Oh man, I really like it here. It's kind of a cool ambience inside, and they opened the windows to the street because it was a nice evening. The service was attentive and chill. They gave my friend a free birthday shot and their drink specials were really good. The regular priced drinks are fairly cheap too.
I'm not sure why they made Johnson C buy food. Doesn't sound right at all... This is definitely a bar first and foremost. I don't think I'd eat here.
I've only been once, but I've decided to actively try to become a regular. -

Okay - so here's the deal: $1.59 for the Thursday beer special (I guess it was $1.50 before and $1.55 later) - 10 oz of Granville Island Lager. Kinda small and not my favourite beer... but I guess it's a pretty good deal... but then again, there are some $3 - $4 full size beer specials around town to be had (similar volume/price ratio). They allow you to order up to 2 beers per person at a time... and they have pretty good shot specials (i.e. 4 'shots' of Jameson for $20... although I'm not sure why you would want to shoot Jameson). Bar is pretty chill and there's a noticeable lack of pretension and there's plenty of TVs everywhere - everyone was here just slamming back beer after beer...
... but here's the catch: I got 4 (mini) beers deep before the waitress told me that we had to order something before she can keep serving me - since they are licensed as a restaurant. Ugh - this is pretty similar to many of the 'restaurants' on Granvile and even Guu... I guess it's not a big deal, but when I'm drinking I like to keep it strictly as liquid meal. It's kinda like a juice diet... just far unhealthier, more fun and the model spokesperson has the body of a champion... darts player.
Anyways - the cheapest menu item is $6 for fries... (Guu has a semi-secret $3 item just to skirt around the licensing restriction)... the require food order is like a damned tax... the $7 chili aioli yam fries were decent. But honestly - no one is here for the food.
But cheap Thursdays (if you're gonna nosh anyways) and definitely a good joint to get your drink on... either some wicked fun (Whoo! Getting soused on Thursdays!) or pretty sad (Whoo! Getting soused on Thursdays!).Listed in: A Compendium of Fine…

Stopped by once with a few friends, and we saw the $1.50 beer sign. WAH!?
And yeah shots were cheapo too! WAH!?
Didn't really eat, just munched on nachos which were pretty good, I'm a nacho fanatic so ya it passed for me. Did someone say nachos?
Beer was not watered down and it was nice and cold just how I like it. They should have one of these closer to my house :( I've always wanted a place where everybody knows my name.
PRICE: Cheeeaaaap. $1.50 come on! And cheap liquor shots, none of it watered down. I've had full price shots watered down on me, this place takes the cake for cheap drinks. And I like the pay per glass style instead of the cheap pitcher pub style. That way your beers stays cold and you can mix it up with different beers.
SERVICE: Service was awesome, the bartender was really cool and even though the place was packed, they still added another seat for us at the bar. I love sitting at the bar. Drinks just kept coming.
SUGGEST: Thursday bloody Thursday! Great place to be but wouldn't come in a huge group I doubt you could fit them all unless you came early enough. This place packs up real quick after dinner time on beer night.
But if you're with just a couple friends, no cheaper place to go for good beers and bar food. The place is really cool, upbeat & friendly. -

Room 18 is in a great area, serves decent pub fair and has great staff...it is unfortunately always empty. It's like a hot girl that doesn't know she's hot, and is just full of potential. This place could easily be bumping if they threw in a DJ night and promoted it, but thus far nothing.
The highlights are definitely the attentive staff and lack of pretension in the bar. If you are looking to book a place out for a small function or event in Kits, I'd definitely recommend this joint, if only for the capacity.
I had the nachos when I was there with a buddy, and they are MORE than generous. They even layer the cheese which is essential in the practice Nachology.
All in all it gets three stars with the potential for four if she, err it acts a bit more slutty, and by slutty I mean invests in some promotion. -

I am a bit wary to write this review because I am afraid that it may cause one of my favorite locals to blow up into a spot where I won't be able to find a table on there cheap beer night. One of the most affordable nights to get drunk in Vancouver has to be Thursdays at Room 18 for their $1.50 beer nights. The friendly staff doesn't even scoff at you when you order 10 beers at a time for the 5 people at your table, sometimes veteran servers like Katey even suggest it.
The food that I have had thus far has been par for pub food, but very plentiful, especially their fries and nachos. As mentioned in other reviews, the television quality is definitely not the greatest, but is almost worth not having to keep the room available in the bar. -

$1.55 beers on Sundays and 4 shots of Jagger for $17!
Who cares if the food is good or not?
To be fair, their nachos are decent and they had a big selection of wings but they were out. What restaurant runs out of wings?? What?
Oh wells, as I said before...$1.55 beers! I'll be back =) -

I'm surprised that this place hasn't found its crowd yet, or, rather, that the crowd hasn't found this place. Very nice staff, good food, a fireplace, and good beer. Maybe I should be glad, because it means we can always get a seat.
The only thing I don't like is the armada of flatscreen TVs, but every bar in this entire city has them, so whatareyagonnado. -

update - room 18 has been hit by the maelstorm of $1.50 beers. this place is hopping on thursday nights. i'm a huge fan of getting in and out early here. so far my friends and i have set the record at 150 beers. we welcome challengers.
the burgers are solid, and the fries are great. i wasn't a huge fan of the calimari and the "taste of nova scotia" is downright nasty. nachos are good.
this is a great place to bring the crew together for a few casual drinks to wind the week down.Listed in: kitsilano

Went in to watch the Canucks play Chicago since a huge flag waved in the window and a sign for 2 for 1 apps enticed. Was surprised to find the place mostly empty but it suited me fine. There was no smell of chicken wings wafting by - a pet peeve I have of pubs - this was a classier joint it seemed. Pulled up to the bar with my friend and ordered a $13 pitcher of Granville Pale Ale. Found the bartender very attentive, but he was just standing a few feet away. Only draw back was the food, really. We had a spinach dip we couldn't finish (not so yummy) and a tiny order of melted brie (which was tasty) but everything seemed twice the price you should be paying for it. So, if it's apps you want, at least hit them up on Monday when it's 2 for 1.

I really like this place too! But, it's always soo empty especially early in the evening.. It needs to throw away the micro[wave, and pay a decent cook, I think. Then we will all start showing up regularly--not just Thurs.

Everytime I pass by this place it's empty!!!I don't get it because it's pretty well located on W.4th ave.I went there once to have a drink with my bf and it was pretty chill, only a few tables were taken and a canuks game was playing. I tried going there about 3 weeks ago on a Friday night at 11 pm and it was closed!!! This place has potential but it's not there yet !!

Before a gig on Saturday, I decided to try this one out, because I`m always trying new wing places. I got here, and not much going on. I sat, and was surprised to find that the bartender would be my waiter as well. No biggie, but slightly strange. I ordered the `Caesar` wings, fully expecting like a caesar dressing. When I got them (quite quickly I might add), I was surprised when they were covered in a somewhat buffaloish-tomatoish sauce. When I asked the waiter-bartender if this indeed was it, he explained to me that yes, the chicken is covered in a caesar coating and then cooked. He didn't elaborate, and I didn't ask. They were actually pretty good, albeit a little tough though. The blue cheese dip was three sorts of awesome though, lots of chunks. All in all, it was pretty good, I think I will make another trip to try another kind, or maybe they'll try to slip me the same type again... hmmmm
