I couldn't agree more with Cait M. in that the R & C in Banff deserves 5 stars. I was here a few weeks ago and I had a FANTASTIC time.
The location is ideal - helloooo, it's IN Banff people! - and the drinks, snacks and food are delicious.
The staff is extremely friendly and what I love most about this place is the vibe. Everyone is just here to have a good time.
I definitely agree (again) with Cait M. - bypass the dining section and eat in the lounge! By the time the night wraps, chances are that you'll have a few more friends than you did when you first arrived ;) -

Ducked in here for a quick drink with the Hubby - he was thrilled they had Kokanee Gold on tap (did I mention he is also Canadian)? I had vodka and 7-up with a splash of cranberry and the bill came to around $14 plus tip. (my drink left me tipsy - definitely a strong pour). They have at least 10 beers on tap including Strong Bow Cider, Carlsburg and Stella.
We sat at the bar and chatted with the friendly barkeep and stole an hour for ourselves before joining the rest of the family for dinner. I liked that there were locals here - not sure how they felt about us but I always like going to a place a local likes to drink at. Hubby wanted to head back for a Snake Bite - next time... -

I like this Rose & Crown as a starting place for the night. It's big, and has lots of tables and room however I find later on in the evening they let way too many people in here and it gets pretty crowded. As it is with ever bar ever, the douchbag population seems to get a little overwhelming in here sometimes. This R&C is usually where we go for a few drinks at the beginning of the night before we make our way down the strip. Haven't had the food but it smelled pretty good

Headed to the Rose & Crown after a day of geocaching around the Banff town site. Shared a delicious plate of nachos and drinks with friends.
Thoughts of avoiding the place may cross your mind if your legs are killing you after a day on the hill; The stairs to get up to the pub may discourage you - do it anyway - the food, drinks, and fun atmosphere will dull the pain in no time!
Had a few problems with the food (reason it's a 4) but the server response and actions were great (reason it's not a 3). -

I've only been here twice, and like every place in Banff, it's really expensive to kick it here. However, they offer excellent pub food and cold drinks. From time to time, they even bring in local and national rock acts to pump up the volume.
The place has a rustic, woody feel and like any good pub, there isn't too much light. The service is pretty quick and the staff are always super-polite.
Some of the locals you bump into here can be real jerks. Just make sure you bring grenades. -

The Banff Rose and Crown has the best rooftop patio I've ever sipped a beer on. It's completely surrounded by mountains in every direction.
The food's okay here and the service is typically good, even when it gets busy. Their barstaff are pros and know how to pour some good beverages.
I've never had a bad experience here and they even have some live music from time to time. Great pub to check out in Banff.... -

I can't say enough good things about this bar.
As a tourist (California), I wanted to go out the last night or two in town and really hang out. Fulfill my childhood dream of listening to Rush in a Canadian jukebox.
First night, a Wednesday, I went there on a recommendation of Wild Bill's across the street. Couldn't stay there all night, you know. It satisfied my base needs... enough TV's so that I could get my hockey game on, enough of a selection of beers and food. The bar is huge... many rooms, several bars (I didn't see upstairs/patio), and a smaller "den" with TV's, pool, and another smaller bar. And of course, service.
That deserves it's own page. It's ALL about the service. The bartender I met had to be the coolest ever. He went far out of his way to see that I had a great time, including introducing me to other people/locals there, and buying me a few drinks. Even a few Teal drinks that weren't for my Sharks but for his Leafs. Funny thing was, I was wearing a Flames jersey... got a lot of crap for that, well deserved.
Next night I returned with the folks and watched another Sharks game, and ordered dinner. Really enjoyed it. Apparently one cannot get beef anything less that well done in Calgary, but that wasn't an issue as it wasn't dry. Everything was really decent. Watched a band which was really really good. Lots of people dancing and just plain having fun. No douchebaggery. A slight WTF moment with the hot bartender and the dreadlock white guy boyfriend, but who am I to judge. I suppose Banff being a nicer tourist town makes everything nicer, but everyone was as fun as anywhere else.
Canada, your beer sucks. Sorry, I'm from the center of Craft Beer heaven in San Diego, so maybe I'm used to real 8%+ IPA's... but the Big Rock Ale sufficed. Separate issue, wasn't impressed by Canadian beers until I had the IPA and Barley Wine from Grizzly Paw. Brewery. Keith's IPA should have the IPA stricken from it. Like ordering Guiness and getting a Zima. But not your fault, Rose and Crown.
End of review. I had such an amazing vacation in Canada, and nights like these really make you fall in love with the town and the people and give you something to remember for a very very long time. Big thanks to the staff, both on duty and off for making this trip so memorable.
Get a hold of me so I can send you guys some SD beers to try out. See pic. -

Rose & Crown is a fun place with a friendly atmosphere. They are two sides to this place that could easily be described as 2 separate floors.
One side holds a dance floor and a stage that was being worked by a local band and they had everyone going. The other side is more laid back atmosphere where you can play pool and just chat.
It's a great pub and we had a great time here. -

This is a great place, even on a quiet Friday at lunch when you're 'kickin' it" with your hubby and kids! Great beers on tap and amazing comfort food; especially good on a -20 degree Celsius day. We had the Elk stew, fish & chips, mac & cheese, and bison burger. All were very yummy!

You have to get the french onion soup here! The pastry on top will make you never want to cheat on their french onion soup ever again. Great place to watch a game and there is a fireplace you can have a beer next to. Skip the dining area and hang out at the bar section with your friends. This is my first stop when I make it back up to Banff.

had many a great night in here, great local band played and everyone was fun. I spent several hours here on several occasions some of the others complained about drink prices but at the time the US dollar made it pretty reasonable to drink there. Cool fireplace to relax by on winter nights. A must do for the bar hopping type.

If $6.75 pints of beer are your thing, you've found the right place! Great food and service, but drink prices are jacked high, even for banff. There's a lot of bars in town with food just as good, priced much more reasonably. If live music is a must however, this is where to be.

I ordered the Elk Stew. My wife went for the Pacific Salmon dish. both were excellent and portions weren't small by any means! We sat on the patio and the scene was very nice. Great place.

The other poster was right--Canadian beer is terrible. That being said, the bar has a friendly atmosphere and on Tuesdays they have $2 tacos. I liked those tacos. We also thought the fish and chips was tasty. Nachos looked good, but there's only so much I can eat.

Great pub atmosphere and it's fairly large. Drink prices weren't the best, but hey you're in Banff. Fish and Chips were good, not great.
