Burnaby, BC
Great patio set up, great atmosphere.
I had a Mushroom burger. They were a little chincy on the mushrooms and I don't think there was cheese on my burger but the juciy burger patty more than made up for it.
The weird thing? You have to order fried seperately. So If you want a side your looking at about $20 bucks for your burger and fries.
The waiteress? Mediocre. Not overly friendly, didn't really seem like she knew a lot about being a server... My friend had to ask for water three times. But at least she wasn't rude and she was trying.
I recommend this place for sure. -

Romer's takes it meals seriously. Up front, they let you know they don't rush and your burger will take as long as it take meaning a little extra time to be prepared just right.
I ordered the righteous rib burger with thick-sliced applewood bacon, braised short rib, sweet onions, Gorgonzola garlic sauce, and fresh thyme leaves. It was pretty solid and well-cooked, a mouthful.
Unlike most restaurants, fries don't come standard with your burger so I got an order of garlic fries. I love fries, am not picky, and garlic makes everything better. They were very crisp and didn't skimp on the garlic.
Devon went with the magic mushroom burger with angus beef, chopped portobellos, arugula, herb and garlic Boursin cheese, and caramelized onion with a twist. For a dollar more, you can "make it green" and substitute your bun with two rolls of lettuce. Needless to say, it got messy and she ended up eating hers as a salad.
It was a very filling meal and the beef quality was high with nicely cooked burgers and crisp, tasty fries. We enjoyed the meal overlooking the seaside dock in this up and coming development. -

I hate to give this restaurant only 3 stars because I know one of the chefs (who was not working when I went), but i have to.
Although the burger was tender and juicy, it really lacked any flavour. Sadly, the toppings didn't help much either. The first were forgettable, but the onion rings saved the day. They were sprinkled with herbs and parmesan, which was pretty tasty.
I will still go back because I think this place deserves another chance. The restaurant is nice and clean, and the atmosphere is fun and relaxed. Maybe I need to try a couple different burgers. -

The Restaurant has a nice view of the water and free parking The turkey burger and fries where tasty. I had the olives, pickles hot/salty nuts appetizer. We where treated nicely by the staff. The manager was open to chatting with me as I paid my bill. As with lot of restaurants I had some concerns about how salty the food was but some of that was my choice. We saw eagles and flying by as we eat lunch which made the meal special

Great room; really bad bland breakfast. Might go back & try a burger but only because of the beautiful space.

Amazing dinner tonight. The burgers are incredible!! Back soon.

Not overly impressed by my first experience.
For $10 I would expect more than a sad, lonely burger on my huge plate. The presentation really makes it even more sad. It's like the burger is saying, "Wah waaaaah, I'm all alone and you just paid $10 for little, old me." No added pickled pepper or anything. At least the man-friend got an olive and peperoncini with his. But it was still a sad looking plate.
I got the So Cal Turkey Burger, and while the bun was nice, and the burger tasty, I was mighty disappointed in the toppings. In addition to the roasted tomatoes, one slice of avocado was all I got. Right in the middle, so 2/3rds of my burger had no delicious avocado taste. Why am I paying $10 again? You load that burger if you want me to think this is a good deal. And since I despise mayo, I opted out of the orange flavoured mayo for the burger. Which then left me with a dry bun. Thanks, jerks. You couldn't have spread a little butter on there or something? Since the only condiment at the table was ketchup I had to put that on my bun, and it didn't really suit the flavours of the rest of the burger.
The space is nice, and I bet the patio is awesome in the summer. The service was so-so, though. Apparently I was invisible that day, because when we sat down to join our waiting guests, who had already eaten, my partner was asked if he'd like a drink, and before I could say what I'd like our server poof and vanished. He came back with the Pepsi, but again ignored my attempt to ask for water and vanished again. We had to ask another server if I could please get some water. She was nice and helped right away.
I did really enjoy the truffle fries. At least the flavour. The fries I believe had been the tiny left over bits at the bottom of the barrel, because they were almost all no longer than 3 cm. Come on, guys!
The drunken donuts were actually great, and a good deal, so they get points for those. And the beer prices are decent, especially Sundays, I hear. While I didn't imbibe on this trip, a beer outing may be in order to sway my opinion.
So all these little things added up to a blah experience. Will I give them another shot? Maybe. In the summer when I can sit on the patio, sure. Not sure I'd order their overpriced burgers again, but we'll see. Wow me with some generous toppings, then we'll be friends. -

