this is the first recreation center i saw in canada, and it was a culture shock. in the us, community centers are generally only in the ghetto and are usually poorly funded. the ones i saw in canada were clean and updated, and had activities for people of all ages. this one had karate, salsa dancing, a bday party, beer tasting, and basketball going on all at once. it also had a cafe and nice outdoor plaza/stage. i was in awe.

I've seen many shows at the RH mainly produced by my sis. I've always liked the space as it's big enough to accommodate a large crowd but is always intimate. I also took a wood working course several years ago that was pretty kick arse despite the grade 3-like bookshelf I made. Wonder where that thing is...must have ditched it in the alley at some point.
Anyhoo, there's also a coffee spot and I always see a wide range of people, old, young, annoying, cute etc. I think the RH acts well as a community centre and brings Vancouverite together for great events like all the solstice celebrations. Go check it out...always something going on. -

Bored on a Wednesday night, I opted to check out a rock show at the Roundhouse. The theatre is a staple of Yaletown, the train in the window draws peers all year long.
The space is fantastic, the interior classy and the acoustics decent. The concert doubled as an art show. The size of Roundhouse was ample for band and art.
The sound hardly smacked my eardrums as I enjoy, but I got the gist of it. There is a bevy of various events here throughout the year, appealing to a wide array of tastes. Keep an eye on the schedule here. Although I find many of the events to be mundane, occasionally, as in last Wednesday, I can be pleasantly impressed. -

The first thing most people notice about Roundhouse is the big train on display in the glass building. It's the first transcontinental train to pull into Vancouver. Pretty neat, huh?
The community center is a really nice spot to catch some art. I went for an exhibit with some really interesting pottery and glass work.
As far as the recreation facilities- there is an indoor gym area. I've never explored that area. I believe there's memberships available as well as guest rates. -

Nice community center ! You get a real sense for the local community. There are art exhibits and a theater where you can attend the occasional lecture.
There's a decent little cafe in the middle... and a much needed public restroom, who needs more? hmmm.... maybe some improved outside seating would be nice.
