Review from Stephanie C.

I popped into one of my favourite cafés the other day and noticed the few changes Louie made since my last visit.
For starters, there's more seating thanks to the patio. While it may feel cramped inside the café, it's much more comfortable to sit outside and sip your iced coffee, underneath the umbrellas. The busy traffic activity at the corner of Oakwood Avenue and Davenport Street will keep you entertained.
The food menu is gone only baked goods like brownies are sold. But Louie's added more beverages like milk shakes, root beer floats and smoothies (all $4.00). If you're a fan of Jones soda, he sells that too.
On Saturday afternoons, local bands (of the rockabilly genre, mostly) entertain the patio crowd from noon to 4pm. It's definitely a nice way to spend the afternoon and see a free show (but make sure to set aside some change when the hat is passed along)
Every third Sunday, some of the hard-knocking ladies of the Toronto Roller Derby League organize a bake sale and all (or most, I'm not sure) of the proceeds go towards their team.

Review from ILLAN K.

This place is tiny, but definitely a hole-in-the-wall gem that you shouldn't overlook. The owner Lou is a neighbourhood veteran who seems to love talking about coffee as much as he loves talking about music. His drip filter stuff is all fair trade/organic and his espresso is Lavazza. He knows how to put together an excellent warm drink, especially on those frigid days we get so often here in Toronto.
He orders his bread/pastries from a neighbourhood bakery. The almond/egg croissant is outstanding.
I'm definitely looking forward to the summertime when he'll be able to add a few outdoor tables and perhaps even some live music. -

Definitely a unique little spot to check out. Cramped and cozy with admirable kitsch, the only thing at odds is the unsexy Faema espresso machine, which looked out of place and plasticky amidst all the vintage memorabilia in the place.
I was worried at first at the size of my double espresso - I seldom get them pulled as "long" as Lou did, but it was thick and rich and smooth so I'd have little problem ordering another. My cherry pastry was nothing to write home about, but I just needed something sweet to go with the coffee.
Eavesdropping, I gathered that the owner has been using Lavazza beans for his near 17 years in the restaurant business. He proudly acknowledged that he's bucking the trend of going with beans like Intelligentsia's, preferring to stick with Lavazza's consistency and quality. Though I usually turn up my nose at the mention of Lavazza (I picture beans being shipped by air from Italy and figure the quality must take a hit) my espresso was well above par, so what do I know? -

Great little spot in my neighbourhood.
Checked it out a few weeks ago. The owner was there and he chatted with us about coffee and beans. Seemed like an authentic cafe. I had an americano and it was delicious.
A small selection of pastries was great too.
I can't wait until he puts out some furniture outside so I can go hang out on the weekends.Listed in: My Neighborhood

- The smallest cafe I've seen in Toronto (makes Ella's Uncle look huge!)
- Glad I've found a close option for $2.00 Americanos! No more trekking to The Common!
This is all I can add ... other reviews capture the essence nicely! -

Getting an Americano from Louis is my morning/afternoon ritual. It's a tiny space populated with a tight group of people who live in the neighbourhood and are always happy to include strangers in their conversation. Oh yeah, the coffee is excellent too!