Ah Romer's...as you enter this location, you know you're at a FancyPants burger joint. Don't get me wrong, the place is really beautiful and the deck is amazing to enjoy in the summer...but burger and fries for $15+? It's gotta knock my socks off...and it almost did.
Got the Rodeo Star burger and it was a great combination of quality beef. bacon and bbq sauce. Fries were decent but not worth $4. I decided to splurge for a boutique soda, a Fentiman's ginger root beer. Not too bad...but again, $4?
I would still recommend Romer's though...the quality ingredients and great staff will always win me over...regardless of what my wallet says. -

* New location - same food quality *
I wandered on down to the new 2nd location of Romer's since I have enjoyed the burgers I got at the original location: http://www.yelp.ca/biz...
This new location is in a brand new development that looks like it is going to have a bunch of condos going up along what feels like a former commercial area near the train tracks. So for now it seems like a few condo sales and admin offices and the restaurant, along with what appears to be a newly constructed boardwalk as well.
They even have gone so far as to name the area as a "district" of "River Terrace." Meh. Overall it gives a very manicured suburban feel to the whole thing, and I prefer the original Kits location because it feels like a real neighbourhood. But I digress.
Service was better at this new location. Even though it is fairly new the waitstaff was well trained and very on top of things.
I ordered the rodeo star (awful name, I know) burger which has ancho spicing, applewood bacon, red onions, tomatoes, horseradish jack, bbq sauce and cilantro served on a grilled brioche bun. It is garnished on the side with a garlic olive and pepperoncini (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...). The burger itself was thick, juicy, and perfectly cooked. They clearly had rested the meat appropriately after cooking it so it retained its juices nicely. It was a very good burger (and it should be for $11 a la cart). Photo: http://www.yelp.ca/biz...
I also had a side salad ($4) which had roasted organic baby beets, arugula, sweet onions, and goat cheese. It was slightly overdressed, but the beets were nice and sweet going well with the creaminess of the goat cheese. Overall it had a good taste. Photo: http://www.yelp.ca/biz...
Same quality of food as the original location, but I think I'll likely stick to the original location due to the neighbourhood feel of it. Perhaps one day, "River Terrace" will be a hopping neighbourhood. But for now it is a greenfield construction site with a good high-end burger joint!Listed in: Vancouver Burgers

This is a particularly pleasant location along the water with a patio overlooking the pier and a park. The interior is pretty cool too. For this alone I'll return. Also for the service which we found to be friendly and helpful. When I asked our server about gluten free options, she sent the manager over. Mike assured me that the burger beef (and the bacon) has no fillers, is of a high quality and offered that it could be served wrapped in lettuce. I'm not terribly fond of eating beef burgers wrapped up in lettuce I would prefer a gluten free burger bun, but I sincerely appreciated having the lettuce option available.
The burger buns really do look amazing and the fries are hand cut and crispy to perfection! My burger came atop some lettuce and a few tomato slices with some onion slices to dress it up.
As for the value, we were treated to our meal by our friends so it's not exactly appropriate for me to comment, but I will say it does seem a bit chintzy to offer a 9 or 11 dollar burger while charging an extra 4 dollars for the fries. At the same time and in contrast I must add that a 3 dollar beer (on Sundays only) is a rare find these days! As rare as I like my burgers ;) -Oh but this is BC, where all burgers are served well done, so this pun doesn't really work.
PS. don't expect as many onion 'strings' atop your burger as there are in the image on the web site. (The big guy was pretty disappointed by that.) -

Too bad that as the only restaurant in this neighbourhood, we end up with a loud hockey/sports bar that serves over-priced, mediocre food. Have tried to like this place with several visits, but not again. Too bad as the location is great, but the ambiance, food and service are all below standard.

