Despite the somewhat seedy sounding name, Rod's Exotic Auto Spa was better than we expected and cost less than anticipated.

After a fruit punch accident left the passenger side of our car smelling like a tropical swamp and as sticky as a movie theatre floor, my husband asked around for recommendations for getting it clean. Rod's was the number one suggestion and when he called, they were able to fit us in quickly.

Rod himself was personable and friendly, but most importantly, his staff did a great job getting the inside and outside of our car clean and free of that sickly sweet smell. They shampooed all the floor mats, dug sand and dirt out of the crevices, and made the exterior shine - and all for less than half of what we expected to pay.

After getting quotes in excess of $200 for basic detailing from other places, we had anticipated that Rod's would be no different and were prepared to bite the bullet. I was pleasantly surprised when the total came to $112, including tax.

While it may have been cheaper than expected, it wasn't particularly fast. We dropped the car off around 10am and it was ready for pick-up around 3:30pm. Certainly not the speediest, but maybe it was a busy day and they squeezed us in - which was certainly appreciated!

Of course, the downside of having a clean car, is that every scratch in the paint is now far too visible, but at least I no longer feel like I'm driving a kid-mobile!

I hate writing bad reviews but it's places like this that I feel it necessary to warn other people about.

I decided to get my car detailed because I had smoked in it for quite some time and I suspected that after not smoking in it for months, the lingering smell was stuck in my cloth roof liner which also had some grubby hand marks on it.  I had done extensive research online about how to clean your own roof liner and I was scared that I would tear it or get it too wet which can unglue it from the roof or cause mildew to grow so I bit the bullet and decided to pay the $200 or whatever it was to get it done.

I didn't look up reveiws on this place first but it's located in West Van and when I went in for the estimate all I saw were $200,000 sportscars and I thought that was enough assurance that my lowly car would be in good hands.

Long story short, when I picked up the car, it looked and smelled fantastic.  I got in and left to drive it home; as soon as I got on the highway I attempted to close the sunroof which had been open when I picked it up and it began to shudder and the rest of the way home in the rain nonetheless, the sunroof opened and closed on it's own.

I called the owner and he told me that anything that happens when I drive off the lot is not his fault and that it could have very well broken one foot off his property.  He took zero responsibility for this problem.  Not to mention when I did get home and get out of the car, I realized that the roof liner was torn in a jagged line for close to half a foot along one of the edges with the orange foam underneath visible.

I got the sunroof fixed on my own but the lining is a problem I cannot afford to fix and this place took no responsibility for it.  I do not recommend you take your car there unless it's worth over $100,000 becuase I suspect that's where he focuses his care and attention instead of the layman's cars like mine.  Basically I paid this guy $200 to do a job that I was too scared to do and he ended up doing to my roof liner exactly what I was scared of doing on my own.
