I was savagely hungry this morning, which really bled into the lunch hour, so I stopped by Round-Up and was not disappointed.

I got the "Slider" which has two cabbage rolls, ukranian sausage and half dozen pan fried perogies. When it came out I was underwhelmed by the portion, but by the time I was done (about 5 minutes) I was full.

It was VERY tasty, the service was great during a busy time, and next time I will be getting a breakfast dish.

For a non-descript place in Surrey, it's easy to park on King George right in front of the restaurant, it's clean inside, and the price is fair.

    I will definitely RETURN!

First of all... I wanted to give this place 3.5 stars as 3 wasn't generous enough and 4 felt like too much.. however they get 4.

saw this place on yelp and had a good star rating so my partner and i decided to try it as it in our neighbourhood.

The ambiance around the diner seems very clean and welcoming. the staff was rather welcoming as well. Although, I have to say the waitress ( only 1 on staff) seemed very overwhelmed with the amount of people she had to serve. There was also 2 girls wiping down tables and cleaning up but not taking orders this, to me, seems like they could have as the 1 waitress was very rushed and overwhelmed. In other words.. don't go to this place if your looking to be in an out in under an hour. Service is mediocre at best, but the staff is very friendly and delightful.

Lets get to the reason I gave this place... the food. It was excellent breakfast. I ordered the french toast slam and it was cooked perfectly, the toast was good with an array of condiment selections. Eggs were done well, but not perfect but its nothing to get in a tizzy over. Also, I ordered bacon instead of ham & sausage and it didn't taste well ( tasted old and past its best) and I wanted it cooked crispy which it wasn't. This was the only problem I had with them. I didn't really care for sending it back as I was more excited about the actual french toast.

My partner ordered eggs benny with a side of mushrooms and he was quite happy. He did say he found a smokey background taste but again nothing to get in a tizzy over.

Overall, this place is great for atmosphere and the food is decent. The price isn't the greatest but its not the worst I've seen, especially for Vancouver area. Ive been to much worse places with higher prices.

Go to this place if your in the area.

    50s Style Diner in Surrey

I happened to pass this cute place omw to Safeway. I did some shopping then headed back to try it out. I'm glad I did, because it's a locals-only gem in the neighborhood.

I read all the reviews praising the "Slider" so I gave it a try. It was pretty solid; two tangy cabbage rolls, fried Ukrainian sausage and a half dozen pan fried perogies.

They have an open-look kitchen so you can see them make it to order. I was happy that they didn't overcook the perogies. Everything in that dish is homemade, and it's great to see a family-owned diner surviving.

They have a lot of interesting things on the menu. I'd categorize it as an Eastern European dinner with American 1950's flair. The customer service is good, and they even have a pie rack!

    I'd recommend it to others.

Very tasty, the price is a bit high, but overall very good.  I got the "Slider" namely for the pan fried perogies, but was actually more impressed by the cabbage rolls.  Big, filling, full of hamburger and rice, covered in a tangy tomato sauce.  They were great.  The sausage and perogies were also quite good too.

    Left full and happy.

I did smack my knee on the booth table leg getting in and out, so just watch out for that.

I'm glad we finally ventured into the Round-Up Cafe. This place is a diamond in the rough - the rough being Whalley. But this little diner on King George Highway is cute and cool and clean, with it's speckled vinyl booths and central lunch counter and walls adorned with baseball memorabilia, including pictures of the Little League teams the restaurant sponsors.

Service was fast and friendly, and the food was great. I tried one of the Ukrainainan plates (cabbage rolls, sausage, and perogies) while my husband had that diner classic, Reuben with fries. His sandwich dripped with sauerkraut, and the fries were crispy and perfect with vinegar. My cabbage roll was just like I remembered it - slightly sweet, with a tang of tomato sauce.

You can always tell the real diners from the retro-wannabes, I've noticed, by the presence of a particular nationality's cuisine on the menu, be it Ukrainian, Greek, or even Chinese. This place is of the real old school - around since 1949, and with the same family owning it since 1959. Obviously, they know what they're doing.

    Cabbage rolls!  Delicious.

The prices were a bit high but the food was pretty good.  We ordered a half order of the slider ($7), eggs benny ($11) and a bowl of borscht ($6) and it was $30 after taxes but before tip.

If you can get there before 11am, they have a breakfast special for $7 which I think I'll try next time but you can't go wrong with the Ukrainian food.  It's hearty.

I've worked in the neighbourhood for 10 years and finally got to the Round-Up this year. I love its old-school diner charm (a bit worn-looking, but still neat) and that it's managed to survive for so long in a rough area. It's a great local, community-oriented business.

The first time I had their good Monte Cristo sandwich with a nice salad and the second time my husband and I had their yummy, lemony-Hollandaise Eggs Benedict. My only criticism is that they seem to charge an awful lot for non-refillable, rather small glass of pop, so stick with water or coffee. Otherwise... we can't wait to go back and try the perogies!
