I can honestly tell you that I have NEVER been to Banff and NOT paid a visit to this store.

Rocks and Gems is one of my most favourite stores in Banff. It is completely unique and like no other store I have ever been into.

The entire store is filled with beautiful rocks and gems (go figure) and you can purchase them in the form of themselves, showpieces, artifacts or my personal favourite - jewelry.

They actually sell the engagement ring that I plan on sporting... you know, when I'm ready and all that. lol.

The service here is excellent, and it's a hard place to walk past without being intrigued by the gigantic amethyst that sits on the inside of the door. This thing comes up to my waist it's so huge!

If you're planning a trip to Banff, plan to be amazed by this store. Bring some extra cash, cause you may just want bring a piece of it home ;)

I absolutely love this store, I have spent a good hour or more in this store at a time lookig at all the little (& big) gems, rocks & jewellery here.  My husband is very intrigued by the huge geodes at the front door...my favorite are the fossils...  It's like a mini museum!
You can find something to purchase on any budget here, ranging from inexpensive knick knacks to the very pricey geodes and larger pieces....definitely worth a look while you're in Banff!

Being a gemologist in training gets me into trouble sometimes.  I could spend the entire day in this store and totally forget where I am.  Luckily I was on a mission, so I had to behave.  My two nephews wanted me to help them choose a couple of stones or fossils that would give them some good :"mojo".   I also study holistic healing with stones, so I gave them a bit of a tutorial.  The store is well laid out and they have tons of stock.  It is brightly lit and the prices are competitive.  The counter staff is knowledgeable and friendly.  They humor your interests in the power of rocks and offer very good suggestions.  The boys enjoyed looking at tumble stones, fossils, books and mounted jewelry.   They ended up with a clear quartz wand and a green fluorite tumble stone.  My sister was thrilled to buy a silver bracelet for half price and a red agate pinky ring.
I managed to resist buying myself a treat this time, but snagged a citrine & tiger eye pendant on my last visit.  I will be back.  I have my eye on a rare, ammolite pendant.  Ammolite is only mined in Alberta and this store has some amazing pieces.  I'm drooling!!!!

Rocks and Gems have tons of selection for the avid rock and gem shopper.  3 foot crystal tall open crystal geodes welcome you inside the store, and a huge L like glass counter houses the staff in the centre of the store.  So they can service people at any angle.  The place was packed today as people were definitely getting their rocks off, so to speak.

Agate, minerals, jasper, copper, and crystals amongst dozens of other selection types.  There were even some really nice jewellery selections with pendants and rings and an earring spinning podium with attractive earring pairs at 4 to 6 dollars.

I did come away with a meteorite pendant.  The whole idea of owning a piece of a rock from another planet absolutely captivates me, imagine wearing something like that around my neck.  Would I then get superhuman powers?  I did find a small rectangle polished piece of Gibeon Meteorite at $29 dollars and bought a triangle for my honey at $19.

This meteor was found in Namibia, South Africa in 1836 in a field that exceeds 40 miles wide and 250 miles long. The meteor has an attractive silver color and has really interesting diagonal lines strewn across it this is due to meteorite cooling in outer space for billions of years. This is a unique piece of universal history that only few humans will possess and it will last a lifetime, as it is already billion of years old.

I love this store, I could have spent hours in there looking at everything. They have things of every price that can appeal to everybody. It's such a neat little place.
