My Grandmother had surgery heart surgery here and spent some time before-during-after in the Heart Section of the new building. I wasn't a patient thankfully but I'm writing this on behalf of her and also based on my experience as a guest.
My Grandmother is a very stubborn and picky woman, so considering that, I have to say that she absolutely was gleaming with admiration for the treatment she received while in the hospital.
Firstly. She is claustrophobic and the staff were extremely flexible giving her the best room and bed possible to ensure she was comfortable. She was given a larger room with a bed next to a window with lots of space outside. She had one other patient in the room and they kept each other company well in the few times that she didn't have family visiting.
She was more than happy with the nursing and doctor staff, saying that they were all more than helpful and super friendly.
She loved the food (the most surprising part) and always enjoyed her meals, even looking forward to them.
She is writing a letter to the Times Colonist expressing her thanks for the great treatment she received while at the hospital.
As for me, I visited often and the new building is clean, easy to navitage (mostly) and the staff throughout the building were friendly, helpful and very approachable.
The visitor hours are very generous and the rooms have areas to sit and visit.
So if you or a friend or family member are slated to go here pending surgery or other reasons, rest assured that you or they will be in good hands.
