thankfully look nothing like their pic.  They were so delicious, non-greasy with just the right amount of chewiness.  The rare beef noodle soup was also just right.  I love ripping up the basil leaves and dumping the plate of bean sprouts into the soup.  The noodles were a perfect texture, the beef was tender and the broth was flavourful.  $20 later we were both stuffed, content, sated.  We'll be back for sure.  They do delivery so we'll likely give that a try too.
