Great place for burgers, they use 100% beef in their burgers (not like the "100% real beef" at some burger joints), they have fresh buns delivered from Bee Bell Bakery Daily & their pickled beets are to die for! They have customizable burgers as well as signature burgers (ex. Rodeo Burger, Lonestar, etc) & they've recently added an Aussie Burger!
(Toppings include but are not limited to: picked beets, jalepenos, banana peppers, green chilis, cream cheese & chilis, mushrooms, carmalized onions, onions, lettuce, tomatos, cheddar cheese, bbq sauce, mayo, mustard, ketchup, etc.)
I am not a fan of fries in general, but their fries are to die for! They are thin & crispy - but not dry...they can be sprinkled with sea salt or seasoning salt.
Their dessert cookies are also delicious - chocolately crispy caramel goodness! (If you're not stuffed by the time you're done the burger & fries).
The only reason I say it's not good for groups &/ kids is I go during peak lunch hour & it's always packed & at times you cannot find a place to sit. I'm sure if it's not during peak hours it would be good for groups & for kids as well. The staff is always friendly, they take the orders quickly and do not make mistakes...the wait for the burger isn't long but it is excruciating to watch people at other tables eat the mouth watering burgers!!

The new Nameo location (16045 97 Street) is just as delicious!! It was just as busy as the University location when we stopped by for an early lunch this weekend. The only thing I thought they'd change was the poor staff member needing to shout out order numbers (it gets a bit difficult to hear what number is being called when it's busy).
My hubby says it's his favorite place for burgers!!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Best burger while visiting in Canada!
Got hungry while visiting in the area. My sister recommended this place. Me being a 5G and an I-and-O burger FANATIC, I set my expectations quite high before entering.
Here, you pick your burger and toppings, and THEY put it on (very important for me!) In addition to the many regular fresh toppings, They have some interesting toppings I hadn't seen before at a burger place - guacamole, pickled beets and green chili's. And there own signature sauces. Also have veggie burgers.
I got a double with "all the way" toppings and seasoned salt fries.
The fries were EXCELLENT - definitely in "the best" league. I'm not a big fries fan, but these are truly extremely tasty.
The burger was EXCELLENT - definitely rates up there with the big boys.
You pay a bit more $$ for these burgers, but it is worth it.
I'm a Rodeo FANATIC! -

Some say that ours is a generation that demands customization in everything. What we eat is no exception. While major fast-food chains (aside from Subway and other sandwich oriented businesses) have been slow to adopt these features, I have noticed that many local, non-chain restaurants like Rodeo Burger have been able to fill this void nicely. I like being able to decide everything that goes into my food.
While in general I am not a huge burger eater, I have enjoyed my few visits here thoroughly. I love that they offer vegetarian patties. I also like how their list of toppings contains all the traditional burger favourites (pickles, ketchup, mustard, onions, etc.) yet also features options for those of us who are more adventurous with our food. The guacamole is fantastic!
I'm only going to give Rodeo Burger three stars today because even though I loved the selection of toppings, my last burger there was overcooked and dry. I also wish they offered whole wheat buns in addition to the white bread.Listed in: Good Old Garneau, Omnivore Restaurants that…

Listen up, burger makers: THIS is how to make a veggie burger! Don't assume that all vegetarians desire minimal toppings, a dry, multigrain bun, and a low-moisture cheese (I'm looking at you Delux Burger). We actually do like additional toppings. And we really do enjoy flavour. And this is why I go to Rodeo Burgers.
I love that at Rodeo Burgers, everything is customizable, the toppings and the patty. I don't get nickled and dimed for making substitutions (veggie patty for beef or guac for pancetta, like at other burger joints), and I don't get charged for toppings I don't want (I hate paying for bacon that never touches my patty). Some toppings cost extra at Rodeo Burger, but my favourites, the sauteed mushrooms and carmelized onions are complimentary. Love that!
Overall, the burgers are good, not the best veggie ever, but better than many. The patties are a bit thin and tend to fall apart when eating, and if you load up with toppings like I do, then you are dealing with a very messy burger. But I guess that's part of the fun. The fries are fantastic, and I thought the portion sizes were fine.
If I craving a burger, or just want a tasty, inexpensive meal in the University area, I head to Rodeo Burgers. This is the one burger joint in town that values the vegetarian as much as the omnivore. Thanks, Rodeo Burgers! -

