Beautiful place tucked aside off of quinpool. Inside is very nice and cozy. Prices are very low to what are expected for a restaurant with such a nice interior.
    Would highly recommend.
    Dinner (wraps) were delicious.

Sharp little spot on Quinpool, an area that is quickly becoming one of my favourite Halifax hot-spots.  I've been finding so many gems here recently.  But back to Rock Island specifically, it is a small-ish, cozy place, with a slightly upscale feel, that still manages to maintain a relaxed, casual atmosphere.  Great for a romantic date night, but can accomodate larger groups as well.

The food is well-prepared and flavourful.  I had the beef stroganoff, which I enjoyed very much.  The meat was tender, and the sauce quite tasty.

The hostess (who also served us) was pleasant and conversational.  She was thoughtful enough to let us know that a couple of cars had been broken into in the area earlier in the evening, and to ask us if we were parked nearby.  When we told her we had left our car on a side street a few blocks away, she pointed out that there was a spot available right outside the restaurant, which would allow us to keep an eye on our vehicle, we happily took her advice.  Having actually had a car stolen twice in the past (don't ask...), I tend to be a bit paranoid, and was appreciative of her concern.

All in all, our experience here was a very positive one, and I can definitely see this restaurant becoming one of our regular destinations.

Nice place to grab some food. Swanky enough inside to bring a date, but not so much where you feel the need to dress nice, or that you cant go to with a family. This place doesn't seem to be very busy, I'm not really sure why. Myself and the people I was with all enjoyed our meals, and it was quick with good service.

First off, are they really calling this a gastropub? My BF ordered a DRAFT and we distinctively heard his beer being POURED FROM THE BOTTLE. Not to mention my less than 4 oz glass of wine for $7.95. There are way better places where I wouldn't mind paying more for a nice glass of wine but this wasn't one of them.
ONE SERVER for the whole place...in the evening! I mean there aren't that many tables but each and every one of them were waiting just as long for service as we were. Plus she DOES NOT LISTEN to an order...we overheard the discrepancies from another table between what he ordered and what was brought to him, then I had the same thing happen!
I had to wait even longer for my sweet potatoes instead of white potatoes and then she had the AUDACITY to CHARGE EXTRA for those as if they were an additional side...the dish clearly indicates "with roasted potatoes, rice pilaf, or sweet potato mash but expect to pay an additional $4 if you order anything other than what she was thinking comes with the dish.
From my BF's perspective, the seafood chowder was fresh and tasty (I don't touch the stuff), however it left his belly uncomfortably grumbling uncontrollably the entire night following our meal. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!!
