Though I didn't eat all that much as I was there j ust for drinks, it's definitely worth going back in terms of overall atmosphere & entertainment. Spacious, great pub & enough TV's, but would have to say the menu was a bit more expansive, with some Indian flair to it.
I ordered the deep fried ribs, pretty tasty and came w/ a yummy sweet, almost jupna? sauce that had a really good kick to it.
Plus another reason to go back is on some nites, they have live band, karokee, so would be a nice joint out in Kitsilano. -

I came with a group of gals for a friend's birthday, and we all ordered the Friday night special: 6 oz. NY Strip steak and garlic prawns for only $14! What a steal! And to top it off, the food was pretty decent.
I have to admit, we had pretty low expectations for this place when we first arrived, plus it didn't help when some guy sitting at the bar kept staring at our table. But shortly after he left and when the food arrived, we had a pretty good time. We're all big fans of jazz, so when the live jazz band started playing in the background, we enjoyed the evening just chattin' away.
All in all, we'd probably come back for another night of live jazz. It's a great place to go if you still want to carry on with normal conversation. Oh, and did I mention that we all thought the older gentleman singing the tunes was simply adorable? -

This place motivated me to make an account with yelp and leave a review...
Awful service...and the food was worse. Went to Rowans with a group of 4 people....not exactly a massive table. First drink took 40 minutes to appear...at which point we ordered food....3 out of the 4 meals eventually arrived...over 1 hour later. The missing burger (complicated dish !) never showed up which we ended up cancelling. The veg on the main steak dish was crappy frozen food, prawns were tasteless, steak not cooked properly. Our bill took so long to arrive we had to walk over to the exit and ask to pay.
There are far better places within a block of here...will never go again -

I visited Rowan's Roof at about 5pm on a Thursday and there was only one guy running the joint - serving AND bartending. He did alright. The beer and wine is cheap, which is nice, but I don't know that there's anything else that's special about this place. Patio is pretty tacky but I got some sun and had a great view of Safeway. I had the seasonal Central City berry beer for only $5/sleeve. Can't complain about that. I will probably not be back.

Came here for an open mic on a Wednesday night. Hands down the worst open mic I've ever been to. Didn't eat anything though. The beer selection on tap was pretty small, with no brews worth mentioning. The service was a bit slow. It looked like there was a pretty nice patio that'd be great on a warm day or even a warm night (which it was) but it was closed. Overall, I would never go out of my way to go to this place. Maybe if I was in the neighbourhood and wanted to sit in the sun and have a beer I'd pop in, though there's plenty of places with a better beer selection nearby.

This place is a treasure if you like going to bars with big groups of friends. They have tons of space and the servers are awesome! The Friday night jazz band is also pretty awesome, if a bit oldtimey.

The food there is not outstanding but above average. Good place to hang out with some friends and listen or watch the entertainment. I was there on a Friday to listen to some live jazz. The group there was pretty good which made up for the somewhat dated decor. With the food and entertainment being pretty decent, it's too bad that the place wasn't bustling. That put a bit of a damper since there wasn't the sense of energy in the place that a restaurant filled with patrons normally brings. It's one of those restaurants that, if you're looking good food and entertainment and happen to be in the area it is one to consider. However, I wouldn't go out of my way to go there.

B - List. Food is good. Ambiance is dark and somewhat dated. Service was excellent. You need to climb a bunch of stairs to get to the dining area. All in all, a good place to go. There is not enough momentum here to beckon most patrons to return. Use the Groupon and move on to your next destination. Cheers.

Came here to celebrate passing my seminar. The atmosphere was quite nice. They have a good sound system because the jazz they were playing sounded like there was an actual live jazz band around the corner of where we were sitting. We sat by the fireplace, which was very warm and inviting.
They have $5 glasses of Bear Flag wine (house wine) which I remembered being delicious from one of the Yelp Elite events, so I ordered that. The menu was typical pub fare. We got some nachos to munch on. They were delicious, but they only give a tiny cup of salsa and sour cream. They only charge $0.50 for an extra one, but I shouldn't have to ask for an extra one. I mean, I know I like my sauce, but 1 oz of salsa isn't enough for anyone.
One things I notice, and is something for gluten-free people to be careful of is that the nachos have deep-fried flour tortilla chips in them as well as corn flour. It might be hard to pick them out because the lighting is dim and they blend in with the regular tortilla chips.
Our server was very nice, and attentive. I would totally come back to this warm and cozy restaurant.Listed in: Na'cho mama's nachos!

Went for the first Stanley Cup Finals game. It was super crowded and under-staffed, but the staff there were extremely nice and we could tell that they were doing their best.
Beers were cheap and their special of the day (chicken wings) were DELICIOUS! There were many flavours to choose from and were only $0.40 a piece!
Apart from being understaffed, it was a great place to go! Would definitely go back again! -

Went to Rowan's Roof for Urban Improv on Monday night ($8) and it was fantastic. Drank some cheap but chocolatey Californian wine (Bear Claw I think it was called)...too much actually...and kicked back in some big sofas in front with my friends. Ended up being super interactive. Everyone was so good at Improv - big groups would come on at once - some famous faces too - worth every dollar. Will be back to try the menu too...some fun things to choose from, and hopefully enjoy the rooftop patio when warmer weather permits.

I shop at the produce shop below Rowan's Roof all the time so i decided to give it a try. we arrived to a very empty room with a nice atmosphere and reasonable prices. it could have used a few more customers, but our drinks arrived promptly, the food was decent, and the prices were ok. all in all, nothing to write home about, but no reason to stay away.

I went here with a bunch of friends for an Improv night. It was a bit slow and not a big crowd probably due to the weather. The place has a warm ambiance with a few comfy couches to hang back in a group. They have an outdoor patio as well. They have a few local brews on tap. The drinks are not pricy and have daily specials. Their menu is basic pub grub and is pretty good. Overall, I'd go here again to hang out with a group of friends, especially for their comedy night.