The best part about Rodeo Burgers is how you can customize your burger, and not in the typical fast food way either - there are some pretty great toppings from which to choose, like sauteed mushrooms and carmelized onions - toppings which would cost extra in other restaurants.
The burger itself is not that wonderful. It is quite thin and a peppery spice dominates the flavour. If I knew how thin the patty would be, I would have ordered a double. The fries are fantastic and perfectly seasoned, but as other reviewers have pointed out, the portion is quite small.
Still, the overall price for my burger/fries/pop combo was less than $10 and it was served up fast and fresh. I would not make a special trip to Rodeo Burgers but would eat here again if only for those delicious fries. -

I did not find Rodeo burger to be anything special. I ordered twice for takeout, and while I love the fact you can customize your burger with your choice of toppings , I find they are a bit skimpy with the amount they put on. Maybe I should ask for double onions and mushrooms next time.
Also, both times I found quite a bit of gristle in the meat. Very unappetizing. I also found the portion of fries to be pretty small for the price. -

Fresh and customizable, this is one of the best burger places in town. In addition to tasty burgers and lots of topping options, their fries are some of the best you'll find in Edmonton.
Service is quick and friendly and the atmosphere is welcoming. Great fast-food option for students at the UofA and much, much better than any burger options right on campus. -
Review from Aditya R.
Rodeo burgers is the perfect lunch pickup for people who work/study at the University or hospital. The burgers are juicy and french fries phenomenal, to say the least. The reason for a 4* is not because it's the best burger in town, but because it definitely transcends the expectations of fast food.
Customizable burgers - that's the best! As an eager customer, you are presented with several choices of toppings for your burger, like mushrooms, caramelized onions, roasted peppers etc. and also a decent variety of sauces, apart from just a mustard-mayo combination. Most of the toppings are free, except for stuff like bacon and cheese. They also have predefined burgers for those who don't want to waste time figuring out their options. Try the southwestern burger - it's pretty good!
When it comes to fries, they have seasoned fries and sea salt fries, both of which are great. The staff are friendly and the service is a bit on the slower side, for fast food, which is again a good thing. You don't want to eat food that's prepared in 2 mins! They make it with care and with fresh ingredients.
Totally worth its price and very filling indeed.Listed in: Green massacre, Let's get take out tonight

I had pretty low expectations for Rodeo Burger going in, thinking it was just another fast-food burger joint. Dang, was I wrong! For a moderate price you can get a ton of food - a big burger, and don't skip on the fries, either. They are very yummy.
If you go at peak hours, expect a line-up, but the staff are both friendly and work quickly. The burgers here are yummy, a solid meal, and also made exactly to your liking. At Rodeo Burger, you pick the toppings to make your dream burger.
One unique feature of Rodeo Burger is their beer selection. This was the first "fast-food" restaurant I've come across that is also licensed. A cheaper way to have dinner with a beer than many other places near the U of A campus.Listed in: Four-Stars, Lunch Break, Student Eats, Garneau Greats, Big Burgers

Review from Yo U.
Rodeo Burgers is overrated in my opinion. It's expensive, the patties are overcooked, and the dining space isn't always neat as a pin. How I wish that Canada would ease up on requiring restauranteurs to cook burgers until they are grey and hard! Do yourself a favour and take a pass on this place if you know what a good burger should taste like.

