RONA has opened the first store in Halifax at Bayer's Lake.

RONA is the largest Canadian distributor and retailer of hardware, renovation and gardening products.

This place is huge, I find these places overwhelming. I wish they would hand out a GSP device to assist me while I am there.

The store is huge, new , and has everything you can imagine for the do-it yourself person or the contractor. They have their own area for customer service. I just found out they actually have a drive-through indoor lumber yard. How cool is that!!!

RONA is very involved with helping the community. They also support our athletes and pair up with one at each location. "Growing with our Athletes".
    They also support our Olympics.

The prices at RONA are comparable, I was actually looking for a long runner for the hallway.

I am sure the men can spend hours in here. I do ,but mainly because I get lost. :) I think it would be a great space for a paint ball tournament.

The staff are great, I am sure they were getting use to where everything was, since it was a new store and huge, did I mention it was huge. 100,000.00 Sq Ft.3,000-square-foot greenhouse, a 25,000-square-foot outdoor garden centre as well as a 20,000-square-foot drive-through indoor lumberyard and a 25,000-square-foot drive-through exterior lumberyard and to boot, 33,000 products. WOW!!

This store opened in 2008. Compared to its main competitors, Home Depot and Kent, I find it to be a bit more furniture-oriented. They do, for example, have many less expensive and MUCH better looking lamps than Home Depot or Kent (or Canadian Tire). However, having said that, their main focus is definitely on home improvement and gardening.

I do like this store, but I don't use it as much as I'd like to. Why not? Because, unfortunately, the Rona website is really disappointing. It is meant to include a list of all products that Rona carries but, unfortunately, is very inconvenient to use because of the following problems:

    1. Many products have extremely short and sometimes even wrong product names, without any further information to ascertain which manufacturer/model it is

    2. Many products only have the product name but no further product information as you would find it on the Home Depot or Kent websites

    3. Many products don't have a photograph, and if they do then it's a tiny one

    4. Some products only have a French-language entry

    5. There is, contrary to the Home Depot website, no store availability information on the Rona website

    6. The search function is poor - it doesn't let you search only the product name, hence if you search for "lamp" you will find things such as dimmers and worklights too (since the work "lamp" appears in their product description). Also, it does not allow you to select how many results to display on each page (I find 12 far too few).

    7. The website only includes part of the information on Rona's own-brand Haussmann tools that is available on the Haussmann website. The entire information that is available on the Haussmann website should be integrated into the Rona website.

Because of that, I find it difficult to find out what Rona carries, and therefore often go to Kent or Home Depot instead. I hope that Rona will give their website a major overhaul.