Overall a 3 star experience - with potential!!!
Location - 4stars. There aren't many places in this neck of the woods and even nicer is that the neck of the woods is next to the Fraser River and a walking trail. Overall a bright airy space with nice decor. (Photo: http://www.yelp.ca/biz... )
Burger - 4stars. We shared the Man's Man Burger (Thick-sliced applewood bacon, local creamery amber ale cheddar, onion strings, smoked alder salts, vine-ripened tomato, whole grain mustard). Was a very decent burger. (Photo: http://www.yelp.ca/biz... )
Poutine - 2-1/2stars. Fries were too light, not crispy enough. Gravy was a bit salty. Cheese curds? Really.... they lacked the squeek, which had me thinking that it was just crumbled pieces of mozza. We bit disappointing seeing as how much effort they put into everything else (Photo: http://www.yelp.ca/biz... )
Onion Rings - 2-1/2stars. Again. Nice attempt but failed somehow. Batter coated nice big onion ring slabs, and was crispy, but tasteless. Sprinkle of parmesan and parsley didn't help. The dip (tzatziki) didn't help either. Shame. (Photo: http://www.yelp.ca/biz... )
Overall - 3stars. Service was helpful. Crowd and location had a good vibe to it. We look forward to trying more of their dinner, lunch, and
brunch entrees.
Note: This place is wheelchair accessible, but there are only a few spaces indoors that they can accommodate the chair. Might be a good idea to phone ahead and reserve that spot if required, in order to avoid a long delay in being served.Listed in: Food Porn, There and Back Again, Poutine List

Review from Purdy J.
I love the quite, relaxing location that is just off the beaten path but the extremely dry bun completely ruined my meal. We tried a variety of menu items this time, here's the low down:
Food:
-Magic Mushroom burger: v. Good.. Come on, how can you not like a burger with boursin cheese?!?! Delicious except for the dry bun.
-Man's Man: overall v. Good but the description set my expectations too high and the burger's flavour fell short. The bun was also v. Dry.
-Righteous Rib burger: oh so delicious burger with nice tender, melt in your mouth braised short rib on top of the burger patty. My favorite burger although the bun again was dry.
-Rodeo star: The most disappointing burger with bacon that was hardly thick, horseradish jack cheese that you couldn't taste and an extremely dry bun that just left your mouth feeling dry. Yuck! you could really just taste the BBQ sauce..so I would just call this a BBQ burger. Blah.
-Yam fries: nice and crispy with very smokey dip.
-Regular fries: just ok. They aren't blanched and tasted pretty regular. They also serve the little fries ends which is a pet peeve and makes me feel like I am eating someones left overs or the end of a batch which makes me question the freshness.
-Onion rings: super thick crust which I like but not very flavourful. Price feels a little steep for 7$ as you only get about 7-8 onion rings. That's a dollar each!
Drinks:
-Beer: pretty wimpy selection of beer.
-kick start power juice: served in a tall glass, love the fresh pulpy orange juice, mango flavour tastes a little sugary rather than fruity overall, not bad but I would prefer less sweet.
-carrot orange ginger power: served in a small cccktail glass, sweet with a nice carrot flavor. Enjoyed by my companion who loves carrot juice and sweet beverages.
Love the location and the range fed natural beef. Dislike the dry, boring buns and the fact that the sides are extra. If you're going to do burgers, get the bun right and offer some variety!1 Previous Review: Show all »

It would be an absolutely wonderful location if it weren't for the bugs due to the area. Small-ish place. Single room washrooms. Seems like a smaller menu for some reason....
For a first time experience, definetely hit the Kits one.... -

Today was my second time here, I was here for brunch and I had the Deluxe hash browns, it was so good! What I really love are the Mojitos one of the best I ever tried, I live close by, and I'm very happy they open Romers here. Burgers are really good, I don't get it why they don't include fries, you have to ask for an order, they worth it!
Hope in the future they can expand. And washrooms are ok, don't like that they are for male and females :)
That's all I have to say. -

Checked out this new location a few days ago. Was disappointed that their liquor license was not set up yet but the food made up for it. This was my first experience at Romer's Burger Bar and we will be back. The mushroom burger was very good; could've used more mushrooms and will add more next time. The drunkin doughnuts were so good! The truffle oil with reggiano fries was a bit disappointing though. Not enough cheese. Get your liquor license sorted out and I will be a regular here.