The burger patties are quite good, and the toppings are fresh...however, make sure you get the double burger because the patties are very thin. If you do, a burger with fries and a pop would run you about $11-$13.
The fries with "Rodeo Seasoning" are also recommended; mine were only OK but that's because they gave them to me lukewarm - they were probably under the heating lamp for 20 minutes beforehand. If you're luckier than I was and get them right out of the fryer I bet they would be excellent. -

This is a high quality ingredient, limited menu burger place on the eastern fringe of the U of A campus. The burger is made from a fresh, hand-formed patty and freshly baked buns. There are about a dozen toppings choices - including caramelized onion which is my fav - and several homemade sauces and salsa. Burger was very, very good.
But the star was the fries. These are the best fries I have eaten outside of France where they double cook fries at high temp in peanut oil. These are the kind of fries that do not need anything on them. They are long and quite thin (slightly thinner than McD's) and taste like real potatoes. No batter dipped fries here.
There is some parking, but it is a little awkward to get to because of the one-way streets. But it is so worth the trip. Also this is very close to the Health Sciences LRT stop. -

Rodeo Burger has decent prices and you can find it easily if you are by the University of Alberta.
I came here with no expectations and was impressed. That is usually how it goes when you have no expectations. They allow you to decorate your burger with your choice of toppings and you can do this however you want. That is what sets it apart from most other burger joints, and that is what makes it really good.
Definitely worth a try. -

I was craving a burger and this place is a block away. I didn't have any expectations and I was pleasantly surprised. It's an mid-scale burger bar with contemporary western decor, woody with stainless steel clad surfaces. There are three flat screens scattered about, but audio is contemporary MOR played just a little too loud.
Your choices are burgers: single or double with a bunless "naked burger" option (it's a salad, a hamburger salad). There is a veggie burger on the menu, but if you're vegitarian why go to a burger joint? The fries looked and smelled good but they're too much carb for me. They push them with a selection of dipping sauces. Once you decide one or two patties, there are 20 condiment and dressing choices to customise your carnivorous experience.
The patties are hand-formed in house and have a good lean/fat mix, which means they taste meaty and don't crumble apart when you bite the burger. I'd say they're about a quarter pound and a double is not an exercise in gluttony. My "double barrel" came with a good amount of crisp lettuce and the tomato slice had snap, so not the veggie mush you can get in some places. The Cheddar was good, a mid and not a mild, but a 50 cent extra. Bacon (also 50 cents more) was crisp. The banana peppers had bite and the mustard had a good tang without being overpowering.
The service was friendly and efficient. My burger came up faster than I expected it to. You can dine in or take out. There's beer in the fridge too, though nothing special, Molson's product.
Pricing is good about $5.00 for the single and $7.00 for the double. I wouldn't say "best", a really good burger needs to be flame broiled. These burgers are good, but they're off the flattop. I'll be back; it's definitely the choice in the University area. -
Review from Kelly Z.
Not a bad option in the University area. Decent prices ($5-9 for a burger, midway between the more expensive Hudson's and less expensive Wendy's) for thin style patty burgers. They are also licensed and hope to start serving breakfast soon.
They make a lot of claims that elevate their burger above most others in town: inhouse made fresh buns, freshly made toppings, special sauces and hand cut fries. They come through on most of these claims.
The toppings really make this place stand out and you can customize your burger to no end, with traditional options like ketchup, bacon, cheese, lettuce and tomatoes but also more exotic offerings (at least in Edmonton) like freshly made guacamole, salsa, jalapenos in cream cheese, fresh relish and so on.
If you're really hungry or craving a meaty burger I recommend getting two patties as they are a bit on the thin side. -
Review from Chukwuma M.
This is one of the few burger joints that let you put your own jalapeno topping on your burger, therefore it's automatically one of the best burger joint in town. Seriously, some of the toppings are amazing! My favorite kind of burger is a spicy one, but rarely do I find a restaurant that has a topping spicy enough to match my appetite.
Rodeo Burger is reasonably priced since it's right next to the University of Alberta. You would be surprised as to how many places around, or on, campus have overpriced food.
