Review from Peter T.
In the interests of full disclosure, I used to live in the condominiums just across the highway next to Beaver Lake and I have eaten at this Romeo's more times than I care to admit since it opened in the mid-90's. Over the past ten years I have only been here a handful of times and I will say that the food and menu is extremely consistent with what they were making 15 or 20 years ago. And it's good! It's not five star dining, but it's good.
I was in Victoria recently and I was really looking forward to having dinner at the Broadmead Romeo's for nostalgia's sake. My wife and I decided to each order something different and share so we could each have a bit of a different thing to see if it was as good as we remembered. My wife ordered a pizza, and I ordered the veggie baked lasagna. Unfortunately, we had a new server who was a little disorganized and the pizza arrived - larger than we had ordered - but my veggie baked lasagna did not. Oh well, the pizza was bigger than we had ordered, so let's just eat that. And, it was the same Romeo's pizza I remember and have enjoyed many, many, many times in the past. The crust is light and crispy on the outside, the cheese is a nice mix of mozzarella and something a little richer like fontina, the sauce is substantial with some nice spices like oregano and basil with a pleasing sweetness, and the toppings are really fresh and applied generously. We had some local Vancouver Island brewery microbrews to wash it all down, and we really enjoyed ourselves despite the service hiccup.
All in all, I really hope that Romeo's never changes their menu and never changes their recipes. This is a really fantastic old skool Canadian-Italian restaurant that delivers a consistently satisfying experience and I think Victoria would be all the poorer to lose it if it was ever lost.
