Ahh Roots- my go-to brand for lazy weekend days when I'm just out getting groceries or playin' with my dog, and cool nights when I wanna just chillax and watch some Grey's reruns.
This Roots store is pretty big, not quite as big as what I've seen in Ontario, but I'm thinking this place has to be the biggest of its kind in HFax. And it's got a great layout- you know how some stores are kinda bland from the outside, and you sorta think to yourself "umm, maybe not"?. Not this Roots- the design is open and inviting, and the window displays are enough to lure you in and make you want to buy stuff.
Thrifty shoppers might want to shield their eyes for a moment--- expect to pay 60$ plus for sweats and hoodies. Here's the good news though- the stuff you buy here is really durable, so the investment is definitely worth it in the long run. And it's warm too- if I'm out walking my pooch in minus degree temperatures, I pull on a pair of my fleecy, snuggly Roots sweats and go to town. Plus, they're ridiculously comfy, so they're great for active endeavors or for lounging comfortably when you feel like being a couch potato. Very versatile.
If you're into a more dressier vibe, take a peek at their selection of knits and leather products- again, they're not cheap per se, but they last- which in my books makes it worth the price. They have a pretty generous selection of wallets and belts and nice knit accessories (at one store I frequented in Ottawa, they had leather Iphone cases- didn't notice them at this location, but if you own an Ipod/phone, keep an eye out for them- they're sweet!)
This store has A LOT of marketing- very few items don't feature the signature beaver logo or the "Roots" label on them. Ladies, you'll notice the Roots stamped on the rear of pretty much every pair of sweat pants- I guess it's kinda their trademark... So shoppers who tend to feel like a walking ad when wearing brand-name clothes might not feel comfy in all of Roots attire. That said, I noticed a lot of their winter coats are pretty subtle, so I guess you just have to really browse around and you'll still find something you like. -

They say that you get what you paid for and at Roots that is the case. I gotta say that the quality of their leather is amazing. The thickness and the weight of the products lets you know that you are purchasing a great product. I can say that they are pricey but they will last forever.
As for the cloths I was never really a big fan of the Roots symbol bring largely displayed across my chest but I do love the sweat pants. Again the quality of the material is fabulous as it is something that will not show its washing as it is made with a quality product.
I wish that they would have more sales on the stuff especially the leather purses. -

I was back in at Roots on the weekend and was pleased to discover that the store had a customer appreciation event going on whereby, everything in the store was 25% off.
With Christmas approaching I decided to take advantage and buy some gifts. Unfortunately , I felt that even with the discount much of the clothing and accessories were still way over priced, for example, a woman's basic hoodie was $98 before tax - still landing it at $80+ after tax. I did, however, walk away with some children's clothing that was just simply too cute to pass up.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Roots has a great quality clothing. I have purchased Hoodies from here.
The clothes don't seem to wear out and keep their shape after many washings.
The selection is not overly large, pretty much the same things for clothes.
I do have a great backpack from roots that has lasted through many a ventures. It is still in great shape, and I get compliments on it.
This location is not the largest, but easy to get to for the downtown core. -

This Roots does a pretty good job of pulling people off the street with their creative store front designs. I especially like the Electra retro style bikes in their most recent displays.
I do find the pricing at Roots a little outrageous. I agree with Krista L too, what's with the 'Made in China'??? I am completely willing to pay more for fair trade products but $50 sweatpants that were likely made in a sweat shop? That's a hefty mark up!
I was pretty disappointed to see that the winter coat i've mentioned to Mark for xmas, isn't actually made in Canada. Pretty irritating considering Roots really markets itself based on the 'Canadian made' image.
Overall, check out Roots for some high quality products. Don't assume that your 2010 olympic wool sweater with the massive maple leaf on it was made in Canada though. Roots does have store wide sales for the next couple days. 25% off everything. -

Roots has evolved from the days of branded sweatshirts and stretch pants to match. Walking into Spring Garden Place, this medium sized location gave me a bit of a surprise in its range of style and fashions.
It seems the store has branched out into more style worthy territory. By no means is this a trip for the relentless fashionista, but Roots does an impressive job in matching their sporty perspective with a new, stylish flare.
Current trends pop up throughout, with small leather satchels that are perhaps inspired by vintage, but maintain the patent sporty edge. Breathable fabrics are on point with the latest workout/ outdoor gear on the market, and offer some great looks. Everyday apparel appears current and fresh.
I always passed Roots off as dated, but this store continues to thrive. Its a spot not to overlook if you're a fan of conservative-sport style, but with a fresh spin. -

Great clothes, just don't need the logo on everything.
I like Roots clothes. Their prices are about as expensive as you could charge for a "Hoodie" or t-shirt, but sometimes they have deals. Roots has branded themselves a very Canadian store. I mean, they have a Beaver as part of their logo. How much more Canadian can one get? Yes, a Beaver playing hockey is more Canadian its true.
The staff at this store are generally nice. I would rank them about average. Sometimes I catch them showing how stressed out they are if they are busy so there room for improvement but overall they are pretty good.
As for the clothes, I have purchased t-shirts, belts and jogging pants from them from time-to-time. But they were always times when I had more than enough money to spend on anything and I didn't have to worry about budgeting. Because you can actually get the same thing for a lot less elsewhere, just without the Roots logo. And I'm not a "brand" fan so I don't like advertising a store on my clothes. But I have purchased clothes from them before because I like them, the quality is great and sometimes I can find a deal. So check it out, but don't expect to save money coming here. -

This is one of my favourite Roots stores - I like the bright airiness of the windows letting in all the natural light. This was one of my first places to shop when I was looking for yoga gear a couple of years ago.
The staff here are very helpful and willing to dig for sizes. I've never had anything other than friendliness and pleasantness from these staffmembers - everyone has a rough day, but not these folks!
When my kids were little, I used to buy them matching Roots sweatshirts every Christmas - until they grew up and told me that wasn't cool anymore! These days I tend to select varying styles (but I still miss those younger days when I'd get pictures of them matching!).
Roots makes an quality product at a fair price. It's always good to be able to support a national enterprise that has become an international success. -

Compared to the other Roots I've been to in Vancouver, this one is a smallish location with more of an emphasis on athletic wear than fashion items. Men, women and babies are all catered to here, though, so everyone is welcome. Prices are standard, meaning moderate, but deals can definitely be found on the sales rack. Near the checkout desk you'll find a small selection of leather purses and wallets, too. Service is friendly and without pressure.
